Live near Manchester. Decorator asked to do hall, stairs, landing, lounge, kitchen , small bedroom and medium bedroom in a medium sized semi.

All prep, emulsioning walls, eggshell ing wood on stairs and all does, skirting. One room requires one wall of paper stripped and lining paper fitted on.

Will take 9-10 days. With paint says £1500. Is this a bit expensive? Would like to compare. Have no other quotes yet.

Sounds very reasonable to me but I'm on the South Coast. A couple more quotes?

No, that sounds very reasonable, if he comes recommended I would go with him.

I'm in the southwest and this would be a very reasonable quote for 2 weeks work (10 days) from a self employed? decorator and if he is also reliable I would be happy with this quote.

Definitely sounds reasonable to me! We were quoted £1300 for our new extension - kitchen, bedroom, tiny utility and two cloakrooms. That's without any stripping of old stuff.

I'm South Manchester. That's very reasonable. I might have to get his number off you!

That sounds incredibly cheap to me! Are you sure he's any good?? I would expect it to cost at least £200 per day in labour alone!

Seems reasonable about 150 quid per day. Check whether it includes paint, from the price it's not clear.

No it includes paint. He is good. I have used him before for smaller one off jobs. I think he has given me a discount this time as it is a good few rooms.

Thanks for the offer of another quite btw. I will bear on mind for next time as think I am going with this one. Cheers all!

Sounds reasonable. We have someone who comes recommended doing work at ours soon. We have a 1960s semi. To do hallway, stairs and landing including skirting, bannister and stair post things, eight interior doors, and a small bathroom (half tiled already) - all prep and then emulsion / wood paint as appropriate. He's quoted £1000 and thinks it'll take about a week. Sounds comparable to yours?

Yes thanks. It does sound comparable.

Blimey that sounds fab. Here in the South East we've been quoted around that mark for just our living room/dining room Hmm

That sounds pretty reasonable to me.

We've just had our living room, master bedroom, hall stairs and landing done - to be fair, big rooms with high ceilings and about 13 days work - and it cost just over £2k.

South East - most quotes come in at £400 a room. Looks like you have a great deal.
