Welcome to the May Fledgling FLYers thread! :-)
... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent.

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

- start or repeat baby steps

- repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

- reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.
[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on. Thanks to SC, Blue, Silvery and Goth for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

Castlelough Sun 28-Apr-13 23:06:56

I'll be back in a couple of days with the links for the 1st of May! smile

superfluouscurves Mon 29-Apr-13 07:30:40

SC sprints in with mop and bucket... and three empty cardboard boxes marked "donate", "chuck" and "keep"!

Huge thanks to Goth for leading us so well throughout April, and to Castle for volunteering to lead in May flowers flowers

Have high hopes for this month decluttering-wise but there again I always say that wink

I'll mark my spot even though I spent most of April in the naughty corner, thanks Castle and thanks Goth for April's thread.

CHBitchy Mon 29-Apr-13 10:24:49

<sets up the naughty corner bar.>

This month is clearly not going to be my month, it is going to be insane. winkgrin

superfluouscurves Mon 29-Apr-13 11:11:40

Hi there Whoknows What have you been up to?? [nosy emoticon]

[Plans to join Bitchy in the bar this evening]

CHBitchy Mon 29-Apr-13 15:47:03

I'd like to say that there is pie left but me and ds just ate the last of it [happy piggies] grin

Not a hugely productive day and have two choices about how to plan this afternoon and tomo. Not sure which way to swing it yet but I think a coffee and a change of laundry in machine might give me just enough chance to decide.

superfluouscurves Mon 29-Apr-13 17:03:57

What, no more pie????? shock

superfluouscurves Mon 29-Apr-13 17:07:23

Waves back to Whoknows [just read your answer on other thread] hat's off to you - not sure I could stand that many visitors!!

Every single one of them was DH's family or friends too. Last week we had different ones on consecutive nights <considers opening B&B>. I had the jury service in the middle of it all too, no wonder I feel all behind.

CHBitchy Mon 29-Apr-13 17:47:48

Oi you horrible lot there is an extra day left of april. Don't be going debunking off the old thread until the first shock

GoingGoingGoth Mon 29-Apr-13 18:49:15

Thought I better mark my place. grin

Engelsemama Tue 30-Apr-13 09:28:42

Marking my place for tomorrow!

Marking spot. Thanks to castle and goth thanks

Castlelough Tue 30-Apr-13 20:16:50

Babystep 1 (Shining your Sink!) and an explanation of the Babysteps can be found here

The Daily Focus for Wednesday is Anti-Procrastination…

We’re in Zone 1- The Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room from today until the end of the week. We are decluttering in this zone for 15 minutes a day. For those who have finished decluttering the link for the Detailed Cleaning List can also be found here.

Today’s mission is to wipe any smudges on the walls and windows of the Dining Room.

The Flight plan for our daily routines, should update automatically.

Finally, the habit for the month of May is to get Moving!

Castlelough Tue 30-Apr-13 20:22:38

ToffeeWhirl Tue 30-Apr-13 21:12:26

superfluouscurves Wed 01-May-13 00:30:43

Ooooh, I was hoping it really was April all over again grin ... could do with catching up!!

Thanks for first links Castle!!

[Delivers more wine to Goth in naughty corner, to celebrate a job well done!]

Anyone preparing to thread daisies through their locks and wash their face in dew at first light? Owing to a surfeit of rabbit droppings , I think I might pass this year wink

SilveryMoon Wed 01-May-13 03:03:04

Can't believe it's may already! So last night I did manage some ironing but havejust realised I went to bed without washing up so that'll have to be done first thing or boys will have to eat cereal from the box blush
Got ab bit of a headache which I hope passes.

Trazzletoes Wed 01-May-13 07:41:52

Hi ladies, I'm back!

Engelsemama Wed 01-May-13 07:57:08

Morning Trazzles - have been following your thread and thinking of you all.

Engelsemama Wed 01-May-13 07:57:53

Will be back with my list in a bit. Going out for a run now (am on May holiday this week and DS is at nursery today).

Castlelough Wed 01-May-13 08:23:20

Happy May Day everyone! smile

Welcome back Trazzles ! Delighted to have you back. grin and [hug]

Waves to SC , WhoKnows , Bitchy , Goth , Engels , Blue , Toffee , Swan , LPlate , Louise , Elliepac , Ellietrying and anybody else I’ve missed!

Ta da:
Morning walk, reboot laundry shock, breakfast!

Got to dash! Hope you feel better Silvery and don't worry about the dishes - catch up later! x

GoingGoingGoth Wed 01-May-13 09:26:43

Morning all

<hug> for Trazzle, nice to see you back.

At work between 11 & 9 today, so already sliding into the naughty corner, going to the supermarket with DH this morning, so will load him up with stuff to bring home, as I head off to work grin

Dd to school in time (despite me not getting up until 8:30 shock)

But I do have a shiny sink both at home & at work!

Honu Wed 01-May-13 09:38:48

Did I post at all last month? I think not! Still, have been following the thread and attempting to fly. Thanks Goth for last month and Castle for being brave enough to do this month thanks

I think it was Elliepac who said this Flylady thing works if you do it (my italics). She's right but it's worse than trying to rollerskate - you just think you're getting the hang of it then you fall off again.

I find the more I put into the routines the more I get done, but it all seems to take up too much time (too many routines looking after DH and he moves so slowly!). I have made a list of tiny jobs (eg winding clock, putting salt in softener) that only take less than 10 mins in total and do them all on a Tuesday morning which means I don't have to think about them the rest of the time.

Have now run over my 15mins MN time so will go and see what's in the May naughty corner

SilveryMoon Wed 01-May-13 10:36:32

Made beds
Washed up from last night
Laundry on
Swished and swiped
Showered and dressed
Packed school bags
Dropped boys off
Came to work

Jamillalliamilli Wed 01-May-13 11:38:28

Waves to all.
I couldn’t face coming in here last month and saying that we got back from the break to find the whole insurance deal had fallen through, half our worldly goods (and all the damaged stuff) in storage with the bill unpaid, and we’re still in bedinshed and up the creek sans paddle.

I was hoping I’d still pull it all back together, but we’ve also had a death, and illness, and exhausted CAB and CLS resources, and I’m running out of money.
So new plan: is cut all losses, and not rely on anything but my own abilities which may not be great, but at least I’ll know if I’m going to let myself down!

Additional personal habit for May is going to be trying to learn to recognise I have my own messes to deal with, and don’t let other people’s overshadow them, and put myself first. (if that sounds selfish, sorry)

May has to see many changes happen here.

Still to do
Strip and remake bed
Contact people re funeral
Attack kitchen
Prep practise ISA for d/s
Research psychology module
Work out what else I should be doing
Sort dinner
Call friend but just don’t be dragged in

GoingGoingGoth Wed 01-May-13 11:47:06

Just! How awful for you, you are not being selfish, you need to make yourself a priority. Sometimes you just have to say enough is enough. <hug>

CHBitchy Wed 01-May-13 11:48:00

Just not selfish ABOUT TIME!!! You need to look after yourself. Am sorry everything went tits up. <hugs> hope you can manage to resolve the situation such that it is a considerable improvement on what it currently is.

Whilst I lacked motivation at the start of yesterday, I did discover it as I went along. Today I am suffering the effects of burnout and a 20hr day. feel like death frozen.

Ta da
dough in bread machine for pizza for tea
sort ds' kit out
make my bed
plan of action wrt ds and school.

Need to gather the will to get into ds' room. he appears to have blocked the door so only skinny little people can access it again. hmm

Craftsonsea Wed 01-May-13 12:33:35

Afternoon all! Returning to this thread after doing flylady about 18 months ago and then stopping and umm.... Getting a very messy house. Was planning to start yesterday but cba, mentioned it on twitter and was then reminded to come back over here by blue eyeshadow so thank you! (I think?!?) am a sahm, with a 2yo and pregnant and morning sickness has left my place in a state. Still one step at a time! Going to hang some washing out now and try to pop in everyday, just tried to read the proper flylady site and wanted to kill her within 20 seconds so much nicer to come here and be given instructions!

CHBitchy Wed 01-May-13 12:42:17

trazzles so lovely to see you sweetie. <hugs>

blames chocolate, lack of sleep and hormones if anyone wonders about the lack of bitchiness

Well hello there!

I am shame facedly having to return to this thread after a massive ding dong little "mis-understanding" with my cleaner and her walking out and me shouting rather crossly at her down the road! blush
So, until we can find another, more reliable and less hormonal cleaner who does not expect to be paid for a week she didn't work when she didnt bother telling me she was going on holiday! then it is me doing the housework and I really need to keep on top of it, so I will be looking here for a bit of encouragement and a massive kick up the massive backside

So, although its a bit different over here (I live over seas for those who dont know me) and priorities are very different, I am here and hope to hang around this month.

Just had a quick scroll and I noticed some "old" names, so hi to you and hello to all those who have not had the pleasure of my company before grin Have some of you name changed, too. I might need an idiots guide to any name changers. confused

I am also 6 hours ahead of you, so I have given up for tonight already. Today has been busy with work and way too hot to actually move any muscles other than the essential ones, and have done the hugely embarrassing total of absolutely nothing other than cook tea. Oh, i did put some washing in the machine - yes, I have a machine now, but the electrics are scarily dodgy, the power cable causes serious danger of strangulation whenever it is on and I have to time my washing to not be going if there is any danger of any rain as the power point is outside - yes, really!!! (kitchen is outside) BUT the washing is still in the machine as I can't be bothered to get it out tonight, I will do it first thing in the morning. Must remember or it will be mouldy by this time tomorrow.

Hi Bitchy - Id recognise you anywhere! grin

CHBitchy Wed 01-May-13 13:10:28

blush hello Pa grin

NickNacks Wed 01-May-13 13:19:55

Waves to PA! How are you?

I'll slink in but can't promise to post every day, I'm pooped each evening.

Quick list

Send home sick child hmm
Renew PLI
Collect new driving license form
Fill out said form
Post form

Cleaner has been here this morning so I'm gutted that a sick child has puked all over the floor. Means extra bleaching for me, very phobic about vomit too so I feel awful right now.

Thanks for running the thread castle. smile

Afternoon all.

Waves to crafts - nice to see you. smile

PA and Trazzles - lovely to see you too.

Just so sorry to hear you've had more troubles.

Well so far, I've mainly been working, but have come to a grinding halt due to half the footnotes being missing from this text. I've done some ironing and wondering whether to go and play in the sunshine or whether the rest of the text will appear in my absence if I do.

Trazzletoes Wed 01-May-13 13:43:08

My list is:

Do the washing up
Replace broken washing line
Laundry reboot
Take out bins
Spend 5 minutes on desk hotspot
Clean coffee table
30 day shred

Already done:
Been to town for fun and frolics and waffles
Made bed
Hung out last night's washing

Hi everyone, I hope you have all been keeping well. Thanks for having me back. Just I'm sorry to hear you have had such a horrible time. You aren't being selfish at all.

DorisShutt Wed 01-May-13 16:34:45

Posting from train on way home from office.

Today my ta-da is basically
- get up
- DS to nursery
- go to work and actually work!

Not hugely exciting, but I'm quite pleased in that I've also started my first 5:2 fast day, and I'm quite hungry, but it's not terrible and I've got dinner to look forward to smile

Now, more importantly, Blue what's your blog?!

Oh well, if you insist, Doris it's on books, reading and translation and called A Discount Ticket to Everywhere.

If you're looking for blogs to follow, check out the Mumsnet Bloggers. crafts has a lovely blog there too.

DorisShutt Wed 01-May-13 17:39:01

Well that's my evening reading sorted smile

Thanks - looks interesting!

Craftsonsea Wed 01-May-13 19:37:23

Sorry if I outed you blue!! Still aiming to get sink clean tonight but can't imagine doing the full fly lady instructs on cleaning it, has anyone else done this? Also not feeling like the worlds best housewife after setting new tea towel alight while cooking dinner, sigh...
Good luck Doris with the 5:2 smile

GoingGoingGoth Wed 01-May-13 21:08:57

Just popping in, not done much at home today, but did get back from work to be greeted with DD in bed, a bowl of strawberries & cream, a cup of tea & DH doing the washing up! Plus he'd mended my walking boots grin

Have put a load of washing on for the morning, and put all of yesterday's washing away.

Craft I only do the full shine sink when it gets in a really bad state (surprisingly not that often) It did need it when I started Flying blush &I do make sure it's all wiped down every night, and that keeps it up to standard.

ellesabe Wed 01-May-13 21:09:45

OK this time I'm really back after completely falling off the wagon for the whole of April blush

A bit of a non-day today I think. Let's see...

Breakfast done
Shower and dress done
Toddler group done
Lunch * done*
Another toddler group <sigh> done
Dinner done
Bath dc and put to bed done
Attempt to fix sewing machine fail
Countersign friend's passport form
Finish my book

Trazzle - Fun and frolicks and waffles eh? Sounds like my kind of day!
Castle - Thanks for the thread
Crafts - Ooh pregnant! My dd1 was 2 when my dd2 was born. It's a lovely age gap. Remember to put your feet up. You get first dibs on cake in the naughty corner grin
PA - In useless at keeping up with name-changers...

<Wing flaps to everyone else> flowers

ellesabe Wed 01-May-13 21:11:30

Goth I just had a vision of your dd in bed with a bowl of strawberries and cream and a cup of tea grin

Evening all

Doris - I had my first fast day yesterday and it went well, next is tomorrow. Pigged out a bit today though blush.

Good to see so many returners back on the thread.

Just - so sorry the insurance hasn't covered things and that you are still struggling, also that you have suffered a bereavement <hugs>

PA - I'm off to your neck of the woods (the British one) for the long weekend on Friday, we are all very excited.

OK, ta-da!

Morning routine, school etc
Home for lots of procrastination and a little bit of gardening

Then decided to get stuck into the DCs room, which has been a tip for weeks (badly arranged furniture, not enough storage boxes). 2 hours of sorting and shifting and it is SO much better, lots more floor space and everything sorted out (well, a couple of big tubs of stuff to put away in other rooms, but the back of it has been broken).

Also managed to tidy and dust/wipe down the spare/playroom, which was fairly tidy having been mainly used as a guestroom in the last few weeks.

My daily zones seem to be working well this week, definitely better than Flylady style weekly ones.

Night all.

GoingGoingGoth Wed 01-May-13 22:00:27

ellesabe swap the tea for a book and it would be her idea of heaven (mine too) grin

SilveryMoon Wed 01-May-13 22:12:28

Good evening all
Castle thanks for running the thread this month grin

Sorted dry clothes
Non iron away
Stray items away
Put out clothes
Packed school bags (minus lunch boxes and uniforms etc)
Mad epacked lunch
Detailed clean (hovered the walls and skirting boards in hallway, entrance and bathroom - dp thinks I’m crazy, but I don’t like feather dusters so use the hoover and do the entire wall instead of just the ceiling corners. Am I crazy? Probably)
Study (yay)

Now having a glass of wine and watching Grey’s.

Castlelough Wed 01-May-13 22:17:03

Babystep 2 is to get dressed to your shoes in the mornings.
(Many among us find that slippers do just as well, though shoes --or wellies grin--mean I’ve no excuse not to wade out to the washing line or the compost bin etc…)

The Daily Focus for Thursday is Errand Day.

We’re in Zone 1- The Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room until the end of the week. We are decluttering, or detailed cleaning, in this zone for 15 minutes a day.

Today’s mission is to rescue the Entrance area of your home – tidy away abandoned shoes, coats, and books.

The Flight plan for our daily routines, should update automatically.

Finally, the habit for the month of May is to get Moving!

Castlelough Wed 01-May-13 22:38:11

Good night evening, lovely fledglings!

The thread has been very very busy today! Everyone is full of good intentions for the start of the month grin - let's keep it this way!
Mind you, I am not going to manage the lovely round-ups that Goth did thanks - I'll do my best, though, hopefully that will be okay blush

Firstly....a very warm and enthusiastic welcome back to Trazzles , Honu , Just , Crafts , NickNacks , Ellesabe and PA grin. We missed you!!!

I think Honu had the best line of the day: This Flylady thing works if you do it. She's right but it's worse than trying to rollerskate - you just think you're getting the hang of it then you fall off again. grin Wishing everybody a successful month!

Since our habit this month is Moving I just wanted to mention that last summer a few of us became friends on 'MyFitnessPal' (website/app) to encourage each other on the bodyclutter front. My name is the same on that as it is here, if anybody else wants to join us!

Just - it sounds like it is TIME to put yourself first! And it is NOT selfish – you seem to have an awful lot to deal with at the moment. Sorry to hear about the death in the family.
Crafts - I’m quaking in my pyjamas here! Do not overestimate my ability to lead this flock better than the FLYlady herself! And by the way I’m not in the running for world’s best housewife either after burning the beans this evening blush And congrats on your pregnancy! <leaves a crate of non-alcoholic bubbly in the naughty corner just in case an impromptu party breaks out and I amn’t around to look after you >
PA I hope you get your new cleaner sorted quickly and Bitchy I hope you get the heating fixed although I hope you don’t get the weather you are expecting

Big wingflaps to SC , WhoKnows , Goth , Engels , Blue , Toffee , Silvery , Swan , LPlate , Louise , Elliepac , Ellietrying , Doris , Lauren if she is about , and anyone else I have forgotten to mention!

Ta Da:
Hmmm .... I nailed the Moving bit (morning walk, 4 mile run after school and then gaelic football training this evening) today, but may not be able to move at all tomorrow! blush

To Do:
Shine my sink shock as in: wash dishes and wipe it clean
Practise crappy keyboard piano

Nite all!

Hmm, thought I'd posted earlier but apparently I didn't.

Oh well. Have been to Zumba so definitely Moving! Need to go to bed now though.

Just to say, don't worry crafts - I mentioned the blog on the last thread and Doris was asking about it there.

Swanhilda Wed 01-May-13 23:09:07

Hi all, I'm vaulting over the April thread fence into the May field...

broad green sward dotted with SC's daisies and little tables set up with plenty of pies and waffles. No litter and no clutter, and if there is, may it be re-labelled "picnic sundries"

Rather a lot of cats here, I think I have been uncharacteristically outfluffed.

Just I sympathise in that the same problems seem to remain month after month...only one's method of dealing with them can really change.
Trazzle a big hug to you

today pluses
new playroom/telly room looks very welcoming if we can keep the evil cat that keeps coming in through catflap and spraying it at bay
new kitchen is blissful - I am loving having a sink near to the cooker!!!! My old kitchen was so badly arranged I shudder to remember - how did I put up with it for so long?
did food shopping
ds2 to literacy tutor - she says she is worried about his hearing, and misunderstanding of phonemes, and he needs to see an Ed Pysch before secondary sad
Family Therapy in morning

felt knackered by 3.30 and went to sleep for an hour on sofa with cat no 2 (Fernando)
hideous fight between sons over a game of cricket which ds1 did not want to play, ended up with 13 year old swearing and me hiding the wicket
stirfry for supper
helped at Beavers
washed uniform yet again
Dd spent most of afternoon at a friend's house
reloaded dw twice, and kept worktops clean
cat maintenance and love-ins!

Swanhilda Wed 01-May-13 23:22:57

Blue v interested to read your blog. Dh is a German who finds it impossible to move between languages, he can think/read in English or in German or in Italian but not translate.

Better go to bed now...another day of trying to sort stuff out tomorrow, still an enormous backlog after building work - garden, paperwork, children's lives, social life. Every day I try and do one "backloggy" thing, today it was paying a bill (maybe that doesn't count as backlog but centrelog) but there is always more NEW stuff coming at me to unravel before I've even tackled the old stuff...

Right tomorrow I am determined to order a receptacle of some sort for my room so there is somewhere to store my socks/tights/undies. At the moment they are all in a heap in a basket for last five years, and Dh has a chest of drawers. Even a plastic chest of drawers would be better than a basket! And I need to tackle the garden or in June I will still be looking at an empty flowerbed...

Trazzletoes Thu 02-May-13 06:46:15

For once I achieved everything on my list! Yeah! (Well, apart from the shred... Oh well smile )

Quick tidy of living room before visitors arrive
Take DD to nursery
Laundry reboot (I am SO happy to have a washing line again!)
Empty dishwasher
15 minutes on desk hotspot
Sketch meal plan for next week
Make sure house isn't too awful for community nurse visit at 8am tomorrow
Oh and phone community nurse to make sure she brings the right stuff.

Thank you for all the welcome backs! smile

Whoknows - have a fab time over there and give a big wave for me as you drive round. Are you going back to your usual haunt?

A fairly productive day so far for me:
I managed to get washing out and have now also washed all the pillows and sheets are soaking for the next load. Pillows are out drying in the sun.
Language lessons at 7am - ridiculous time!!! A good lesson - reading and writing today. I am beginning to read quicker and understand far more. A very good lesson today. smile
Coffee and cake with a friend
stopped at shop on the way home
Came home ready to sweep and mop the downstairs floor, but lodger had already done it! YAY!! Love him!!! So, I could have then gone and done the other 3 floors, but no, me being me, I sat down!!
Did some work on laptop - day off really, but it needed doing. hmm
Flippin' hot today. Hopefully we will have a storm to break it a bit later.

To do this afternoon:
Wash sheets,
make bed (only have 1 set per bed, so timing of drying is crucial to avoid wet beds at night) - should put before this pray for rain to stay off until sheets are dry!
Bake choccy cake
tea - not sure what yet, dig in freezer and see what appears.

Have a good day everyone.

Hi Trazzles big ((((hugs))))

elliepac Thu 02-May-13 07:11:39

I'm here. I'm shite at flying. honu twas me that said it works if you do it properly but am unable to follow my own advice grin

Big waves and welcome backs to pa and

Got to go to work. Boooooo.

DorisShutt Thu 02-May-13 07:45:25

Quick post to question something as I'm on my phone - I'll post properly later when I'm working.

