HELP! The MNHQ Christmas tree is naked - prizes to be won

(80 Posts)
RebeccaMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 02-Dec-13 11:42:57

So this year at MNHQ, we have gorn all out with the festivities.

Emoticons are live - fgrin we have some AMAZING competitions that only run for 12 days, so keep coming back on Mumsnet and on our Facebook page, we have vouchers, a holiday, a TV and A CAR to give away fshock so do go and take a look at both (that's 24 chances to win!), we have a naughty Elf on the Shelf playing up at The Towers, look out for the pictures..

...and last week we had a beautiful tree delivered into the office from The Good Elf .

But here's the problem, it's bare! fsad

We would love for you to send in your homemade decorations so we can fill our lovely tree and we will be giving some prizes for the "best".

We made an angel for the top of our tree last week and we hope that she will inspire you and help you to see what level of "best" we are working on fgrin

The Rules
The decoration has to be homemade.
It can be made by you or the DC or any family member.
Extra points are given for use of glue and glittery shit.
The tackier, the better.

WE CANNOT RETURN THE DECORATIONS, SO PLEASE DON'T SEND PRECIOUS WORKS OF <ahem> ART

Please send them into:
The Community Team
MNHQ
Studio 6, Deane House Studios,
Greenwood Place,
Highgate Road,
London NW5 1LB

And add a note with your posting name so we can find you if you are a winner.

Good luck and do check back for pictures, we will also be adding images to our Pinterest page, Facebook , Twitter and here on the thread over the coming weeks.

Merry Christmas fsmile and thanks to the Woolly Huggers for the bunting fgrin

RowanMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 02-Dec-13 11:53:18

And for anyone who's wondering, the, um, festive disco emu was lovingly crafted by members of MN staff who may want to remain nameless

KateSMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 02-Dec-13 12:47:23

Oh dear. This little fellow came to us from The Elf Company, so we asked him to do a tea run, but it looks like he found our supplies for the Christmas party instead. Must hide it better next time...

HarkTEEHeraldAngelsSing Mon 02-Dec-13 12:49:16

Are you sure asking for 'glittery shit' is such a good idea with Poo Trolls around?

fgrin

KateSMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 02-Dec-13 12:56:24
HarkTEEHeraldAngelsSing Mon 02-Dec-13 13:03:28

fgrin Kate.

HepsiBaubleMistletoes Mon 02-Dec-13 14:56:48

There is no way that's your supplies. Look at the bottle size. We all know that you only get your spirits delivered in gallon barrels.

ArtisanLentilWeaver Mon 02-Dec-13 15:08:16

Here for inspiration! fgrin

Wtf the eye one fshock

Brilliant I will get the kids on this right away.

Oh boy the glitter gates have opened

This is hilarious. Will need to stock up on tat for imminent horrific crafts

Lifeofatortoise Mon 02-Dec-13 18:21:57

Glittery shit in an envelope, hope you have a good vacuum to hand!

TeamEdward Mon 02-Dec-13 18:34:53

Hapsi, that is the bottle for the MNHQ Christmas Shindig. The Elf is actually about the size of the Statue of Liberty.

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights Mon 02-Dec-13 19:14:49

I hope you get lots of lovely decorations fsmile.

Frankly, I can barely get my own shit together this year - let alone glittery shit to you in time for Christmas, not even with mega expensive help from Kate fgrin

Sorry! fsad

SPsComingOnSavioursDay Mon 02-Dec-13 19:19:05

Ohhhh I have ideas already!

<evil cackle>

lookoveryourshouldernow Mon 02-Dec-13 20:03:29

What's the closing date for this "Truly Tacky Technicolour Tree of Travesty" ??

MiniSoksMakeHardWork Mon 02-Dec-13 20:13:41

Dc4 had glittery shit last year. After I discovered them noshing on tinsel!

Marking place so I hopefully don't forget! fgrin

numberoneidiot Mon 02-Dec-13 20:45:07

Do you mean 12 HOURS rather than days?!

numberoneidiot Mon 02-Dec-13 20:45:52

Oh ignore me, can't count the number of hours in a day <mutter, mutter>

VworpVworp Mon 02-Dec-13 21:09:12

Aw- if we all get our children to make them, will they all win on cuteness factor??? grin

TheBitchesOfWeestick Mon 02-Dec-13 21:09:57

I feel a trip to Wilkos coming on...

Why are posts being deleted?! WTAF could people be saying on this thread that would mean they have to be deleted? Please send me a PM if necessary ... grin

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage Mon 02-Dec-13 21:58:21

Just what I was thinking BIWI.

