oh, yes, I love looking in those websites that sell old fashioned sweets!

there used to be a shop in Canterbury, when I worked there (5 years ago now), that was a proper old-fashioned sweet shop.
it was lovely. and you had to ask behind the counter for stuff, and I asked for a Quarter (this was before the EU were forced to let us have our unpackaged goods in proper measurements) and she let me! (she weighed out 100g, but she didn't mind me asking for a quarter)

I want Bonfire Toffee in autumn and winter - no one does it - the closest you can get is that cinder stuff that tastes of tar.
you just can't get the lovely, thick, gloopy, treacle bonfire toffee of the olden days.

you can still get clove rock in healthfood shops.

i discovered it when i was at uni.
and then found out it had gelatine in it, so I couldn't have any. :(

i still got some liquorice root, though!