How often do you people dust? I dusted on Tuesday as I had people over, but I'm sitting on the couch and I can see the dust on the coffee table - not thick dust you can write your name in, but more little bits of dust from people moving about IYSWIM. Dusting isn't on my list today, but I think it might have to be hmm

ToffeeWhirl Thu 02-May-13 08:28:03

Hmm, very rarely is my answer to that, Doris blush. I have a cleaner who comes once a fortnight and she dusts. Apart from that, I only dust if I can see dust.

Welcome back and ((hugs)), Trazzles. Very impressed that you are doing the shred. I looked into it and ran a mile decided against it.

PA - great to have you back too. Sounds like you are doing really well with the language. And that you have a great lodger too (maybe you could train him in the ways of Flylady wink).

Just - I'm so sorry things have been so difficult again, but I'm glad you realise you need to put yourself first right now. Any good friends will understand that.

Have too many people coming round today <sobs>. Think I might crawl into the cat box and hide. DS2 is off school with a cough and cold, so I also have both DC at home all day. Think a crisis clean might be in order.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Probably not a la fat fairy friend, but my mum always used to say, leave the dust til you can see it, then damp cloth it away - if you only "dust" you are just unsettling the dust, so it will re-settle as soon as it stops floating, IYSWIM.

DorisShutt Thu 02-May-13 08:50:57

Right, working early today as my boss' computer decided to take a terminal swan dive, so had to talk him through how to sort it out. Not fun at 8am before your first coffee!

Thanks for the comments on dusting - I do damp dust (except my piano which nothing wet ever goes near!), and it does work, but DS plays with his toys on the carpet, and then on the coffee table so it transfers up - I think I'll just have to wipe it a bit more often - and look forward to the day when he can play in his own room! grin

Today I'm planning to:
- washing (beds and towels hopefully)
- possible trip to the supermarket
- possible grass cutting (looking ropey by looking at the clouds)
- possible anything else grin

In short, I have no clue what I want to do and when I want to do it. I may just have a play day with DS.

Right, back to the real work now! Is it too early to hit the bar in the naughty corner?

ToffeeWhirl Thu 02-May-13 08:58:00

Like the tip about damp dusting, PA. That sounds logical.

Play day sounds good, doris, and I'm sure DS would prefer you to do that than dust smile.

DS2 is sulking because he wants to play hairdressers and I won't let him cut my hair.

I dust when I can see it TBH. Some places catch the sun and are done more frequently than others. Either damp dust (if I've got time to move stuff) or a quick whizz in and out of everything with one of those disposable Pledge dusters on a stick, which do pick it up pretty well (and don't leave swirls on the TV like a damp cloth does).

Work today, boo, it is a gorgeous day, just got back from school and need to peg out a couple of loads of washing. Tonight I need to tidy the landing which has got a lot of stuff on it following the big clear out of DCs room yesterday.

Jdub Thu 02-May-13 09:31:38

good morning!!
May already! THAT is bonkers!!!
The sunshine really highlights the dust everywhere! MUST rectify!
We've been dealing with a poorly DS so everything has gone to pot, but now, normality has been restored, and so I MUST try and restore some order out of the chaos!!
AT least it's a bank hol wknd coming up - yeehhaaa!x

Swanhilda Thu 02-May-13 09:37:19

so far
three dcs to school (and ds1 has forgotten his socks and his lunchcard, and dh gave him yesterday's smelly shirt sad to wear [grrr]
cat litter cleaned
some clothes moved from one floor to another
dd piano practice
rang dyspraxia OT to demand my report!!!!

okay, now
breakfast finally
put clothes away
iron remainder
hoover kitchen floor
morning routine - wash in, dw, worktops, dirty washing in pile, rubbish in bins, quick tidy of front room

then more catching up indoors - will concentrate on hall mess today, then bank phone call

GoingGoingGoth Thu 02-May-13 10:01:54

Morning all,

Well an overexcited DD going on a school trip to the Science Centre today, I am so pleased I didn't know my rota bottled helping out.

Dd to school via shop to get a bottle of water
Back home via greengrocers who didn't have baking potatoes! hmm

To do
Hang laundry out
Take cat out
Litter tray
Empty bins
5 min room rescue in DD's bedroom
Finish weekly bleugh
Collect Dd via somewhere that does has baking potatoes
Supervise homework/spelling practice
Wash up /SS
Skype friend

That's doable

Re dusting, I tend to have a half hearted flick round as part of weekly bleugh, I really hate dusting sad

superfluouscurves Thu 02-May-13 10:48:40

Hi everyone!

Wow - only been away one day (dd off school for public holiday yesterday and today) - and see that loads of familiar faces have returned to the fold!!

Tis brilliant to see you all PA Trazzles Just Honu Elliepac Craftsonsea!!!! flowers flowers flowers flowers flowers flowers

PA feel really badly for being out of touch - pls forgive me - will make up for it soon I promise!! Take care doing the family laundry - electrics sound a bit scary!

Trazzles great to 'see' you - you, Joe and the whole family have been much in our thoughts x

Just great you are back but ohhhhhh nooooooo!!!! I am so sorry the insurance deal fell through - that is just awful. Terribly sorry to hear about your family bereavement too. Sounds like a good plan to focus your energy and resources on you for a change!

Honu couldn't agree more about roller-skate analogy - I've only managed to Fly "properly" for about three weeks consecutively I think ... but doing it imperfectly is much better than alternative I reckon

Elliepac I can't follow my own advice either but haven't done anything else worthwhile such as nurturing the minds of the nation's youth either!! blush

Congratulations on your pregnancy Craftsonsea!

Thanks for links Castle I am very pleased that the habit for May is "moving"! Determined to get a bit fitter this month!

Swan really like the idea of doing one thing from the 'backlog' pile each day! Arf at 'picnic sundries' and being outfluffed!

Jdub ditto - the sunshine here is not only highlighting the dust, but the dirty terrace (looks like an old pond), the windows covered in masonry dust (desperately need cleaning) and the cobwebs in the corners of the ceilings!! blush

Whoknows well done re: your blitz on the dc room - sounds fab!

Hope you manage to get some time for yourself today Toffee

Doris a play day sounds good! smile

V. impressed by your blog Blue!

Silvery arf at hoovering the walls ...whatever works grin

Hope you survived the vom Nicknacks [hands over bottle of Dettol]

Bitchy think you have hit the nail on the head there when you say that you lacked motivation at the beginning but you discovered it as you went along! I'm going to try and remember that as the last thing I want to do every morning is housework but it's usually fairly OK once I start!

Arf at your dd in bed with strawberries and cream Goth

Thought it was an eminently sensible/pragmatic decision by Queen B to abdicate Engels

Waves to Ellesababe and anyone else I've missed!

Got to go. DD is trying to enact what it would be like to live inside a sausage roll confused and I am being called upon to roll her up inside a large camel-coloured fleece!! grin

superfluouscurves Thu 02-May-13 10:52:07

baking potatoes are a rare commodity over here too Goth

GoingGoingGoth Thu 02-May-13 10:59:00

SC I wouldn't comment, but we get some from there probably around once a fortnight! More often if I'm short of meal ideas. Think they're pushing the new potatoes this week.

Swanhilda Thu 02-May-13 11:27:00

morning routine (apart from bins)

Thanks for all the kind words re the blog. Interesting about your DH, Swan - just goes to disprove the old myth that anyone who speaks 2 languages can translate.

Theoretically, I dust once a week as part of the house bleugh but it's the 1st thing to go if I'm pushed for time. Do more detail when it comes up as a mission.

superfluouscurves Thu 02-May-13 12:43:02

lunch break

dd and I have tidied up her room

bed linen from master boudoir is being washed

I have done 2 x 15 mins decluttering in boudoir and done the morning routine/dw etc (late)

going to carry on this afternoon plus spend some time playing with dd. dh is still travelling so we can live on baked beans and spend more time doing fun stuff. Yay!

[Does anyone else feel they spend a large proportion of their time peeling veg btw? I seem to spend a humungous amount of time chopping onions, peeling garlic cloves, prepping carrots, celery, pots, skinning tomatoes, de-seeding peppers, washing mushrooms, prepping salads etc etc. Seems to take forever even just for 3 of us. Do tend to batch cook though]

going to re-start MFP today too (I am eating healthily in the main, but portions far too large)

Goth I'm with you - baked potatoes are one of my all-time favourite suppers and no-one seems to eat them over here. Can't find broad beans for love nor money either. Parsnips only started being imported 4 years or so ago ...Belgians eat loads of veg/salad in general but are very conservative with their selection.

ToffeeWhirl Thu 02-May-13 15:53:22

Phew, last visitor cancelled. It was all getting too much. And have been so busy with visits that DS1's home ed hasn't been done and now I have to drag him off the XBox.

Also managed to shut the kitten in the downstairs cupboard in the midst of all the hustle and bustle. Poor kitty sad.

At least the house is clean now, thanks to my wonderful cleaner smile.

*To do*:

Sort out pile of clean washing on our bed
Do as little ironing as possible
Put clothes away
Tidy DS2's bedroom again (did it yesterday angry) because it will turn into a guest room this weekend
wine wine wine

CHBitchy Thu 02-May-13 17:10:25

Today I have been chasing red tape. You will find me in the naughty corner drinking a vat of wine I might share. But depends.

SilveryMoon Thu 02-May-13 17:34:28

<swigs a mouthful of wine whilst bitchy has her back turned> It has been on eof those fucking days.
PA that is a good point re the dusting........Doris I do mine over the weekend. I can see dust on the tv stand now but I won't do anything about it until Saturday/Sunday. For me, I find it more important to stick to my systems and routines than have the place looking perfect. I know that sounds odd, but that's me. If I didn't have lists and set times to do these things, I'd do them everyday and that is exhausting. I have learnt not to let it bother me.

GoingGoingGoth Thu 02-May-13 18:54:11

Quick update, while I have 5 mins

Dd to school via shop to get a bottle of water
Back home via greengrocers
Hang laundry out
Take cat out
Litter tray
Empty bins
5 min room rescue in DD's bedroom
Vacuum round flat
Collect Dd, via veg stall for baking potatoes
Supervise homework/spelling practice

To do
Wash up /SS
Skype friend

Typical, got some potatoes and then decided that I really didn't want them blush, so DH made a curry-RESULT.

I think it was to make up for him melting my cake box! It's fairly large, and so that it doesn't take up most of the worksurfaces he suggested we store it on top of the grill. Normally when he does see it and move it before doing toast, not today. Guess that means a trip to Lakeland grin

I'm also going to have to get back on MFP, gave up when the parents came up and been a bit slack at getting back on it.

Ta da!
Laundry done and on line
Work finished and sent off
Various bits of admin and mini project off back burner
Sent off satisfyingly large invoice
Aldi shop & lunch out
Shopping away
To the park with DS2 in glorious sunshine smile
Tea cooked
Planted various seeds
Washing in

To do
Washing up and rescue kitchen
Dining room floor
Collapse in front of Masterchef final

[tops up wine for Bitchy, Toffee and Silvery]

[opens another bottle]

Craftsonsea Thu 02-May-13 20:01:41

Went to bed with a shiney sink grin
Washed and hung out clothes
Put away about 4 days worth of dry clothes
Put out rubbish that's been sat in the cupboard (umm...3 bags worth)
Toddler group
Bought maternity clothes that fit! Whoop! And with DS in tow!

To do
Last bit of washing up and shine sink for tomorrow

Trying not to do too much in the first few days as I don't want to burn out iykwim

[tops up more wine for everyone else]
[has rather dull glass of squash for self]

ToffeeWhirl Thu 02-May-13 20:19:22

Thanks, Blue.

<swigs wine>

Sorry about the squash, Craft. You deserve better after your productive day.

Curry and trip to Lakeland - good result, Goth smile.

Silvery - sorry it's been a bad day.

Have given up on tidying DS2's bedroom for today. Will concentrate on ironing and putting away clothes tonight <huge sigh>, then tackle his room tomorrow.

Castlelough Thu 02-May-13 21:10:41

Babystep 3 is an easy one - to explore the Flylady website and the Launch Pad.

The Daily Focus for Friday is to Declutter your Purse and Car.

We’re in Zone 1- The Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room until the end of the week. We are decluttering, or detailed cleaning, in this zone for 15 minutes a day.

Today’s mission is to grab your feather dusters or rags and tackle the light fixtures, ceilings and window sills in the Dining Room and the Entrance Way.

The Flight plan for our daily routines, should update automatically.

Castlelough Thu 02-May-13 21:12:57

Good evening everyone!
Hope you’ve all been enjoying the lovely weather today.
Swan, Goth, Crafts and Trazzles have produced quite sizeable lists – well done ladies!
Toffee has been busy with visitors, but has a lovely clean house smile.
PA also has a clean house, thanks to her lovely lodger!
Silvery and Bitchy had a tough day and have retired to the naughty corner with Toffee, Crafts and Blue. I suspect Elliepac is hiding out in there too!
JDub has noticed the dust showing up in the lovely weather. She can get plenty of tips from PA,*WhoKnows*,*Doris*, Silvery,Toffee*,*Goth and Blue who have been discussing dusting techniques – the fat fairy would be proud of you all grin

SC has been having fun with DD today! I know what you mean about spending ages prepping veg. I have a food processor on my kitchen wishlist – think it would make soup/casserole prep much quicker… by the way I am keeping an eye out for you on MFP and for you too Goth!

I am joining the crowd in the naughty corner. Had a terrible run-in with a nasty parent at school today, and still amn’t the better for it. sad
Waves to Engels, LPlate, Louise, Ellietrying, Ellesabe, Just and Honu and hopefully I haven’t missed anyone. xx

DorisShutt Thu 02-May-13 21:22:33

<sneaks in, pinches wine, downs it>

I don't want to talk about today. I just don't.

There may have been no flying. There may have been emergency mopping of a carton of pineapple juice during the day.

If anyone is looking for me, I'll be lying down having a fit of the vapours.

Castlelough Thu 02-May-13 21:24:05

Oh and waves at NickNacks too smile

ToffeeWhirl Thu 02-May-13 22:00:14

Psst, Doris, naughty corner is over here. And there is wine!

CHBitchy Thu 02-May-13 22:12:49

Right, now I am main lining coffee. Cos clearly this week I am not meant to sleep <sigh>

I have a whole shit load of paperwork that needs dealing with before tomo. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Swanhilda Thu 02-May-13 22:31:21

SC tonight I served a picnic portion of Tesco's moroccan couscous salad with the boiled potatoes and green beans and sausages. Amaaazing how easy it is to take something out of a plastic container and not do any prep at all and make Dh feel there was something interesting for supper unfortunately the children don't like couscous salad anyway I must try it more often wink One of my summer resolutions was that I was going to enjoy cooking more in the new kitchen - I'm almost nervous about putting it to the test, although I have a lovely view now whilst I chop!!! There was a Piers Paul Read book called A Married Man (all dark and brooding 70's stuff) in which the first breakdown of marriage was signified when his wife prepares herself a baked potato with baked beans, adding sour cream and chives as a garnish but not to his plate!!!

Castlelough so sorry about horrible parent. I think teachers just become figureheads to parents sometimes, and some parents take out their frustrations on the teachers unfairly.

I'm still feeling shellshocked by the tutor's comment yesterday about ds2, in which she asked why he had been allowed to get to Year 6 without anyone picking up that he couldn't understand phonics, and that it was nothing to do with his handwriting sad The problem is that he could always read, so I suppose it was missed that he couldn't decode.

today I upcycled dd's chest of drawers to my room
rationalized her drawers
completely tidied and gutted her room (quantities of sweet papers)
hoovered her bedroom and ds2 bedroom
finally read the dyspraxia report on ds1 from OT
ds2 had two friends round which was a bit stressful as he paid not much attention to them
two more bags of rubbish out
litter tray
found a home for a kitten whose home had fallen through, for three weeks' time smile lovely lady who is mother of ds2 school friend. Her last cat apparently died at the age of 22!
ds1 played in a Badminton match YAY at school
ds1 homework

to call bank
go on errands
finish the tidying/sorting

Swanhilda Thu 02-May-13 22:35:55

Castle my relatively new food processor is also wonderbar, especially for things like gratin dauphinoise, carrots, grating, pastry, biscuits, or lots of onions. Not good for soup though, the water always comes out the bottom! I have gone off it since the builders though, I find it too noisy and it reminds me of the sound of drilling. Maybe the p & q will get boring after a bit and I will try again.

For some bizarre reason the Ipad won't let me load this thread again, even though it is short. So, I'm on my phone having retreated upstairs early because DH started torturing me by making toasted sandwiches on my fasting day.

SC - I do far less chopping than I used to thanks to Waitrose and their brilliant range of frozen chopped onions, herbs, garlic, ginger etc, not sure if such things are available in your neck of the woods though?

Not much Flying, work day, never mind. Night all.

Swanhilda Fri 03-May-13 08:29:47

Good morning.

This morning new kitchen looks distinctly scuzzy because I didn't clean it last night! A lesson that even a new kitchen needs maintenance blush

Yesterday I got slightly carried away tackling upstairs; today I will finish that and try and get other more routine stuff done too.

dd's ikea delivery (her pocketmoney has purchased a rug, a lampshade and a laundry basket grin she spent hours looking through catalogue) has arrived
ds1 off to school
two still to despatch
cats fed, and litter tray cleared
food compost

new drawers upstairs
kitchen bins - need some!

Managed yesterday's list but there's no list today. I'm not flying. I can't be bothered. Just fancy hiding in bed all day. It's a minor miracle that Joe and I were up in time for the community nurse at 8am(!). And I'm shortly off to hospital for a scan of my gallbladder.

I know it's not the right attitude but flying can wait for another day. I'm tired.

DorisShutt Fri 03-May-13 09:53:31

Morning all.

{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}} to Trazzle, I've just caught up on your other thread. So, so sorry and I'm keeping you in my prayers.

Well, I'm all excited that my shiney new blog (as inspired by Blue!) has a follower. Given I only started it yesterday, I'm impressed. I do have a horrible feeling that she is one of these folks who follow you to attract people to her porn site, but what the heck; it's not like you can block them

Flying wise, yesterday was a bust. Today, I'm out to a friend for a play date (if work ever get their fingers out so I can do my job) and then supermarket in the afternoon. Hopefully some of washing mountain will be scaled and conquered grin

Pouring with rain here so not the most thrilling of days, but that's life.

Hope you all have a good one.

GoingGoingGoth Fri 03-May-13 10:02:25

Trazzle you have much more important priorities right now. (Hug) I don't think anyone here thinks cleaning comes first.

Finally got my work rota, so I can plan my summer.

And restarted MFP, no idea how to 'look' for people on it apart from through Facebook. SC Castle I'm just GoingGoth on it, if you promise not to point & laugh.

Not much of a list today as <whispers> I'm at work right now. But no customers, so managers not bothered about me being online. Will probably try to clear some more moss away, if it stops raining.

GoingGoingGoth Fri 03-May-13 10:04:31

Come on Doris give us the link to your blog <nosey>

CHBitchy Fri 03-May-13 10:19:03

Looks like we are heading down the statementing route. <daunted><overwhelmed>--can I just hide in the naughty corner-- Soo much paperwork being created atm. I fucking hate paperwork and forms!!!

Flying can rot in hell today. going to hide somewhere else other then home. And try not to cry think.

DorisShutt Fri 03-May-13 10:20:00

My blog (with apologies to any pedants for the grammar, spelling and general layout grin )

Swanhilda Fri 03-May-13 10:30:31

Doris I like the idea of looking in the mirror and liking what one sees as the first step! (hope I got that right...)

chest of drawers upstairs (two 50 year olds in their pjs lugging furniture blush not a pretty sight...

Friend is coming to stay for the weekend and will be here in one hour. Just popped in to check DS2's bedroom was still tidy for her (as she sleeps in there and he moves up to share with DS1) and he has turned it into a shop <sobs>. And I've had to pay him in real money to buy stuff I don't want. He has made his own version of 'Bumfresh wipes' and thinks he will become a billionnaire from it (that will only be explicable to those of you who have read 'Billionnaire Boy' by David Walliams).

Ta da :

Home education with DS1
Sweep and mop kitchen floor
Tidy and wipe kitchen surfaces
Clean cooker top
Wipe kitchen cupboards
Put out new cat litter
Empty bin
Clean bottom of bin with bleach
Put recycling out
Swish and swipe in bathroom
Help DS2 deal with nose bleed
Congratulate DS2 on mopping up the blood himself smile
Unblock loo from all the loo paper he'd flushed down it hmm
Mop bathroom floor
Change sheets on two beds
Put washing on

To do :

Get DS1 to do some independent work
Make bed in guest room
Tidy guest room again <grits teeth>
Wash my hair
Sort out clothes for social events this weekend
Sort out boys' clothes for same
Cuddle cat, greet friend and relax with wine

Castlelough Fri 03-May-13 16:54:02

Hi ladies!
I won't be around to do a round-up til much later on, so I thought I would post the links for tomorrow early for those who like to get them nice and early!
Off to do a 4-mile charity road-run and hoping that the crowd will make the distance easier....hmm

Toffee arf at ds and the bumfresh wipes!!!

Babystep 4 is to leave yourself some sticky notes as reminders to do Babystep 1-3! Personally, I don’t bother with this one!

The Daily Focus for Saturday is to have a Family Fun Day.

We’re in Zone 1- The Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room until the end of the week. We are decluttering, or detailed cleaning, in this zone for 15 minutes a day.

As it is the weekend (and a lovely long one at that grin!) there is no mission!

The Flight plan for our daily routines, should update automatically.

Finally, the habit for the month of May is to get Moving!

DorisShutt Fri 03-May-13 19:17:31

Evening all <bends knees, twiddles imaginary policeman's moustache>

Well, washing mountain failed slightly, but did manage play date and supermarket, so chalking today up as a win. Diet is still going well; I've managed to eat required amounts... but I weighed myself and I'm 12stone 10lbs. So not impressed with myself and very down about it.

But I'm not going to be disheartened. I'm going to still have a glass of wine tonight (it's counted in my MFP thing so it's allowed!) and keep going with the 5:2 diet. And I'm not going to weigh myself daily - weekly will be sufficient I think - probably every Thursday morning first thing.

