February Fledglings FLYing High

(594 Posts)

Welcome to the February Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of wine and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

- start or repeat baby steps

- repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

- reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

thanks to SC for leading us through January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted grin.

So come along in and park your dusters ready for Feb!

MrsPennyApple - I saw on the previous thread that you had a reassuring scan and also passed your driving test. Congratulations on both!

This house has descended into chaos again sad. I took my eye off the washing for a few days and now it's piled high on the ironing board and spilling onto chairs blush. Morning / afternoon all depending on which part of the globe that you're reading this in.

Many thanks to SC for getting us through January. Blue here's a little something to help you get us through the month wine

I'm v pleased to hear that Feb is the new January as DD said yesterday that she's finally thought of her New Year's Resolution and it will be "to conquer her fears". Thats sounds a bit heavy but she wants to stop being scared of the dark. On the back of that I've finally decided my NYR is to "go out more" - the question is what to do? Choir ? Evening classes ? All suggestions welcome! (The trouble is after a day at work I really like being at home!)

Oops, just found new thread! Missed the link on the last one. This one is already getting long! I'll have a read back in a minute. (Hadn't actually realised it was February today!)

Just wanted to ask if anyone else is suddenly being bombarded with flylady emails? Nine yesterday and four or five so far this morning. This is despite my setting it to NO EMAILS, and not having received any before yesterday, apart from the welcome ones.

MrsP - yes, the Fat Fairy has changed her mailer system. There's a little unsubscribe link at the bottom. Click on that and they'll all go away again. smile

Also practiced a bit of "Finally Loving Myself" by buying a bunch of flowers (used voucher we got for our wedding ages ago ) and am going to go and pamper myself this evening.

And good news, my Dsis is out of hospital, armed wih antibiotics and has been signed off work Mon/Tues (she's a workaholic and has been dragging herself in).

superfluouscurves Fri 01-Feb-13 19:34:29

MrsPennyapple re: e-mails - that is why we warn eveyrone about entering "The Big Tent" because one gets indundated unfortunately.

I'm afraid I've just noticed a mistake in the op (totally my fault because I wrote it originally!). "To avoid being indundated with details" should read "to avoid being indundated with e-mails" (I'd obviously had too many wine when I wrote it!)

Have you tried this re: how to unsubscribe?

LillethTheCat Fri 01-Feb-13 19:42:02

Evening everyone

tada
- Turn Washing Machine on
- Dry Laundry
- Shopping
- Make beds
- Put Laundry away
- Wash up 2X
- Shine Sink
- Tidy up front room after DCs in bed
- ring woman back re volunteering (very nervous though, but it will count towards my qualification)
- 5 min Cupboard room rescue

to do
- get out clothes for tomorrow

So I rang up about volunteering and I have to go for a chat on Monday. She said on the phone it was just a chat to tell me about them and for me to have a look round. Also to discuss what positions they need. Im a bit nervous. The big question is what do I wear? I was thinking something that Id wear for work, but not so formal like a suit. What do you think? Its not an interview, but I should probably treat it as such. WWYD?

Engels - good news about your sister. Hope you have a good pamper session.

tomorrow's list
- Make beds
- Turn Washing Machine on
- Dry Laundry
- Put Laundry away
- Wash up 2X
- Shine Sink
- Tidy up front room after DCs in bed
- go to Parkrun
- Jigsaw with DD1
- help DS with homework
- Check homework for DD1

Hope you all have a good Friday evening.

Crikeyblimey Fri 01-Feb-13 19:55:17

More congrats here Mrs M!

Lilleth, I'd wear smartish casual. Something you'd wear for a shopping trip with a friend kind of thing - hope it works out for you.

So today I've
Up, showered, dressed
Ds up, washed, dressed
Chickens and guneas fed, watered and set free (chickens not guineas).
Washed up breakfast things
Off to school amd work.
Decent day at work
Finished at 4.45 and met dh in the pub for a sneaky glass of white.
Collected ds from his friend's house (where he goes after chess club on a Friday)
Made a lovely veg curry for tea.
Put away shopping delivery
Washed up and shined sink
One load of washing in
Kitchen floor swept
Having a glass of red now whilst updating this and pretending to be interested in whatever it is ds is playing with.

Happy weekend all.

superfluouscurves Fri 01-Feb-13 20:11:45

I'm afraid my early start petered out horribly... started decluttering and a rather heavy object managed to dislodge itself from a shelf, fly through the air, and land on the nail bed of my middle finger ...cue much leaping about and effing and blinding ... cue three hrs whimpering and avoiding going to A&E ... cue eventually going to A&E to have pressure relieved (eerrgghh) ...cue Flying day pretty much ruined ... but still managed to flip Chandeleur crepes with one hand!!

So, instead of trying to catch up tomorrow, I am going to try and do the sensible thing and move on and start again 'where we are at' etc. Fortunately had shined sink, fed and cleaned out rabbits, prepped supper and pancake batter and tidied up a bit prior to injury. Didn't do any decluttering though and it's the first day of the month which is a bit dispiriting [SC sticks out bottom lip and stamps foot]

So glad your sister is ok Engels and out of hospital and is going to rest up a bit. It is awful when one is far away and this sort of thing happens. Good for you re: flowers and pampering!

Cuddledup ooooh - I've never met a rl Flyer before!!! Were they wearing lace-up shoes?? wink

Your 'dodgy stuffed with everything cupboard' sounds all too familiar Jdub smile

Wow at no hot spots in current zone Nicknacks??? And shock at cutting own hair too!!

See you have had a very "domestic Goddessy" day *bitchy!!

Blue impressed by your organised party prep!

Hope the crisis clean and laundry taming went ok Toffee

Waves to Honu Poiea Goth Lilleth and everyone else

PS don't want to out us, but dh has also had problems today. Flew to an Asian business destination 6, 410 km away for the weekend (which was a bad enough strategy in itself) - owing to fog, plane couldn't land on arrival - circled for 3 hrs - so plane landed in different major city 1400 km away where he has been holed up in hotel for 10 hours without luggage or passport....

superfluouscurves Fri 01-Feb-13 20:15:10

x post

Waves to Crikey too

Yes - smart/casual sounds good Lileth Hope interview/chat goes well!

superfluouscurves Fri 01-Feb-13 20:18:21

Nicknacks sorry! Those were meant to be exclamation marks after the "no hotspots" bit - not question marks!!! blush grin grin Also, meant it was brave of you to cut own hair (not outraged shock) ...oh dear ... will take my size 13s off to watch an episode of House now ...

Big "February is the new January" waves to eveyrone grin

Cuddledup Fri 01-Feb-13 22:04:25

SC sorry about your squashed finger. Hope you're ok now. Pity about DH's business trip - is this karma for announcing the trip at the very last minute wink. Anyway hope the rest of the household is ok despite DH's absence and that you all have a good weekend.

Busy day - not much flying - I can't even remember what I intended to do except I know I only did a bit of it and Mt Washmore has grown hmm

This evening on the "chat" thread I posted an appeal for explanations on what panty liners are for - DH wasn't convinced by my reasoning. These replies are hilarious - lets just say you'll never look at a drip tray in the same way again.
This link should work... ( I think)
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/1674353-Panty-liners-DH-needs-an-explanations

Apologies for digression....

Have a good evening you 'all

Cuddledup Fri 01-Feb-13 22:05:34

lileth I'd vote for the smart casual option for the volunteering interview. Hope it all works out.

Good evening!

Let’s see what everyone’s been up to today:

SC got off to a flying start before being felled by a decluttering related injury. Ouch! Sorry to hear about your DH’s travelling woes, too.

Engelse had a late start – I’d be grin not blush about that! Sorry to hear about your sister but glad she’s out of the hospital. Enjoy your pampering. smile

Bitchy was taking the day gently – glad to hear it! – but still had an impressive list. Like “wash hair in peace”!

Toffee was teaching DS1 to tackle hotspots as a life skill – excellent plan!

Jdub is planning to tackle the “dodgy stuffed with everything cupboard” – a task I’m resolutely putting off, myself.

Cuddled - good luck to your DD with tackling fear of the dark. I’ve recently joined a choir, which I love, but then I work at home so need the getting out part.

NickNacks has no hotspots in the current zone!! envy

poeia was off to shine her sink. smile

Lilleth had some impressive lists and is getting set for some volunteering. Good luck for Monday.

MrsP was suddenly being bombarded by FLY emails – the unsubscriber thing is safe and does work.

Going had a good list too.

Crikey has also been flying high – like the last item on your list!

Meanwhile our day of frantic party prep has gone pretty well. I’m chuffed with the cake as it actually resembles the picture in the book and the volcano fairy cakes look something like I imagined them too. DH is taking the boys out shopping in the morning while I do all the sandwich making etc. I just hope the plans with survive first contact with -- the enemy -- 15 or so 6-year-olds!! [eek] [worried about crowd control skills]

*********************
No missions tomorrow as it’s the weekend. Saturday is Family Fun Day

Babystep 2 is the controversial dressing to shoes. Feel free to apply this as literally or liberally as suits. smile

The February habit of the month is decluttering for 15 mins a day – definitely one I could do with adopting.
**********************

XP with Cuddled - just had a look at your other thread. Mostly grin but a bit hmm at how judgy some people get on here!

MrsPennyapple Fri 01-Feb-13 22:53:14

Thank you, have unsubscribed. (Again. Grr. Hey Flylady, you know when I said I didn't want emails? Did you misunderstand and think "oh, she obviously wants loads of emails!"?)

Nicknaks well done on your lack of hotspots! My dining table hotspot keeps trying to come back. Where does eceryone else put library books? They don't belong anywhere, if they are put away I'll forget about them!

SC your finger incident sounds really painful! I hope it gets better soon.

I have done basic housework today but am keen to get lots of driving in and build up my confidence a bit, so have been out and about a lot. Today I took a drive to the little egg stall to buy eggs. (Basically a shed with a load of boxes of eggs, some veg, and an honesty box.) I am planning some baking at the weekend, so got 12 eggs. Unbeknownst to me, DP had also stopped by, although he only bought 6. I feel a lot of scones coming on.

ToffeeWhirl Sat 02-Feb-13 00:12:49

Oooh, SC, that sounds really, really painful sad. We have had quite a few squashed finger incidents in our family (both boys and myself, usually involving doors, but mine involving a full jar of honey falling on me from the top of a cupboard) and they rank as probably the most excruciating. Will you lose your fingernail (owch)?

I hope the pain is under control now. If not, this is the best anaesthetic: <hands over wine>.

Blue - thank you for your excellent round up. I'm glad to hear your party preparations went well. Best of luck tomorrow!

Did a lot of work with DS1 today, which meant the house crisis clean took second place. However, I did tackle the dining-room table hotspot, so we now have somewhere to eat again (other than our laps). And my lack of energy / time / inclination to do housework did lead to DH loading up the dishwasher and putting some washing away grin.

<dashes off to read Cuddled's thread before bed>

ToffeeWhirl Sat 02-Feb-13 00:21:47

That's hilarious, Cuddled grin.

Engelsemama Sat 02-Feb-13 08:00:36

snuck downstairs to MN while DH and DS were asleep but can hear them both upstairs now so will come back after breakfast!

Morning all,

I too got inundated with Flylady emails allof a sudden this week so I unsubscribed and wrote in the little please tell us why you are unsubscribing box that I was decluttering my inbox. Which is true I am diligently unsubscribing to practically every organisation that emails me at the moment because I am fed up with not noticing "real" emails in amongst the marketing stuff.

SC - ouch at your finger incident, hope it feels better today

Cuddled - yout thread is very funny, reminds me of a colleague who told me that his 6 year old son once embarrassed his grandmother at her house by wandering into the lounge with a pack of them and asking what "party liners* were for.

Another busy day yesterday, I ended up going to bed at 9, the week caught up with me in the end.

SilveryMoon Sat 02-Feb-13 08:33:55

Morning. Sorry I've missed a couple of days. No FLYing yesterday, straight to the pub after work.

TO DO
Swish and swipe
All dressed
Change beds (x3)
Clear away breakfast
Take rubbish out
Menu plan and write shopping list
Litter trays
Polish/dust
Glass shelves etc
Hoover
Mop
Driving lesson
Wrap ds2's birthday present
Tesco

Think that's it. We're having my parents round today (is ds2's birthday on Monday) and the party tomorrow so need to make sure the place is straight.
I also need to do some more course work, I failed my last assignment so it needs to be re-submitted. Shouldn't take any longer than half an hour.

