To mark the relaunch of Miffy, Simon & Schuster are offering you the chance to win an amazing Miffy lamp, worth £160. All you have to do is get your dcs to design a dress for Miffy.

Simply download the design Miffy a Dress template and get your child to create a lovely new dress for Miffy. Then take a photo of the design and upload it to this thread.

The comp is open until Thursday 13 March and we'll announce the winner of the Miffy lamp shortly after on this thread.

Find out more about Miffy, access the template and other Miffy-themed activities that your dcs can enjoy over the half-term.

This comp has been sponsored by Simon & Schuster.

Will get dd to enter. Not too sure where we'd out the lamp if she won though...

Loved Miffy when I was a child

PeaceEagle Fri 21-Feb-14 12:09:54

Ok, here are my 3 and 7 year old's efforts. Not sure dd really got the idea, but ds was proud of his design!

HauntedNoddyCar Fri 21-Feb-14 17:13:27

Huge Miffy fans here. I have my 1970s books and the dc have a set. I had Miffy stuff from around the world and I need the light!

HauntedNoddyCar Fri 21-Feb-14 17:16:13

In fact this is what Dd is wearing today

steppemum Fri 21-Feb-14 17:33:33

Not Miffy round here

Her name is Nijntje

She is Dutch.

<Sniffs snootily at Miffy and hoiks boosom>

steppemum Fri 21-Feb-14 17:34:13

not sure I actually want a lamp that size in my house confused

steppemum Fri 21-Feb-14 17:43:29

like your dds top though noddy

notsureofmyself Fri 21-Feb-14 18:58:29

I love the lamp! Will see if DS wants to do it.

southeastastra Fri 21-Feb-14 19:08:09

i want the floating head miffy sweatshirt too!

it's really just a colouring comp though isn't it. not much designing going on wink

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE Fri 21-Feb-14 19:23:03

Holy crap I want that lamp!

HauntedNoddyCar Fri 21-Feb-14 19:27:55

Steppemum we do have lots of proper Dutch stuff too. My mum went a bit mad on a trip to Holland smile

Pointeshoes Fri 21-Feb-14 19:32:00

I need that light. Will get ds to do it tommorw. But he's only 3... Miffy is known as Muffy in this house, it's also boy one in blue smile

LynetteScavo Fri 21-Feb-14 21:15:55

DS2 really likes the lamp!

He was very keen to design a dress for Miffy! grin

It's not up loading, though! angry]

ViviDeBeauvoir Fri 21-Feb-14 21:42:16

Ooh I saw this lamp when I was looking for nightlights for DD who is scared of the dark and I love it.
Best get the DC to work! smile

LynetteScavo Fri 21-Feb-14 22:03:26

Here

LynetteScavo Fri 21-Feb-14 22:04:10

Yay it worked! smile

steppemum Fri 21-Feb-14 22:13:59

Anyone got one of the books with Granny and Grnadpa in?

I always thought they were a little severe, black suits etc.

They are like very traditional Dutch grandparents.

LynetteScavo Fri 21-Feb-14 22:20:08

We had the one where Grandma died. sad

It was DD's first birthday present from us (not just that book - the set! grin) I think it's fallen apart now, as it was so well read.

HauntedNoddyCar Fri 21-Feb-14 23:16:01

The grandparents are in Miffy is crying iirc. They haven't seen her teddy.

steppemum Fri 21-Feb-14 23:55:28

There is a whole book around them. In Dutch it is called Oma and Opa Pluis (Pluis is their surname, it is similar to our word plush- like velvet, and sort of means cuddly toy)
They appear in lots of the books though, on Nijntje's birthday, and they take her to the seaside. Grandpa makes her a scooter at one point, and when her sister is born Grandma helps her make something for the baby.

Nijntje is short for Konijn. Konijn means rabbit. Konijntje means little rabbit, so Nijntje is short for little rabbit. Miffy means nothing at all sad

(my dutch spelling may be a little wobbly here)

Quinteszilla Sat 22-Feb-14 01:21:36

Miffy needs a new mouth more than she needs a new dress. Modern girls have a voice, rather a cross over their mouths to shut them up. sad that's how I see her... I know she is supposed to be a cute rabbit but eve so...