But still... nearly 13 stone sad

Engelsemama Fri 03-May-13 19:33:38

I'm finding Flying with a toddler a bit of a nightmare. I think I got more done in the hour after dinner with DH entertaining DS than I did during the whole day blush

Our Bedroom: hoovered, dusted, everything out that didn't live there, changed bed
Moved seedlings outside
Hoovered rest of upstairs
Tidied up DS's room
Cleaned bathroom (except shower) while DS was having a bath and pampered my feet (multitasking!)
Pottered around in the garden
Spent an hour in the hammock with my kindle and a beer

Hotspots are still abysmal but am pleased that upstairs is reasonable at last.

Am rubbish at keeping up with thread at the moment blush

superfluouscurves Fri 03-May-13 20:06:34

Trazzles hope your appt goes ok, take care of yourself x

You too Bitchy

Thanks for all the veg prep insights!! Thinking of investing in some sort of processor but very little counter space. (Like the sound of your new kitchen with lovely view Swan) Whoknows we have the upmarket French frozen food chain 'Picard' here which has some of the things you mention - but I always feel guilty (for some unknown reason as no nutritional difference as I understand it) not using fresh - will definitely give them a go.

Arf at Doris's imaginary policeman's moustache (looking forward to reading yr blog 'pon rtn) and Toffee's ds's bumfresh wipes grin

Sorry - rushing - just popping in to say we are off to share a cottage in the country with friends this w/e now that dh has finally stopped making business calls and I have dried towels in the barbecue smoke laden air courtesy of our neighbours

Mounds of food to take with us -look away Goth and others - I may delay re-start on MFP until I get back blush

Have a good weekend lovely fledglings one and all .... tally-hoooooooooooooooooo!!

Swanhilda Fri 03-May-13 20:44:20

SC ooh cottage with friends sounds a dream, especially with smoked towels
Toffee I used to love selling things to relatives wink we often had Sales of Work. I quite like turning dd's room back into a guest room (hers is the room that gets "magicked") as it encourages me to clear it out, and guests always admire her curtains which have chinoiserie parrots on them!
Ds1 still enjoys reading Billionaire Boy too.

nothing to show for today but
a bit of room clearing upstairs (filled new chest of drawers)
booked dcs on sailing course/sculling course in late July; just have to learn to drive long distance before then hmm as it is 23 mins by car and 1hr 32 mins by public transport [sob] A powerful incentive. As they seem to all be challenged in the motor skills dept I'm hoping sailing will increase confidence and self esteem. There are also adult sailing courses, do I dare? grin

took dts to tennis lesson

Engelsemama Fri 03-May-13 20:57:38

I always feel wrong if I buy ready chopped veg sc. But then I think back 10 years (okay, 12 years) and laughing at my housemate who was buying ready grated cheese. In my head I was sneering, "How hard is it just to grate your own cheese?!".

I have 2 bags of grated cheese in my fridge right now blush

Toffee DS2 sounds very 'enterprising' grin

Jamillalliamilli Fri 03-May-13 21:20:30

I could have sworn blind I posted yesterday!

Most of today’s been lost to fathoming the intricacies of hmrc’s decisions on ds working whilst studying, and trying to do court of protection accounts for dd who can do neither, but we did manage to do lessons outside in glorious sunshine under a magnolia tree.

Still to do
Eat dinner
Call friend
google art resources
Bed at reasonable time

(((( Trazzles )))) hope the appointment goes ok.

Castle for every rotten parent there’s another one who’ll still be singing your praises ten years on.

Bitchy statementing is a pain, but if you can make it work, it can be life changing. I didn’t think I cope with all the paperwork but a few court cases later we have three full size filing cabinets and two huge Really Useful file boxes. Though I can’t wait for the day I can shred the lot.

Swan at least someone’s now spotted a why that’s workable with.
We also got to the end of yr 6 with everyone (but me) insisting there was no problem with d/s failure to write. His reading was way ahead. Re sailing d/s seems to spend a lot of time in the water but what he lacks in sailing skills he has made up for in strong swimming! Go for it!

newbiebaby Fri 03-May-13 22:04:34

Hello everyone
Id really like to join this thread, I am in need of a routine but find the fly lady site a bit overwhelming can someone please tell me where to start? ?
Thank you

Castlelough Fri 03-May-13 22:18:54

Welcome Newbiebaby grin. You're very welcome to the thread! As a Flylady beginner I would recommend that you start with the babysteps. These help you to build up your daily routine, bit by bit, until it becomes easier to keep the place reasonably tidy and presentable.

You could begin a little bit of decluttering too in the current zone (click link above somewhere wink - just 15 minutes at a time. Nothing too overwhelming. DO NOT PULL OUT MORE THAN YOU CAN SORT OUT WITHIN THE 15 MINS! Very important!

If your home is really getting you down you could do a quick crisis clean (15 mins per room in three different rooms, then 15 mins break. Then begin again until you are happy with it...)
Or you could try a Weekly Home Blessing Bleugh which is basically spending 7x10 mins doing a quick run through your home (10 mins dust, 10 mins sweep/vacuum, 10 mins mop, 10 mins shining glass/mirrors, 10 mins on bins/rubbish, and 10 mins purging newspapers/magazines). Some things take a bit longer than 10 mins, and some a bit less.

But if I were you, I would just start with Babystep 1 and check in with us each day til your routines are established smile.

Castlelough Fri 03-May-13 22:21:10

And Newbiebaby your timer is your new best friend - it stops you obsessing and time wasting. Set the timer on your phone and go!

newbiebaby Fri 03-May-13 22:29:52

Thanks so much for such a quick response looking forward to getting started. ...the shiny sink thing confuses me though, I'm all for hygiene but do you all really shine it everyday? ?

Castlelough Fri 03-May-13 22:49:59

Quick round-up!

Just it sounds heavenly to be outside under the magnolia tree! We had terrible rain today so I am very envy of your good weather!

Swan Good luck with the driving practise. smile Sailing sounds like a fab way to spend some time this summer – go for it!

SC enjoy your weekend trip to the country cottage – sounds fab! And please forget about flying and MFP until you return! Life is for living!

Engels it sounds like your garden is shaping up nicely! Love the hammock –great idea!

Doris and WhoKnows you are slowly igniting my interest in this 5:2 diet…keep us posted on your progress! Doris I clicked on your blog link – good for you! I don’t know how to ‘follow’ a blog…or I would!

WhoKnows I am having a problem with my iPhone app for Mumsnet too, it is stuck loading the April thread for the last week, and I can’t get it to do anything else… 

Toffee enjoy your weekend visitor!

Blue hope the retail therapy went well! --You are not allowed to do the WHB on a Saturday anyway. It’s the law. wink

Bitchy ((hugs)) I’m sorry you are feeling so overwhelmed. It sounds like you are on a constant treadmill of paperwork. Please mind yourself. <leaves out wine and [coffee] in the naughty corner>

Goth I added you on MFP grin!

Trazzles ((hugs)) for you too. I hope your scan went well for you. Don’t be so hard on yourself regarding the flying - I had an epic fail today and yesterday and I have nothing major on my plate to cope with. We just love it when you stop by xxx

Thanks for all the kind comments about the nasty parent. The principal/headmaster actually called her in today and gave her a talking to, so I’m feeling better about it.

Managed to make it through the 4-mile run shock and pig out afterwards of course. Just heading out to meet DH for a glass of wine --I know it’s late, but this is rural Ireland and DH is the publican grin!—

Waves to everyone else xx

Castlelough Fri 03-May-13 23:03:15

Blue I meant to add that I am going to check out your blog tomorrow, apologies for not mentioning it in the round-up x

GoingGoingGoth Fri 03-May-13 23:03:17

Castle I've found you! grin you look very glamorous! I've eaten far to much today, but will start again PROPERLY tomorrow. grin

Doris your blog looks good, now I read yours, Blue's (as of yesterday) and a couple of others. I've bookmarked you both, in a brand new sparkling Blogs Folder. That's meant to sound positive by the way. grin

Am starting my 4 days off tomorrow grin so am planning an hour of Flying each morning before Family Fun Day etc. not sure how that will work out.

GoingGoingGoth Fri 03-May-13 23:10:37

Newbiebaby you do the full shine sink the 1st night, and then get into the habit of wiping it down after every use to keep it clean.

Personally I see it as a reminder to have clear sink with all dishes washed, dried & away, I then use my tea towel to wipe down the sink & drainer before popping it into the wash. Makes sure we have a clean tea towel everyday too.

Epic fail here yesterday. A good morning at work, but this went rapidly downhill in the afternoon with me being blamed for everything that went wrong for DH and DD4, so I ended up going for a walk on my own to get away from the ungrateful lot of them for it to only to start raining and thundering and me returning home drenched and like a dog with its tail between its legs.
Nothing constructive done in the house all day apart from cooking tea. blush

Up at stupid o'clock for skype with DD1 and yet again she is not there, so I am just heading back to bed for a bit.

Swan not so good now, eh?

SC and whoknows have good weekends away.

Doris I will have a peep at your blog in a minute if I can find your link....

Sturday morning is now going to have to be my morning of getting my act together and doing some flying until I get another cleaner.

So to do:
Cleaner shower rooms
sweep floors upstairs
damp dust where needed

this afternoon we need to go to the large market to pick up some new clothes for DS and DD4 which is always a bit traumatic!

Back to bed for me now..... see you all later.

Trazzletoes Sat 04-May-13 05:59:13

Thanks for the hugs, I needed them smile

Hugs to you too Bitchy

We have a great family fun day planned but I am currently awake because Joe has just pulled his feeding (and medicine, more importantly) tube out of his nose. So hospital it is this morning instead <sigh> with any luck we won't be there too long.

Trazzletoes Sat 04-May-13 06:00:18

Scan went fine, by the way. Scanner lady couldn't see anything wrong with my liver, kidneys or gall bladder so no idea what is causing random discomfort but it doesn't appear to be gallstones so that's good!

Hope hospital went OK and that you managed to get your family fun, Trazzles. Glad your scan went well too.

Hope today is/was better, PA.

Waves to newbiebaby.

Today has been ridiculously stressful. I hate Saturdays. I always have a huge list of things I want to get done. I also feel like we ought to be having family fun. DH always wants to watch sport all afternoon. The boys want people to play board games with them all the time. We all end up with the telly and 3 conversations going at once and everything louder and louder in an attempt to be heard...

Hat a bit of a strop about it and then things improved slightly.

Ta da!
Shopping with boys and DH - inc. shoe shop and supermarket...
Bit of work
Park with boys
pizza and beer for tea smile

Castlelough Sat 04-May-13 18:43:59

Well it has been very quiet here today! As it should be on a Saturday! The weather is lovely here, and I have driven to my parents’ house for the weekend smile. Hope you are all well – enjoy the weekend!

Goth thanks for the compliment! I can assure you I do not look glamorous most of the time!

PA I hope you managed your skype with DD1 and that the shopping trip went well!

Trazzles I hope your hospital trip didn’t take too long. bear for Joe. Hope you got to enjoy the family day you had planned! Xx

Waves for everyone else grin!

Babystep 5 is to turn your negative self-talk into something positive – yes, you do deserve to live in a nice home! smile

The Daily Focus for Sunday is to look after yourself and Renew your Spirit, in whatever way works best for you!

We’re still in Zone 1- The Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Roomfor the final day this month. We are decluttering, or detailed cleaning, in this zone for 15 minutes a day.

As it is the weekend (and a lovely long one at that grin!) there is no mission!

The Flight plan for our daily routines, should update automatically.

Finally, the habit for the month of May is to get Moving!

Castlelough Sat 04-May-13 18:46:08

((hugs)) for Blue - enjoy the beer and pizza! Sounds lovely!
I know how you feel about the list of things you want to get done - but I think sometimes we put too much on our lists!

DorisShutt Sat 04-May-13 18:51:29

<waves to everyone>

Well, I cut the grass today. I now feel absolutely knackered and my arms ache - first cut of the year so it was nasty.

And that's about everything I have accomplished.

Nice healthy fish salad for tea (no effort required and it will go nicely with some wine) and then a cornetto for pudding grin

Park tomorrow if it's nice!

Engelsemama Sat 04-May-13 19:18:14

Glad scan went well trazzles

Ta da
Spent the whole day in the garden (proved by my very dirty knees!) pottering around, laying with DS and listenign to DNs scampering around this afternoon
4 loads of washing
Cleaned coffee table
Hoovered downstairs
Washing up
Finished off day in garden with an ice cold beer (read for 2nd ice cold beer shortly!)

It has been a good day smile

Craftsonsea Sat 04-May-13 19:46:46

Engels I know what you mean about struggling to keep the place clean with a toddler in tow, I do a bit here and there but.... Hmm, it's why I'm back here again tbh.
Doris have just had a look at you blog, it's a great idea smile I started mine to get me to get off my backside (although in a different kind of way iykwim)
Have been a bit rubbish at flying today although clothes are cleaned, sink looks reasonable and have taken a bag of stuff to the charity shop so will start tomorrow's baby step now by only telling myself positive things!!

Craftsonsea Sat 04-May-13 20:13:51

doris suddenly worried in case what I wrote above sounds harsh? I meant to say that blogging is a good way to motivate you to achieve the things you want. Ugh, been up since 5.20 with DS (who was also up in the night) and am struggling today to say or think anything that makes sense..

Swanhilda Sat 04-May-13 20:16:56

Nothing to report, except

a beautiful day

did as usual on Sat, catechism, music school

but Flying wise, did hoover our bedroom
move some pots in the garden

DH cooked some Thai food with dd [pat on back to him] - of course no-one ate it except the grownups grin Delicious!
neighbours with three little boys invited ds2 over (three years older than the eldest of them shock to play football so that was a nice surprise

and I felt powerful shades of Blue's thoughts on Saturdays. I so sympathise, I used to think I was the only family in the world who couldn't seem to combine useful jobs at weekend with family time and nice little outings, and just ended up with everyone mooching around or being forced to go to local playground yet again. My little boys just didn't seem to do "projects" or "play around" us as we worked. Very stressful. A bit better now, but still at weekends my hackles do tend to rise that reality does not live up to ideal.

Dd has done brilliantly decorated her room though, posters, yellow duvet, new lampshade, moved everything round..

Gingerodgers Sat 04-May-13 20:24:25

Ooo, I am loving this? How come I only just found it?

DorisShutt Sat 04-May-13 20:43:51

crafts makes perfect sense smile and that's exactly why I'm doing it - to make me do things; diet or exercise, and/or other things I make me feel better about myself.

Will have a look at your blog if you gimme the address?

newbiebaby Sat 04-May-13 22:12:29

First day down must admit I embraced the family day more than flying but hey ho the sun was out! Had a lovely day with preschooler dd and baby ds and husband but also managed to declutter three hot spots and am having an early night - so far so not so badsmile

GoingGoingGoth Sat 04-May-13 22:20:19

Hope all you lovely ladies have had a good day.

Busy Family Fun Day here, did my Flying, then we went to the library, Farmers Market and the Southland Festival, a community event just at the other side of the park. Dd did some screen printing & took part in a story-telling/art workshop. She was quite grumpy when we said it was time to go home, but it was bloody cold!

Windows-must have been colder last night, 1st time we've had condensation for ages.
Washing up
Laundry washed & hung out

Hello to Newbiebaby and Gingerodgers
Trazzles good to hear the scan went ok, and hope you got a good day.
PA hope today was better.

Sends remote drone into naughty corner searching for wine. Today's been spent stuck flat on my back, so have fingers crossed for tomorrow.
I’ve been reading up what d/s wants to add to home ed in Sept; decision maths, and systems and control technology.
I’m seriously wondering if I have any hope of understanding them and have been left with a massive headache

newbiebaby Sun 05-May-13 07:17:59

Am getting into this now (first flush of excitement/enthusiasm emoticon;) )
Already swished and swiped this morning!!!

Trazzletoes Sun 05-May-13 07:50:12

Thanks all. We were out of hospital by lunchtime and headed off to a safari park to see lions and tigers grin

There is still washing up everywhere but I don't care smile though DH is planning on a cooking extravaganza today so I probably ought to get ahead of the washing up before he starts...

DorisShutt Sun 05-May-13 08:14:28

Off to the park today, although DH let me have a lovely long lie (marred only by really weird dreams hmm ) and then a family supermarket trip.

Cleaning my sink... well, it's clean but cluttered as there is a heap of "things that take ages to dry and soak dish towels if you try" air drying there from last night. Everything else is still okay though! Mostly wink

SilveryMoon Sun 05-May-13 10:56:47

I'm here. I'm hungover. Not sure how much I'll get done today. Good job there's an extra day this weekend to tackle it all!
CBA to post a list, or get off the sofa.
<heads to the naughty corner to sleep>

Oh silvery. grin

Yesterday I did 3 loads of washing, went out and came back to all 3 loads strewn around the outside of the house on the ground covered in mud and filthy after being blown off the drying rail during a massive storm. SO, guess what I have done today??? Yep, 5 loads of washing (cos it was wet and so filthy I had to split it all up) and I have got no further than where I was yesterday afternoon! Grrrrr.
Just put the last lot out to dry today when another storm arrived. That one has now passed - hum-dinger of a storm! But another is a-brewing! Not going to get any further today.
Despite that I have a sparkling kitchen and clean bathrooms. I am also getting very eager to get a new cleaner cos cleaning in this heat kills me!! wink

Have a good Bank holiday all you English bods. smile

CHBitchy Sun 05-May-13 12:22:54

Castlelough Sun 05-May-13 18:59:20

Welcome to our new fledglings MayBeFlying , Gingerodgers and newbiebaby!

It has been a lazy Bank Holiday Sunday here and I'm afraid I have been lounging in the naughty corner with Silvery and Bitchy today but I amn't actually at home so I have a good excuse grin

Poor PA has been struggling with Mt. Washmore. Hopefully Mother Nature will give you a break soon!

Doris has been enjoying a trip to the park and Trazzles is hopefully putting her feet up and being wined and dined by MrTrazzles.

Just I think you are amazing to even attempt home-eding at such a high level. I take my hat off to you! Hope you can get some support with it. xx

Well that was a quick round-up for today. Am off out shock to meet up with some friends I haven't seen in ages. Haven't been out at 'home' in years so I am looking forward to it. It's a pity DH couldn't have come. Am contemplating wearing my new fab dress.....feels like a lot of effort....hmmm

Babystep 6 is to learn about ‘Hot Spots’ and spend a few minutes putting out your hot spots!

The Daily Focus for Monday is to do the Weekly Home Bleurgh—Blessing, which is a 60 minute minimal scurry around your home to dust, sweep, mop, tidy, polish, purge, and sort out the bins --and most weeks I still can’t even manage this much in one go blush

The coming week sees us moving into Kitchen. We are decluttering, or detailed cleaning, in this zone for 15 minutes a day.

Today’s mission is to scrub down your kitchen worktops.

The Flight Plan for our daily routines, should update automatically.

Finally, the habit for the month of May is to get Moving!

superfluouscurves Sun 05-May-13 20:12:25

Bloody hell. Someone please give me a drink!

Just got back. Fabulous w/e but horrible traffic on the way home and dd has just had a total meltdown (over-tired). Dh in bad mood.

I am scunnered grin

NickNacks Sun 05-May-13 21:28:50

Will join you on that drink sc Glad your home eventually smile

My weekend has been weird. Really relaxed but busy...does that make sense? Ds's went away with their grandad, (not amused that they've both come back sunburnt!) and dd went to my parents for 1 night. It was just to give me some time to myself (DH was working) but she sobbed when she left (loves it at my parents usually) and it made me come back inside and cry. Turns out she was tired and slept in the car over to theirs but it made me feel incredibly guilty.

Today they've all been returned to me in various states of hunger, filth and tiredness so they've all been bathed, fed and put to bed! DH is working again and I'm chilling with a brew

MT washmore has taken over so must be tackled tomorrow smile

superfluouscurves Mon 06-May-13 08:57:52

Good morning my lovelies!! Hope you all enjoyed the sunshine over the weekend!

Despite stressful return last night, we definitely all benefited from fresh air and green fields this w/e, highlights of which included (esp for dd and friends) catching a frog, playing 'farm golf' (wooden clog nailed to branch, small football, points deducted for hitting cows) splashing about and building a dam in the river.

Back to urban reality last night when some twonk decided to park his motorcycle outside our front door on pavement, some time after which its alarm started to sound LOUDLY every 3 mins or so for 1 hr 20 mins (owner had gone to theatre performance). Cue me poised on door-step in dressing gown and slippers, arms folded and bosom hoisted a la Les Dawson, ready with a few words of choice French upon his return at just before midnight angry. Then woken at 5.45 am this morning by arrival of three enormously long vehicles loaded with planks for the building site two doors down (which was actually a blessing in disguise as dd needed to get up early to do homework) but arrrggghhhh - really tired of urban living!

Tempted to head off to peace and quiet next weekend too (yet another school holiday here Thurs and Fri for Ascension). Speaking of which, had better make the most of the 2 and a half days that dd is at school this wk:

Ta da:
hwk supervision blush
ironing of uniform blush
polishing of dd school shoes blush
morning routine inc wm, rabbits (but haven't yet done s&s or dw)
climbed wobbly ladder in garden to cull lilac for dd to take to school for statue of Vierge Marie (there's a flower rota for May)
emptied/put away dry/non-fridge food stuffs from w/e
put first load of washing out to dry
put second load of washing on

To do:
empty suitcase
find wet swimsuit blush
take picnic rugs and take other weekend stuff out of hall and put away
tidy bathroom and s&s
call two friends
call sister
tidy kitchen
tidy sitting room
bank transfer
admire clear dining room table non-hot-spot!! [smug emoticon]
pair 30 pairs + of dh's socks sad (which are all dark grey, navy or black so look exactly the same but each have minute variation - arrggghh)
hunt for dd's lost wero file (= geography)
hunt for dd's lost school report form last term
hunt for lost fountain pen (mine)
put away ironed clothes in boudoir
tidy dd's chest of drawers
wash dh and my bed linen
supper tonight?
poss quick supermarket shop
as much tidying/decluttering in boudoir as poss
prep cold white wash
do mixed coloureds wash
WATCH BADMINTON HORSE TRIALS ON BBC2 in peace before dd gets home! then probably watch it again with her wink grin
hwk supervision
evening routine
meal planning
on-line supermarket order
early bed

That'll do for now but there is LOADS more ...