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 02-Dec-13 22:47:06

That elf must be ginooooormous look how teeny that vodka looks! fgrin

moldingsunbeams Tue 03-Dec-13 10:10:07

You do not what you have done don't you saying the more glittery shit the better, once dd gets wind of this you will be hoovering it up for weeks.

KnottyLocks Tue 03-Dec-13 11:27:20

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

What were the deleted posts all about?
I actually saw some actual glittery shit a couple of hours ago.
I went and did some domestic labour for a young family. I needed to go to the garden to empty some bins.
Their gorgeous staffy had done some plops which had gone mouldy. When I saw them there was a layer of mould then frost.
Pretty greeny coloured glittery shit.

Maryz Tue 03-Dec-13 22:45:06

And now I know what they do there all day shock

I have knitted 72 be-yoo-tee-fulllll decorations to sell at the school Xmas fair on saturday coming, but should there happen to be one left, I will send it to you grin and should oh frabjous day there be none left, I will knit a new one just for you grin
(Is now a good time to mention Melvyn Tibbles the Festive Tadpole at all? grin ) - nahhh that's a whole other thread... grin

There is glitter shite over my sodding kitchen so i'm sending it your way any other glittery shite my kids dare to come home with will be left outside before it reaches the front door!

"There is no way that's your supplies. Look at the bottle size. We all know that you only get your spirits delivered in gallon barrels."

That's pretty much what I said when they linked the picture on their facebook! grin

lookoveryourshouldernow Wed 04-Dec-13 21:39:46

... working on my little creation as we speak and up to my elbows in card and glitter and glue - but if you are feeling pre-menstrual and need a little inspiration ...

Cute Little Angel

bluebump Wed 04-Dec-13 21:48:56

My 5 year old is up for the challenge of winning me a car grin I'll open the craft cupboard and let him at it!

MisForMumNotMaid Wed 04-Dec-13 21:54:15

Ohh creative crafts for the weekend. DS1 would want to keep the car for himself though. Hope its made from Lego!

RatherBeOnThePiste Wed 04-Dec-13 22:02:07

Mine is merrily shedding glitter and sequins all over Rebeca's desk.

I made a fairy for the tree. fsmile

And not only is it beautiful, it is functional. There's probs still enough washing up liquid in there to do Christmas Day. Nice touch I thought. Win, win.

fgrin

I LOVE this! Thank you so much - can't wait to get in and see it fgrin

RebeccaMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 05-Dec-13 09:12:24

As if by magic!....

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 05-Dec-13 13:06:47

Awwwww my fairy!

<beams>

And look! Tis with Knotty's bunt. Smashing fgrin

lookoveryourshouldernow Thu 05-Dec-13 19:11:12

...that tree still looks pretty bare.... it's needs some long and glittery to brighten it up fgrin

RebeccaMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 09-Dec-13 11:36:50

LOOK! Thanks JustShootMeNow grin just perfick not cross at my glitter covered desk fwink

SirBoobAlot Mon 09-Dec-13 12:32:08

DS is playing with glitter when he gets back from playschool whether he likes it or not.

Piste I shouldn't be surprised the fairy is from you fgrin.

JulesJules Mon 09-Dec-13 15:54:01

I'm sending you something, but I'm glittering it up a bit first...

lookoveryourshouldernow Mon 09-Dec-13 18:17:09

...my offering (s) went out today ... should be with you shortly...

RatherBeOnThePiste Mon 09-Dec-13 19:12:23

Jules - tis not a relative of Bobina's is it?

<worried>

I'm not sure they'd look after her nicely enough. Send to me! envy

ds came home with what I presume was a pocket full of glitter! I washed his uniform along with some of my underwear and now the whole lot sparkles and so does the machine!

JulesJules Tue 10-Dec-13 05:27:34

Not a relative of Bobina's! I knitted a knitting basket and put a ball of golden yarn in it. I don't think it's going to be sparkly enough for the MN tree though grin

DecorKateTheXmasTreeMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 10-Dec-13 12:32:03

We are VERY impressed with LookOverYourShoulder's contribution, which arrived this morning lovingly wrapped in an egg box. Justine was tickled pink with the photo frames fgrin

Marmitemadmummy Tue 10-Dec-13 18:33:42

Making this cheered up my DD who got sent home from school poorly. Will be in the post to you tomorrow if we can get out. Merry Christmas!

Marmitemadmummy Tue 10-Dec-13 18:36:12

DD also very umm good at decorating trees if you need help. I banned tinsel from mine following mumsnet advice but she wouldn't listen for her small tree....

Shaky Tue 10-Dec-13 18:58:41

I have made this for you. I hope you like it,

lookoveryourshouldernow Wed 11-Dec-13 00:39:34

...oh my babies have arrived intact - that is good news..