My brother and his family (gf and 1yo ds) are coming to London from Glasgow today. My parents don't know so will just find then at their house (well, my parents separated years and years ago but now live next door to each other) when they get back from here. Have to find a way to kick them out about 4 so my bro isn't waiting around for too long. Me, dp and the ds's will go over in the car after work Monday to see them.

Right, must go have a quick look at what everyone else has been up to smile

Engelsemama Sat 02-Feb-13 09:07:37

<slinks in hoping nobody noticed absence for last half of Januaryblush>.

Morning everyone! January may have been crap re posting but I actually kept up my routines for a whole month properly and am feeling rather smugwinkgrin.

January also ended on a rather fabulous note. After 9 years of trying, which included failure to get pregnant, investigations, a battle with cancer of the womb and a full hysterectomy, an amazing lady has enabled my sister to become a mother at last. My nephew was born on January 31st at 10.16 am weighing 6.13. He is the most precious gorgeous little miracle and his arrival is a day we thought we would never see. It has put everything else in my life in perspective and to see my sister holding her baby makes me cry ...... A lotwink. That this selfless young woman could do that for someone just shows that the human race can be ruddy marvellousgrin. (apologies for soppy post).

Back to reality and this last couple of days everything has gone bonkers so the house has suffered so restoring order today.

Ta da:-
Cleaned/tidied all bedrooms
Cleaned bathroom
Hoovered upstairs
Cleaned living room

To do:-
Washing
Dining room
Kitchen
Hallway
Food shop
New coat for me
Drop DS at friend's for sleepover
Nephew snuggles
Have a girlie movie evening with DD
Pay deposit for dd's birthday party.

Hope everyone is oksmile.

Did too much yesterday and didn't go to bed early enough.
Ds' birthday cake quite frankly looks pathetic. Simple in design looks boring in practice. So i need to rethink that.

Today's list.
make chocolate brownies
finish off the biscuits (dough rested in fridge yesterday afternoon and was too tired to finish off last night)
shower and up
finish pulling stuff out of the study
hoover and relay rug
put table in study
return boxes of stuff that i am really not going to get around to dealing with before monday into study
make sure lounge is tidy
wash my bedding
pull ds' present out of my bed and wrap up
Make sure that i have dress ready for dressmaker to alter for taking tomo
Make sure that i have everything ready for monday
etc etc etc etc etc etc

too much to do fuck all wish to do it. ttfn

LillethTheCat Sat 02-Feb-13 10:27:31

Morning, lovely sunny day here, but it was frosty this morning and cold. DH has just told me its supposed to snow here on Tues. Which reminds me I need to check the weather thread that Kitten runs. Ive not looked for a while. I dont want it to snow on Tues as I want to go to my running club. Ive not been for ages due to the weather.

I didn't go to Parkrun this morning, but I have been on the exercise bike instead even though I didn't burn as many calories as I would have done by running and did some arm work with some weights I have in (got them when I tried to do the shred DVD)

Ive decided on Monday Im going to wear smart clothes: trousers, top and black boots. The same clothes Id be wearing if I was working in an office. I do have a suit, but I do think that will be over the top.

tada
- Make beds
- Turn Washing Machine on
- Wash Up after breakfast

to do
- 2nd load of laundry
- Dry Laundry
- Put Laundry away
- Wash up 2X
- Shine Sink
- Tidy up front room after DCs in bed
- Jigsaw with DD1
- help DS with homework
- Check homework for DD1

SC - Ouch, hope your finger is ok today.
Cuddled - Just been sidetracked by your thread. grin
Blue - Thanks for the round up and the links. Hope you have a good party. Well done on getting the cakes just right.
Silvery- How lovely of your brother and his family. Hope you find away of getting your parents home without being rude.
Engels - have a lovely night out tonight.

<waves to everyone else>

Have a lovely weekend everyone

Crossed posts

Elliepac - What wonderful news about your Sister. Hope all is well. Also well done on Jan flying grin

Bitchy - Hope you are ok. Only do what you can and remember Perfectionism is the enemy of achievement. Nothing needs to be perfect. Take it easy.

ToffeeWhirl Sat 02-Feb-13 10:33:56

Ellie - that is fabulous news! grin thanks It must be a very, very happy time in the elliepac extended family at the moment! I hope you are getting to enjoy lots of the newborn snuggles as well smile.

Blue - good luck with the dinosaur party today.

Bitchy - is your son's birthday party on Monday? Good luck with the preparations.

Silvery - that will be a wonderful surprise for your mum and dad.

WhoKnows - I also lose 'real' emails in all the junk in my email box. You have reminded me that I need to declutter it.

Engels - enjoy your night out with the girls <rushes off to add 'look fabulous' to list>

Went to bed too late because I was enjoying MN <sigh>, so am not quite as energetic as I could have been today. However, I still have a 'to do' list:

Sort out stuff for charity shop
Normal morning routines
Ironing
Kitchen hotspot
Lunch
Walk into town - take stuff to charity shops
Visit MIL
Home for dinner

Hope you all have a happy day.

ellie grin grin grin

lilleth perfection? Nope but the cake looks like a round cake with pale blue icing on it. It is totally uninspiring. hmm

Toffee ds isn't having a party. It's his birthday. But need to get various jobs done so that he can actually sit in the lounge and open his presents because lounge is a no go area. Study had to be dealt with as there was an explosion of the pile of paperwork needing to be filed and a returned coffee table that needed removing from the lounge and could only be put in the study. Seriously serious decluttering is needed but having stuff from 4 households brought in over the last 5 years it is just going to take time. Tis what happens when people die and you clear their houses out. You collect stuff for sentimental reasons and sometimes forget the practical. Thus it takes time for the emotions to be processed so rational thinking can be restored.

Engelsemama Sat 02-Feb-13 11:09:42

A lovely post to make me smile ellie Huge congratulations to your sister smile

Adding running to list today. Friend just called and we're heading out in an hour (when DS is asleep, DH will be home, but he can get on with some work in the house!)

Morning all.

Ta da!
Washing done and in dryer
Sandwiches made
Lots of other food prep done
DH and boys kicked out shopping
Big box of party stuff packed up
Big bags of party stuff packed up

Now, a quick question - would you go with pre-cooking chicken nuggets etc and serving them cold or taking them frozen, cooking them there (is OK to use the oven) and serving them hot?? Can't decide.

ellie - fabulous news indeed! smile thanks

Thanks Toffee and Lilleth.

Happy birthday to your DS, Bitchy

SilveryMoon Sat 02-Feb-13 11:14:22

ellie Huge congratulations to you all. That is just brilliant news grin I too marvel at the wonderfulness of some people out there, what a truly amazing thing this woman has done for your sister.

GoingGoingGoth Sat 02-Feb-13 11:28:43

Exciting morning reading the posts

Ellie Amazing news, how wonderful. It's news like this that gladdens the heart.

Blue, Silvery & Bitchy hope the birthdays/party preparations all go well.

Bitchy some of my cakes have looked terrible, but as long as they taste good... It is the thought that counts, and I hope he appreciates the effort you've put it.

SC OUCH!

Mixed morning today, hormonal preteen, but I've had a chat & cuddle with her this morning and we've agreed that when the 'angry' feelings come that she'll tell us, and we'll give her space, if that's what she needs. Which is why I've time to do a long post grin she's sat in her bedroom singing, rather than us having the per-going out meltdown. What is it with putting shoes on?

Anyway she has a party at the Science Centre this afternoon, so rather than me traipsing there and back again, we're making a day of it.

GoingGoingGoth Sat 02-Feb-13 11:31:19

Blue I'd cook the nuggets there, but I can't bear cold nuggets.

But then children don't seem to be bothered. What is easiest for you? Will you be running the games there, or can you 'sneak off' to the kitchen?

Tis monday blue, ds is currently at his dad's. All go on the prep front. sort of...

goth judging by how the bit cut off the top to level it disappeared, i am pretty certain there will be no complaints on the eating side other then the piece being too small no matter what size he is given grin

MrsPennyapple Sat 02-Feb-13 12:18:34

OMG. I've just been on a cobweb clearing mission round the living room. There were lots. I am thoroughly ashamed. How do they manage to escape notice? Once you start looking for them they're everywhere!

Lovely post Ellie congratulations to your sister, it must be so lovely to see.

superfluouscurves Sat 02-Feb-13 13:12:30

Oh Ellie smile smile smile that is such amazing and brilliant news!! Many congratulations to your sister, her oh, and all the family and to you on your new Aunt-hooded-fabulousness!! thanks thanks thanks Great to know there are such selfless people in the world!! [Oh and bottle a whiff of new-born for me please smile]

Blue good luck with the party - hope your ds and all the family have a lovely day!!

A very happy birthday to your ds Bitchy!! I'm sure the cake will work out brilliantly in the end.

Silvery hope you all have a fab family reunion and good luck with keeping it a surprise until then!!

Cuddledup arf at your thread!! Re: dh's travel misfortunes: I must admit the word 'schadenfreude' did cross my mind wink [horrible cackling wife emoticon]

Well done on the driving front MrsPennyapple!

Enjoy your sushi night Engels

Waves to Trazzles Lileth Whoknows Toffee Poiea Nicknacks Honu Just madwoman Pushme Feetheart Castle Snowgirl and everyone else....!

And thanks for kind words about finger everyone. Think there must be something in the water here, because between last night's post and this one, I have also managed to cut my upper lip and impale my toe on a huge splinter (no carpets just very old wooden floors here). So as well as typing oddly, I am now speaking and walking oddly too grin!!! Oh and thanks for 'liquid' anaesthetic Toffee but I am having a dry February sadly!!

But enough of niggling ailments -[drum roll] the sun is shining today!!! Yippeee!! The rabbits are gambolling on the lawn and I can see a few snowdrops starting to emerge. So far I have done laundry, hobbled chased after dd with a large net and managed to corall her in to the bath: then subjected her to full grooming session; mane plaited, hooves trimmed etc. Followed by fabulous walk in the sunshine - then home made veg soup - and I have just been very self-indulgent and renewed my spirit by watching a wonderful Roland Petit ballet , L'Arlesienne (never, ever watch day-time tv normally - honest!!) here while dd played with her Playmobil house. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but the bit at the end where the shirtless Jeremie Belingard shows off his six pack cracks up - pirouettes amazingly/madly around the stage and jumps out of the window is definitely worth a look grin

Have a great Saturday everyone!!

[Leaves out restorative post-party crate of alcohol in naughty corner for Blue]

MrsP I had the same thing last week! Was really shock at how invisible they are!

Just been to Tesco on the party food run. £168! What a joke.
Now for a quick sandwich and driving lesson in 15 mins.
BBL

DS1 has decided that he prefers cold chicken nuggets, but the other things that need cooking will definitely be better hot. So doing both. Ho hum.

Mostly ready to go now, just praying we survive the excitement!

Happy February everyone! It is a lovely warm, gentle Spring day here! :-) The birds are tweeting, the crocuses are pushing up outside my door - I even heard a couple of buzzy bumble bees!

<skips off to begin a little 'spring decluttering' grin>

Ps - SC I hope you are feeling better today! MrsP - congratulations! Auntie Ellie - wonderful news! Bitchy - I will be hovering hopefully around the naughty corner for a sample of those brownies, and maybe some scones from Cuddledup (was it Cuddledup? Am on phone). Engels well done on the pampering! Waves to everyone else xx

Done more stuff but running late so can't update. need a quick change of clothes and off out for an enforced bit of rest time. Will be back and flying later.

Dear lord, day 2 and it's four pages already!

So thanks to Blue for this month, thanks and to SC thanks for last month.

I did loads yesterday, full of enthusiasm, but am annoyingly flat on my back today as a result. So today's all been things I can do from here and apologies to all but need to keep at it. So just a quick one to Toffee; exam arrangement info's on your thread.

Glad the party went well Blue.

Today's been busy (as usual).
Took dh to the train station this morning for 8.30 to get the train to Fort William for his winter mountaineering course (he gets to have a full week away, during term time, climbing up mountains - he does deserve it though).

Came home and parcelled up some teapots ive sold on eBay.
Put washing in dryer and another load in washer.
Picked ds up and took him for a much needed haircut.
Came home and potted up the spring bulbs into the stone trough I've inherited (I inherited the bulbs too and they have been growing in a bucket for the last 4 weeks waiting for me to "get round to it".
Mucked out hens and GP's.
Ds helped me make dinner - I made chips, he cooked fillet steak! Yummy smile
Washed up. More washing.
Swept floor in kitchen.
I've also decided that the nasty grouting in the kitchen is my new "work in progress" and every time I'm in there, I shall scrub 1 tile. It will be done in no time smile

Out to dinner with ds tomorrow night.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone.