A very warm welcome to MayBeFlying , Gingerodgers and newbiebaby!

Nicknacks child-free time definitely necessary from time to time so don't be too hard on yourself - good luck with Mt Rushmore

Thanks for links Castle - Glad we are in kitchen zone this week - it needs a thorough scrub! Hope you had a fab night out catching up with old friends.

Hope you were wined and dined in style Trazzles Glad your scan was clear. I think extreme stress of the kind you have been experiencing can have a massively negative impact on your digestive system. Be kind to yourself x

At work today, and skiving a bit to post this blush Fast day today (technically my second, but my first for blogging purposes!) so am hoping to be quite busy and not feel the urge to eat.

Managed to empty the dishwasher and swish and swipe before leaving for work this morning (no thanks to a sloth-like DH) so I'm quite chuffed.

Suspect I won't post again until later unless I'm starving and need distraction, so I hope you all have a lovely bank holiday. Have a brew on me smile

Castlelough Mon 06-May-13 14:52:05

Silvery and SC lists like those are not allowed on bank holiday Monday!!!
You will scare the new fledglings away

Good luck with your fast Doris <shudders>

Enjoyed catch-up with friends (I wore the dress grin) and going to visit another friend and her new baby this evening.
No flying on the cards for me! But I'll be back to post up the links later on!

superfluouscurves Mon 06-May-13 16:03:31

Don't worry Castle - you can always rely on me to under-perform - have hardly done any of it grin !!!!

Friend popped around for spontaneous visit this morning, great to see her, put world to rights.

Five mins after she had left, dh came home for a break and I somehow found myself eating a much more substantial lunch than planned blush

Then phoned my sister (it was her birthday yesterday and I only managed quick call from countryside so had longer natter today)

Then I, er, watched Badminton ...

blush blush blush

And it was a 'back to work' day here because we already had our public holiday last Wed!!

blush again

In between have managed to load and unload dishwasher, put on two loads of washing and er, not much else!!

It was good though smile!!

CHBitchy Mon 06-May-13 16:20:36

Good afternoon.

Well For a change I can't be blamed for the huge list. Had a family fun day here. Took ds out for a much longer then intended walk. He loved it and was a nightmare to persuade to come home. Unfortunately as it was not planned as a long walk I am only just now eating lunch and have some very interesting burn marks scorched into my shoulders sad Wanted an hour out first thing (around 10am) to avoid the sun.

Reminder: check your sunscreen it does go out of date and will stop working

other then that ta da is:
1 load of washing

soon to be 2 when I have finished lunch and found the bits of uniform for ds that will be needed tomo. Although I think as it is so nice I will force him to wear short so I don't have to bother moving. Currently curled up on my bed whilst ds does something creative with lego in the lounge.

No intentions of doing anything else at all today.

GoingGoingGoth Mon 06-May-13 18:00:57

Hello, quick check in, had a 2nd Family Fun Day here, probably a result of yesterday's CBA.

Went to the cinema's kids club, along with half of Glasgow, so couldn't get in there, so instead of seeing Sammy's Great Escape we watched The Croods, which I found funny just because Nick Cage voiced the dad.

Then a trip to the city to get this month's birthday cards and presents (I'm not missing DH's this year) plus a quick trip to the fabric shop as I'm redoing DD's bed canopy plus some discounted wool

Think I was suffering from caffiene withdrawal, but DH has been supplying me with cups of brew since getting home and I feel quite lively now!

To do
Washing up & SS
Cleaning sides

Big waves to everyone, as I will read thread properly later.

SilveryMoon Mon 06-May-13 19:08:57

Mine is strictly anonymous and all about me - more as an incentive to get off my arse. It probably will mention FlyLady, but not Mumsnet - this place is mine, all mine I tell ya... <cackles>

CHBitchy Mon 06-May-13 21:08:59

Actually I am fuming about the blogging with the direct link to the thread and tbh am going to say something. Personally I think it is completely out of line to walk onto a thread and within a few days be posting a complete link to the thread on a blog. It clearly shows you have no understanding for the actual ethos of this thread Crafts there are many support threads for fly lady and you could have suggested people google for a support group rather then directing directly here!!!!

The reason why this thread has lasted so well is because it has been more then just about housework. The thread has built up a very close support network for people going through some very rough times. YOU might have come to understand that if you had taken the time to fully get to know the thread. We are incredibly welcoming BUT clearly this because of the closeness of the group. There support here is amazing but it is not something that we will be able to continue in the same manner as previously done.

Yes I know this is the internet and we are having an open conversation but that is different from someone coming across the conversation rather being directly directed to it on mass.

<closes the naughty corner bar>

NickNacks Mon 06-May-13 21:11:02

I agree sorry guys I need to take a step back. sad

SilveryMoon Mon 06-May-13 21:29:28

Erm. Not entirely sure how I feel about it tbh. The thing is, I (as others) post here, on this thread, and although I am aware that it is public, that anyone and everyone who chooses to can look and find it and read my posts etc, it's what I have chosen.
I was about to say that I didn't agree to have information I have posted to be put on a blog for God knows who to see, but then MNHQ wouldn't ask permission from me personally to use a quote from a post of mine in one of their books or articles and there are twitter and fb tabs at the top of threads to share (and I have shared some bloody funny threads on my fb page).
I do think it would have been considerate for crafts to have tested the waters and seen how we all felt about putting a direct link to this thread on her blog but we are posting in the public domain......
I'm sure that it didn't even cross her mind that people would have an issue with it, am sure she just wants to share something that she has found helpful with others.
I love this thread, talking shit to everyone here and I would hate for it to change.
I know I have probably failed miserably at trying to be diplomatic there.......

I've been lurking more than posting recently but I have to admit I'm a bit uncomfortable with the thread being linked as well.

The thing that keeps me here is the friendships I've built up on the thread over the past 3ish years and I know I've talked about a lot of RL stuff that would definitely out me if anyone cba to piece it together.

Although we're posting publicly on the thread we're not publicised and give the relatively limited appeal of housework as a conversational topic wink I've always felt that the risk of someone I know stumbling across it is low enough to be worth taking. That does change if it is linked on a blog, which by its nature is actively seeking readers.

Jamillalliamilli Mon 06-May-13 22:41:30

Pushme has summed up my feelings perfectly. None of it’s deeply secret but I’d rather not actively publicise or encourage random viewing.

I assume it’s possible for Crafts to remove the blog post once she realises. Perhaps the request not to link this thread should be put in the intro.

Oh dear, I can see both sides of this argument. I'm personally very open about my identity online but I know others are more concerned to be anonymous. I suspect it won't be as disastrous as all that - the thread survived the monster intake last January, after all - and hope that Bitchy will come back and also that crafts won't be scared off.

We've had a very nice Bank Holiday today - the community choir I go to was singing at a May Day Fair that I'd never otherwise have come across. The boys had a great time with activities, donkey rides and a scarily un-PC Punch & Judy show. DH was a little more frazzled trying to keep up with them though. No flying, but did some tidying up in the garden later, so that ought to count for something. Also a highly successful tea, with DS1 eating 4 helpings of pasta with tomato sauce, lamb, mushrooms and onions - something he'd never normally touch. Must have worked up an appetite. smile

Got to get back into routines tomorrow though.

I have been on here since the year dot and I must say I am uncomfortable with the blog link, but I do think we should just nicely ask Crafts to consider removing the link and being a bit more discrete. <please, very nicely!!!>
This IS more than a fly lady thread and I consider a number of these people on here as my friends, having met some and had some in depth contact with other's over the years. We have always made an effort not to be cliquey and I honestly think we could not have done better, but if we have loads of newbies turning up all at once (like the dreaded New Year Thread which has become legendary! grin ) then the whole ethos of the thread will shift and I do not think that the strong support and friendship on here would remain the same.
<trying to be diplomatic, like Nicks>

Busy day yesterday so very little done.
Off travelling to the countryside today. 2 hour drive each way - we do it once a week, but today we have a Dr over from NZ and we are expecting hundreds of villagers to come from miles around to see him. They dont have Drs in the villages and have to travel into the city for medical care normally - they can't even afford the bus fare to get into the city, so the vast majority never see a Dr. So today is a big day and we are expecting big things. I am hoping that the Dr can help and heal many people here. Its going to be a very long hot day!!! But our lovely friends have invited us for tea so that I dont need to do anything on our return. Yay for thoughtful friends. smile

Hope you have all had a lovely restful BH weekend in the sunshine. I hear it was warm.

Castlelough Mon 06-May-13 23:52:45

Massive apologies but I CAN'T get the links to load on my mum's laptop this evening. I can't get onto Mumsnet or even Google. angry
I will be back super early with the links, in the morning, when hopefully things will be back to normal... sad

Castlelough Tue 07-May-13 01:21:10

Oh dear. I have just caught up with the thread.
It appears to me that Crafts was well -meaning in trying to point her readers our way because she feels it would be more beneficial for them than tackling the Flylady website. And really, it is a compliment to the thread that she thinks the thread is so useful.

But I amn't quite comfortable either with the link idea. I'm sure Crafts could edit that bit out of her blog, and restore the happy medium here.
I really hope nobody will leave the thread. We can sort this out, surely? shock sad

<on iPhone btw, will post links in the morning on the laptop - apologies again for the epic fail on such a tumultuous evening..>

elliepac Tue 07-May-13 06:24:46

Hey all. Came on here to post about the fact that today I am planning to get back on the flylady wagon and see a whole can of worms has been opened.

Fwiw, as another who has been here since the inception (well a month after) I will echo what pa has said. She has put it far better than I could (no change there thengrin) and leave it at that.

Fly wise I need a list today to get me going:-

Morning routine
Parents Evening
Evening routine.

Short but i won't get home until 7 so that rather limits what I can do. (that's my excuse and am sticking to itwinkgrin).

WeLl on the plus side all the excitement appears to have encouraged me back on the wagon grin

I think this weeks zone will be the kitchen (really should know by now!) And mine certainly needs a bit of a polish!

List for today...

Clean mud off sofa arm
Lots of laundry
Paid work
15 mins gardening
Room rescue bedroom
Room rescue entrance

elliepac Tue 07-May-13 08:04:06

Me too pmpy, me toogrin. Shall we see who lasts longestwinkgrin. My money's on you!

DorisShutt Tue 07-May-13 08:21:45

Good morning all.

I'm a bit concerned that my blog has caused issues. As stated to Bitchy above, my blog is purely about me. I do expect to mention Flylady as an offshoot, but have no plans to mention either Mumsnet or this thread. Contributors of any ideas I pinch will be provided with a witness identity program! wink

Now, back to flying - I don't want to sound like a slacker coz I am but other than getting a load of washing out, I have no fixed plans. The Met Office is predicting rain for my area for the next few days, so it's make fun while the sun shines for me. I do need to pop to the supermarket for stuff for DS (he has a party this weekend which was sprung on us yesterday at nursery) so am off to pick up some toys as gifts.

Have a lovely day all!

Craftsonsea Tue 07-May-13 09:07:56

Oh heck, sorry I had no idea this would offend or upset anyone! I mentioned it because, as I stated previously, I was on this thread a while ago (under a different name) and I found it really helpful and recommended it to friends at the time. I've taken out any reference to Mumsnet (the link was to Good Housekeeping rather than this thread but I see your point) I didn't mention any other support threads on other sites as I wasn't aware there were any!

Castlelough Tue 07-May-13 09:18:28

Babystep 7 is an important one - lay out your clothes at night for the following day!

The Daily Focus for Tuesday is to Plan and Play....

The coming week sees us moving into Kitchen. We are decluttering, or detailed cleaning, in this zone for 15 minutes a day.

Today’s mission is to sort through your plastic food storage containers and declutter them.

The Flight Plan for our daily routines, should update automatically.

Finally, the habit for the month of May is to get Moving!

Castlelough Tue 07-May-13 09:21:51

Thank you Crafts thanks.
Doris I don't think you need to worry.

As for directing anyone our way.....they would take one look at us and run right over to the Flylady website - we definitely do more chatting than flapping in here! grin

Hope everyone has a good day today. I am not back to work until tomorrow smile but have to travel home from my parents house this afternoon and pick up the pieces at the Castle so that should be fun hmm

Wingflaps to everyone!

It's probably a useful reminder to us all that the interwebs are essentially public in any case.

At the moment I'm supposed to be working but am instead MNing and unpicking a random and pointless bit of itchy braid round the neck of an M&S T-shirt. confused

superfluouscurves Tue 07-May-13 09:35:22

Good morning everyone. Just got back on here and have been reading about blog ishews.

As others such as Castle have said, in the spirit of the thread, I am sure it can all been handled in a friendly way. I'm sure Craftsonsea didn't mean to (purposefully) cause any hassles.

(Thanks for your explanatory post Doris and arf at witness identity prog! grin)

For someone who can't post succinctly to save her life and over-shares (and whinges!) on a daily basis, in all honesty I suppose, like PA Just and Pushme I would much prefer there not to be a direct link here. (Live in expat community which although not small, makes it easier to be identified.) Also respect other views of long-timers such as Bitchy and Nicknacks who feel the nature of the thread will change if its exposed to too much public scrutiny. The support of the element of the thread is important I think.

On the other hand, we are using the facilities of a public site which is encouraging people to blog and link to other social media which leads me to a practical (genuine) question; are we "allowed" (ie within our rights)to ask people not to link to this thread? The answer is probably not (isn't it? - sorry - am woefully ignorant about social networking) but if asked nicely, Crafts on Sea might be willing to oblige!

Don't worry as PA and Blue have said, this thread has stumbled a couple of times but we have always got through it. I certainly hope no-one will leave because of this.

Have a good day people!

[Leaves out mollifying tray of [biscuits] and brew]

PA good luck with your demanding day!
Starting again (again) here too Ellie
Blue am increasingly envy of your community singing! Sounds fab!

Big encouraging wing flaps to everyone else!

GoingGoingGoth Tue 07-May-13 09:40:58

Phew <delurked> Felt I was still to much of a newbie to comment, but relieved our 'safe space' is back.

Beautiful day here in Glasgow (just 1 nice day expected, this is it, THIS is summer grin)

Late up blush
Dd to school
2nd load washing on

To do
Hang washing out (and cat)
Yesterday's laundry away.
Raid house for anything else that needs doing (wash basket is empty!) time to do hats, scarfs & gloves.
Litter tray
Empty refuse & recycling bins
Dust hmm
Can skip mission as plastic boxes are under control
Bring washing in (take cat out again)
Collect DD
Supervise homework/spelling
Wash up & SS

Enough to be getting on with!

superfluouscurves Tue 07-May-13 09:48:15

Oh God, how embarrassing, I've just spewed out post below without seeing Craftsonsea's post at 9:07:56 where she says she only linked to 'Good Housekeeping' not this specific thread and has now taken out any reference to Mumsnet!

Thanks for doing that Crafts! It's much appreciated. Sorry to miss your post!

[Clears throat, um, as you were people!] grin

superfluouscurves Tue 07-May-13 09:49:26

[Leaves out more brew and biscuit ]

superfluouscurves Tue 07-May-13 10:09:19

Good point Blue btw. I need reminding!

Meant to say Castle have a good trip home.

Waves to Goth and everyone else.

Better get on with yesterday's list blush

Jdub Tue 07-May-13 10:58:38

Morning all! Hope everyone has this glorious sunshine - it's SO beautiful!

Long weekend, but only time to achieve the bare minimum yesterday - but that did result in a floor wash!

to do
dust upstairs
sort ill-fitting clothes!

Have a lovely Tuesday x

Trazzletoes Tue 07-May-13 11:04:12

It's just me and DS at home today so list is:

Complete hospital visit
Wash blanket that DS has just vommed over because the daft receptionist only offered us a sick bowl AFTER he had been sick
Shopping at supermarket
Get kitchen back to reasonable standard
Do some crochet tonight

ToffeeWhirl Tue 07-May-13 12:39:27

Sorry to see all the upset on here last night, but very relieved harmony has been restored again <phew>. Crafts was clearly just being complimentary by linking to our thread. Thanks for taking out the link,*Crafts*, and do stick with us. If it makes you feel better, I was responsible for attracting an unprecedented number of newbies to our thread one New Year by not including the word 'fledgling' in the title to indicate that we were a long-running thread, but the thread survived and I am still here (and everyone is still talking to me, I think) blush.

Trazzle - good to see you are at home with DS today. Hope he's not sick again, poor boy.

Have had a sociable weekend, which also included taking the new kitten to the vet and discovering he had cat flu. Luckily, after being poorly for a few days, he is really perking up now and beginning to get his voice back.

DS1's OCD is awful today, so I have prescribed telly and kitten cuddles for him, whilst I tackle the house. I think I need to do a crisis clean <sigh>.

Will start with a list of three:

Wash our bedclothes
Wash up in kitchen
Room rescue in dining room

elliepac Tue 07-May-13 12:55:23

Thank you craftssmile.

Craftsonsea Tue 07-May-13 13:35:09

Thank you to Super, Castle, Blue and others, Toffee I think the last time I was on this thread it was probably the one you are referring to as I remember there being lots of newbies and it was around New Year?! Anyway as I said before, I was just trying to ensure that anyone who read my post and wanted to do Flylady found somewhere there would get some encouragement, I certainly didn't mean to offend. In all honesty I will probably pootle off elsewhere, so if someone wants to pm bitchy and tell her it's safe to return then go ahead, as she has been on here far longer than me I wouldn't want her to think that she's been kicked out in any way.

I've missed the hullabaloo too (been away for the weekend), but for what it's worth, I kind of like things just the way they are on this thread and it is a shame if anyone feels they have to leave (unless it is because they simply can't keep up with the chat in which case I fully understand). It is about so much more than housekeeping for those of us that have been on here a long time, newcomers are always welcome but it does get hard to keep up with if hordes descend all at once. I'm not too worried about my own privacy as I am careful with what I say on MN anyway but appreciate that there are others who due to circumstances are easier to identify. Anyway, it seems to have all been resolved now.

Just about to put my 5th lot of washing on the line, it's a glorious day here. We had a great weekend on the Isle of Wight, which is a regular destination for us, Saturday was a bit cold but otherwise lovely weather and a nice time was had by all.

I'm on my fasting day today after a weekend of overindulgence - I lost 3lbs last week but have managed to put it all back on again blush

Trazzletoes Tue 07-May-13 13:58:08

Crafts I don't think there is any need for you to go. I am sure Bitchy and NickNacks will be back imminently. I hope so, anyway.

superfluouscurves Tue 07-May-13 13:59:54

Yeah, sincerely hope everyone will feel that they can stay x

ToffeeWhirl Tue 07-May-13 14:11:48

I agree with Trazzle and others - don't feel you need to go, Crafts. I thought the issue had been resolved now.

Yes crafts don't go smile. I'm sure Bitchy won't have gone far.

elliepac Tue 07-May-13 19:44:28

Evening all. Hope calm has been restored and everybody who wants to be here still is. I actually have a ta da list to post <smug>.

ta da

Dinner (dh cooking)
Help ds with his homework.

Back later.

SilveryMoon Tue 07-May-13 19:56:04

Glad to see things have been resolved. Seems to be more of a case of misunderstanding (although, I am not trying to brush over anyone's feelings about it) but crafts says the link was to the general hpusework topic board and not this particular thread.
But now we have all had the chance to voice how we feel about being linked to etc it hopefully won't happen again.
I do hope bitchy and nicknacks come back soon.

Not much excitement here. Been on INSET today which was about SDP/RAP and then time to prepare phonics resources in the afternoon.

I've also got my most hated task of the year on my list ellie if it helps you feel better. Mine is the dreaded tax return. It isn't even that bad but it's the getting organised and actually geeting my backside in gear to do it. sad

Small ta da list but I'll not post it today ('tis very small!)

Work tomorrow and cleaner coming so should really be tidying round for her but will probably end up getting up a bit earlier and do it in the morning instead.

Need to need to need to clean the sofa but cba <sigh>

I think I am the tortoise without the long term achievement grin

Haven't done much today, but tomorrow is the 1st childfree day with no major work project lined up I've had for ages so am hoping to have a tada list by the end of it...

Not much done today as have a dd with chickenpox - managed to put wash on and make tea though, just not as much as id hoped!

I have ta da'd most of my earlier list with the exception of room rescuing the entrance which I cba to do.

No tupperware sorting for me this month as I did it last time it came up and haven't used any since it's still tidy <smug>

Struggling with the 5:2 diet today - am starving. Need to fold the washing but will have to do it in the morning instead

DorisShutt Wed 08-May-13 06:19:55

Morning all!

Work/fast day for me today so no to/ta-da list planned for me today.

Hoping to get the dishwasher emptied before I leave though.

Going to have to revise my home cleaning routine though; the stairs haven't been hoovered in... um... <gives up calculation>

Work should be relatively quiet today though, so I'll maybe just do that instead! blush grin

Jdub Wed 08-May-13 09:41:19

Good morning!
I have optimistically hung out a load of washing before I left for work - yes it was raining, but yes it was blowy too!!

Lots of bank chores and form bleugh to deal with today, but unusually, I'm at work on a Wednesday, and have a nice lot of things to do today here to get me in the mood for continuing my productivity (hmm - we'll see!) when I get home!

Have a top day xx

LPlateFlyer Wed 08-May-13 10:06:13

Morning all!

Castle - thank you for removing the link. Because of the risk of oversharing on here while chatting, I have deliberately used a different name to post on other threads (particularly AIBU!!). Only this thread and a DIY thread in the property section are under this name.

Well my flying has been very hit and miss lately.

I am keeping on top of my washing, the dishes get done, I am doing a better job of swishing the loo and bathrooms, prepping clothes for the next day, but the rest? Hopeless fail.