RandomMess Sat 22-Feb-14 09:51:43

Wow oh wow, I am making my dc apply because I need that lamp.

I am a die hard Nijntje fan. I had random people sending me baby kit over from the Netherlands for my dc - they still have Miffy bedding blush

The year I lived in the Netherlands was Nijntje bliss and best of all reading the books out loud in Dutch.

I don't have a printer sad

acsec Sat 22-Feb-14 13:16:20

I think the cross is actually her whiskers, not her mouth Quinteszilla - like Hello Kitty, Miffy has no mouth!

I would LOVE to own the lamp but DSS 9 will not design a dress for Miffy sad Maybe I can persuade my niece to do so!

RandomMess Sat 22-Feb-14 14:03:20

Also Nijntje was asexual (think that's the term?) for several years - much debate whether it was indeed male of female and then a dress finally appeared.

changejustforyou Sat 22-Feb-14 15:20:55

ok, so I never knew nijntje was short for konijntje!! Going to email and ask my sister now. (She lives in the Netherlands)

Indigoviolet3 Sat 22-Feb-14 17:31:32

These two are by Ruby aged 8 x

BeaHive Sun 23-Feb-14 06:07:58

How do you pronounce Nijntje?

RandomMess Sun 23-Feb-14 07:57:36

Hmmm sort of nine ch with the "ch" for church sound confused

Dutch is a fantastic language, learn the rules for pronounciation and then you can read it out loud.

nerysw Sun 23-Feb-14 08:56:35

Here's my daughters go at it. She's 4 and I have no idea why she decided to give Miffy a blue face but she's very proud of the spotty dress!

RandomMess Sun 23-Feb-14 09:06:47

Love the spots!

K8Middleton Sun 23-Feb-14 10:38:08

Wow that is an enormous lamp! Is there an alternative prize like a set of the books for those of us who cannot accommodate both a child and a lamp the size of a child?

AnneEyhtMeyer Sun 23-Feb-14 10:38:34

By DD aged 4 - she decided she wanted to a stripey one to go with her spotty one.

MamOfSteel Sun 23-Feb-14 14:11:35

'Miffy with yellow bows' By Aurora, age 5.

changejustforyou Sun 23-Feb-14 15:11:11

hm, seems all my friends know nijntje is from konijn, even my dad knew.....in fact they don't seem to get it that I didn't know

notsureofmyself Sun 23-Feb-14 15:21:34

The lamp is great! If you don't like the lamp maybe enter a different competition? Or give / sell the lamp to someone who does like it if you really want to enter and you win it?

RandomMess Sun 23-Feb-14 15:28:54

I am quite happy to give the lamp a home? I have seen them for sale and longed for one sad - take pity on me pretty please...

Even my dd is named after nijntje blush

This is Dd (4's effort).

She says its for Sunny days and that she would like to be 'Miffy Bunny'.

She's had a 'Miffy Bunny' since she was born, but it is now so ragged and brown looking I think even she would be embarrassed to have me take a picture wink

Karen05 Tue 25-Feb-14 13:57:13

Hi
Loving all the designs :-)
My daughters entry with the blue face and facepaint lol she is 5

Jiffy should read miffy (apologies miffy!)

LynetteScavo Tue 25-Feb-14 21:29:25

DD (8yo) thinks Miffy needs a bit of sparkle.

I need that light in my babies' lives!!!!

This has nothing to do with the Miffy apron i had when i was a little girl.
No.
Nor my love for Snuffy!
One of my little Miffy competition entrants once went to a Miffy exhibition and wore a Miffy dress for a full afternoon. All my little entrants are boys!