Evening all!

Silvery - hope your surprise family visit went well.

Ellie - still grinning at your lovely news, and glad routines are working well for you at the moment.

Bitchy - ah, well, Happy Birthday to him for Monday then! Hope the preparations go well.

Lilleth - good going with the lists.

Toffee

Going - Science Museum party sounds fab. Higher level version of what we were aiming for…

MrsP - cobwebs are the worst. Don’t be ashamed though, just consider it organic pest control… wink

SC - yikes at all your injuries! Hope the day improved. Ballet sounds good. [swigs gratefully from restorative crate] – thanks for the wine

Castle - envy of springlike weather. Snowed again today here. Fortunately didn’t come to anything though.

Just sorry to hear you’ve been laid up again. Hope things are better now.

crikey - work in progress approach sounds good.

No mission tomorrow – Sunday is “renew your spirit day”.

Off to resume battle with the camera, trying to get photos onto computer, which suddenly won’t recognise it. Grr…

I had the joys of getting into car (already running late) to discover that I had a flat tyre. And on the way home it would seem that the car has developed rather an alarming shake. So hoping that the lovely mechanic who is a saint and works sunday mornings as standard can work a miracle on it. sad

SilveryMoon Sat 02-Feb-13 23:46:00

Hope it's nothing too serious or too expensive with the car bitchy.

I got a text from my dad saying well done for keeping the visit a secret. We're going to drive over after school Monday for an hour to see them. Can't wait to see my nephew.

Right, must go back to sleep. Night.

GoingGoingGoth Sun 03-Feb-13 00:06:11

Blue I have an feeling Dd is going to ask for her party to be there this year, I was hoping to rip off do something similar to you. Your ideas sounded great. Although they've just been doing the Solar System this term, so that make be a nice theme, got to October to think of something.

you could do a hunt the alien theme goth. cornflour slime, coke and menthos rockets etc etc. especially if you have access to an old speaker/way of viewing youtube short clips. So much potential...

Me to silvery, me to. I am hoping it is just a bolt that needs tightening. However, it does have potential to be a lot more.

chubbymomie2012 Sun 03-Feb-13 07:26:26

girls, i love you all!!! my friends have been taking the P**snout of me for ages because i write a to do list for housework everyday! I have just discovered this thread and i feel like i have died and gone to heaven. Will be inspired by ur lists from now on. Hurrah!

SilveryMoon Sun 03-Feb-13 08:37:22

Hi chubby

Morning all Today is party day!! Ds2 came and woke me this morning, he asked if it was his birthday so I said yes(it's actually tomorrow, but won't really have time to do much so have told him it's today).
He then said "but I haven't grown, I'm still the same size. I must still be 3 and a half." He really cracks me up!

So, party day. It's half 8 now I've told people 12. Loads of time.

I am calm, easy and ready for madness.

Glad you are calm SIlvery. Today I am doing an impression of a zombie who feels like utter death but is non the less running around in insane circles.

Oi cubby you need to not put the asterix in around here. Swearing happens and we don't take offence. and if you take offence at swearing you are going to hate my posts!
Also the ultimate list makers are the slatterns. They specialise in lists!

Otoh here we like the little and often approach and seem to delight in doing the same thing every day or not which is why i live in the naughty corner

chubbymomie2012 Sun 03-Feb-13 10:02:24

Lol Bitchy, im just getting to grips with the different groups, i said Shite in a post on the dog basket wall and was politely asked to not post such "drival" will remove all asterix as of now!

Engelsemama Sun 03-Feb-13 10:04:20

Morning ladies. Not sure how I will renew my spirit today - perhaps some washing up, some washing, change DS bed (again - he's a snotface atm), some decluttering.

Or perhaps I should take the other route - a walk in the park, another long pampering shower to "declutter" all the toiletries an cosmetics I ahve and an evening in front of trash tv with a mirror, curlers, youtube tutorials on how to make my hair look fabulous.

Option a, or option b? Or perhaps both?

Stuffed myself silly with sushi last night. Didn't get home till 1am, DH was snoring away. Made a change from my usual Saturday nights (in bed by 10 blush ).

grin

we be fiesty here at mn winkgrin

Sorry I didn't get back on last night.

I can say the c-word? Well, thank Fuck for that!
Party went well, the place was trashed! All cleaned up now though, apart from a couple of toys that got broken and that the curtain rail in the boys room was pulled down, bringing the plank of wood that it's nailed into with it.
Oh well, no one was hurt so could have been worse.
Ds1 is driving me fucking bat-shit crazy. I am in danger of really losing the plot with him. All I;'ve done all weekend is shout at him sad
I need to find a better parenting approach.I don't normally shout, dp is the shouter, whinger and whiner here. It really pisses me off when he tries to tell the boys off, he talks to them sometimes with such little respect it makes me want to punch him. He wonders where they get their nasty whiny attitude from. I have started screaming "YOU! you cunt"

Ggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The washing machine broke this morning. Have ordered a new one from littlewoods, but can't have it delivered til Saturday, so having to go a whole week without washing any clothes.

Up and strip beds done

I've actually mid-post just had the above rant to dp. I told him that I am cracking and that I think it;s because I feel too pressured to be nice and calm with the ds's all the time because they need to know that one of us at all times will listen to them and help them and that I feel that they just piss him off, that he talks to them with so much disregard that it makes me want to harm him and he needs to stop his whiny tone of voice.
He told me they come crying to me all the time because I undermine him. I told himn that, yes I do, because he is unreasonable.
I think I need some more booze!

GoingGoingGoth Sun 03-Feb-13 19:12:02

SC large wine- you've done amazing well today. Can't offer any advice re shouting, as am trying to deal with that personally. We have similar discussions arguments in this house too, re tone used. We seem to alternate between being the shorty one. I hate it.

A week without the washer! I'd be stressed too. Is there anyone near you who would let you wash at theirs? Even a couple of loads would ease the pressure a bit.

GoingGoingGoth Sun 03-Feb-13 19:13:03

SM not SC FFS

SilveryMoon Sun 03-Feb-13 19:19:05

Thanks Goth
We should be ok, think we've got enough stuff to not need to do the washing for a week, as long as I am careful at work and get 2 days out of some trousers.
Although, I may have to pop to tesco for some socks!
The good thing about no washing for a week, is no ironing for a week! This is looking good grin wink

So Ive just been looking at the flylady website and seen tomorrow's mission. Since ours is currently empty (DH has just taken the rubbish out) Ive decided to make a start. I have poured in some bleach and currently am waiting for the kettle to boil for the third time to pour that in to leave it overnight. So I am actually going to do a mission shock I never do missions. Now can I do the whole week? Not sure, but we shall see.

Im bound to have crossed some posts here. Will post again in a bit.

LillethTheCat Sun 03-Feb-13 19:45:52

Ooh I didn't

Have a good evening everyone

SilveryMoon Sun 03-Feb-13 19:55:24

Good for you and the mission Lilleth
Handy we're in the kitchen this week, will need to unplug and move the washing machine to clean behind there before I let them take it out.
It will be hard, and the back up of laundry will be immense (I normally do 2/3 loads a day), but think we have enough clothes to get through. Well, I haven't so trousers 2 days in a row, but I can handle a quick dash to the high street mid-week if I run out wink

Goth I have a plan somewhere from a party 2 years ago which was cancelled due to ds having a very nasty chest infection/stomach flu can't actually remember but he was ill let me know roughly what age group and how many you are thinking and I will tweak for that and send across to you if you want? although it won't happen this week

yeah. Insane week here as of early tomo. Excited boy went to bed ok and is already fast asleep. I am not far behind.

NickNacks Sun 03-Feb-13 20:27:21

Argh I posted earlier but it's not here! Back soon.

NickNacks Sun 03-Feb-13 20:51:37

So I'm back from a loved up weekend away. Feeling very relaxed smile

Dcs went to grandparents so lots to unpack and wash which I can smugly say is all done.

ellie I really welled up when I read about your sister and new nephew. How lovely smile

Can't help on the shouting advice because when I have PMT that's exactly like me!

15 minute declutter (prob my utility room)
Make up dd bed

Hello lovelies

I had a back to front Flying w/e. Having renewed my spirit with ballet & rugby yesterday, today we had family fun: singing games, cooking together, 3 x Frustration, sewing, and "Devine, qui vient manger chez nous aujourd’hui?" which was the same garden bird observation exercise some of you were doing last weekend (had great success too: blue tits, merle et merlette (Eng ?), wood pigeons, robin, and a jay)

Flying ta da:
30 mins laundry room reorganisation/decluttering
ballet laundry
school uniform laundry
shoe polishing
ironing
cool whites wash
bed-making
sink shining and pretty serious kitchen polish
(have already done kitchen bin part of tomorrow's mission but need to do three recycling bins too)
pancake and steak pie-making
second kitchen polish
(and miracle of miracles dd did 20 mins tidying up in play room without being asked shock)

Dh returned from airport early on following horrendous weekend of travel with job (eventually) done, in a foul mood (looking grey with fatigue) and on principle refused to give in to sleep (he always does this so his body clock adjusts quickly) which meant he had to drink coffee and walk the streets, grey with fatigue, 20 mins every hour for four hours this afternoon. Heigh ho...

DD has a rather startling case of slapped cheek (something I had never heard of before I joined Mumsnet) and with her plaits looks like a Russian doll with two large round bright red circles on either side of her nose.

A very welcome to Chubby you have come to the right place - we are all wierdly obsessed by microfibre cloths enthusiastic Flyers but give the more barftastic bits of Flylady website a wide berth.

Glad the parties went well Blue and Silvery!!

Fossil dig sounds amazing Blue

Silvery sorry you have had such a stressful day - can't advise about shouting though because I'm the shouty one in our family and dh is calm and patient to an annoying degree. Sorry about wm too.

Weekend sounds fab Nick!

Good luck tomorrow Lilleth!

Hope car repairs not too expensive Bitchy Hope you both have a lovely day.

Engels I certainly hope you opted for option B!!

Crikey hope visiting your mum's grave and visiting her house for the last time today was conforting and not too sad for you x Lovely thing to inherit bulbs though!! smile Hope you had a lovely evening with your ds too.

Goth your baking sounds delicious!

Big waves to Castle *Ellie Honu Feetheart Toffee and everyone else ...

superfluouscurves Sun 03-Feb-13 22:05:43

Sorry - didn't mean to post an essay blush and rather a tedious one at that ...grin

superfluouscurves Sun 03-Feb-13 22:07:40

Bitchy only posted half of message - happy birthday to your ds tomorrow!!

superfluouscurves Sun 03-Feb-13 22:09:43

Also missed out message to Just sorry you are still suffering with your back - on top of everything else too - here's to a speedy recovery flowers

Snowgirl1 Sun 03-Feb-13 22:11:37

Evening all! I've only been off the thread for a few days due to DB coming to stay and it's already 5 pages, so I won't try and catch up with everything that's been going on and just give a big wave to everyone.

Evening all.

Boys were at a birthday party this lunchtime, to which DH took them, so I renewed my spirit by doing some exercise, cooking and blogging. smile

Also done:
2 loads of washing
Been to B&Q to look at bathroom tiles etc
Found homes for some of DS1’s new presents
Roast dinner
Washing up
Caught up with Borgen - sad that it’s the end of the series already!

What’s everyone else been up to?

Bitchy - hope the car is sorted out.

Hi chubby!

Silvery - glad you survived the party and sorry about the washing machine problems. No advice re shouting really. DH and I are both terrible shouters, I’m reading every anger management/parenting book under the sun at the moment and get the theory. Totally suck at putting it into practice though.

Engelse - hope your spirit was satisfactorily renewed, whichever method you chose…

Lilith - grin at getting ahead with the mission.

NickNacks - glad you had a good weekend.

SC - sounds like you’ve had a good weekend too. Yeah, fossil dig was pretty good, though there was sand everywhere and several of the children (mostly girls) decided just to play in the sand for the rest of the party!

Waves to snowgirl, Toffee - sorry to start a message yesterday and get distracted before finishing it! - Going and any lurkers/people I’ve missed.

***************
As Lilith says, we’re moving into the kitchen zone tomorrow.

Babystep 4 – a lot of us are rather hmm about sticking post-it notes everywhere, but writing things down somewhere does seem to help.

Monday is officially Weekly Home Blessing Hour day but a lot of us find the term “house bleugh” less emetic.

And the mission is to clean out the kitchen bins.
****************
Have a good week, everyone! Night.