Did DIY work yesterday (painting the stair case), came on here to do some posting, but I'm doing the 5:2 and yesterday was my fast day, and I just couldn't stay on the computer as my cravings got too bad. 3rd fast day and it's really showing on the scales. Very pleased with it.

I need to do a quick run around and tidy up before I head out to work, as the DS's childcarer will be coming back here with them. (Eeek!!!)

Apologies everyone for the late links. My internet connection was down last night and this morning, at home. Am at work and shouldn't be online at all and finally getting the links up. Will be back later on.

LPlate I had nothing to do with the link. Crafts put up the link, and she took it down again.

Trazzletoes Wed 08-May-13 14:12:59

My house has just been completely trashed by a rampage of pre-schoolers. I want to cry.

Jdub Wed 08-May-13 14:29:01

I hope you knew them, and they weren't just a random marauding group of 3 year olds!!

DorisShutt Wed 08-May-13 14:50:08

See, now I have visions of a slightly more youthful St Trinians gang rampaging around Trazzles house grin Complete with catapults, dirty faces and cockney accents!

Is all calm again here? can't cope with added excitement at the moment.

Day off today and have done the grand total of......nothing!! Its been heavenly!!!

Yesterday was a very tiring day, but great fun. I was on the De-worming duty! Oh the glamour of my job!!!! I am slightly concerned though as I needed to ask all the females if there was any chance of being pregnant before giving them a tablet. I am worried that my language skills were not as good as they could be and the ladies thought I was giving them a tablet to stop them getting pregnant!!! I might need to go into hiding for the next 9 months and we might suffer a baby boom in the village and everyone would blame me!!!

day off tomorrow too - yay, 2 in a row, unheard of!!! Khmer reading lesson first thing, then some shopping and back to have a day of pottering around the house at my own pace and having rests from the heat between any jobs. Sounds good to me!! wink

DH is getting up at 2am to watch a football match, so he has already gone to bed. DS feeling unwell so he has gone to bed and DD4 gone to, so I am enjoying some FB time and chatting with DD1, 2 & 3! lovely!!! Just choosing a "mother of the bride" dress that wont make me look like a moving tent, or someone who is 80 years old!!!!

Evening everyone.

Trazzletoes Wed 08-May-13 15:45:01

I wish Doris. No, it's completely mashed playmobil, wee everywhere and everything trampled on, pulled apart and destroyed. I hate it. It actually drives me to tears every time. I tell them how much it stresses me out when they come. They keep inviting themselves over.

Trazzletoes Wed 08-May-13 15:49:28

Ps. I'm only bitching on here so I don't say anything to their faces because they are generally amazing incredibly supportive friends who help me out an awful lot.

superfluouscurves Wed 08-May-13 17:52:14

Trazzles think you are heroic to be hosting playdates for pre-schoolers fondly remembers time dd and 3 yr old friend spilt chocolate milk all over parquet and cleaned it up with the socks they were wearing at the time and then decided to wipe their hands on the white linen curtains. Think you need a lot some of this wine

Arf at PA's inadvertent baby-boom!

Sorry to hear about the chicken pox Newbie - hope your dd feels better soon

Pushme if you are the tortoise then I am elderly cranky dinosaur

[scratches head over narky namechanger - am useless at guessing!]

Big waves to Castle and everyone else

A bit of a 'meh' day here today. DD came home distraught having had a difficult morning (too long to share but classmate had pushed her and she is mahoosively over-sensitive). Dh scunnered and crabby because he's over-worked and is doing the 5:2 and it's a fast day.

I tried to hide in the garden (which looks wonderful at this time of year for 5 mins - lovely lilac and crab apple blossom - then it all goes down hill from then on in) but fur was flying (literally) when the rabbits had a horrible fight. They (both does) do annoy each other occasionally and hump for England/Belgium but normally get on pretty well. But today they fell out big time and were leaping in the air taking great junks out of one another. Have never seen anything like it. Rushed up the lawn to try and separate them and got scratched for my troubles. They have been lying peacefully stretched out together ever since though... let's hope the truce holds overnight (when they are locked up together).

SC tries to slip away without referring to Flying or tupperware

Sorry Castle, I did mean to type Crafts but in my hurry to post I mucked it up.

Tidy up of lounge
semi tidy up of dining room
semi tidy up of kitchen

My lovely childcarer/part time nanny (am only hiring her one afternoon a week, but she used to work for me as a mother's help several years ago when she first started and she and the DSs have a mutual admiration society going on!!) managed to sort the boys' room out in about 1 1/2 hours. She's seriously a wizard and a gem. I've now arranged with her to do a mix of childcaring and housework on the day she works for me. I'm hoping she can help me get this place sorted!!!

Trazzletoes Wed 08-May-13 18:58:41

sc it wasn't through choice. One of the other children walked in, went in to the toilet and proceeded to wee on the floor. He then refused the clean clothes he was given to wear and insisted on wearing his wet clothes to sit all over the playroom/ toys <sob> I have taken out shares in Dettol anti-bac spray.

newbiebaby Wed 08-May-13 20:11:17

Thanks super
Know the feeling trazzletoes what age do playdates start getting less stressful? ?

Done today:
Unloaded and loaded dishwasher
Load of washing done
Completely cleaned bathroom including floor!
Ss downstairs loo
Husband hoovered smile

Makes me feel good writing it all down, you achieve more than you think don't you!

Aim for this eve:
Sort dd toys
Hot spots

elliepac Wed 08-May-13 20:20:53

Evening all!

Ta da:-
Morning routine (sort of)
Ds swimming lessons
Dinner (dh)
Evening routine (sort of)
Bathed DD

toffee bitch away my lovelygrin. Playdates, or rather having to organise them, are one of the reasons I am sometimes glad I don't do the school rungrin. Sounds like a nightmare especially since yours are way past that stage!

sc rabbits fighting sounds horrible! I know you love your little animals but I really don't like them. Garden sounds lovelyenvy. Mine is a cross between the amazonian jungle and toys r us!

I am pooped but feeling I am starting to get back on the flywagon. Have just decided to go to the caravan this wkend with dsis and my gorgeous nephew. He is 3 months now and utterly adorable. Makes me feel broody.......until he crieswinkgrin.

Off to slob on the sofa and watch tv.

elliepac Wed 08-May-13 20:23:19

Clearly I meant to sympathise with trazzles over the playdate and not toffee. thought it was weird toffee had 3yr olds for a playdate. They both begin with t????? Long daygrin.

I have a ta da! list:
Stripped beds
Washing done and dry
Changed sofa throws
Hoovered through
Mopped kitchen floor
Dusted dresser & contents
Ordered nice box for bathroom cleaning stuff
Cleared piano hotspot
Desk hotspot
Rescued dining room and sitting room
Bit of work
Major emailing campaign
Victory over non-paying agency
Remade boys' beds
Cleaned kitchen

Still to do
Remake bed
Put clean laundry away

Trazzles that sounds horrendous! Don't blame you for being stressed. [Proffers wine ]

SC - sounds like you need some wine too!

newbie - well done for getting anything done with chicken poxy child!

Big waves to everyone else.

Babystep 9 is to read the Decluttering Flying lesson and to add a five minute room rescue to your Morning Routine.

The Daily Focus for Thursday is Errand Day.

We’re in The Kitchen until the end of the week. We are decluttering, or detailed cleaning, in this zone for 15 minutes a day.

Today’s Misson is to grab a toothbrush and scrub the faucets of the kitchen sink…
The Flight plan for our daily routines, should update automatically.

Finally, the habit for the month of May is to get Moving!

Castlelough Wed 08-May-13 22:17:17

Good evening everyone!

I have a tiny list today but at least I have one for a change.
In honour of Anti-Procrastination Day I made an appointment to see the doctor about something that I’ve been worrying about for a year while…
I also managed to tidy the kitchen (sink is shining!) and to do blush Monday’s Mission.

I am totally stumped as to who the Narky Namechanger is btw….!

Newbie has a little one with chicken pox to cope with these days. Have some wine.
LPlate is also doing the 5:2 diet…..tell me more! How are you finding it?
Doris I hope your fast day has gone well today.
Elliepac Well done on your list, and also on getting Moving! You are doing well with your C25k – good for you!
Trazzles has had a pack of toddlers gatecrashing her home today, and they’ve left their mark! shock Oh dear!
PA has been choosing a ‘mother of the bride’ outfit! Very exciting! Had a grin at your efforts to boost the baby boom out in your corner of Asia!
SC I used to have two rabbits when I was a teenager younger. They were both bucks, and used to carry on exactly as you have described your does. They would hump each other, and tear tufts out of each other, drawing blood. It was quite worrying to watch so I’ll extend my sympathies…
Elliepac is back on the Flywagon and doing really well!
Blue has a very sizeable ta-da list!
Waves to JDub, Pushme and anybody else who may be loitering in the naughty corner… grin.

LPlateFlyer Wed 08-May-13 23:21:10

Castle - it's going well! The fast days are a little tough still (they supposedly get easier), but knowing I can eat/snack on whatever I want the next day makes it a lot easier. The scales have been kind!! smile

I have a small ta da list...
Ta da
Pay in cheque
Make tea
phone dentist
pay nursery

Haven't managed the tip and cba to clean the base boards because meh, life is too short!

trazzles many preschoolers sounds horrendous - we have had our fair share of playdates here and you have my sympathy (and wine )

ellie you're keeping me on track - I'm determined not to immediately lapse again this time grin. Babysteps right?

Hello to everyone else - started writing this about 2 hours ago and just realised I didn't post it and now it's time to go to bed blush

Trazzles & Newbie - playdates get better when your children are 20 years old and have their own home to have them in!!! wink

CHBitchy Thu 09-May-13 06:32:47

It is incredibly hard to get anything done when you have no power supply. Essential works apparently. Early start here to compensate and I have already managed to get a pin stuck in my finger right by the underside of the nail. sad Long long list of stuff to do and insane day. Am ignoring rl in favour of a ta da list today. Everything else can go to hell and preferably stay there but it wont

NarkyNamechanger Thu 09-May-13 06:41:40

smile good morning!

Sorry to hear about the power cut bitchy That would also be a nightmare in our house.

Thursdays are my favourite day so happy it's here smile

DH is off and I'm only working until 12pm so we might go for a lazy lunch with dd.
Waiting for an email from a potential client which looks poke a perfect job for me- wish me luck smile
Must wash our bedding today- it's going to start growing legs soon. Yuk!
On a happier note, my crap sleeping 2yo slept through until 6am this morning smile

Have a lovely day, BBL.

Morning smile
Todays list will be mostly the undone bits of yesterdays list!

Plus a bit of exercise if I get round to it! And return the boots that don't fit!

Diet day today and I'm already hungry!

CHBitchy Thu 09-May-13 08:08:10

ta da
2nd load of washing on
label 2 entire sets of clothes, a face cloth, a hand towel, dressing gown, pjs and animal
accidentally stick pin into leg <ouch>
drink far too much coffee for before 7am
pack ds' bag
consider plans for the day.

DorisShutt Thu 09-May-13 08:15:49

Today I'm mostly going to be mainlining coffee... DS had a brilliant day at nursery; ran about like a dervish and ate like a horse, and was knackered at bedtime - but then woke in the night and wouldn't go back without me. And he was HOT, I suspect he may have got a bit too much sun as he was moaning about a headache - I think I may have to ensure he has a hat with him at all times. Either way, I am shattered and tempted just to tell the flying to f... lutter off wink

However, it is a glorious day today (the last forecasted for a while) so I'm tackling more of washing mountain.

I also need to gag my DS as he's on an "I want" day - and it's driving me nuts. "Wanna go outside", "wanna play playdoh", "wanna help mummy work"... all on a repeat and every 5 seconds... hmm

BBL with possibly a ta-da list...

MrsBodger Thu 09-May-13 09:24:59

Hi - lots of people saying good things about the Flylady site, so I've just signed up and I am a bit . . . confused. I get the cleaning the sink bit, but after that, all these zones and launch pads and babysteps, not to mention the 12 inspirational emails a day - I'm more likely to end up lying in a darkened room with an ice pack on my head than doing anything useful. Please can one of you lovely people help me to make sense of it?

LPlateFlyer Thu 09-May-13 11:51:23

Ignore the site MrsB - and just follow our illustrious leader's posts with the relevant links. (If you have them highlighted in green it makes it even easier!)

A bit of a fly fail this morning -

unload and reload the dishwasher
fed and water DSs
school and nursery run
get to work

Washing has been ignored, not much other tidying up done.

Today is a fast day which actually makes the mornings go easier because I just rush around and avoid eating!! grin (Although only having 1 day gap between the 2 fast days isn't nice, much prefer the 2 day gap but thanks to the Bank Holiday couldn't/wouldn't do it.)

Time for some light lunch though, as my stomach is growing at me.

SilveryMoon Thu 09-May-13 12:11:59

I am in serious danger of nutting some cunt.
That is all for now.

MrsB if you've subscribed to the emails its probably best for your sanity to unsubcribe again (although some people like them).

As LPlate says, all the links you need are on the thread. If you're just starting out, the idea is to start with the baby steps which will then build up into a daily routine. There are quite a few rubbish ones so it should be quite easy to catch up for this month if you want to.

Mrs Bodger - de-register from receiving the emails!!! You will be in-undated and lost under the mountain of them!! Come and join us here. To start with, join in the baby steps and probably ignore the rest and as time goes by and you get more of a routine you can browse through the other links and see what you want to do. Babysteps is the way to go!!! Welcome here. We do a lot more chat than housework, by the way!!!

Silvery are you morphing into Bitchy Your post confused me!!

massive storm here for the past 2 hours! Lovely!!

You should all be proud of me today. I was really brave and spoke to our lodgers about the fact that they leave so much stuff lying around for me to clean up. It was ok when the cleaner was coming in, but now we dont have a cleaner I am NOT, NOT, NOT, under any circumstances prepared to clean up their mess!!!! A marked improvement today has been noted, but still not perfect - ie: baking tray left for me to clean from lunch time. DH said I should have left it for them, but I needed to use it for our tea. <sigh> I so need a new cleaner!!!

Ironing pile is still glaring at me. - it started raining just as I was about to start it - HONEST!!! and I can't iron in the rain cos rain pours through on the electrics, and I dont fancy frying myself for the sake of a few creases.

CHBitchy Thu 09-May-13 12:50:12

Silvery's post is simple. Shit is kicking off at work and she is venting here instead of carrying out action mentioned in post.

I need to go deal with rl. I don't want to. sad

CHBitchy Thu 09-May-13 12:50:30

Oh and there is cake in the naughty corner.

newbiebaby Thu 09-May-13 14:58:04

Chickenpox beginning to wear us all down, poor dd is covered!
Have managed to bake cakes with her and look after her and ds but not much flying other than a swish/swipe this morning, hope tomorrow get more done when they're both in bed and then have a wine

newbiebaby Thu 09-May-13 14:58:43

To not tomorrow!

Engelsemama Thu 09-May-13 15:05:34

A flying wing flap from windy Kent. Over for a long weekend visiting family. Looking at my DM's house I don't think she has read the FL book I got her last year...but then I don't suppose my house looks like FL's either right now wink

castle good on you for getting yourself to GP. I'm also the type of person who leaves things for too long, ignoring them or hoping they will go away. On that note I think I should follow your lead and go and see my GP about PMT whihc has been horrendous the last 4 months. At the beginning of this week I was filled with rage at everything - DH, bread rolls, colleagues, students, drivers. I just wanted to SHOUT and ROAR very loudly at anyone and everyone. And that's not me blush Still, I can empathise with Silvery's sentiments today!

trazzles as someone struggling at the moment with one toddler I am dreading the day I have to entertain other people's children especially since it will most likely be in Dutch so they will laugh and point at me <Remembers the shame of having my grammar corrected by 4yo DN>

PA Well done. I am indeed very proud of you grin

sc your garden sounds lovely (apart from rabbit fight obviously)

<scoffs at least half of Bitchy's cake> (calories don't count when you're 'abroad' )

Am on a very slow laptop whihc takes an age to load a page so can't scrollback any further. And even though I'm on holiday I think I still need lists...

Ta da
Pay credit card online
Spend obscene amount of money at supermarket - when did England get so expensive
Stuff face
Natter with mum
Enjoy peace and quiet while DS and DH both sleep

To do
Stuff face at Beefeater
More nattering with mum
Enjoy having a bath (we don't have one ta home and I miss it!)

Will be back next week I expect when we are in NL again, so have a rgeat weekend everyone.

LPlateFlyer Thu 09-May-13 15:25:28

<scoffs some virtual cake - it's all I can have sad>

Ho hum, bored at work. About to head home - hopefully I will be inspired to do more than some feeble fluttering (don't like my chances though! grin)

SilveryMoon Thu 09-May-13 16:38:24

Thanks bitchy Yes, was at work, on a quick fag break and just needed to get that comment off my chest before I said that to him!
All very boring just pissed off with it all.

Guess what I've just done? The weekly shopping! Am trying to jump in the daily focus stuff. Go me!

NarkyNamechanger Thu 09-May-13 21:06:44

Had some really sad news so all flying halted sad

My SIL/closest friend has had a miscarriage sad I just feel so so sad.

ToffeeWhirl Thu 09-May-13 21:17:38

Really sorry to hear that, Narky. sad

Castlelough Thu 09-May-13 21:22:03

Just dropping by with the links for tomorrow! Am just home, after having a lovely dinner at DMil's smile.
Have to do a serious amount of piano practise tonight shock as I am accompanying the school choir for the First Holy Communion on Sunday. Tomorrow is our last rehearsal and I have left all the hard work til the last minute. It's my third year doing it, but I still find I have to practise really hard coming up to it (Am only on Grade 4...) Anyway I was pretty rubbish at today's practice so I must get on to it RIGHT NOW!!!
Apologies for the lack of a round-up. Castle xxx

Babystep 10 is to discover the power of 15 minutes! Flylady is spot on with this one – it’s surprising what can be achieved in just 15 minutes!

The Daily Focus for Friday is to declutter the rubbish from your car and your handbag – easy!

We’re in The Kitchen until the end of the week. We are decluttering, or detailed cleaning, in this zone for 15 minutes a day.

Today’s Misson is to wipe down the doors of your kitchen cabinets.

The Flight plan for our daily routines, should update automatically.

Finally, the habit for the month of May is to get Moving!

FoundAChopinLizt Thu 09-May-13 21:23:38

Hi all, I need to get flying again, so marking my place for some inspiration.

Castlelough Thu 09-May-13 21:26:07

Narky I've just spotted your message. Am sorry about the sad news. Just be there for her, let her talk whenever she is ready and whatever you do don't say 'the baby mustn't have been healthy/you're better off'. Somebody said that to me and it was just the worst flowers

NarkyNamechanger Thu 09-May-13 21:47:10

We've had a chat and I let her do most of the talking. She said she felt better at the end and her and BIL had decided 'it wasn't meant to be'. (Her words I didn't say a lot at all). She seems relatively ok but will see her tomorrow and I'm sure we'll have a cry. It's a very much wanted first baby so they want to start trying again ASAP.

Sorry to hear that Narky

Engelse, hope you enjoy your weekend.

LPlate sorry if stating the bleeding obvious, but have you got calomine cream? Didn't know it existed till DS1 had the pox last year and it's wonderful stuff.

Ta da!
Laundry done, dry and away
Wiped kitchen counters, cupboards and appliances
Errands day
Got new box to store cleaning stuff in the bathroom smile

To do
Have strong words with DS1's teacher. He brought home a book about Aliens & UFOs and was reading it in bed then called out because he was scared. It's got stills from Aliens and Predator in it. He's 6. angry and also angry at myself for not checking it out first.

SilveryMoon Fri 10-May-13 04:15:34

Narky so sorry to hear about your friend.
I lost my first and second and forth. The first was awful, made me feel like my body wasn't able to do what it was supposed to do, what it was designed for. I was quite young. 19/20 I think. It sent me into a phase of having little respect for my body and going through a few years of living with lose morals iykwim.
Nothing anyone says will help I'm sure. Just follow her lead like you're already doing.

Sorry to hear about your friend too narky. I've had a couple of mcs myself and it's so upsetting.

Mamaged most of my to do list yesterday except returning my boots. Plus a very full on day at work so I'm fairly happy. Big fail on the diet day though so I'm going to have to do it today instead

To do
Return boots
Lots of paid work!
Some other stuff I can't think of!

Bbl smile

newbiebaby Fri 10-May-13 07:33:20

Sorry to hear about your friend narky so difficult to know what to say
Thanks blue I have calamine but dd refuses it!? I love the stuff!
Another day in quarantine will try to get washing date and sort Hotspots, we'll see.........

NarkyNamechanger Fri 10-May-13 08:28:26

Thanks everyone for your messages. smile

Quick list as start work in 15 minutes

Wash our bedding and ds2's bedding
Tumble it all
Remake the beds
Hoover sitting room
Pick ds1 up from coach
Catch up with planning
Beaver/cubs run
Write card / wrap present
Sort sofa cushions
Do more washing if poss.
Sort bed for sleepover
What's for dinner?

DorisShutt Fri 10-May-13 09:01:50

Sorry for your friends loss Narky.

I've lost 8lb!!!!!!!! grin

Today my list is:
Doctor for DS who has an inexplicable rash; suspect it's viral, but who knows.
Supermarket (if DS is not contagious)
Die in the corner as I didn't sleep well last night.

Really need to do a blitz on the living room, but will probably do it tomorrow when DS is (hopefully, rash dependent) out at a party.

LPlateFlyer Fri 10-May-13 10:18:56

Narky - so sorry to hear about your friend. Can't imagine what it would have been like with a first pregnancy. I had it with my 2nd, and it was crap going through it then.

Newbie - put some oatmeal in a sock/stocking end, tie a knot and pop it into the bath. Squish it around so the bath goes creamy, and rub it over the skin as well. It's very soothing and healing. My DS's had lots of fun rubbing it on themselves!

Doris - well done! The 5:2 diet really seems to work, doesn't it!

