DS1 went to university last year, and his loan was in his account in the first week of term, IIRC.

I think you have to get to university/college and register with them as an official student, and then the funds get released from the Student Loans company. But it should be done automatically/immediately, I think. (I'm guessing though!). Certainly DS1 didn't have to wait for his loan to arrive for very long.

DD was told the 24th Sep, or 3 working days of enrolment...whichever comes first

Crazy, that's probably whichever comes last, not first. You can't get it until you've enrolled for the year - my DCs have late starts - first week of October - and their loans don't hit the account until after they've enrolled for the year.

It is automatic - provided you've completed your paperwork in good time, it just appears in your account