Evening all,

Hectic weekend here, DH was working all day today, but I've had a lovely day with the DCs, I turned the telly off at 10am and they played, together, all day long, without once asking to have the telly back on, they did ask to go on the computer but took no for an answer without any fuss. I had to push them a bit to do their homework, but hat was all. They also agreed to walk to their swimming lessons without a fuss (only 10 mins but they often fuss and lean on me to drive). So, i got quite a few jobs done round the house, found room for quite a lot of Christmas/birthday presents, changed my bed, did the Ocado shopping, all in all a good day.

This week is looking very busy both at work and at home so I might not be around much, but hope to make time to post.

elliepac Mon 04-Feb-13 06:42:57

Morning all.

Feeling rather rough here. Contemplated taking the day off work but think I will struggle on in and see how I go.

Thank you for all the lovely comments re DN. Have spent a large portion of the weekend having lovely newborn snuggles. DH was a bit worried that I was going to get broody I think but that has definitely not happened. Quite the opposite. As my sister tells of sleepless nights I just snuggle and then give him back knowing I can come back to my bed grin.

Not a big list today as over the weekend have managed to keep the place tidy so just routines really.

To do:-
Morning routine
Washing
Evening routine
DS and his bike to cubs
Marking

Back later.

laurenamium Mon 04-Feb-13 08:14:24

Ergh sore throat this morning. I thought it might have been due to leaving the heating on over night but it hasn't got better yet which it usually does quite quickly after a drink.

List posted last night so will crack on. Mindees are engrossed in play dough so I can potter in the kitchen for a few mins.

Hi lauren nice to see you back. I fell off the thread too due to the speed of it but back for a calmer feb. smile

Thanks for all the links blue smile

Eh up fledglings

Must admit - not really feeling it here this morning either*Bitchy*!! - proffers brew

Many happy returns to your ds though - hope he has a lovely birthday!! smile

It's a grey day here weather-wise...dd is at home ill again with high temp [sigh] ... last Monday it was a teaching day ...before that I was ill....before that, mil health crisis....before that dd was ill again.... now I know why I gave up art acad. Seems ridiculous that someone with only one child, who only works on average 10 hrs a week, can't study for two days a week on a regular basis, but that's how it has worked out. All the health probs/school hols seem to fall on a Mon and Tues!!! Sorry - those of you who work full time/regular days, and are juggling two or more dc - must think I am hopelessly incompetent and whingy.

Had baby-sitter in place for after school run/ballet run/hwk supervision - but can't justify expense to have her on hold for whole days at a time for a non-earning reason - even if I could find someone who was available one week and not the next (if that makes sense).

On the other hand - I now have no excuse not to do proper Flying!! [tries to sound enthusiastic] Plan is to work hard on chores today so I can do something creative/more interesting tomorrow.

To do:
morning routine inc wm, dw, s&s, rabbits done
four kitchen bins cleaned done
15 mins kitchen declutter done
home bleurgh (ground floor only) - half way through
ironing - 45 mins in 3 x 15 min chunks
decluttering in boudoir and home office - 45 mins in 3 x 15 min chunks
prep supper
French study
walk (if dh gets home at reasonable hour)
resolve Playmobil house table issue
more laundry
rest of car/handbag decluttering I didn't do on Friday
dd to doctor
Afternoon/evening routine
Try and get back on MFP
Blah blah blah etc

Right, now I've written it out, I had better try and finish it.

Thanks for links Blue
Good luck with marking Engels
Sorry you are feeling under the weather Ellie
Glad you are feeling better Lauren
Good luck with your busy week Whoknows
Hope interview goes well today Lilleth

Hi to everyone else!

superfluouscurves Mon 04-Feb-13 09:53:31

Good luck with your list Bitchy!

Jdub Mon 04-Feb-13 10:06:30

Happy Monday everyone, and what beautiful news for your sister elliepac - really amazing. There are some real golden people around aren't there.

Not a busy tidying weekend for me, but a really lovely fun filled with lots of cooking, games and playing (and hardly any shouting!) Shame to be back at work as it goes TOO quickly!

done
up, dressed, fed and out

sent OH shopping list
School forms/playschool snack returned to correct places

to do
sort the stuff in the bottom drawer as I can't face that dodgy cupboard
put laundry away

Have a lovely day everyone!

Snowgirl1 Mon 04-Feb-13 10:07:54

Morning all

Done so far:
Up and ready for work
Sandwiches made
Bed made
Washing on

Still to do
Put tomorrow's clothes out
Hang washing out
Change our sheets
Wash towels
Clean out kitchen bins
15 min declutter or 15 mins detailed cleaning? Decisions, decisions...
Shine sink
S&S

So we're back in the kitchen zone this week? That's where I started - I can't believe I've been doing this for 4 weeks.

ToffeeWhirl Mon 04-Feb-13 10:23:02

Ta da :

Up and dressed
Packed lunch made
DS2's morning routine
School run (arrived on time grin)
Quick shop
Emptied bins
Put rubbish out
Unloaded d/w
B/fast for me and DS1
Reloaded d/w
Wiped kitchen surfaces

Yesterday, DH went out and, weirdly, I got loads more done. Why is it easier when DHs are not around? confused I took the boys swimming then, when we got home, I managed to tidy the kitchen, sort the washing, cook Chilli con Carne and tackle the kitchen hotspot (it took half an hour and I discovered Christmas cards and my Christmas Day cooking itinerary at the bottom of the heap blush. As well as an appointment letter that I had chased up complaining that it hadn't arrived blush blush).

Boys were in bed on time. DS2 spent some time telling me how unhappy he is at school. Don't know what to do. He copes well when he's there and he's made lots of friends, but he says there should be a new word invented to describe it, which would be a mix of boredom and hell sad.

Need to do lots of home ed with DS1 this morning, so that I'm free to do a house bleugh after lunch.

lauren - glad to see you've found us again smile.

Sorry for all those feeling yukky and/or ill this morning or with DC feeling that way.

MrsPennyapple Mon 04-Feb-13 10:31:45

Nick - Glad to hear you have had a good weekend

Bitchy - Happy birthday to your DS, hope its a good day

SC - Hope your DD gets better soon. My DD had slapped cheek a while ago too, something that I hadn't heard of till recently either.

Toffee - I think its much easier when DH isn't around as he just asks what am I doing that for and it will get done. I dont know when he thinks it will get done, but he's not one for 5 mins here and 15 mins there, but to just say right Im going to tidy x room today and get it all done. Though he is a much better cleaner than I am.
Also sorry to hear your DS2 is having a hard time, hope something gets better soon for him.

<waves to everyone else>

feetheart Mon 04-Feb-13 13:03:07

Afternoon everyone! Bit late posting but have been doing stuff.

Ellie - what amazing news for your whole family, congratulations grin

Toffee - sorry DS2 isn't happy at school, its really hard isn't it and I know you have been there before. What is it he doesn't like? I know my DS doesn't like the noise at school at times and gets very fed-up with others not behaving and the whole class missing out on things. However it has taken a while for him to articulate that and I know they are a similar age. Would be very interested to know if your DS comes up with an appropriate word.

Had quite a busy w/e - shopping for new cooker (as old one blew its element again and I had had enough) Ended up getting a 'Great British Bake-Off' Neff one but without the slide-under door, much to DC's disappointment smile) Unfortunately it won't be delivered to shop until w/c 25th Feb so I have to juggle with the dodgy tiny top furnace oven until then, including two birthday cakes - eek!
Also shopped for shower room extension which should be happening from mid-May <<fingers-crossed emoticon>> then fed 8 for Sunday dinner - 3 adults and 5 children plus one beef brisket in the slow-cooker - was yummy and VERY easy.

Ta da:
- All up and out
- 3 loads washing so far, inc a 90C one - two loads now OUT on line
- S&S

- Clean out bin and cupboard
- Hall hotspots
- Make Rocky Road (yummmm)
- Make Macaroni cheese for dinner
- Clean kitchen floor
- Library with DC (DD is devouring books at the moment)

MrsPennyapple Mon 04-Feb-13 14:41:28

I pegged my washing out on the line this morning, and had to run outside to retrieve it from the vegetable bed TWICE. I gave in and brought it back in. It had been out a couple of hours though, so was drier that if it hadn't been out. I hate drying indoors too, the airers just seem permanently in the way, no matter what I want to do!

List update whilst I'm here and sitting with a brew:

Done
Vacuum upstairs
Laundry in
Tidy kitchen
Wash up
Strip bed
Made bed
Empty bins
Shine sink
Empty compost bucket

Make marmalade (as much as I can do today anyway)

To do
Vacuum lounge
S&S bathroom
Phone car insurance people
Make hair appointment

ToffeeWhirl Mon 04-Feb-13 14:54:51

Lilleth - thanks for kind words about DS2. Hope interview goes well <crosses fingers>.

Feet - I think DS2 is just really bored by the routine and lack of challenge at school. He is being given books that are too easy to read and he hates the fact that they have to keep practising spellings he already knows. He said the teacher made them revise how to spell 'so' again the other day confused. He also hates school lunches (the smells), so he doesn't eat properly because he can't get out of the dining room fast enough. DS1 had such a dreadful time at school because of his SNs that I thought DS2 would be ok, but I realise he is probably just as unhappy. It's a good school, but it has big classes, like all state schools. Maybe it just doesn't suit my children.

Of course, it doesn't help that he knows his big brother is being home educated, but I don't think that affects how he feels about school. It just means he knows there is an option.

Finished home ed for today. Have to do a quick room rescue downstairs, then collect DS2 and his new friend from school.

<waves to all>

One of the key phrases around here is "nobody likes going to school" Tbh i don't many people like school. It is more a case of if it is doing harm or good. But then I hated and detested school the entire way through when i wasn't bunking off

MercuryRising Mon 04-Feb-13 17:24:58

So I went to talk about voluntary work. I wore officey clothes (ie trousers, top and black boots with a little bit of Make Up) and felt as though I did the right thing. I now have to fill out a form and take it back in on Friday, then wait for my CRB to pass and then I can get started.

Sorry or no personals, Im feeling a bit tired now. Hope everyone has had a good day and is having a good evening.

bakerofcakes Mon 04-Feb-13 20:12:46

Hi fledglings

have had a busy weekend, plenty of flying and lots of babysitting done. I caught up with last week's missions and did my home bleugh on Sunday. Busy day at work today and spent the evening uploading photos to Photobox so only done basic routines today.

Jamillalliamilli Mon 04-Feb-13 21:18:46

Remote control operates stretcher into naughty corner. I'm stuffed. I have one half working limb out of a possible four, and too much pain to even do flat on back stuff. If I was an animal I'd be put out of my misery!

_ Still to do_
anesthetise self
teach ds basics of shirt ironing
anesthetise self
Listen to friend
anesthetise self
sleep

Just shocksad sorry you are in sooo much pain and suffering so much.

<piles logs onto log fire in naughty corner>
yeah well it's freezing out there, thought the naughty corner needed cosying up

Oh Just, sorry to hear that. sad

Was coming on to moan about having a bit of a lurgy and feeling generally crap, but seems wrong now.

Still, need to get to bed so will just do quick links and try and be back properly tomorrow.

***************
Babystep 5 - the power of positive thinking.

elliepac Tue 05-Feb-13 06:45:04

Back this evening.

feetheart Tue 05-Feb-13 07:04:40

Just - I hope you got some decent sleep and feel a bit better today. Lots of good MN vibes to you.

Bitchy - mmmm, log fire, snuggly smile
Hope DS had a great birthday

Toffee - no wonder he is fed up, that's rubbish. At least I know DS is being stretched. However he did come out yesterday and very sorrowfully said that he was sure today would be a 'headache day'. When questioned he told me which teachers he would be having because his teacher was away - he is probably going to be right as the class is much noisier when she isn't there sad
What would happen if you talked to teacher about what he is saying? Is she still the one you had huge run-ins with DS1?

MrsPennyapple - I had to retrieve DH's fleece from high up in the apple tree, using a long bamboo cane shock. Hope you didn't have to wash anything again.

Didn't get much of my list done yesterday as ended up talking/listening to a friend who is having a bit of a rough time. At least I felt useful as a sounding board. So list for today may be a little repetitive:

- Order crafty stuff for DD's birthday sleepover - we are having an owl theme smile done
- All up and out
- S&S, washing up, etc
- Soup and salmon out of freezer for tonight - easy dinner night
- Errands for surrogate granny
- Try not to stay at surrogate granny's for too long afterwards
- WORK - monthly invoices, bank rec, etc
- Reading at school
- DS and DH to Beavers, DD to Brownies
- 45mins to myself if I'm lucky - ebay listing
- Ironing

That's more than enough!
Have a good day everyone, without too much snow, wind, etc.

list update
dig car out of snow - road conditions back not bothering
training - snowed in
hospital run snowed in
ds to training ds poorly unlikely to happen
bed

*New to do list*: sleep

*bad road conditions not back.