Since my first weigh in Monday 5/5 I've lost 8.5 pounds. So blooming chuffed. Had gained 12 pounds since I hurt my ankle - another few weeks and I should be back to pre-injury weight, which is my first goal.

LPlateFlyer Fri 10-May-13 10:20:05

Oops - completely forgot to put my flying in!!! blush

DSs fed and watered
school/nursery run

pretty pathetic, really.

To do:

Watched the hoarder show on tv and it inspired me to start ditching stuff.

FoundAChopinLizt Fri 10-May-13 10:33:53

So far

Washing on
Dishwasher on
School run
Mini shop
Dog walk

1/2 hr in dd2s room-sleepover friend coming
Main bathroom quick clean
15min declutter
Admin jobs

Well done Doris! smile

newbie Is it the lotion or the cream? The cream is much nicer. I presume you know all the tips about oat baths and suchlike.

superfluouscurves Fri 10-May-13 11:34:14

Hello (still confused by name changers [thick as two short planks emoticon]).

A warm welcome to MrsBodger

and hello again to NarkyNamechanger and FoundachopinLizt (sorry - not sure who you are - but assuming not newcomers!!) Welcome back!! smile

Hope everyone OK. Yet another public holiday yesterday which was spent very pleasantly going over to friends for lunch - only did a couple of loads of washing and a bit of rabbit maintenance rest of day so hardly taxing. Felt so tired I almost felt ill afterwards though. I've no idea why. Have woken up feeling the same but dd's school is closed for another day - and cleaner has cancelled at last minute (for nth time - sigh) so had better try and dig up some energy from somewhere.

Ta da:
morning routine inc wm, dw, rabbits, s&s
hwk supervision
tidied up kitchen

To do:
take dd out
clean ground floor and bathroom

I'm sorry your friend is going through such a rotten time Narky It's good that she has a friend like you to confide in.

Congratulations on the weight loss Lplate and Doris - you've both done brilliantly well!!! [SC stares at weighing scales guiltily]

Lplate your former nanny sounds lovely (and v. efficient!)
Doris hope your ds's temp has come down

Sorry you've been having such a rough time with PMT Engels - hope you can get it sorted. In the meantime - enjoy your sojourn in Blighty!!

[delivers crate of Dettol anti-bac spray to Trazzles in case of further play dates]

Newbie - your poor dd!

Ellie hope you have a well deserved rest at the caravan!

Castle buns should really be spayed because they are at risk of getting uterine cancer aged 4 if not (and it would settle their behaviour) but it is not routinely done here and I am reluctant to risk them being operated on by a vet who hasn't had experience with such a big operation. Think the long journey to UK would stress them out horribly. So still searching ... Happily, they seem OK again today - I'm checking them on a more regular basis than normal - and they are stretched out, content, and just look up as if to say "what's all the fuss then?". Good luck with the piano practice! HOpe it all goes well on Sunday!

Big wing flaps to anyone I've missed (loads of people - sorry!). Had better go and pretend to look lively even if I feel a 100

newbiebaby Fri 10-May-13 13:05:15

Ok not flying related but has anyone any idea how I can persuade my poorly dd to let me put calamine lotion on her? Shes three and absolutely covered in pox and so uncomfortable sad but she refuses to have it put on

newbiebaby Fri 10-May-13 13:06:22

Oops x post that'll teach me not to scroll back thanks for all your fab suggestions

newbie my 3yo DS2 is amenable to the idea that we can do things (hair washing, taking medicine, having cream on etc) the nice way, where he lets me get on with it and it's soon over and done with, or the nasty way, where I have to wrestle with him about it and everything takes longer and is much harder for everyone...

LPlateFlyer Fri 10-May-13 15:00:27

Newbie - could you turn it into a game? Give her a paint brush and she can play 'join the dots' with it? Turn her into an alien with pink spots and put her hair up into a weird pointy thing or something. Count them as you do it, and see if she can count with you?

The cream is better, the lotion leaves it feeling a bit funny from memory.

CHBitchy Fri 10-May-13 15:33:58

cream is also better if you have a child allergic to milk as there is milk in the lotion.

FoundAChopinLizt Fri 10-May-13 16:03:09

This thread works, I've got more done today than normal. I just need motivation and I'm quite efficient once I get going.

DorisShutt Fri 10-May-13 17:11:19

Well, I managed everything on my list, except dying in the corner. Work came up with an ask for that. Still, at least it's more overtime.

Waiting on BIL to let us know whether he got a job or not today, so I can't settle until I hear - I keep checking my phone, so DS is getting quite annoyed.

DS' temperature has gone, so it's definitely a viral thing we think, but the GP is happy he's not contagious so I'll get peace for a haircut tomorrow while DH take him to his party.

On the downside, I have a slow puncture so we're off to a tyre place tomorrow to get it sorted; we do have a kwik fit in the town, but they're useless (they stripped the locking wheel nuts last time by tightening them with a power thing instead of doing it manually hmm

Ah well, have a good weekend all - you'll find me in the naughty corner bar if you need me; just poke me if I snore! wink

Swanhilda Fri 10-May-13 18:01:00

hiya, everyone.
as usual my computer is not functioning...I am using one at swimming pool instead! Where we are not actually swimming, but boys are doing tennis lesson to improve their abysmal hand to eye coordination etc.

Toffee I saw you in in the kitten thread, so sorry that cat has cat flu! What a shock. I was just getting kittens vaccinated today, in advance of their going to homes; I was beginning to wonder whether catflu was invented by vets to get more money, but you have reminded me it is true. sad. I am loving the kittens, I will be so sad to see them go. It is quitel hard work though, having 7 cats in the house, as you can imagine.

Trazzles I can remember playdates for pre-schoolers as v stressful unless their mums stayed and did loads of fielding.

better go tennis is over and now I have to go to the dreaded secondary quiz night. not looking forward to having to look smartish...

newbiebaby Fri 10-May-13 18:26:50

Thanks everyone took a leaf out of your book blue and she eventually got in the bath lplate she liked the counting too!
Thanks again everyone smile

Castlelough Fri 10-May-13 20:49:35

Argh! Have just been awakened by the sound of a fox wailing barking incessantly outside the bedroom window. He came out on the wrong side of an argument with one of my cats (good boy Ginger grin). Had to go down and chase fox away though! Such a brazen creature shock.

Happy Birthday, Blue! <snaffles slice of cake for breakfast>. Hope you have a great day.

Swan - yes, vet says kitten probably caught cat flu from his cat family before vaccination, but the vaccination has suppressed his symptoms. He has been very listless, lost his voice, has gummy eyes and sneezes, but I think he is on the mend now. He was quite playful at times yesterday and he's eating a lot.

I can't imagine how you are coping with seven cats in your house!

newbie - hope your DD is starting to feel better today. It's good to get chickenpox over with, but it can make you feel rotten.

Silvery - let us know how you got on with the contact lense lesson. I have been planning to do that for ages and still haven't got round to it. Your list is huuuuge!

Castle - thanks for all the links and updates. My kitchen needs attention, so I will be checking out the missions today.

Trazzles - sorry about the messy playdate!

Doris - hope your DS feels better today and that you get your haircut (I regard my trips to the hairdresser as mini holidays smile).

Found - good to know the magic of Flylady is working on you already!

SC - sorry you are feeling so tired. I usually find tiredness like that turns out to be something I'm fighting off. Hope that's not the case for you and that you feel more energetic today.

LPlate - congratulations on all that weight loss. That takes will power.

<scoffs more birthday cake>

Narky - am also stumped as to who you might be! Welcome if you are a newbie (and intrigued as to who you are if a regular).

Waves to Bitchy, WhoKnows, Just, Ellie, PA, Pushme, Engels, MrsB, Jdub, Honu and everyone else, including lurkers (Linzer - I'm looking at you wink).

Am so sleepy, I would quite like to go back to bed, but should do stuff instead. MIL is coming round this afternoon and DM is arriving tomorrow, so I need to get the house in some sort of order.

And there is so much washing to do. <weeps>

Going to a birthday party this afternoon, which sounds as if it will be a lot of fun (chocolate fountains and live animals - hopefully not all together).

Hope you all have a good day.

SilveryMoon Sat 11-May-13 09:37:13

Oh, meant to say re chicken pox, I found virasoothe to be much better than calamine. It's a gel so easier to get on and both ds's seemed happier with it than the milky stuff.
Oats in tights feet is good. I use that when ds2 has an eczema break out.

toffee that list is for today and tomorrow.

DorisShutt Sat 11-May-13 12:12:16

Happy Birthday Blue thanks (we really need a cake icon!)

My ta-da list so far:
Car to lovely garage for new tyre - not required as they fixed it rather than replacing it!
Bit of shopping in town not buying present for DFather coz I forgot at all!!!
DS & DH to party
Me to hairdresser (and I saw cheekbones in the mirror!)

Now home and chilling waiting for DS and DH to come home.

superfluouscurves Sat 11-May-13 14:13:20

Afternoon my lovelies ...thanks all ... still feeling a bit tired but better than yesterday thankfully! (Hope completely recovered by Monday as dh is off travelling again and dd is playing up something rotten.)

Hope you can catch up on sleep soon Toffee and enjoy the party this afternoon! (Hope your cat feels better too.)

Congrats on cheekbones Doris!

Admiring looks for Castle's super-hero cat

Good luck with your long list Silvery

Waves at Swan and shock at 7 cats (which must be a handful!)

Glad the system is working for you FoundachopinL

Huge waves to everyone else (including Linzer wink)!!

I'm off to knaw on a large plank to stop me saying something I shouldn't! Thought things were turning a corner with dd and school: we have been on top of her with regard to hwk, employed French tutor, thought need to work hard had finally sunk in, but have received a note from one of her teacher's asking why she hadn't done any study (at all!) for a test. Even worse - dd blatantly lied to me about having done the prep for it (three times!) and although she knows she has to re-sit it on Monday - told us that she didn't have any more hwk this w/e AND has deliberately left the relevant folder at school. sad I despair. I really do.

Have a good weekend everyone!

CHBitchy Sat 11-May-13 14:40:11

Thanks everyone. I did manage to achieve my birthday list, despite a false start when the boys woke up at 5.40... [weeps] Once the CBeebies-sitter had woken up too, we were able to go back to bed. DH cooked me a lovely breakfast, we dragged the boys around a few shops and had lunch at our favourite Italian restaurant, and then we had a decadent crab & asparagus salad after they'd gone to bed. smile

Yay to cheekbones, Doris!

Oh dear SC school does seem awfully tough over there. The children here have it easy in comparison. ((hugs))
Glad you had such a lovely birthday Blue <glugs back a glass of wine from naughty corner bar!>
Silvery well done on your list, I hope you took some time for yourself and some fun too. You deserve it.
Newbie sorry to hear ds may be starting the chicken pox too, but maybe it’s better to have them both done with it at the same time. Have some wine!
Bitchy Big hugs. Please take care of yourself. <leaves some [coffee] out>
Doris It sounds like the diet is really working for you! Well done!
Toffee I hope the birthday party went well, and that your wee kitty is picking up again.

Today turned out to be my errand day. Had quite a productive day today!
*Ta Da*:
-Meal planned and big grocery shop, and picked up some lovely garden accessories at great prices at Aldi! smile
-Bought prescription and a wrist brace for carpal tunnel syndrome, as diagnosed by the doctor yesterday (could be worse - I was terrified I was getting some debilitating disease shock after a year of worsening
symptoms I was trying to ignore blush)
-Collected my watch, repaired and with a new battery, a gift from DH years ago, delighted to have it back on my wrist! smile
-Bought some resources I needed for school.
-Visited the horses and DMil...
-Practised piano for tomorrow's Communion like a loony <eek!>
-Kitchen tidy.
-Emmmm trying to think of some actual flying...blush

Goodnight everyone!

SilveryMoon Sun 12-May-13 07:23:15

Thanks. We went to the park and took the stabilisers off their bikes.
Trying again today.
We also had a nice lunch at pizza hut and watched a film together in the afternoon, the rock is hot! Never quite realised before!
Back in a bit with today's list

SilveryMoon Sun 12-May-13 07:54:25

Think that'll do it. 2 weeks til half-term! 10 working days and counting

ToffeeWhirl Sun 12-May-13 10:49:12

Kitty definitely on the mend and eating like a tiny horse, thanks Castle.

Birthday party was a bit of a disaster for us as DS2 behaved appallingly, refused to take his coat off, talk to anyone, etc. Sat on DH's lap, with his face pressed into his chest. We were so embarrassed, especially as we had already had to explain that DS1 can't go out at the moment. In the end, we had to leave early.

We were really cross with DS2, but it turns out he probably has a chest infection, so now we feel really guilty! I was up at 3am, giving him Ventolin, Calpol, etc and he hasn't been able to sleep since then. We now feel like the worst parents in the world blush.

DM arrived first thing this morning, so I somehow have to transform DS2's unbelievably untidy bedroom into the guest room. Eek.

Hope you all have a good Sunday. It's meant to be a day for renewing your spirit, remember hmm.

SilveryMoon Sun 12-May-13 14:28:56

toffee sorry to hear about ds2. Hope he's Ok. Try not to feel bad, we've all been there.

Castlelough Sun 12-May-13 14:36:15

Well the Communion is over - phew! And although I made a few tiny mistakes, nobody else noticed not even the choir mistress who never misses a trick! Such a relief to have it over with.

To Do List:

-relax with [coffee]
-a few phone calls
-eat lots of rubbish
-practise for my piano exam
-hunt for a cow (yes you read that right! DH couldn't find one of them this morning, so I am being drafted in for Round 2) It is raining and the cows have 80 acres of bog, rock, lake, and hilly fields to hide in! Argh!
-possibly catch up with a returning hen party in the pub (didn't go, due to Communion duties).
No Actual Flying well maybe before-bed routine...

ToffeeWhirl Sun 12-May-13 15:34:43

Silvery - thanks, Silvery. Trouble is we use up all our reserves on DS1, so DS2 gets short shrift sometimes. Hope I have made up for it since though. Am taking very, very good care of him today.

Castle - well done on getting through the Communion. Hope the cow hunting doesn't take too long!

Just back from a pub lunch with DM, DH and DS2. DH is watching a James Bond with DS2 and DM is having a nap which means I can sneak off for a nap myself!

NarkyNamechanger Sun 12-May-13 20:21:32

Managed most of my "list" grin, though was thankfully saved from going on the cow hunt, as the cow reappeared! Phew!
DH really needs to do some fencing though - I went down to treat the horses to some soft apples and a naughty cow had broken in to their field! They were a bit shock and hmm.
Didn't do much flying but I did some reading for me (not for work)shock and I have made my lunch for tomorrow shock! Both rareties chez moi!
Actually I did change bed linen so that's one bit of the WHB out of the way for tomorrow! ;-)
Must go pm Narky now!

Good Morning!!!

Time to be up and doing here. Only another 24hrs and then the rl craziness is hopefully going to feck off and life return to a more sensible pace. Then I can get on with dealing the crap.

DorisShutt Mon 13-May-13 06:25:11

Morning all!

Didn't get on yesterday as was engaged in a crisis clean as DF arrives today. I really need to declutter more - I have a spare room full of "things" in drawers and on the bookshelves. Most of it I want to keep - the collection of mini-dragons my DH bought me throughout our engagement, photographs of family, and a few ornaments that are lovely. But there are so many other bits that have ended up there; I think I need a day when DS is at nursery and I'm not at work.

Trouble is that DH is, while not a hoarder, not exactly keen on the cleaning malarkey. Have to do it all in a oner I think!

Work today (boo, hiss!) so not much flying to be done.

Have fun everyone!

feetheart Mon 13-May-13 07:06:16

Oh dear, oh dear it has taken me until now to find you all - HUGE Fledgling fail on my part.
My main excuse has been DH and work which has gone even more mental. Great to be self-employed and busy, not so good to be self-employed and attempting to do the work of 2 or 3 people at the same time shock
It means that I have been busy with work too - doing at least 2-3 days for DH instead of 1.5, plus my own stuff and I get to pick up all the slack with everything else as DH just isn't around and we are supposed to be going camping for 10 days at the w/e (more later!) and the work on our extension starts next week and I'm in charge of that too. The words 'meeting myself' and 'coming backwards' are in my mind most of the time at the moment - argggggghhhhh.
As for Flying - hmmmm - 'flapping woefully' is probably a better description hmm

And now it is 7am and time to get the masses moving. Hopefully I'll be back later to catch up on you all <<waves manically>>

Morning! In survival mode here. After loads of short school holidays, C is off school with unfortunately timed sore throat/fever/lethargy (thought she was putting it on to avoid homework debacle but turns out she is really ill) and I have same thing. Really worried about the work she will be missing. DH in Middle East. Longing to get back to "normal" routine as mid-May approaches as summer holidays start end of June here, so not much time left to sort house. Oh well....

A warm welcome back to Engels and Feetheart

I was wondering how the HOly Communion event went Castle - well done!

Glad your sil is feeling a bit stronger Narky

Better drag myself down to the laundry and start sorting the smalls. Have a good week everyone!

Jdub Mon 13-May-13 13:08:34

Afternoon! Better late than never!!!
Am at work for a rest after quite a bumpy weekend - lots of shouty argumentative kids (and me) At least here, I don't have to keep saying 'STOP IT' in ever increasing volume increments!

It also occurred to me on my journey in, that there was only one moment over the weekend where everything WAS actually in order, washing away, appropriate storage available for toys etc, quite a clean house, ya da ya da ya da! Then, once the dry washing was brought in off the line to be sorted, the balance shifted, and boom!

Have the dentist later, so at least I have a comfy lie-down to look forward to!
Have a productive day x

Hello everyone
Quick post from me as off to bed -

looked after the 'chickenpox two' all day so ltd flying achieved, just got back from much needed band practice, lovely to get out of the house!

Loving this thread, very supportive so thank you

See you in the morning

CHBitchy Mon 13-May-13 23:55:33

Clearly not Silvery. Only just now about to head to bed. Another stupid early start tomo.

DorisShutt Tue 14-May-13 06:18:16

No personals today as im on my phone, but hi to new people and wing flaps to old!

Fidnt get back on yesterday as my day pretty much sucked - apart from the arrival of DF.

Turns out DS, in playing in DH's car while we unpacked the shopping on Sunday, left the headlights on. Cue flat battery yesterday with the ensuing crap due to DS having to get to nursery and me having to et to work. Still, DH managed to source a new battery and fitted it last night. Hopefully it will work, if not, he'll take my car as we're not really needing it today. Oh, and then I had a 4 hour budget meeting at work yesterday hmm Definitely not the most fun ever!

DF is only here today, so flying will be on hold apart from the usual tidying up after meals etc.

Hope you all have good days!

Morning all
Just jumping back nn before I lose motivation!
Absolutely knackered - too much work and no sleep. House is slipping but work is slipping further so I'm going to keep the list small and (hopefully) manageable today!

To do
Put away washing
Declutter bathroom
Declutter ensuite
Mop kitchen floor

CHBitchy Tue 14-May-13 06:46:27

Urgh it all fell apart last night. Didn't end up hitting bed until nearly 2am in the end. Any day where you are running late before 6am is a bad day!!!

feetheart Tue 14-May-13 07:09:35

Morning all - welcome to new people. It does work, honest. I might have been here since nearly the beginning and not yet have a show home <<sob>> but I know what I have to do to keep it 'reasonable' and where to start when it all goes belly-up and the chat on here keeps me sane smile

Busy week again this week as we I try to pack for camping holiday on Saturday. Unfortunately DS and I have to come back Mon-Fri as we found out last Friday afternoon during a polite 'we aren't going to be here the week before half-term' chat with his teacher that he has his Yr2 SATS that week. It's a complete bummer and although I hate the whole testing regime with a passion the Head is very focused on raising standards at school and has done a great job so far. However I know she won't have any flexibility re DS and his SATS and us taking him out anyway would ruin any relationship with her (and we have over 4 years to go here) so against my better judgment DS and I will be here sad We will head back Friday lunchtime and have until Bank Holiday Monday but it really won't be the same. Am now planning lots of nice things for DS and I to do during the week to make us feel better.

So today:
- All up and out
- Morning routine
- Shopping for surrogate granny up the road
- Contact insurance people re event and see what's going on
- Contact Building Regs people to see if they got the details I sent
- Re-plan dinner as DD has friend over
- Reading at school
- DS and DH to Beavers
- Ironing

That's more than enough and even includes some Flying. Let's see how I get on though smile

Have a good day everyone.

fireandblood Tue 14-May-13 09:00:28

Morning! Definitly going to make an effort to check in here every day and writing my own wee list on here helps!

To do
- Kids washed and dress
- put wash on and dryer on
- make beds (dp in bed when we got up) need to get in habit before going downstairs though
- put clothes away
- 15 mins cleaning in bathroom
- declutter downstairs toilet of shoes
- hoover upstairs
- write list of needs for bathroom products
- plan dinner

ds 3 first sports day today so will be going to that all afternoon and dp has half day from work to come with us.

Trazzletoes Tue 14-May-13 09:22:32

DD is back at nursery after the chicken pox scare.. . DS took it upon himself to start re-toilet training yesterday evening. It's great and I'm delighted but he still can't walk so manoeuvring pull ups off a 17kg child who won't bear weight on his legs is no mean feat!

DM is entertaining him today and so my focus is tidying the playroom (still after the horror of last week's play date!!!). Phew. Might try to throw out old smellies in the bathroom too.

Not much to announce ta da wise but have managed routines, including catching up on the bits I missed last night all of them

Going to throw away the empties in the bathroom on the way to bed and try to get a reasonably early night. Got an ecological impact assessment for a wind scheme to write first though so I'd better crack on <yawn>

Castlelough Tue 14-May-13 23:13:56

Oh no Bitchy I left you an empty - that will never do! Here! brew brew brew

Been ill, done nothing since Friday. DH was a star yesterday and did a grand job of sweeping and cleaning the ground floor. (Having a DH with OCD tendencies certainly has its advantages! wink )

Maybe today I will manage a sweep of the top floor - DS and DD4 are responsible for middle floor as this is their rooms.

