Hey Tech

Ever thought of doing an archaeological excavation on the computer systems? The servers qualify as antiques don't they? grin

OK can anyone recommend good (and historically accurate) historical novels?

Dw really enjoyed the philippa Gregory ones (the other Boleyn girl etc) and said they were pretty much on the money.

As soon as History Club launched, I became really poorly. With the lergy and the ague.

Gran try The Daughter of Time, a novel about history rather than set in history. Interesting.

Jean Plaidy was my favourite historical novelist. I think she also wrote as Phillipa Gregory (she did have another nom de plume but I am not too sure of it was PG.)

What a cool idea. My speciality is Mexican and LA History. I am not so clued up on UK stuff though.

EchoBitch Thu 20-Sep-12 00:38:50

Was Jean Plaidy also Victoria Holt?

I read them too many years ago to admit.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Thu 20-Sep-12 12:13:15

I'm pretty sure Jean Plaidy ISN'T Phillipa Gregory. She is however Victoria Holt. Her writing under those names are totally different though. Jean Plaidy is fairly serious historical fiction. Victoria Holt is fairly dreadful historical romance. They are ok stories, but once you've read one, you've read them all!

Jean Plaidy (an addiction of my teens) also wrote gothic romance as Victoria Holt and Philippa Carr. Not sure what the Philippa Carr books were like, as I never read any, but had ten zillion Plaidy books, the one about Anne Boleyn being my top comfort read. (Despite not being very comforting, especially at the end.)