GoingGoingGoth Tue 05-Feb-13 08:34:19

Morning all, slow start today, didn't sleep, and can't be arsed to be honest.

Am slowly getting Dd ready, whilst considering going back to bed.

to do
Change DD's bedding
Put laundry on
Put away dry clothes
Finish crotchet ing DD's jumper

Snowgirl1 Tue 05-Feb-13 08:55:45

Morning all

Just sorry to hear you're feeling so poorly.

I managed to finish my list yesterday so am feeling quite pleased with myself. Maybe I'm just writing more realistic lists?

Done so far:
Up, showered etc.
Sandwiches made
Bed made
Out to work

Still to do:
Ring building society to make appointment
Ring doctor's to make an appointment
Put tomorrow's clothes out
Hang washing out
Put another load of washing on
Mission - clean worktops
15 mins decluttering or detailed cleaning
Go for a run (it's time the head torch I got for Christmas got pressed into action!)
Maybe put some stuff on eBay

Hope you all have productive days!

Jdub Tue 05-Feb-13 09:32:57

Hello everybody,
It's so cold but so pretty here today - such a breath of fresh air to see sunshine and blue sky!

I managed last night to sort dodgy drawer number one, and found receipts and filing in there from WAY, WAY back! My house is a lot of paper lighter this morning!!

done
chuck paper in recycling!
all up, dressed, rooms aired, beds made, fed and out on time.
d/w emptied

to do
laundry away
dust lounge
meal plan/food out of freeze/pulses in to soak
sort 2nd dodgy drawer and box in bedroom
clean upstairs bathroom
one load of washing

Take care and have a good day!

ToffeeWhirl Tue 05-Feb-13 09:41:48

Feet - yes, it's the same teacher. We have parents' evening coming up soon, so I could raise the matter then. How do I phrase it so that I don't sound like I'm a) criticising her and b) I have delusions of grandeur about my son? I dread sounding like one of those people who used to come into the bookshop, during my bookselling days, and say, "My son is a very advanced reader, you know...." <sigh>. Funny how everyone's children was so advanced hmm. But DS has just finished reading the David Walliams' books at home (highly recommend, by the way) and is being given books like 'The Little Red Train' at school.

Also, the class has frequent supply teachers because the class teacher is busy organising school events. There were supply teachers all last week (different one every day) because the teacher was ill (not that she can help that). And there was another one there today because she's doing her paperwork. DS2 quietly puts up with it, but I don't think it's good for any of the children there and how can the teacher know what level the children are at if they she isn't there? confused

Sorry for thread hijack everyone. Forgot this was a Flying thread for a minute there blush.

Just - so sorry you are suffering sad. That sounds awful. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Ellie - And you too. You are a trooper going in to school again today.

Got to get ready for DS1's Maths tutor now. Room rescue required! BBL.

LillethTheCat Tue 05-Feb-13 09:47:26

Morning, lovely sunny morning, but there has been a bit of snow here, not much and hardly anything (much to the disappointment of DD1).

tada
- Turn on Washing Machine
- make beds
- Wash up after breakfast

to do
- 2nd load
- Dry Laundry
- Put laundry away
- Wash up 2X
- Shine Sink
- Tidy up room after DCs are in bed
- Get tomorrows clothes ready
- tomorrow's list
- 5 min cupboard room rescue
- Fill out form for voluntary work
- Go to running club weather permitting
- Fill Washing machine ready for Wed
- Daily Mission (wish Id looked last night as I would have done it straight from washing up. Now Ive sat down, but will have to get up again now to do it, as right now is the best time, so off I go)

Sorry to hear you are in pain Just hope it wears off soon.

Will be back later with a proper catch up, must go and do kitchen sides now.

Toffee they can't and tbh I would be unhappy with that class setup. Very unhappy. No wonder ds2 is not feeling great about school.

ToffeeWhirl Tue 05-Feb-13 11:39:22

No, it's not good, is it, Bitchy? DS1 used to go ballistic about school, which means DS2's quiet complaints have been easy for me to overlook in comparison, but now I'm worried. I think he just puts up with it every day. Poor boy. Am not sure how much can change there, to be honest. Am tempted to start looking at other schools again <sigh>.

Not much Flying done here so far. I did sort the kitchen out before bed last night (DH busy listening to music and reading whilst I was putting DSs to bed hmm), so there wasn't much to do this morning, apart from washing up and swishing and swiping in the bathroom. Feeling knackered today after failing to get much sleep last night, so have a very small list:

Home ed
Lunch
Nap if possible <hopeful>
School run
Special time with DS2 to cheer him up
Dinner
Washing up
Pilates class
wine
Zzzzz

ToffeeWhirl Tue 05-Feb-13 11:41:16

Just re-read my earlier post. That should read: 'funny how everyone's child was so advanced' not children. Tsk tsk. And me a proofreader too.

NickNacks Tue 05-Feb-13 12:12:25

Hello everyone,

I fell off the Flywagon... But I'm hauling myself back on. I'm about to dash to the supermarket so can't catch up with everybody at the moment but I will do later. (Get the general impression people are doing very well.... I can't believe that I've not been working for a month and I still haven't made much headway on the clutter...sad)

Ok, so, so far list is:

Ta da
Children, up, dressed, kit together for Forest School
School run
Jogging for 35 minutes non-stop! (quite pleased with that one)
Shower AND hair wash AND dry (pleased with the drying bit - rarely happens)

Another wash on

Cook supper for DCs
Cook supper for me and DH
Tidy kitchen
Shine sink

Where does the time go!? I swear I don't sit around all day drinking tea and have only met up for coffee twice in 4 weeks! Must. get. hugely. more. efficient. Seem to be dashing around just to maintain status quo...!

SilveryMoon Tue 05-Feb-13 18:17:08

Hi. I'm still here just had a busy few days. Still keeping on top of things and routines. Did yesterday's mission but not 15 min zone work. Planning on that todaythough. Might clean out the cutlery drawer.
Hope everyone's Ok. Will bbl to catch up

SilveryMoon Tue 05-Feb-13 20:04:15

OMG. Just had the biggest fright, I'll tell you what, I'm gonna kill my Grandad myself!
I get a call from my cousin saying that Grandad's neighbour called him to say she hasn't seen GD since Saturday, his lights have been off, no answer on the phone or door.
My cousin lives a long way away (but I'm in London and GD is Essex), so called to say he's asked the police to go round.
I'm sitting here thinking the worst, cousin asked me to tell my mum (is maternal GD), but I called my dad (they are separated but close) coz he'd know what to do. He's had a word with my mum and told her it doesn't look good. No one drives, so can't just get over there quick, and even if could, then what?
Police and ambulance break in to GD's. He's not there.
Turns up half hour later wanting to know what all these people are doing in his house!
Policeman said he is certainly a character! grin

Thank God he's ok. I've not seen him in 4 years. Think I'm going to need to make more of an effort before he actually does go.

GoingGoingGoth Tue 05-Feb-13 20:27:47

Oh god Silvery I bet you were a wreck. So pleased he's alright. It's nice that his neighbour is keeping an eye for him.

Dinner (easy, baked potatoes & I made coleslaw yesterday)

Almost completed 2 sleeves to DD's latest jumper.

And finally mopped up bathroom, Dd has been doing natural disasters at school and it looks like she's tried to recreate a tsunami! Hopefully got it all, before it started running down downstairs walls. angry sad

superfluouscurves Tue 05-Feb-13 21:35:20

[Waves from saggy armchair in naughty corner]

A swimming through treacle sort of day. I have done absolutely naff all tbh aside from most basic of routinesblush. DD was still at home ill - but not ill enough to not need entertaining ifyswim - she's back at school tomorrow. Playmobil all over dining room table put an end to my crafting ambitions and didn't have energy to protest. Should have Flown, cooked or done something productive but er, didn't ....so only have myself to blame.

Realised I am absolutely desperate for some time alone but school half day tomorrow, followed by Thurs/Fri then half term ....gaaaaahhhh!

Anyway, enough of my constant whinging...!!

Silvery glad your grandfather is OK ... you must have been v. worried

Just so sorry you are still in such pain and so restricted in your movements - must be so frustrating for you - hope you feel better soon thanks And hope you are able to get the proper medical support you deserve too.

Hope you survived your long day at school and start to feel better soon Ellie

Toffee sorry your ds2 is finding it such tough going at school

Right, if I can get off my can't-be-arse-(d!) I'm going to force myself to shine sink, then for a bit of therapeutic bunny brushing ...

Feetheart arf at apple tree fleece retrieval grin

Big wing flaps to everyone else!!!

Cuddledup Tue 05-Feb-13 21:37:01

Sorry only had time to do a quick scan - Toffee I'd be hugely concerned re: DS's school and you don't sound like an over fussy parent. Silver yikes about your grandad but massive relief that he's ok.

Quick list dump...
ta da
Morning routine
Work - blah blah
Washed floors downstairs and in bathrooms
Cleaned one bathroom
Took DD to/from Brownies
Learned how to download stuff onto Kindle
bins/ kitchen / shone my sink
Got DD's bag ready for tomorrow's school trip
Now off to bed at a vaguely decent hour -

Hope all are well.

Good evening!

I’ve done very little flying today, but have managed some work and am feeling marginally less grotty which is a bonus.

One ta da! though – put up some more hooks in the understairs cupboard so boys can reach their own aprons and got somewhere for the dustpan.

Just - hope today has been better.

Ellie - likewise, and that the options evening went well.

Bitchy - hope being snowed in means you’ve taken it easy!

Lileth - glad the volunteering interview/chat went well.

Toffee - sorry to hear DS2 is having a hard time at school. Hope you can manage to talk to the teacher.

Feet - grin shock at fleece-retrieval!

Jdub - Whoop! Well done on clearing paper clutter <bestows Golden Duster award>

Going - well done on doing stuff too. smile

Beginner - it is indeed a mystery where the time goes. Sounds like you’re doing pretty well to me, though.

Silvery - so pleased everything’s OK, must have been such a worry!

SC - hope the treacle has receded now. Ill-but-not-that-ill kids are the worst, IMHO, which is why I pack them off to school if I possibly can. [mean mummy]

******************
Anyway, here come tomorrow’s links:

Babystep 6 is all about hotspots and putting out thereof – very important.

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day which means doing the things you’ve been putting off.

Mission is scrubbing the taps.
********************

I have a list as long as my arm of things I’ve been procrastinating over, but not prepared to bet that any of them will have been done tomorrow evening either. Sigh.

Big waves to all – I really am going to get an early night tonight!

superfluouscurves Tue 05-Feb-13 21:46:40

Thanks for links Blue And sorry - I somehow missed yesterday that you were feeling ill - glad you are on the mend now though!!

ToffeeWhirl Tue 05-Feb-13 23:26:22

Silvery - that must have been such a scare for you all, but it did make me giggle to think of your GD turning up, demanding what everyone was doing in his house! I think you're right - you need to go and see him.

Thanks for reassuring words about DS2 and school. It's so hard to know when it's right to make a fuss. I will certainly raise the matter with the teacher at the parents' evening, although I'm not sure how much good that will do. Also, DH and I have booked ourselves in to an open day at another local school on Friday.

DS2 didn't see his teacher today (another supply teacher this morning, then a PE teacher this afternoon), but he seemed stoic about it and we had a lovely time making apple muffins together when he got home.

Downstairs is looking surprisingly tidy at the moment. Not quite sure how that happened confused. Will try and keep it this way for as long as possible <vain hope>.

Night all.

Cuddledup Wed 06-Feb-13 07:15:42

Blue I hope you're feeling better today, I think putting up hooks yesterday sounds like a major achievement. (Thats the sort of thing I procrastinate over!)
Toffee I do hope DS has a better day at school. Is it worth flagging this constant use of supply teachers to the authorities.? Good idea to look at another school.
Today is Anti procrastination day - which has become my favourite day because I feel SO happy when I get to cross off things on my anti procrastination list. (I procrastinate so much I even have a special list for today!!) My big thing today is returning an electric guitar and speakers to my work colleague who lent them to me 18 months ago- this declutters the attic!. I started learning but gave up.

Have a good day everyone.

feetheart Wed 06-Feb-13 09:27:50

Day will need to be rearranged as I have DS home with headache, cold, generally feeling grotty. He is currently back in his beloved onesie, curled up on sofa and has found Africa Cup of Nations to watch.