It's too hot to be ill!!! I feel exhausted just being awake at the moment.

superfluouscurves Wed 15-May-13 07:46:45

Thanks Castle I'm totally fine now thanks, but dd is still ailing [doc this pm] You are doing a great job of links/round-ups btw!

Oh no, poor you PA, that sounds grim, hope you recover quickly. Take it steady x

[Brew] for Pushme to help with after-effects of late night EIA!

Hope everyone else OK. It's my birthday today, so am up with a lark trying to finish office admin and put this house in to some sort of order so I can justify watching racing from York this afternoon wink. Usually, really, really enjoy birthdays but this is a bit of a low key event tbh (a) because dh away (flying back today but anticipate him being fairly grumpy with fatigue on arrival) (b) dd still lethargic/has laryngitis-type thing (c) it's a fairly horrific one before a major significant one ifyswim which means I only have twelve mths left in which to fulfil 903 lifelong dreams shock Had better get a move on wink...

Ta da:
morning routine, inc s&s, wm, dw, rabbits
cut swathes of lilac for house, slip on wet grass, land heavily on bum grin
laundry x 2
prep laundry room for fortnightly ironing lady
45 mins admin

To do:
more laundry
dining table hot spot
put clean clothing away
tidy kitchen/quick clean
clean inside microwave
quick tidy of play room
quick tidy sitting room
make main bed
bit of boudoir sorting
sort coats for dry cleaning and those for storage
dd to doc
Channel 4 racing
Thai take-out + DVD my choice for once

Have a good anti-procrastination day everyone!

CHBitchy Wed 15-May-13 08:35:39

Happy Birthday SC!!!!!!

Happy Birthday, SC! thanks Hope you have a lovely day despite inauspicioius circs!! Enjoy the racing and the Thai. smile

Get well soon PA - guess it's too hot for a cuppa. Need an [iced drink] emoticon!

Also need a list... To do:
Check Scout shop opening times
Get Beavers jumper
Pay in cheques
Sweep & mop
Admin stuff
Sort out nails
Make pastry
27 fling boogie
Dinner & kitchen

Not sure how much will get done. Feeling very CBA so need a good anti-procrastination kick up the bum...

Apologies for going AWOL again, I seem to have been absent more than present recently, but I am still lurking and trying to keep up with the Flying.

Happy Birthday SC!

Feet - what a pain about the SATS. DD has hers next week too, and it is all very low key now at our school, I doubt I would even know it was happening if there weren't a few attitude problems that her teacher is desperate to iron out in time for next week.

Welcome to all the new people!

I must go and get on. Giving blood this afternoon and it always wipes me out so I want to get ahead and not have too much to do this evening, especially as I have got to take the DCs for haircuts after school, get DD to Brownies and back and DH is going to be out.

I tell you what, my DH has turned over such a new leaf these last 6 months. We've had "words" on a few occasions which got as far as me telling him I couldn't carry on the way things are and he seems to have finally taken it on board, he is being much more pro-active about doing his share without being nagged and just being a lot tidier. He used to leave clean and dirty clothes all over the floor, dirty cups and plates in the lounge, piles of receipts and change everywhere, his swimming bag in the corner of the hall for weeks, now he is much, much better. He still leaves it all but he does sort it within the day, rather than leaving it indefinitely, such an improvement.

Having the mother of all storms here for the past 2 hours!!! Literally house shaking! Of course, the kitchen is now flooded so I cant cook tea. hmm Not too sure what to do and how to get around the issue. Need to find an answer quick as this is just the start of rainy season, so plenty more days like today ahead!

Check Scout shop opening times
Get Beavers jumper
Pay in cheques
Sweep & mop
Admin stuff
--Sort out nails-
Make pastry
27 fling boogie
Dinner & kitchen

Hmm, you'll notice that 27 fling boogie aside, it's the non-flying items crossed off...

newbiebaby Wed 15-May-13 17:03:29

SilveryMoon Wed 15-May-13 21:44:16

Evening all.
Not read the thread, but will do now.
Happy birthday sc flowers
I had to do a cross-zone job today. Cleared out the food cupboard in the kitchen because there was a terrible smell coming from there blush I found a bag of potatoes behind some cereal boxes that was all swollen, wet and growing god knows what blush blush which means during kitchen week, I can have a session back in the boys bedroom I suppose.

Just settling down now with a blanket a bottle glass of wine and a pack of chocolate biscuits, waiting for Grey's Anatomy.

SilveryMoon Wed 15-May-13 21:51:30

PA Hope you’re all ok there, sounds awful sad
who knows that’s great re your dh. Mine is also improving. Makes life just that little bit easier doesn’t it?

Castlelough Wed 15-May-13 22:05:39

Hope you are having a lovely day, that you got to see the racing, and that the Thai was yummy!!!
Have a movie recommendation for you - presuming you've seen Sea Biscuit, you have to see Secretariat! It's another horse racing movie - you will LOVE it! Just filmed in the last couple of years but I think it went straight to DVD. Is excellent!

<throws impromptu party in the naughty corner, in honour of SC 's birthday!!>

Castlelough Wed 15-May-13 22:06:34

Will be back with the links shortly....

superfluouscurves Wed 15-May-13 22:12:53

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone! Much appreciated smile!! [Pours a few snifters ... declares naughty corner bar "open"!]

Crikey PA you really are battling the elements - hope all OK - and that you are feeling better

Good luck tomorrow Narky! Knock 'em dead!

Silvery that reminds me of the time I had the dubious pleasure of staying at the in-laws London house when they weren't there - heard a loud buzzing sound coming from a kitchen drawer - found unopened plastic bag of putrid, suppurating potatoes with cloud of flies inside fighting trying to get out... [yeeeuurrrrkkkk!]

Well done for giving blood Whoknows - hope you don't feel too wiped out. Great to hear about your dh getting on board!!

You may not be Flying but your list is an extremely energetic one Blue!

Big wing flaps to Bitchy Castle Newbie and everyone else!

superfluouscurves Wed 15-May-13 22:23:01

xposts Castle - thank you/merci/dank u wel - you beat me to the bar!!

Cheers everyone! grin [slurp] [hic]

[Thanks for film recommendations - have been meaning to watch Seabiscuit but have never got around to it - must do so! Will definitely get hold of Secretariat too. (No doubt the story of 'Black Caviar' will be featured in a DVD soon!) Have had my nose buried in a few racing biogs that dsis bought me for my b'day : Dickie Hughes, Paul Nicholls, AP of course but by far the best of all is Ruby's!!! ]

[SC grabs riding crop, turns up music and attempts creaking Gangnam Style-type dance moves]

[floor collapses]

Evening all,

Ipad still won't load this thread, so a quick post on the main computer before I disappear upstairs.

Morning routine / school run including pass on an unwanted item via FB selling pages plus stay to help with reading.
Home and two loads of washing, few bits of email admin etc MN
Bagged up 5 carrier bags of stuff to take to charity shop
Put some large empty storage boxes (the contents of which have been decluttered) into the loft
Into town with my charity shop stuff
Get key cut (been on to do list for 3 years) blush
Buy small plastic storage boxes for DCs craft stuff
Give blood - went fine BTW but has left me tired
Little potter round the charity shops (I love to collect things, but this goes against the decluttering principles, however I have been inspired to start a button collection by a thread on MN and am now happily poking round charity shops and buying tiny bags of buttons)
Home and start sorting craft stuff
School run
Back into town with DCs to get their hair cut (never easy)
Home and make dinner
Take DD to Brownies
Supervise DS (9) creating a Powerpoint presentation for school and realise he knows at least as much about PP as me
Fetch DD back from Brownies
DCs bath and hairwash and bed
Watch the Apprentice and do a bit of crocheting

Off to bed now. PA - hope the storm has abated. Silvery - yes, helpful DH definitely makes life easier and a bit more harmonious too.

Is it too late to join the party in the naughty corner? 6am here and just surfacing for the day. <looks and sees lots of wreckage, empty bottles, cake crumbs and makes a quick exit - someone else can clear up your mess! >

Thanks for all your good wishes, one and all, I am definitely feeling better, sun is shining again and kitchen is once again useable. I need to get in their before today's rains and move a load of stuff that was sodden yesterday and find new drier places for it to live. I think I need an inside kitchen for when it rains and an outside kitchen for when it is so hot. Or maybe I just need to time my cooking better.

Language study in a bit, then day off. Might see if I can have a hair wash and head massage, which is soooooo relaxing and I nearly fall asleep each time i have had t done.

1 load of washing in.
not too sure what else I might accomplish today, cant get my brain around it yet, i will see how it pans out....

Huge flap of wings to everyone.

Castlelough Thu 16-May-13 00:12:18

Morning all. A belated happy birthday to SC.

PA - hope you are feeling better today and that there are no more floods.

Have had my DM staying, which means the house is tidier than usual because she helps out smile. Also, my fortnightly cleaner is coming today, so house will have a thorough clean.

Have some sort of bug (I think it's probably the one DS2 had), but went to sleep at 9pm last night and didn't wake up till 7, so that has helped. Looked like one of those pictures that have been artificially aged this morning though - unfortunately, the bags and lines were real sad. I thought extra sleep was meant to make you look better confused.

To do :

Washing up
Kitchen surfaces
Swish and swipe in bathroom
Washing on
Room rescues throughout house
Home ed
School run

Hope you all have a good day.

GoingGoingGoth Thu 16-May-13 10:10:42

There's a hole in the seal. Have just looked up how to replace the seal, but it's too complicated for my non-DIY brain, so will have to have it replaced at unnecessary expense.

wine anyone? <opens second bottle>

Other than that, have had an ok day and house is looking presentable. Really need to tackle today's mission, but will have to put it off till tomorrow now as I'm going to have an early night again.

Narky - hope you hear good news from that parent very soon.

Urgh, feel like walking death today. lingering migraine. Ds is creating over school. Not really surprised but cba with it. And I really should have a list and get something done.

superfluouscurves Fri 17-May-13 09:15:12

Hi all. Thanks again for yet more birthday good wishes.

Will join you in 'recovery corner' Bitchy. Hope you feel better soon and take it steady.

Spent night before last with d & v (typical - have had no stomach bugs in years and then get two horrible ones within the space of about 10 wks). Wish I could say it was down to birthday over-indulgence but only had half a glass of rosé! (Dh had flown back valiantly from Middle East overnight but his tooth fell out on the plane - second time this has happened - so we only had time for a brief lunch, then he spent most of time at dentist, then he fell asleep .... . Then he was kept up all night by me again grin ) Spent the day yesterday a bit pale and ginger but much better. Going now to wipe down all loos, sinks, taps, and door handles with Dettol to hopefully prevent dd and dh from getting it.

Fortunately, have kept pretty much on top of ground floor - so that is reasonably respectable. And fortnightly ironing lady came on Wed morning so laundry fairly up-to-date. Dh has made a hash of kitchen but cleaner hopefully coming today (for the first time in a month). So she can deal with that. Haven't dared look in dd's play room ... .

Hope you are feeling better too Doris

Sorry about the washing machine Toffee what a pain! Hope you are OK (hate to say it but extreme fatigue was how my bug started - here's hoping it's not the same one and you feel better soon!)

Glad to hear the meeting went well Narky

Welcome back ComradeJing

Thanks for links Whoknows (don't worry about it Castle you are doing great!)

PA what do the locals do (just being nosy!) in terms of cooking? Do they cook inside or outside or on a porch or something?

Huge waves to Castle Silvery Fireandblood Goth Feetheart Lplate Ellie Newbie Blue Pushme Trazzles and everyone I've missed!

ToffeeWhirl Fri 17-May-13 09:39:37

SC - sorry you and DH have had such a difficult time. Hope you are on the mend today - D&V is such a miserable thing to have. I'm not feeling sick, thankfully, just aching and a bit wheezy. Had a good night's sleep last night.

We are visiting a school for DS1 for the second time this afternoon. I never thought this day would come, but he is interested in going (he has a friend there who loves it). There are many hurdles to jump first, not least overcoming his anxieties (he hasn't even been able to visit it yet!), but it's a good sign that he wants to try something new.

DH is trying to mend the hole in the washing machine seal with superglue hmm.

superfluouscurves Fri 17-May-13 09:47:49

How exciting for your ds1 Toffee! Hope the visit goes well! And good to hear you had a bit of decent shut-eye.

ToffeeWhirl Fri 17-May-13 09:54:18

Thanks, SC.

AT LAST! It's Friday!
A very unproductive week here, but I resolve to make amends!
OH has bought a wooden toy box from a charity shop - big bargain! which will swallow up a big pile of 'stuff', and that makes me VERY happy!!

DW loaded
up, fed and out

to do tonight/this weekend
DW on
clothes away
dust everywhere
both bathrooms
change my bed
make cakes
wax legs (swimming on Sunday, for my sins!)
lots more

Have a productive day and a great weekend xx

Swanhilda Fri 17-May-13 12:44:49

hi, some cleaning has been done today, as the prescence of the heroic cleaning lady spurs me into action. It seems to take two of us to tackle half the house sad and I have created an enormous pile of dirty washing in the process. I will use list later to remind me what we achieved...

Kittens were discovered to be using a certain manky curtain as a litter tray, despite the official litter tray being at hand, which caused a certain amount of hilarity [not] this morning. However, as a seasoned cat owner I am phlegmatic about these things grin. Luckily it was in the playroom. I think the time has come for them to go to their new homes....First one off on Monday

Toffee that is very exciting about Ds1 showing an interest. I think half the battle is not getting upset at thought of something new, even if you end up not actually doing it. We are still on waiting list for ds2 preferred school, but he is slowly getting resigned to going to the second choice school (which is ds1's school). He was in a panic about it earlier; he is so different from his older brother who was tremendously keen on idea of secondary (if less keen on reality hmm

dusted picture rails in dcs rooms x 2
changed all sheets in dcs rooms
put all clothes away
cleaning lady did ironing
cleaned up 6 cat messes!!! yuk
put out rubbish
put out milkbottles
recycling kept in line
washed curtain
paid elec bill
talked to dr AGAIN about referral...dratted referrals take weeks and weeks,a nd then the dr loses the info, usually and you are back to beginning again [rats] I am beginning to think it is better to go in guns blazing from beginning

SC hope you feeling better and Dh's tooth is preventing him from doing too much further culinary exploration
Feet enjoy camping, and a bore about SATs. This has been a rather pleasant week with Yr 6 Sats though, no homework ironically...I don't care what they get, I've decided it is native talent or nothing.

Good luck with the school visit Toffee. Hope it all goes well.

Today has been utterly thrown out by suddenly having to get the PC to the repair shop AGAIN. Seriously hacked off with this machine now.

Will attempt the house bleugh this afternoon though.

Big waves to all. [Leaves tray of brew on the bar.]

Toffee such a huge step for DS1!! Just take it a little bit at a time, but you must be so pleased! I am grin for you both.

SC - well, the Cambodians do meals VERY differently! Firstly they do all cook outside just using small fires that they light themselves, no stoves or anything, but they eat their largest meal of the day for breakfast, which is when is is dry. <sensible> then I suppose if it is raining by the late afternoon they just have a bowl of cold leftover rice - they have rice with every meal, 3 times a day and mountains of it!! When I get home I never want to see another grain of rice..... EVER!!!! The pots of various rice dishes are left to bubble and warm all throughout the day and dished up when needed.
Generally breakfast - rice porridge - disgusting dishwater looking bowl of slop with yesterday leftover rice meat, fish and veg - certainly nothing that looks appetizing at 5am!!!
Then at about 11 - a mountain of rice with small bits of BBQed , meats, fish or veg - no fridges, so they have to cook it after buying it in the market in the morning, before the 40 degree heat makes it rancid!!
Evening meal - lunch time leftovers with water added and stewed all afternoon to make it into a soup, sort of <looks very unappetising!!!> then this is watered down again and left overnight to be the porridge for breakfast.

I am dreaming of McDonald's I tell you!! Proper roast dinners........ slow cooked lamb.......proper sausages and mash........ oh my, I will be 3 stone heavier by the time I come back here at the end of July!!!!

All these thoughts of food and I have lost all thoughts of housework!!

ToffeeWhirl Fri 17-May-13 16:12:58

Thanks for the good wishes, all those fledglings who know my long (and arduous) back story!

The school is really lovely and I don't see how DS1 could fail to settle there. They are used to getting children who have been unable to cope in mainstream state schools and are very laid back about it. The classes are tiny and all the children seemed very relaxed and happy. And it's possible that DS1 may be able to join a class with a friend who is already there, which would be perfect.

However, we mustn't jump ahead of ourselves. Now we know it's a good school for him, we have to get him there for a visit and see if he fits in there. Supposing they don't want him (eek!)? I can't help but be excited about it though.

Swan - I really hope your DS gets the school that he wants. It's so frustrating waiting and not knowing.

Jdub - great news about the toybox! Am all in favour of chucking stuff in boxes!

Blue - how annoying about your PC. Hope it's mended soon and cheaply.

PA - thanks for your kind words. We will definitely be taking it very, very slowly. DS1 is still panicking at the thought of it, even though he is interested in going. We will have to start with very short visits and gradually build it up for him so that he can go in September. Am looking forward to chucking all the home ed books in boxes and enjoying an extended summer holiday instead!

It's really interesting to hear about Cambodians' eating styles. I'm not surprised you have gone off rice though!

Not much Flying done today, thanks to our school visit, followed by a trip to the supermarket, then the school run. DS1's best friend is staying over tonight, so am about to start cooking a large casserole for us all.

Looking forward to wine o'clock.

Toffee - that's brilliant news about the school, hope the visit today went well. I'm starting to ponder secondary school options for DS as well (he's in Yr 4 now, so a while to go but it will go quickly).

SC - oh, poor you, D&V twice so quickly is awful.

Not much Flying here been out all day and off out again soon.

NarkyNamechanger Fri 17-May-13 17:32:06

Interested to hear about Cambodian meals, PA. Big breakfast makes so much sense really. I love rice but I guess I'd be craving anything but by now too.

Sorry to hear the job didn't work out, Narky.

Big wooden toy box sounds great, jdub.

I did manage to get some stuff done in the end...
Ta da!
Bag to charity shop
Laundry done and dry
Big hotspot cupboard sorted out
Loads of junk removed from our bedroom
Lazy tea with boys (ie no washing up!)
DW loaded
Worked out how to get email on my phone while PC in shop (yay!)

DH is out tonight at a charity auction organised by somebody at his work. It's a good cause but all the lots are quite low value so hoping he won't spend much!

SilveryMoon Fri 17-May-13 21:31:57

Trazzles That is the best news!!!! Am so so happy for Joe, you and your family. Can’t imagine the joy you must all be feeling. Raising a glass to Joe wine <cheers>
Oh Narky sad sorry about the contract
Toffee new school sounds good, hope he likes it.

<waves> to everyone else. grin
Not much FLYing here today, but tomorrow is another day.
Girl cat has left a horrid scent on ds1's bed. She s definitely getting 'done' next week.

So, off topic, I have decided to study for a degree. With the OU. I need to decide what to do.
In the running is Health and Social Care with Children and Families, Childhood and Youth or Humanities with Religious Studies.
I have no idea what to do. I currently work as a SEN TA, so the childhood and youth one would probably be the most relevant. Health and Social Care has always been an interest to me. I did it for my GNVQ and I have a level 4 diploma in it. Religious Studies just interests me, but so does History.
But then I don't know what I'd do with a degree, I am quite happy as a TA, I love my job, but at the same time, I don't want to do something I'd never have a use for.
Decisions decisions

Trazzletoes Fri 17-May-13 21:34:31

Thank you!!!

Suffice to say, flying has been limited this week due to nerves and will most likely be limited tomorrow due to hangover grin

Castlelough Fri 17-May-13 22:03:51

Well I got through a bit of laundry today, and have tidied around, but that's about it! Am off for the day tomorrow to catch up with some friends and stay the night in a lovely hotel! Really looking forward to it. Hoping to post the links in the morning before I leave internet obliging!!!

Just wondering, as we are halfway through May now shock, has somebody already volunteered to lead the thread in June??

Blue You are on fire! Great list, lots of decluttering – let’s hope DH doesn’t bring a whole load more home with him!
Oh Narky I’m sorry that you didn’t succeed in getting the new client. Hopefully something even better is just around the corner. brew
Toffee that’s fantastic news about finding such a nice school for your DS. Fingers crossed now that you can prep him for happily starting in September. I have so much admiration for all you home-schoolers. You deserve a bit of a good break now!grin
WhoKnows hope you’ve enjoyed your day out. smile
PA They certainly like their rice in Cambodia! No wonder you are looking forward to McDonalds!
Trazzles Fantastic news about such good results for Joe! wine bear *S
Swan I had to grin at your kitten story! They are a constant source of amusement, aren’t they?! I was chatting to a man who lives on my lane yesterday, and happened to glance past him in at his front porch. There was MY cat sitting inside looking out quite happily. So I said “Oh I see you’ve met my cat!” He replies “No, no. That’s MY cat!” Hilarious! This man who lives less than 100m from my house thinks he owns my cat!!! What could I say?! He was adamant!!! So I just passed it off and kept going! Now I know where my cat heads to when I leave for work in the mornings!!!
Happy weekend JDub! Isn’t DH great to pick up the toybox!
Oh dear SC, Bitchy and Doris I really hope you ladies are feeling better! Mind yourselves! flowers
Hope you are okay Silvery?
Trying to figure out who ComradeJing is – are you a namechanger?!
Goth Hope the long shifts at work are going well.
Waves to Engels , LPlate , Elliepac , Just , Honu , Pushme, MrsBodger , Foundachopinlizt , Newbie , and Fireandblood.

Castlelough Fri 17-May-13 22:12:17

Waves to Fudge - welcome!

Ooh Silvery just be sure you take your time and choose somthing that you really, really want to do! I wouldn't worry about it being relevant to what you are doing at the moment. I would go and study something you really want to - as it requires so much input of time, and money! I know! I have just finished studying a Certificate in Equine Science by distance learning - It took me 6 years!!! And if I hadn't LOVED the subject matter it would have killed me! (I'm a primary teacher btw, so totally irrelevant to my work!!!!)

