He leaves for University on Friday. So far I have 2 Pot Noodles. grin What other food treats would be handy in the first week?

Pasta pasta and more pasta! Tea, coffee, juice, cornflakes, uHT milk. Jacket potatoes. Tin of soup, beans. Biscuits, crisps. Unless you know what the fridge situation is don't go for anything perishable.

Thank you titchy. I might get him one of those Kelloggs selection boxes of cereal. Oh yes, biscuits.

I have known him since he was about 8. <sniff>

Sparklingbrook Sun 15-Sep-13 10:37:51

This is making me a bit teary and he's not even my son. sad

MortifiedAdams Sun 15-Sep-13 10:38:18

A tin opener!

Tub of Smash

shrinkingnora Sun 15-Sep-13 10:42:08

Paracetamol, ibuprofen, long life fruit juice, squash, bottle of vodka, tinned microwave treacle sponge and chocolate pudding, sugar, cereal, mars bars.

Indith Sun 15-Sep-13 10:43:32

Def lots of stuff to add to boiling water. First week he isn't going to cook. Maybe a few of those porridge thingy tubs you add water to for a decent breakfast after a big night! I'd go for a few simple quick fixes for first week plus a student cook book and a giftcard for his nearest supermarket.

shrinkingnora Sun 15-Sep-13 10:44:02

Bagels. Bit random but they keep for longer than bread. Or any of those individually wrapped brioche or pains au chocolat that Aldi do. Cans of coke.

NotAnotherPackedLunch Sun 15-Sep-13 10:45:37

Marker pen for any food he has to put in a shared fridge.

There are also pot rice, pot cous cous, pot pasta and so forth. Harvest crunch bars keep me going.

These are brilliant, you lot are great. Lots that I hadn't thought of. I thought stamps but that's a bit old fashioned do you think?

Sparklingbrook Sun 15-Sep-13 10:58:33

Oh yes-toiletries!

SavoyCabbage Sun 15-Sep-13 11:05:15

My dad got me light bulbs when I went to uni.

Air freshner be useful. Those student houses are musty.

Sparklingbrook Sun 15-Sep-13 11:06:50

Would tupperware be useful? Or 'Tupperwhere's the effing lid' as we call it.

DoudousDoor Sun 15-Sep-13 11:15:41

Bottle of wine him to share with new housemates the first night.

Cake - ditto

My mum made her gorgeous choc cake. Everytime she came to visit I had loads of people asking if she was bringing another one!

Sparklingbrook Sun 15-Sep-13 11:25:21

Cake and wine. I like the sound of this Uni thing. smile

Well I will be off shortly with a copy of the thread, and will report back with my finds.

Thank you!! x