Toffee - I will PM you about our experience with DD and school as I may go on a bit have a lot to say.

Silvery - hope you have recovered from events with your Grandad (bet you haven't though!) Hope he didn't give emergency services too much of a hard time smile

Quick, revised list:
- Posters for School Assoc events - done
- Tickets created for School Assoc disco - done
- DH, DD up and out - done
- Washing on - done
- S&S - done
- DS ministered to - done for the moment
- Work - in fits and starts I feel hmm
- Missions
- Read 'How to Train Your Dragon' book to DS - Toffee has your DS found those ones - we all love them. There is a lot of David Walliams/Dragon book swapping going on between all four of us at the moment smile
- Sweep and mop kitchen floor
- Clear out at least one kitchen cupboard
- Various anti-procrastinating jobs instead of concentrated working day

Should be back later.
have a good day everyone.

ToffeeWhirl Wed 06-Feb-13 09:56:58

Feet - DS1 absolutely loves those Dragon books! I have just ordered him the last two, as he forgot about them for a bit. You are right - I must pass them on to DS2 as well. We are a bit stuck now he's finished the Walliams ones and, if I'm not careful, he'll go back to 'Horrid Henry' (have had enough Horrid Henry to last me a lifetime). Thanks for saying you'll PM me.

CuddledUp - the teacher was back today, but I think I should start making notes on how often supply teachers or other teachers at the school are teaching her class, so I get an accurate picture. Am not planning to take it any further at the moment.

Thanks for reminding me it's anti-procrastination day. I really need one of those - I have so many things I have shelved because they are boring/too much effort. Have made a list and will try to get some done today.

Blue - hope you are on the mend.
Just - you too.
Trazzle - thinking of you and Joe as he starts chemo.

So far today...

Up and dressed on time
Before-school routine
Put washing on
School run
Shop
Breakfasts for me and DS1
Swish and swipe

To do :
Home ed till lunchtime
Tackle things on anti-procrastination list
Deal with washing

What's for dinner? Make something up out of what's in freezer/cupboards

Ds is refusing school. Massive temper here this morning. Got to bottom of it. He is currently in the bath calming down. He will be back at school tomo and there will be a letter novel going into school.

Argh - DS has started to watch the BBC Olympic DVDs we got for Christmas - I have already cried once and we are only 10mins into the Opening Ceremony blush

It is going to be a very very very very long day! Ds is throwing another temper. angry

Some days counting to ten just isn't enough!

Not doing too well today. My temperature has gone right up & I've just had DS2 delivered back from the childminder with a high temp, crying wanting to sleep. Now got to decide what to do about DS1, whether CM will bring him back here after school or if someone's got to get him at the normal time.

ToffeeWhirl Wed 06-Feb-13 12:36:46

So sorry for all of you having stressful days sad.

Blue - do you want me to take over the thread for a bit till you and your DS feel better?

Thanks, Toffee - that would be great. DS2 is currently asleep on the sitting room floor having refused to go to bed. sad

ToffeeWhirl Wed 06-Feb-13 14:15:42

Oh dear, you poor thing, Blue. I'm very happy to take over for now. I hope you and DS2 get well soon.

GoingGoingGoth Wed 06-Feb-13 16:56:12

I've got a job!!!! grin grin grin grin grin

Doesn't start till Easter, and not got all the details yet, but be nice not to sign on.

Congratulations Goth!!!

Right I have just put foot down and will be pulling ds out of swimming. I am fed up of the battles. There are some that are worth fighting and some that just aren't. The battle to get him in school is far more important right now.

So I was on the phone to my parents today and we were talking about a family we know. Like my parents this couple go on holiday the same time of year each year (its actually how they know each other as its the same destination). My mum told me today that they might not be going at the same time this year as their DD2 is pregnant with her first child and its due the same time they go away. Fair enough none of that bothers me, but what did is the way my mum told me as though she was mocking this couple for even thinking that. What also annoyed me was that my DC3 was due at the same time and it never even occured to my parents to even think about going at a different time of year. That on its own didn't bother me, but Im just bothered why my mum seems to think its such a bad thing to do something a little different due to some such occurance. No wonder Im not close to them. Then again they (especially my mum) are very much the type who is happy to do you a favour as long as it is on their terms. Also if they want a favour it still has to be on their terms. Anyway rant over.

sorry to hear that there have been some trying times for people on here.
Toffee Good idea about looking round another school. Hope something gets sorted soon.
Bitchy Well today is nearly over, hope tomorrow is a better one for you. Get your feet up wine
Feet Hope your DS gets better soon
Blue Hope you get better soon.

There must be something in the air. Ive had a bit of a deflation day regarding a couple of things. Ive done my normal daily things, but nothing extra (apart from the skip, but that wasn't something I could avoid). Im feeling a bit umph due to lack of exercise and lack of will power to eat sensibly. I need to get back into a routine, but right now I just CBA. Maybe when the weather gets a bit nicer I might get the bug again (well i certainly hope so)

Yey Goth Congratulations. Easter will soon be here.

<waves to everyone else>

Cuddledup Wed 06-Feb-13 21:41:55

Goth brilliant news about the job - well done you must be chuffed to bits.
Blue I hope your temp has come down and DS2 is feeling a bit better.
Lilleth I agree there is definitely something in the air today that hasn't been so good. I had great plans for anti-procrastination day (ie: clear MT Washmore from the spare room bed) but ex P left a rather threatening voicemail on my iphone and I went into a tailspin of depression. I had to take solace in a large glass of gin - kindly provided by DH. It was only 5.30 ! Needless to say FLYing went out the window and I've spent the evening chilling out looking at holiday brochures with DD!

ANyway the sink is shiny, kitchen is clean but I've no idea what to wear for work tomorrow - oh well.

GoingGoingGoth Wed 06-Feb-13 22:17:01

Thanks to everyone for the good wishes. grin bit nervous about being full time again, but looking forward to not being office based. Hopefully by Easter Flying will be 2nd nature and with Dh helping out, the flat will stay clean & tidy hmm

today's Ta-dahs
Dd to school
Beds
Windows
S&S
Litter tray
Washing up
5 min tidy in DD's bedroom
Bins out
Dry washing away

Wash up, scrub taps & SS
Completed DD's jumper

Bitchy can understand why you've stopped the swimming, hope tomorrow is better
Blue hope you all fell better soon, although looking forward to Toffee's drunk posts (well on my way too)

ToffeeWhirl Wed 06-Feb-13 22:38:47

Sorry, Ellie, I fell asleep with DS2 and am now sober again. Hmm, could have another glass to inspire me though....

ToffeeWhirl Wed 06-Feb-13 22:40:02

Damnit, DH has polished off the bottle angry. Am now making myself a hot chocolate instead.

Back in a mo with linkies.

ToffeeWhirl Wed 06-Feb-13 22:50:29

Thursday's links:

Babystep 7 is very important and one of the most useful, I think: lay out tomorrow's clothes before you go to bed.

Thursday is errand day.

And the mission is to wipe down your large kitchen appliances - dishwasher, fridge, etc.

Reading through thread now. Back with a round up in a mo.

<slurps hot chocolate>

ToffeeWhirl Wed 06-Feb-13 23:20:00

Well, it's been a mixed bag for everyone today and I notice a number of people turning to alcohol for solace.

<stern look>

<nudges empty wine bottles out of sight>

Cuddledup started the day well with high hopes of decluttering (did you get rid of the guitar?), but was brought back down to earth by phone call from exP angry. Gin, DH and holiday brochures brought some comfort.

Feet was looking after a poorly DS and weeping at the Olympic DVD. (Thanks to your tip about 'How to Train Your Dragon', I started reading the first in the series to DS2 tonight, then left him to read for half an hour. He couldn't put the book down! smile).

Bitchy had a very difficult day with DS refusing to go to school. Hope you have found the reason, Bitchy, and that tomorrow is better. Good idea to eliminate the swimming battle. There are only so many battles we can fight.

GoingGoingGoth has been doing lots of Flying and sewing. She also managed to get herself a new job grin. Congratulations!

Blue and her DS2 are both ill sad. Hope you are both on the mend soon.

Lilleth was upset by her DM's insensitive comments and confessed that she was having a CBA day. If that's what her lists look like on a CBA day, I dread to think how impressive they would be on a CAN-BA day!

Ellie managed to break her phone screen and her boiler packed up. Like so many of us, she sought comfort in the evil drink.

Silvery impressed us all with her proper Flying list, including washing all her cutlery and making lunches for tomorrow shock. She rewarded herself with wine smile.

I have had a good day home educating and a poor day Flying. Will try to remedy that now by tackling the messy kitchen before bed and laying out my clothes.

See you all tomorrow.

Thanks for the links and round up toffee

Yeah reason found. not alot i can do though unless someone can wave a magic wand and wizz up some social skills for ds. Oh and to get him to stop obsessing over something he has been obsessing over for the last 3 years.

Back to school tomo. <stomps foot>

Going to make tomo m anti-procrastination day as i did the errands today.

SilveryMoon Thu 07-Feb-13 06:48:15

Morning.
Just for the record, I don't do 'proper' flying. I don't often do missions but do 15 min detail clean instead and I'm still not doing babysteps.
Routines are going well though.
I'm thinking that after a few months it won't take quite as long to do everything so I'll get more done in 15 mins and might even fit the missions in. (I made note last year of every mission and added them to my detail list so they do get done. Sometimes).
Feeling rough but off to work.
Have a good day

superfluouscurves Thu 07-Feb-13 08:14:40

Blue Sorry to hear you and your ds2 are feeling so rotten... hope you get better soon.

Many thanks Toffee for stepping in ...

Congratulations on your new job Goth! You'll be brill! smile

Cuddledup Sorry your exp was horrible and upset you angry

Lilleth Sympathies over the situation with your mum... sounds really hurtful and a bit like situation with my late ma ... she got on a plane once in the past 20 years but instead of choosing to go and see the one daughter and sil who live abroad + newly born grand-daughter and their house which she had never seen (ie us!) she went on holiday to the Canaries!!! Hey ho!! She wasn't being intentionally mean because she simply couldn't get why I was a bit hmm.

Feetheart aw at your ds in his onesie!! Hope he feels a lot better soon.

Lilleth ditto over lack of will power regarding diet!! (I'm hoping to get there by the start of Lent on the 13th but I don't think motivation alone is going to cut it somehow - esp given the fact that I keep dreaming of lasagne grin!)

Bitchy hope you and ds had a better morning today

Ellie sorry to hear about essential bits of equipment packing up on you

Encouraging wing flaps to Silvery and everyone else!

Well I just knew threre was a reason why I should have Flown earlier in the week blush Am now in the throes of sewing costumes for school musical
(Saint-Saens Carnival of the Animals) and dd's "Carnaval" costume tomorrow (cow-girl). With regard to latter, thought I would make do with material supplies I have rather than buy anything new, so am now circling the house eyeing up dh's old favourite suede jacket anything potentially disposable and leather wink...

Feeling like one of 'those' stage mothers for first time, because in addition to above, dd has last minute song/ballet opportunity to audition for part in Peter Pan today and had precisely one and a half hours last night (outside of hwk and scheduled ballet lesson) to learn 3 bits of French dialogue, two songs, and one dance (and for me to rustle up suitable 'Wendy' costume ie nightie) and so we've had "the songs from the shows" before bed and before breakfast and on the school run. Being of a very delicate/grumpy disposition of a morning ...am now in need of strong coffee ...

superfluouscurves Thu 07-Feb-13 09:20:39

Meant 'delicate' in the "night owl" sense - not the alcoholic sense - honest grin!!!

I'm new here, hello all! Love the energy of this thread. Off to shine my sink now before heading to exercise class. smile

superfluouscurves Thu 07-Feb-13 10:07:01

A very warm welcome to Lovehope!

Jdub Thu 07-Feb-13 10:11:04

Crikey crumbs! Overwhelmed at receipt of Golden Duster!!!
Just wish I could sustain my efforts! Sunday night and I am all set for the week, but come Wednesday night and I really start to lose impetus and momentum! I sit at work and make my lists and think 'yeah - I'll easily get that all sorted later' and by mid/end of the week, I'm knackered after work and then getting the small people to bed!!!

and so, my done list comprises
d/w emptied
up/dressed etc etc
nearly forgot my packed lunch - had to go back in to get it!

to do
make cheese scones
plan inset day activities
hotspots in my room
put away laundry
put a load of laundry on

I really love cooking but of an evening, the prospect of washing up/waiting for stuff to cool down always seems less attractive at 8.30pm than it does at 10.15am!!