I was in two minds whether to adorn the fimo picture frames with a little glitter - as they were baked in the same oven as our dinner - I was not sure whether Justine was a Vegetarian on not - or allergic to nuts or something - you can never be too sure these days!!

Reastie Thu 12-Dec-13 07:19:31

Right, task for the day is to make a decoration and send it. I've bought glitter glue especially for the occasion grin .

DecorKateTheXmasTreeMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 12-Dec-13 11:31:54

Ooh the tree is shaping up nicely now. The exquisitely executed glittery Fruit Shoot bottle ('scuse my hand) is from marmitemadmummy and her DD fsmile.

The luffly little knitted bag ornament is from JulesJules and elicited many gasps of amazement from the office.

You can see our tree is looking more jolly, but there's still plenty of room for other creations fwink

fgrin Justine was saying she might hand them out to friends and family after Christmas

Reastie Thu 12-Dec-13 12:43:15

Looking good DecorKate smile My attempts are not so flash as these but DD and I have spent the morning working on them so assuming the glitter glue is dry in time <crosses fingers> will post later.

Reastie Thu 12-Dec-13 16:22:53

All sent and on their way to MNHQ, hopefully should arrive tomorrow grin

Shaky Thu 12-Dec-13 22:02:01

Gah! I have been past eleventy million post boxes today and have still forgotten to post your decoration. It is STILL in my handbag, sorry.

It shall be on it's way to the glorious MN Christmas Tree first thing in the morning.

Apologies.

caramelwaffle Thu 12-Dec-13 22:09:50

Exte

caramelwaffle Thu 12-Dec-13 22:12:14

Extension of deadline? <flutters eyelashes>

Otherwise it is hand delivery on Saturday.

Kveta Fri 13-Dec-13 07:35:03

Ours are finally dry, and going in the post this morning. They are VERY shit, and a bit glittery! Hope they make it before Christmas!

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 13-Dec-13 08:20:40

Awwwww. You didn't need to wait until they were dry Kveta.

fsmile

DecorKateTheXmasTreeMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 16-Dec-13 16:35:01

<squeee> The tree is looking so good now! Thank you vair much for all the luffly things you've sent in. We had a lot of fun opening that packages and popping the bubble wrap this morning.

Small confession - we got a bit overexcited with all the unwrapping and forgot to note down who the beautiful Yuleabu bauble came from fblush. After forensic ribbon analysis we're fairly sure it's Reastie - but if we're got this wrong we apologise unreservedly flowers

The lovely tree bunting is deffo from Reastie though <touches wood>. EmmaMumsnet has already said she's going to be copying your technique for next year fgrin

DecorKateTheXmasTreeMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 16-Dec-13 16:40:16

Kveta has sent in three icicles made from milk bottles and a silvery tree, both made by her DC - they have warmed our cockles with their adorableness (new word)

DecorKateTheXmasTreeMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 16-Dec-13 16:42:36

This decoration combines a handmade disco aesthetic and biscuit vibes, so obviously we love it, and will be trying to recreate the disco/biscuit look in our own decor. Thank you forcookssake!

DecorKateTheXmasTreeMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 16-Dec-13 16:51:03

Your decoration is now twinkling on our tree Shaky. You can also tell your DS his card is one the finest examples of "cutting and pasting" we've ever seen fsmile

DecorKateTheXmasTreeMumsnet (MNHQ) Mon 16-Dec-13 17:13:53

Doesthatmakesense has, as they say in crafting circles, hella strong bunting game. We like it very much.

ReastieYuleANBU Mon 16-Dec-13 18:04:55

Kate you are indeed correct, both of those are mine, good use of forensic ribbon analysis there fgrin .

Kveta Mon 16-Dec-13 19:01:07

oh, good, glad our recycled tat beautiful handiwork made it to MNHQ fgrin

Shaky Mon 16-Dec-13 20:38:56

Ooh, I'm glad you like it and ds was very proud of his card fsmile

lookoveryourshouldernow Sat 04-Jan-14 01:08:21

.......can't be long now - as it is nearly 12th night...

Guess they maybe busy trying to source acid-free organic tissue paper to wrap our "lovely crafted crap efforts" .. into a suitable re-cycling container - which in olden times was called "the bin" ....

<bursts in dramatically>

As if! The decs are currently being lovingly stored on top of a cabinet.

Sorry for the delay folks, all the contribution were truly excellent and we had a tough job whittling them down to the winners. Give yourselves a pat on the back.

In no particular order - the winners are <drumroll>

Reastie with her lovely tree bunting, marmitemadmummy with the fab glittery fruit shoot and LookOverYourShoulder's beautiful emoticons and Justine frames grin

We'll be PMing you momentarily - congrats!