By DD aged 5

PhilippaB Wed 05-Mar-14 21:31:26

we have Stripey Flower Miffy, Watermelon Miffy and Apple Miffy by my daughters

My daughter Lucy's entry

RandomMess Sat 08-Mar-14 19:43:20

envy what lovely entries. Must get around to taking photos of the dds

Hopezibah Sat 08-Mar-14 20:21:59

All 3 of my children wanted to design Miffy a new dress. (hence 3 designs attached to this message)

So for Miffy's SS14 collection, D has designed a bright funky patterned dress with small pattern detail and then larger block pattern around it.

J has designed a fruity dress with all sorts of Miffy's favourite fruits featured on there.

And my youngest, who is only 1 year old, has, in true 1 year old style, designed Miffy the ultimate scribble dress! She'll be the envy of all her friends wearing these colourful scribbles.

Byrdie Mon 10-Mar-14 18:28:44

my daughters efforts! Emily (6), Elsie (3) and Eve (she's just been born so is only 10 days old but her older sisters felt strongly that she should have an entry so it was a team effort from them for her!)

ArriettyC Mon 10-Mar-14 18:59:46

Here is the entry from my DD age 7 smile

princessnumber2 Tue 11-Mar-14 10:14:37

DD1 (Age 7) (who keeps asking for confirmation that, if she wins, the lamp would be kept in her room as I have been known to import miffy calendars from Japan blush)

princessnumber2 Tue 11-Mar-14 10:18:34

DD2 (Aged 2) (Not so keen on staying inside the lines...)

Fleur78 Tue 11-Mar-14 16:04:45

Hi enjoy the artwork x both very keen on winning this gorgeous Miffy lamp, in unlikely event of either of them being picked might have to go on the landing between the two of them!

My daughter Aimee age 4
My son Frankie age 6

Kendodd Tue 11-Mar-14 16:09:12

I think you mean 'win a lamp costing £160' I doubt that lamp is worth £160 (lovely though it is).

SE13Mummy Thu 13-Mar-14 00:10:30

Here are DD2's Miffy designs...somewhat different in style from each other.

I can't remember the thinking behind the rainbowesque face that one of the designs seems to include. DD2 is 4 and is fast asleep but asked me before she went to bed if I'd remembered to send her colourings off blush.

HauntedNoddyCar Thu 13-Mar-14 09:30:04

Dd is 7 and has done carrots with supporting notes. A

HauntedNoddyCar Thu 13-Mar-14 09:33:59

Don't think it's working. Argh

Congratulations to PhilippaB and her DD's design for Stripy Flower Miffy. You have won the wonderful Miffy lamp worth £160 - we will be in contact on how to claim your prize. We will also post a gallery of our top ten dress designs coming soon grin

Workingmum110 Thu 13-Mar-14 19:39:18

Daughter is a super Miffy fan! She would trade the lamp for her bed! Entry 1......

Workingmum110 Thu 13-Mar-14 19:41:33

I thought the competition was open til today? There was no time shown to end it?My daughter did them this morning and I didn't get home from work til late ... Very disappointed! Congrats to winner tho

Can you ask them for a cheeky MN discount for said lamp as I think I need one. grin

HauntedNoddyCar Thu 13-Mar-14 19:55:56

Oh yes! A discount would be great. Dh made buying one noises when he came home until I told him the price.

LynetteScavo Thu 13-Mar-14 20:10:27

DS2 has repeatedly been asking if he's won the Miffy Lamp! This is going to be one of those learning to cope with disappointment moments for him.

Congratulations PhilippaB, I do like that stripy flower dress! smile

(I do think Miffy should also have a gold sparkly dress for special occasions , though grin)

PhilippaB Thu 13-Mar-14 20:52:56

DD1 leaping around the house in excitement! Thanks for choosing her stripy flower design and to other MNers for kind comments:-)

Enjoy your lamp... I don't begrudge you it at all hmm wink

iclaudius Thu 13-Mar-14 21:40:45

me neither <sniff>

HauntedNoddyCar Thu 13-Mar-14 23:25:55

The stripy dress is rather darn fetching smile

I also really liked SuperMiffy.

LynetteScavo Fri 14-Mar-14 18:35:50

I wouldn't mess with SuperMiffy!