Have a lovely day - it's beautiful here - golden sunshine!

LillethTheCat Thu 07-Feb-13 11:27:01

Thanks for the links and round up Toffee.
Blue hope you are OK and you are back to normal soon.

Have to laugh at how apparently my list looks great, when in reality the maximum time something takes me is 10 mins (apart from washing up). A lot of my list is simply 30 sec stuff. Yesterday everything (apart from going to the skip which is 20 mins there, 5 mins emptying car, 20 mins back) took me just over 2 hours all in. Its not exactly a huge amount. I should be doing far more. If I spent an extra hour a day (15 mins a time with 10 min breaks) I would achieve a whole load more.

Anyway to todays list

tada
- make beds
- Turn on washing machine
- Dry laundry
- Wash up after breakfast

to do
- put laundry away
- fill washing machine for Fri
- Wash up after lunch
- Shine Sink (if DH has washed up after tea as I wont get in till 10)
- Fri list
- Tidy up front room after DCs are in bed
- Get tomorrow's clothes ready
- go to AAT course.
- Ring airline with a quick question about payments (going to do now)

Ellie hope you manage to sort your phone out.
Cuddled Apart from the voicemail message angry sounds like a lovely evening.
SC Hope you manage to get the costumes and practicing sorted.
Lovehope Welcome.
Jdub know the feeling regarding losing the will after a while. Its all very easy and exciting to make a list and imagine it all being done, but to actually do it.....

<waves to everyone else>

Have you seen this thread? Sounds something that we can put on our lists. Im going to try it tomorrow. Is it bad that I saw the thread and thought of you all?

See this would be bad for asthma sufferers, but then they shouldn't really be having air fresheners of any kind so meh.

By posting this I hope to wake up tomorrow with everything working and make a liar of myself!

Congratulations on the job! smile

SilveryMoon Thu 07-Feb-13 20:36:06

Evening. No flying here today. Got home from work and fell asleep on sofa.
Have just done basic routines.
Hopefully more productive tomorrow but ds1 has football training in the evening so doubt it.
Looking forward to washing machine coming on Saturday, mount washmore is huge!

Cuddledup Thu 07-Feb-13 21:47:55

Just I'm so sorry you're having such a bad time at the moment. I hope the pain eases off a bit.
SIlvery an evening snooze sounds a v good idea IMO.

Ta da
Morning routine - done
Day got off to good start as I was able to email someone at breakfast time and tell them that the organisiation I work for was awarding them some money.

Supper and did kitchen tidy up - whilst drinking gin
cleaned bathroom
Wrote old school newsletter
15 mins of exercise
Shined sink and am now on the wine!

Tomorrow
No work for me, we usually go for a walk but as the weather is looking dire, it'll be a day at home decluttering, tackling Mt Washmore (whilst watching telly) and the anti procrastination list.

HOpe you're all well.

ToffeeWhirl Thu 07-Feb-13 23:05:30

Friday's babystep is to start your control journal.

Your mission is to sweep and mop your kitchen floor unless, like me, your wonderful cleaner did it for you today grin.

Friday is declutter your handbag and car day.

Back in a mo when I've read the thread.

ToffeeWhirl Thu 07-Feb-13 23:39:59

Thursday round-up

Bitchy was stunned to find her school-refusing DS up and ready for school before the alarm went off this morning. Hope he had a good day back.

Silvery was feeling rough, struggled in to work, then fell asleep on the sofa once home. Definitely not a day for Flying. Hurrah for new washing machine, by the way grin.

SC is a one-woman sewing extravaganza wink. Hope your DD did well in her audition for 'Peter Pan' (I used to watch that at the theatre every Christmas when I was a child smile).

GoingGoingGoth had a good meeting about self employment, then went for a walk instead of visiting IKEA (full marks for saving money).

lovehope2013 joined us. She has been shining her sink and tackling body clutter too with exercise. Welcome to the thread smile.

Jdub admits to losing her impetus to Fly by Wednesday, something I'm sure we can all sympathise with. (Am not sure I even make it to Wednesday...).

Lilleth has been fretting over only managing two hours a day Flying, which sounds more than enough to me. (Very interesting link, by the way, thank you. I am always envious of people whose houses smell lovely).

Just - so sorry you are still in such a bad way sad. I hope you start to mend soon and, in the meantime, can just rest easily in bed. Who is looking after you? <concerned> (Thanks for reference to AIBU thread on education - made interesting reading, especially now I have a foot in both home ed and school camps).

Cuddledup has great plans for decluttering and tackling the washing tomorrow. (Your embarrassment over interrupting the lecture with your phone reminded me of this).

My wonderful fortnightly cleaner came today, so the house has been restored to some sort of order again and she has even done some ironing for me. I have left the ironing board up to inspire me to continue with the ironing tomorrow hmm.

NickNacks Fri 08-Feb-13 07:27:22

Morning all. Still got this sore throat and cold which is doing my nut ATM. I hate having a foggy head, it just makes work so much harder to listen to.

just sorry your still not felling any better

Thanks for all good wishes. Spent most of the last 2 days in bed but today am up & had breakfast. Boys off school - DS1 on the way down and DS2 on the way up - and DH working from home to look after us all. Really aware that I mustn't overdo it today, having exhausted myself by trying to clear up breakfast.

going - great news about the job!

Just - sorry to hear you're still having such a rough time.

Feeble waves to everybody else.

feetheart Fri 08-Feb-13 09:05:17

Today I'm sorting out getting a new phone after yesterday's embarrassment of the silencer not working!! grin

GoingGoingGoth Fri 08-Feb-13 09:30:03

Blue 2nd on going back to bed, make sure you're fully recovered.

Just bloody hell woman, and you were disappointed over not Flying! I'm impressed you're visiting us at all, but I guess it's getting boring being stuck in bed. Really hope you feel better soon.

Done

Nicknacks - sorry you are feeling unwell too.

Congratulations on getting on the run, Feet.

Good luck with the business plan, Goth.

Cuddledup - hope you find a decent new phone. I have just bought myself a new one and was tempted to get a SmartPhone, but realised all I wanted it for was for the Flylady app blush. Have settled on a cheap Tesco mobile instead.

Phone MIL

Am cross on MIL's behalf because she has caught a bad cold from a fellow resident after the warden insisted she sit with her whilst they fetch the doctor. It is not MIL's job to sit with ill residents, but she is not assertive at the best of the times, so she did as she was told, even though she is meant to avoid exposure to infection because she's on high doses of steroids. So now she has the cold and it has gone to her chest angry. People take advantage of her all the time, so this is not unusual <sigh>.

Off to start revising equivalent fractions with DS1...

yeah ds was back to normal this morning and screamed at me. Somehow I have learnt to sleep walk my way through this process. hmm

need to do stuff but it was a late night last night and suffering cos of it. going to try to work though and reset body clock (ie early night)

Catch up with GB's olympic qualifier game from yesterday

I can't stick it out in bed any longer but I'm mostly sitting down watching CBeebies & DVDs with the boys. Biggest setback to recovery is is the 4 hrly battle to get calpol into DS2 which involves a ridiculous ammount of screaming and brute force...

Currently listening to the current Qualifier against France. Currently 1:0 to France hmm

LillethTheCat Fri 08-Feb-13 17:07:36

- tomorrow's list

And that is it for me (4 of the remainder 8 to do are on the internet). Its just been one of those days. Nothing majorly bad has happened, but its just been the odd combination. So Im not doing a great deal today.

Babystep 9 is to learn how to declutter a few minutes at a time.

Friday night is date night. Plan an evening with someone you love. Saturday is Family Fun Day. You are meant to have done so much Flying during the week that you have time to just enjoy your loved ones hmm.

No missions at the weekend!

smile

Evening all,

I have hurt my right arm, somesort of strain, typing aggravates it so I'm tapping away on the Ipad very slowly, it's ok so long as I don't flex my wrist too much. Been like it for about 3 weeks and got worse this week, been prescribed anti inflammatories today. Not much Flying as a result, also been very busy at work. Have done a bit of decluttering today though and had a bit of a tidy up of the understairs cupboard but that's about it.

Better go, night all.

Cuddledup Fri 08-Feb-13 21:41:54

Who OUCH! to your strained arm.... I hope the anti- inflammatories improve the situation.
Blue I hope you're feeling a bit better - after your slightly restful day.
Bitchy that's a list to be proud of!
Toffee thanks for reminding me that it's date night - I'd better shave my legs in honor of this event!
Feet belated congrats on getting onto GN Run. How many miles is that ? 27 ?

As usual my plans didn't quite go to plan. I'd hoped to do a home Bleurgh but didn't really happen..

Ta da
DD to school

20 mins ironing --- better than nothing
DD to swimming lesson this evening
supper and clear away

Off to bed now .....

elliepac Sat 09-Feb-13 07:22:56

Morning one and all. Another crazy busy week at work. Work is quite stressful at the moment and it normally isn't. Issues in the department with another teacher who is an Assistant Head therefore more senior than me, been teaching more years than I've been alive but who is stuffing up in a really bad way and needs a bollocking. Currently he's avoiding me but I have parents complaining now and need to sort it and the Head breathing down my neck to get it sorted. Hence not posting much at the moment. Apologies.

So today a list is needed. DH is at work so it's just DC's and I and a whole lot of errands/jobs to do. DS hates food shopping and am currently debating whether to leave him here while I go. He is nearly 10 and quite responsible and I know he will just olay his xbox and not move from the sofa and will only be gone an hour. There was a thread about it this recently and the general consensus was that they need to learn independence. He has been left alone for half an hour before. Still umming and aahing.

List looks like this:-
Tidy whole house
Clean whole house in a superficial swish and swipe kind of way
Washing
Drying
Putting away
Town for bits and bobs
Food shop
Dmum's for lunch
DS to cubs nite pilot activity at 5. ( they walk around the woods solving clues)
Pick DS up from cubs

Better get on!

feetheart Sat 09-Feb-13 08:00:44

ellie - We are at the same stage with DD who is about the same age. Have left her for 30mins and she now walks to school with a friend rather than with DS and I. I think I probably would leave her for an hour now though haven't had to put it to the test! As long as you think DS would be sensible and has your mobile number on speed dial I would probably go for it - my DD would be delighted at not going food shopping too. HTH

Cuddleup - GNR is a half-marathon so 13.1 miles. I did the Silverstone one last year so know I can do the distance if I put the training in. Just slightly daunted that I will have to put the bulk of the training in during the summer holidays when DC are around and the weather may be warm - I definitely prefer cold weather running.

Lilleth - I got a running book for women by Kara Goucher, an American distance runner. She has some very simple training plans for 5k, 10k, etc up to a marathon. I used it to train for the half-marathon I did last year and was going to use it again for the marathon that I had to pull out of. You only have to train 3 times a week which fits my life quite nicely and she is full of sensible advice. I found lots of other plans far too complicated.

Odd day yesterday as DS was still home but full of beans in the morning - he hoovered for me, swept the kitchen floor and we made an experimental lemon drizzle cake. Then he flopped in the afternoon, back to grey-looking collapsed-on-the-sofa boy. Need to make sure we take this w/e easily if he is to be back to school on Monday.
DH also full of cold and in bed by 8.30pm so no date night here unless you count Adam Hills on 'The Last Leg' smile

Today involves:
- Finish menu-plan and shopping list
- All up and out - DS to gymnastics, DH and DD to music school. Not sure how much of that is going to happen!
- Food shopping
- Sort out school disco tickets - proving a bit of a nightmare! (need to buy more card and print more tickets too)
- Usual routine stuff
- Change DS's bed
- Help reluctant DD tidy her room
- Get DD to finish invitations for her birthday sleepover
- Go to Beavers quiz night (probably on my own as not sure DH will make it)

Better get on I suppose.
Have a good day everyone.

NickNacks Sat 09-Feb-13 08:12:33

Morning ellie

Sorry you're having a hard time at work, I thank god often that I don't have colleagues.

I also have a DS who's 9 and we have just started to leave him home alone. Only problem is we had a hiccup on the first time (relentless delivery guy who hammered the door down) and now he's reluctant so we're building up slowly. I think I would go shopping if he were ok with it.

DH is also working this weekend (feeling a parallel life with Ellie coming on)

My list

Washing washing washing
Declutter for 15 mins
Shop for a few bits
Try and clean the sofa arms
Wipe out microwave
Write newsletter email

NickNacks Sat 09-Feb-13 08:13:30

Xposts with feet- good morning!

