We converted the spare room into a playroom for our DS a few eyars ago, he's now 9 and we want to update it and make it more of a chill out room, thinking of putting his X Box upstairs as well.

When he was younger it was all bright fun colours now I want to strip it back and make it neutral and perhaps use photos of him surfing and family shots for the walls to decorate.

Any ideas please ... also teh room is very small

Pictures of him doing fun stuff or other pictures he likes sounds perfect. The advantage is you can update them as and when.

Some relaxing lighting could be good (I loved my fiber optic lamp at this age)
Bean bag
Homework space

I like the picture idea as they can be changed easily big clipframes are good for photo colleges

Currently planning DS' bedroom (also 9). Going with neutral-ish walls, maybe one feature wall (he's begged for a red room but can't bring myself to do a whole red room!) and wall stickers / wall art. For him, its football so something like this

Football wall art

or his hero

Van Persie

You can get wall art / stickers for for hobbies / sports and obviously easily removed when he grows up. Think its kind of a nod to their interests without it being too babyish / in your face.

Have a look for sellers on Etsy for some really cool posters. I was bought some minimal Pixar ones for 3 year old DS's room like this this and framed them in white frames from Ikea and have had loads of compliments on them. I noticed at the time of that the seller had some ridiculously cool Star Wars and Batman posters that are really unique which I have bought for presents since and they've gone down a treat. If he's into superheros I think these are pretty cool.