Castlelough Fri 17-May-13 22:16:29

Silvery I should also add that I am the queen of beginning things and not finishing them! Began an M.Ed., completed the first year, deferred the second year and absconded to Australia for three years blush. Finally graduated with a Post Grad dip, instead of a Masters....
Then I started a Speech and Drama diploma (still paying off the loan for the fees blush - aced the performance exam and still can't bring myself to sit the written paper. blush Also completed several Millinery courses and can still not finish any of the hats I've this is the perspective I am coming from when I say to choose wisely!!!!!

ToffeeWhirl Fri 17-May-13 22:17:29

Castle - that's hilarious about your cat! He is certainly a survivor!

GoingGoingGoth Fri 17-May-13 22:23:34

Just back from work and what fantastic Trazzle news, sat here with a massive grin (and sore feet)

Been a lovely day here, so got a few jobs done this morning and then walked to work (3 miles) did loads of 'gardening' there, mainly clearing moss but I filled 6 bin bags, and then walked home! So my MFP calorie count for the day is brilliant and I'm going to treat myself to some Ben & Jerry core icecream grin

Big waves to everyone, hope you all have a great weekend, I'm working both days and it's DH's birthday tomorrow but I'm sure I'll fit some cake in.

SilveryMoon Sat 18-May-13 03:45:24

Thanks for the input Castle
I know what you're saying. I'm 31 so will be 37/8 when I complete as would do it part time through distance learning so it definitely has to be something that will hold my interest.
I am keen on child development etc and the factors that go into producing who we are iyswim.
Had another look and the degree for childhood and youth studies has a lot of the same modules as the health and social care so that might be the one for me.
Other things I like I think will be too hard like English literature and language, but history and religious studies interest me too, but do they enough?
I'm in the middle of a cache level 3 in supporting teaching and learning so need to finish that first so have some time to decide.
I spoke to the ou about student loan and I'd qualify. The payment plan seems too good to say no (nothing for 4 years then only pay back if I earn more than 21k and even then the instalments are more than reasonable) so there's nothing to lose.
I wasn't ready to study at school or at college/uni age but I am now. I want to better myself and want to prove to myself that I can achieve whatever I want to. Think it'd be quite empowering.
I think I'll speak to one of their advisors. I know there's the option of an open degree where I could incorporate different areas but that might seem indecisive.

Go goth with all that walking! And well done for treating yourself. Enjoy dh birthday

Honu Sat 18-May-13 07:16:26

Trazzles I cried at your news. So happy for you.

Silvery I know you love your job as a TA but it may be that later on in life you would want to be a teacher so you can organise your class / lessons the way you want or do something else entirely and a degree makes all these things much more possible, so really go for it. Have a look at some of the modules first because I did some OU modules some years ago, just out of interest (and before they were so expensive) and found them very variable. Some I thought I would love I was very disappointed in and others were great.

Have just deleted half this post as I decided it would out me. Suffice it to say I am a r/l stressed woman. Is the expresso still in the naughty corner and I think I need a tension-relieving bashy pillow.

Morning all smile

trazzle I cried a bit too smile
Very hopeful news for you ds toffee I really hope it works out for him - sounds promisind smile

I need to do all the flying haven't done this week. Main jobs are:
Detail clean bathroom and ensuite
Housebleugh part 1
Wash bed sheets
Buy wedding shoes for dc
Go to farm shop
Fling stuff and go to tip

SilveryMoon Sat 18-May-13 09:06:59

Honu Hope you're ok, not nice to be so stressed so early in the morning!
Thanks for your thoughts. I will definitely 100% do it, that much has been decided smile not sure I'll want to be a teacher, I don't think I'd be very good at it, and there is just so much paper work and box ticking to be done, not sure that's what I want.
Since I came out of my last career (pub manager), I wanted to be a social worker, but kind of changed my mind, it would be too hard, I can't switch off and would take too much home with me.
I also like the idea of pupil protection/welfare roles and family support/home to school liaison.
I might see if I can have a chat with my headteacher about it.

Todays list:
Strip beds
Clear breakfast
shower and dress
swish and swipe
feed cats
rubbish out
menu plan and write shopping list
food shopping
clean glass shelves
mirrors/tv/units etc
clear bags and purse
clear car
wipe fridge down
make next weeks sandwiches and freeze
re-dress beds
hoover cat beds
check diary
defrost for tomorrows dinner
lay out clothes
stray items away
change oil in chip pan (we don't often have chips, but dp wants steak and chips tonight, the oil looks done)

What have I forgotten???? Well, that'll keep me busy for a while anyway. Must also take the boys over to the park so I can read my book they can burn off some energy wink

Castlelough Sat 18-May-13 09:21:36

Posting the links now as I am off for the day and night to catch up with old friends on a girlie hotel night away! yay! So no flying! --to
make a change from the rest of the week hmm--

Silvery I think you will find going back to do your degree very empowering! It is tougher in ways as an adult, as there are more drags on your energy and resources, but then again, when you study as an adult it is really rewarding! Great for your self-esteem too! Best of luck with your decisions. You seem to have given it lots of thought. smile

<installs a state of the art espresso machine in the naughty corner for Honu at speed!>

Waves to everyone, I won't be back with personals until tomorrow!

Trazzles what lovely news! So delighted for you all! smile And you so deserve some good news for a change x bear bear bear

A very warm welcome to Fudge74

Blue sorry about your ongoing computer hassles!

Jdub it is amazing what a difference one suitable bit of storage can have!

Goodness PA you are stalwart - fascinating about the food - don't think I would be up for rice porridge with leftover fish at 5am!! Healthy to eat main meal of the day at breakfast I suppose. We don't know we are born though do we? Virtually anything we fancy on hand at the supermarket and a continuous supply of electricity with which to store and cook it. I can imagine the lack of variety being v. v. difficult to cope with. Hats off to you.

If it makes you feel any better Swan it seems to take the combined efforts of me and my cleaning lady to tackle only a fifth of the house here not helped by the clutter blush!! Hope you get the referral you want in the end. And 'yes' to hell with exam stress ... you can literally feel the pre-exam gloom, stress and tension descending upon dc across the land here sad

Toffee great the school visit went well (sounds fab) and, as Swan says, whatever happens, it's great that your ds1 is open to the idea of it. Hope all goes well and he feels able to 'dip a toe in and try' as it were x

Sorry to hear your disappointing news Narky - it is their loss thoughx

Silvery good luck with your subject choice (and with your mammoth list!)

Thanks for links and have a great girls night Castle! (I like the combination of speech and drama, equine science and hats ... you are born for Ascot!! grin) Arf at shared confused cat-ownership. They certainly know where to get their paws bread buttered! grin Re: thread - think I may have volunteered for June (can't remember!) but can't do July and August owing to travel so would make sense. Only prob is, a bit below par atm,may have to have 2 minor operations in June but not sure atm. Happy to do it though unless anyone else has burning ambitions in that direction and no-one minds a couple of potential absences. Sept also a possibility.

Goth your work day certainly sounds v. healthy - so great not to be sitting in front of a screen

[extra strong espresso for Honu]

Waves to Pushme and everyone else ...

Battling migraine-type headache here (if it's not one thing it's another) so no Flying ... just filling the washing machine and trying to keep everything on track.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!!

CHBitchy Sun 19-May-13 03:36:56

RL has kicked off in the worst possible way again. I am fed up with it all right now.

ToffeeWhirl Sun 19-May-13 03:40:30

Sorry Bitchy. Am up if you want to pm me and have a moan!

CHBitchy Sun 19-May-13 13:20:43

right today is going to be a kick ass kinda day. done family fun yesterday which wasn't so much fun but was family orientated. Ds is in a good mood today. I have been the lucky recipient of 2 cups of coffee in bed and been allowed a lie in. grin But he is now asking to borrow the computer and as I have a mountain of washing to do because I haven't done any this last week I think a productive day might be what is called for to distract from other stuff.

Ta da
ds to take his washing downstairs
ds to empty his bin
drink 2 cups of coffee
fb friends cull and block session (very therapeutic!)
check internet stuff (twitter/fb/mn/email)
set computer up for ds to use.

there is so much that can be done. I am going to start with a bath for sore muscles and the just slowly work my way through everything until it feels like I am getting in control.

Is it just me that has lego men as test pilots for paper aeroplane designs flying around the house?

ToffeeWhirl Sun 19-May-13 13:41:15

Goodness, it's quiet on here today.

We have Lego and paper aeroplanes, Bitchy, but the two haven't been combined. DS2 does sometimes use live ants as test pilots though grin.

My DS2 has also just made me a hot drink and carried it through to me because he knows I'm not feeling well. In his case, it is a cup of lukewarm tea without milk, which I will have to drink because otherwise he'll be upset.

Not dressed because I have felt rough today (chest infection, I think) and kept falling asleep. So the washing I was going to do hasn't happened. However, we are going out for tea with friends this afternoon and I am determined to go, so will dose myself up now. Thank god for make up.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Trazzletoes Sun 19-May-13 14:05:33

Bitchy hope life sorts itself out soon.

Toffee get well soon!

I'm cleaning the kitchen floor to try and stop slug influx. We were meant to be going to a family fun day today but that was skippered by an ambulance ride to a&e this morning for DD (massive over-reaction by 111, but at least she was seen and treated and it could have been a lot worse).

NB. 111 is the medical number. Not 101. That's the Police. Mmm-hmm. Oops!

superfluouscurves Sun 19-May-13 14:17:01

It's a surfeit of hair clips, chews, and Playmobil horses here Toffee and Bitchy....

Hope you are ok and glad you are feeling a bit more chipper this morning Bitchy flowers
[Looks sternly over pince nez - make sure you nip that chest infection in the bud Toffee and don't let it develop in to pneumonia - take it steady flowers

Having a lovely, lazy weekend with lovely sunshine. DD excelled herself singing two solos at Confirmation mass yesterday evening, in front of Papal Nuncio and 80-odd parents.

Pentecost public holiday on Monday. Can't believe how many public holidays there are this May over here. It's madness! DD only at school Tues and half day Wed and then is off on school trip Thurs/Fri for which we have just forked out Euros118 for sleeping bag, underlay and rucksack, honestly a hotel room would have been cheaper.

Wierdly, owing to complete lack of any pressures, felt full of energy and decided to get stuck in to a bit of tidaying/decluttering while forcing persuading dd to do her hwk. (Dh has gone to office for a couple of hours to catch up after trip.)

Spent one hour doing general "zero tolerance" tidy up downstairs. [If I allow one magazine or toy or sock to remain on sofa, floor, or table ... I turn around 30 mins later and a huge stack of junk has been piled on top] Another half hour sorting kitchen. Another half hour in laundry.

Somehow, decluttering with no other deadlines, school pressures etc is almost enjoyable!!

Hope you are all enjoying your weekends! Big encouraging wing flaps to all!

superfluouscurves Sun 19-May-13 14:19:07

x posts Trazzles Crikey, sorry to hear aobut your extremely stressful morning, that's the last thing you need right now. Glad your dd OK though. Hope you can get some r & r today even if it wasn't the kind you had planned x

I'm on my phone in the park so won't make this a long post, just wanted to say to Silvery that I am doing an OU degree and am quite happy to chat with you about it, will pm you later.

On my own with DD for a change which is nice, I took her to a party this morning a couple of towns away from home and we have befn pottering back via various shops and now a park.

fireandblood Sun 19-May-13 16:07:02

Hi grin

Im still here but not been on since friday morning and so many posts to catch up with!

I have done nothing in house really, friday I had a wedding in evening then yesterday all day was a write off as hungover then I was working last night til 6 this morning. Been in bed since 8 and just woke up at 3

I'm waiting on tesco shop coming then back into work for 6pm. My babies and dh have disappeared so would have been perfect day to get stuff done hmm but will get stuck back in tomorrow.

Hope everyone has had a nice weekend!!

DorisShutt Sun 19-May-13 16:27:56

<wanders in wearing sunglasses and a pale expression>

Hungover. Soooo badly. envy First time in about six years.

On the upside I decluttered by smashing a few bowls while pissed. Glass everywhere. That was fun... not hmm

So, no flying done this weekend other than basic maintenance (very quietly carried out.

Back to normal tomorrow!

CHBitchy Sun 19-May-13 17:03:36

grin doris hoping that I get to avoid the hangover tomo. I have taken the advice of a good friend and stocked up on chocolate and vodka for tonight. I have no early start tomo so that is a bonus. I am just pottering with laundry. first load in the machine. sorted a few bits out of rl which were niggling.

DorisShutt Sun 19-May-13 17:38:42

Good luck with that Bitchy

By the state of my head, I think I may have had yours!

No personals as haven't read thread yet - so sorry just treading water at the mo!
List for tomorrow and hopefully can schedule in a read of the thread ;)

Dress to shoes
Dd to nursery
Look after ds
Sort wash out
Sort mail order returns out
Book oven clean
10 min declutter each room
Read mumsnet thread

Have a good day tomorrow everyone especially narky- managed to read that bit!

Evening all,

Happy Birthday for tomorrow Narky - enjoy Ikea.

Bitchy - hope things are OK.

SC- sounds as though you are back on top form.

The last few days have been quite hectic, went out on Thurs and Fri nights (Thurs night to a quiz evening, Fri night to a Robbie Williams tribute act, which was better than I was expecting TBH). Family fun yesterday included a lovely long walk in the afternoon, DS never used to be keen on walking but Cubs seems to have had a positive impact in this respect and he suggested a much longer route than I had planned.

Flying wise - DH is much more likely to take over the routine daily stuff at weekends now, which is brilliant as I can get on with a bit of decluttering and tidying. He has also cleared, tidied and pressure washed the patio and wooden patio furniture so it looks much nicer, I can't believe I used to do it with a scrubbing brush before, love the pressure washer. I have sorted out some big piles of clutter into one for each of the upstairs rooms to be put away tomorrow, changed and washed the DCs bed sheets and am about to go and menu plan.

Night all.

GoingGoingGoth Sun 19-May-13 23:10:51

Woo-hoo! Work done for 4 days! Now to get on with some real work- Flying!

Only scanned the thread so Happy Birthday for tomorrow Narky

Will catch up properly tomorrow, laundry is the priority tomorrow.

CHBitchy Mon 20-May-13 02:26:39

Yeah am ok. just need sleep and focus. the strong drink helped earlier. chilled me out a bit. still drinking so there is time for it to all go down hill yet. And there is a fox outside who wants to meet a water bomb. if I could be arsed to go fill one up to throw in the meantime am working on a plan. I had forgot the rule of a strong drink to aid thinking on complicated stuff. Student days are far to far behind me nowadays. yet to decide if this is a good or a bad thing

CHBitchy Mon 20-May-13 04:45:45

Urgh lost track of time. It is definitely a bad thing I am too old for pulling allnighters!!!

CHBitchy Mon 20-May-13 04:46:13

~~~Happy Birthday Narky~~~
Happy Birthday Narky! thanks Enjoy Ikea.
Bitchy, do you need a brew after the strong drink?? wink
Right, I have no PC and no work so I need to harness the power of 15 this morning. Timer is on now for MNing and general social mediation and then I'm going to do 15 min bursts of decluttering the office interspersed with 15 mins reading. Wish me luck!!
superfluouscurves Mon 20-May-13 10:41:53
I'm with you Bue similar schedule here! Flying this am, then taking dd out this pm (Pentecost public holiday here)
Hope you are enjoying your birthday Narky (wine for later) !
Take it steady Bitchy!
Waves to Goth Newbie Whoknows Castle and everyone else
Turning my attention to sock, bra and pant drawers now ...
CHBitchy Mon 20-May-13 10:56:34
no but sleep wouldn't go a miss. Was hoping it would knock me out. only thing it did was to increase clarity of thinking confused Clearly I am not doing this drinking thing right hmm
Working on a ta da list. bbl
GoingGoingGoth Mon 20-May-13 12:13:30
Afternoon all.
Slow start this morning, but getting there.
DD to school
1st load laundry washed AND hung out (cat taken outside)
2nd load laundry in machine
Cleaned cat litter tray,
Took rubbish out (cat came in)
DH & I built IKEA shelf unit without falling out!
Vacuumed & mopped kitchen floor
Installed shelf unit & filled shelves
Waiting for 2nd load laundry to finish spinning then hang it out and put in 3rd, luckily only 1st load requires any ironing.
To do
Vacuum rest of flat
Mop bathroom floor.
Fetch laundry in & out (plus cat grin)
Change DD's bedding
Possibly dust <laughs hysterically>
Collect DD from school
superfluouscurves Mon 20-May-13 13:09:12
You obviously need to up the alcohol levels Bitchy grin
Pant drawer sorting on hold until dd does her religion hwk. So far have tried falsely jolly- positivity, "let's make this in to a game", bribery and calm, earnest persuasion. Gearing myself up for slightly more earnest persuasion, firm instruction, direct orders --before I lose my temper and start screeching.
Deep breaths, one ...two... three... four ...
superfluouscurves Mon 20-May-13 13:10:31
OOps - rather over-did the strikethrough there
-but you get the general idea [sigh].
superfluouscurves Mon 20-May-13 13:11:23
Goth speed read your list and thought you said you'd hung out the cat grin
CHBitchy Mon 20-May-13 13:11:24
Perhaps a motivational list?
Ta da
put dress making stuff away
make sure ds goes to school with something he will eat for lunch
parcel up present that should have been sent 2 weeks ago blush
Get folding up to date
get ironing up to date
check what is going on when and where for the rest of this month
consider ex's request to have ds for all of his half term
wash hair
hours soak in very hot bath for sore achy muscles
sort out emails/and other internet stuff
cull a load of frenemies
take rubbish out
disinfect bins
4th load of washing on
make up oat bread dough
find recipe for rye bread
decide tea will be pizza as ham is going off and needs eating asap
drink far too much coffee and wish that could keep drinking proper coffee rather then having had to switch to decaff after the second cup this morning
check ds' training equipment
find flapjack recipe
RIght I suppose I could have a lunch break and then get on with some more stuff. Lack motivation but planning on keep plodding on as there is nothing else that can be done really if I want this chaos taming. I have decided I am very much fed up of chaos and clutter and disorder. Time to kick things into line.
superfluouscurves Mon 20-May-13 13:13:42
Bitchy and eveyrone else... I've been reading this thread which contains some good tips
superfluouscurves Mon 20-May-13 13:14:06
I'm tired of the chaos and clutter too...
superfluouscurves Mon 20-May-13 13:16:06
Sorry, that link won't load for some reason.
It's the thread in Chat titled "How do I become the motivated, organised woman I think I should be?"
fireandblood Mon 20-May-13 13:49:13
Hangover gone thanks! Doris I feel your pain!
Happy birthday to Narky hope you have a nice day.
Happy birthday narky
We've been at hospital this morning and will be every day for the next 3 weeks, which involves an early start and also getting up at 2am to turn off Joe's feed. Still, I wouldn't change it for the world right now!
DD is sick though so today mainly consists of various loads of washing and me carrying around a sad little monkey who cries if she's passed to DM or put down for more than a second <sigh>
Is it bedtime yet? Not expecting to accomplish much flying today!
<snorts> at 'hung out the cat' SC that's one way to keep him outside. He's a strange one, he used to love being outside, and there's a massive communal garden here with trees and 'wild' areas he could play in.
Bitchy a wise woman once posted here that 'tidy is the new normal' wink] I'm still thinking about making that as a huge poster.
Am running out of time before school finishes for the day 3 o'clock FFS but have made a sizeable dint in the CHAOS.
DD to school
4 loads laundry washed AND hung out
Cleaned cat litter tray,
Took rubbish out
DH & I built IKEA shelf unit without falling out!
Vacuumed & mopped kitchen & bathroom floors
Washed cat bowls & mat, cleaned 'cat food corner'
Installed shelf unit & filled shelves
Vacuumed bedrooms & hall - DH still doing 'stuff' in lounge
<not so stealthy boast> nothing under beds so easy mission
Ironable laundry in
Done lots more but cba to update list.
Goth we actually have it on the wall. Doesn't mean to say it happens but ds did start tidying his room without being asked the other day. Slowly getting the normal away from complete bombsite to tidy. seems like we have to visit every single stage in between though hmm
I am waiting for bedtime and trying not to cave to the wish of coffee so that I will be able to sleep.
grin Goth don't know anything about cats but similar thing happened to my sister. Her cat used to love going outside, and then all of a sudden, had to be persuaded. She went to vet to check all well (which it was). Vet said cat may have had bad experience or may be just changing preferences as it ages. (Incidentally, have to keep my rabbits away from drying laundry on terrace - else dh's smalls come back inside with strange holes in strange places that weren't there before!grin) Well done re: keeping chaos at bay.
Hope gums recovering FireandBlood
Goodness Trazzles that sounds incredibly gruelling (night feeds, continuous hospital visits, poorly dd). Can you draft in some practical help?
Congrats on mahoosive ta da list Bitchy
Bit miffed because what was meant to be "dh working for a bit followed by family day out" turned in to "dh working a lot" and then "dh giving dw lots of admin to do at very late notice". Never mind. Tried to tackle my drawers (in both senses) but didn't finish because got involved in dd hwk supervision and EU thread when will I ever learn. Going to step away from the screen and do more Flying tonight once I've finished office work.
Encouraging wing flaps to everyone!
Good evening all
Am loosing the determination for FLYing. Really hope it comes back soon.
Happy birthday Narky flowers hope you’ve had a nice day.
sc will look at that thread you recommend. Love a good old tips thread smile
I have done most of the routine things today, just cba with the mission or detail. I always get like this during bedroom week!
I went to see my head teacher today about enrolling on a degree, she was very encouraging. I shared with her what my original plan was and where I’d like to see my career go and she said to go back to see her again after half-term when she will be able to have a better conversation with me about it all.
Feel a bit better that I’ve spoken to her about the course I have done (level 4 social care with children and families), the one I am doing now (level 3 supporting teaching and learning in schools) and what I want my next step to be.
This evening I need to do some ironing, and some work on my course.
