Scottish student loan payments

Does anyone know how student loans are paid to Scottish students? Is it monthly, and if so for 12 months, or termly?
Dd has a confirmed loan but the letter only says a payment schedule will be sent out later - not very helpful when you are trying to work out a budget.
Also wondering if they get any more money initially as they will be paying out for societies etc or are they equal payments.
I can find the info for paying bursaries, but that doesn't help as she won't get one of those

Ours were paid twice yearly at the start of our semesters but then I went to a two semester uni!

It was paid in to your bank account. I think the very first time you had to go to registration at Uni to sort out the payment paperwork then afterwards it went straight in to your bank account.

Sorry this is really vague...has been a while!

DH has just graduated.

His loss were paid in roughly equal instalments monthly from October to April or may, the first payment was a little larger than the rest.

Hth.

Thanks both of you. Rhonda that is how I thought it was, but wanted to be sure before I start to lecture suggest to DD how to budget.