Parallel life here too, DH is just off to work and I leave DS (just turned 9) for short periods. So far I haven't left him for more than half an hour and not gone anywhere I could not walk back from in 5 mins which for us includes school and guide hut where I take DD to Brownies. Not sure he's ready to be left for longer yet but totally agree with the gradual increase in responsibility, he goes to school by himself, albeit with me following 5 mins behind.

elliepac Sat 09-Feb-13 10:30:40

Ta da :-
Washing on
Dryer on
Washing put away
Tidy whole house (it actually wasn't that bad and I suspect my standards are lower than otherswinkgrin)
Clean whole house (see abovegrin)

Now going to grab a shower and then head into town. The day has panned out such that the best time for the food shop is on my way back from mum's so DS will have to come so the decision is out of my hands. Thanks for all your thoughts though. It's so hard isn't it getting the balance right between giving them gradual independence because you don't want to mollycoddle and the mothering instinct which is to worry.

Back later!

lovehope2013 Sat 09-Feb-13 10:33:42

Hi all,

Ellie hope work situation improves. I had a difficult colleague situation yesterday when one sent me a ranting email about how I'd (inadvertently) stressed her out and that her afternoon had been ruined. I wrote a ranting reply back as I was pretty annoyed by her tone, but I didn't send it to her - thought I'd wait until I'd calmed down. Then about 3 hours later (9pm!) she rang me on my mobile to apologise and wrote me a long apologetic email too. All sorted, thank goodness.

I tried to shine the sink but I don't think we have the right products in the house. Shopping trip needed today.

To do:
Make bed
Shopping
Shine sink
Swish & swipe
Tidy bedside cabinet
Sort clothes going to charity shop
Laundry load
Dry clothes away
Quality time with dh
Make new 'to do' list

Hope all your days go flyingly! smile

LillethTheCat Sat 09-Feb-13 11:42:40

Morning.

Did Feck all yesterday. Feeling more enthusiastic today though. Ive been to parkrun this morning so it may be that Ive done some running today and its released my energy hormones. Will definately have to get into it more now. Especially since Ive paid and registered to do a 10K in 5 weeks time. Just hope the weather is ok for me to get out, but if not it will be an hour on the exercise bike. Tues and Thurs morning, maybe tomorrow afternoon too.

tada
- make beds
- turn on washing machine
- 2nd load
- Parkrun

to do
- dry laundry
- put laundry away
- Wash up 2X
- Shine Sink
- tidy front room once DCs are in bed
- Sort out DS homework
- Sort out DD1 homework
- Coursework

WhoKnows hope your arm gets better soon.

Feetheart I think I said congratulations on getting the GNR place on another thread, but just incase it was someone else congratulations. Though Im positive it was you. Im going to put my name forward for it next year. Good luck with the training. Thanks for the book info, I will have a look and see if I can't get it myself.

Ellie Sorry to hear work is stressfull ATM. Hope next week will get some things sorted and it can begin to be less stressful. Though its nearly half term so there will be one less thing to deal with (ie parents and children) although I think Im right in thinking that half term doesn't necessarily mean teachers get a week off.

Ooh I can't wait to not take the DCs shopping. We do go on a Friday morning when they (apart from DD2) is at school, but thats not helpful during school holidays. DS is 8 in just over a week, but is Autistic so we have a while yet.

lovehope Well done on not retaliating to that email, glad its all sorted. Lots of people wouldn't be able to.

<waves to everyone else> Sorry Ive not gone far back, sometimes this thread gets overwhelming and there's loads to read.

Hope you are feeling better blue and thank you toffee for stepping in with links and round ups.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

LillethTheCat Sat 09-Feb-13 11:44:35

Oooh forgot to put on one thing on my list, realised as it was posting.

to do
- dry laundry
- put laundry away
- Wash up 2X
- Shine Sink
- tidy front room once DCs are in bed
- Sort out DS homework
- Sort out DD1 homework
- Coursework
- put kitchen draw contents in a box saw a tip on this thread so Im going to do that today. Will be part of decluttering.

<waves again>

Afternoon,

Lilleth - I did couch to 5k a couple of years ago but had to give up running last year when I developed a prolapse. It is not really recommended to run following prolapse surgery, but I think I will start gently again once I've lost some weight (less strain on the pelvic floor that way) and try to run mostly on grass (also less impact) - I was about to start doing parkruns when it all went wrong, and there is a new one near me now. Need to lose the weight first though.

Arms feeling a bit better today, probably because I haven't done much. Lazy day here, snowing/raining, CBA, just slowly tidying up.

Also feeling cross because I have just had a letter calling me up for jury service in April, I have used up all my childcare favours really after my operation last year, so it's going to be a pain. And I've done it before, so it probably won't be anything like as interesting as it was last time.

LillethTheCat Sat 09-Feb-13 15:33:20

I want to do Jury Service.

The Park Run I go to hasn't been going long (only since December) It was the couch to 5K that got me running properly. I always tried and failed to keep it up before. Now I got to a running club, well I would, but my AAT is on the same time.

I know so many people who want to do jury service, and yet I get called twice in 5 years. It's in the Easter holidays. <sighs>

I am still partitioning for family fun day to be renamed family hell day <grumpy>

elliepac Sat 09-Feb-13 18:17:56

Ta da for this afternoon:-
Lunch at mum's
Aldi shop
Tesco for bits I couldn't get at Aldi
Town for a few bits
Washing
Drying
DS dropped in the middle of nowhere for cubs
DD fed
Our dinner prepped and on

And relax.......... Until 9 when I have to go and pick DS up from the middle of nowhere. Poor DH isn't even home from work yet and he left the house at 6 this morning!

elliepac Sat 09-Feb-13 18:19:44

bitchy at least you had a stab at family fun day, we didn't even manage that.

whoknows bummer about jury service. I can imagine it's a bit of a pain and it's something I dread landing in my doorstep along with chicken pox.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I picked the envelope up off the mat. Last time was fairly easy because the DCs were in full day nursery and my parents managed my non work days, going to be tricky this time with school and all the after school activities, the holiday week isn't so bad as I can just book them into all day holiday club and claim the cost, luckily the court isn't too far away, if last time is anything to go by the days are quite short.

Back in a min.

Lilleth - my DS is ASD (AS) too (in fact there are quite a few of us with ASD DS's on this thread), in fact for things like leaving him it works in our favour as he is very sensible, not at all inquisitive and sticks by rules (far too rigidly sometimes). We started leaving him at about 8.5 years old.

Lovehope - when I have emails like that I usually press reply, then carefully delete the recipients name from the To box (so I can't hit send in error or rage) before writing a really ranting reply, and letting off steam. I then delete it.

Ellie - sounds like a tricky work situation. Hope DS enjoys the night hike, my DS did one about 3 months ago and despite not being a very enthusiastic walker, loved it, he says it's the best thing he has done at Cubs yet.

Bitchy - hands over wine

Arm is much better today, so I'm going to sign off and tackle my OU essay.

LillethTheCat Sat 09-Feb-13 19:25:48

tada
- make beds
- turn on washing machine
- 2nd load
- Parkrun
- dry laundry
- put laundry away
- Wash up 2X
- Shine Sink
- tidy front room once DCs are in bed

not doing
- Sort out DS homework (totally forgot)
- Sort out DD1 homework (totally forgot)
- Coursework (have done a bit, but need to do a bit more tomorrow)
- put kitchen draw contents in a box (will do Monday as as mission or something)

Cant believe that I forgot homework blush Oh well it wont hurt to do it tomorrow. DS's is Maths which he just whizzes through. It will only take him 10 mins.

tomorrows list
- DS homework
- DD1 homework
- Coursework
- Strip bed (going to do DCs Monday)
- Dry bedding
- remake bed
- Wash up 3X
- Shine Sink
- tidy room once DCs are in bed

That's it. Im really tired so going to have a slow day tomorrow and just get those jobs I have to do (ie homework and wash up) and the bedding is part of my 'me' time we are supposed to have on a Sunday. Its bath and to bed in nice fresh bedding grin love it.

What do the courts suggest people do regarding children when it comes to jury service? Im thinking that you are called up and that's it you have to go, but what if you genuinely have no-one to look after DCs?

Bitchy now the day is at an end so relax and take it easy.

Have a good evening everyone.

Thanks for all the get well wishes. Boys are still up and down and DH is starting to feel low. It seems to be some kind of flu bug and he's had the jab for work so hopefully won't get it so badly.

I'm almost back to normal now apart from a few coughs and sneezes, so I'm happy to take over with the links and round-ups again tonight.

Huge thanks to Toffee - thanks - for stepping in and doing such a great job! Have a well-earned wine

ToffeeWhirl Sat 09-Feb-13 19:33:26

Lilleth - that kitchen drawer tip is awesome! (Sorry, have spent the evening with teenagers blush). Am going to do that asap.

Have had a quick read through, but don't have time now to reply to all. Sorry, though, for those having horrible times at work and those suffering illness or aches and pains sad.

Tomorrow we are on Babystep 10, which is one of the most useful, I think - the power of 15 minutes.

Sunday is our day to renew our spirit - that means make time for yourself.

No missions because it's the weekend.

Off to get DS2 in the bath. DS1 has his best friend sleeping over, so he's happy. DH and I are hoping to have a delayed 'date night' watching the new series of 'Spiral'.

Hope you all have a good evening and relaxing Sunday.

PS: Spent most of this afternoon decluttering DS1's bedroom grin. It is almost tidy...

ToffeeWhirl Sat 09-Feb-13 19:34:26

Beat you to it, Blue grin. Glad you are feeling better.

Thanks for the flowers and wine.

GoingGoingGoth Sat 09-Feb-13 20:45:28

Evening ladies,
So much for Family Fun Day here, Dd woke up with a stinking cold & sore throat. in fact she crashed on the sofa for the whole day, when we'd had a cinema trip planned, which is unheard of.
So I counted it as a renew spirit day instead. Luckily it's half term this week, so she has a chance to recover.

Done
Beds
Windows
Litter tray
Bins
Washing up
Laundry in
Post Office
Shopping
Ironing whilst watching rugby grin
Reading for 2 hours undisturbed! (Dd had iPad)
Dinner
Wash up & SS

You can defer jury service Lilleth, but only for a year I think, their view is that you must arrange childcare. Which I suppose is possible for most people with a few months to sort it out. The problem being you don't know how long you are going to need it for. I have seen a few threads about this get quite heated. On my last jury service one of the staff told us about a trial that went on for best part of a year and one of the jurors fell pregnant, they had to do everything they could to finish it before she gave birth, what a nightmare.

Ah, cross-posted with Toffee I see. Due to MN being particularly treacle-like earlier on. Well, will start again tomorrow.

What a pain about the jury service WhoKnows. Hope you can work something out.

Likewise for you work situation Ellie.

Get well soon to your DD, Going.

Big waves to everyone else. Good night!

SilveryMoon Sun 10-Feb-13 08:40:13

Sorry again for absence, been so tired, not even had theenergy to turn the laptop on.
Hope everyone is well.
All is fine here, ds's driving me crazy, ds1 has hit the back-chat stage and he's only 5!
New washing machine came yesterday, is lovely. Did 3 loads yesterday and have just started again now.
Had a really bad week FLYing, think I did zone work 1 day last week, must try harder this week.

SilveryMoon Sun 10-Feb-13 09:25:02

Lilleth Just been reazding that helpful tips thread. Some interesting stuff.
Just added a tip myself about keeping clingfilm in the fridge, stops it sticking to itself when you unroll some.

Which thread was that? I read the one about putting fabric conditioner on your radiators, but that's not going to happen here, we don't use it because I can't stand the smell, I like my laundry unfragranced. Although I was interested to see someone post on there that they had found an unscented one.

I have just been reading a Good Homes magazine while I eat breakfast, not sure whether to feel inspired or depressed.

SilveryMoon Sun 10-Feb-13 09:48:32

this thread WhoKnows It's mostly got tips on cooking rice and different ways of doing cheese sauce, but there are some handy ones tucked in there.

Ah, thanks Silvery - I read it when it was about 20 posts long (got as far as the Vicks on toenail). Will revisit. I have fast reliable methods for cheese sauce and rice already though.

So, just finished my weekly clean, yay! but I took the mop out of the cupboard, filled my bucket with hot water and floor cleaner, mopped, it's dried and the place stinks! Had a look at the water as I emptied bucket and it was black!
Dp on Friday night, unplugged and pulled old washing machine out, cleaned and mopped behind it <boak> in prep for the new one to go in, he used a fuck load of bleach and I don't think he cleaned the mop after angry. Now I'll have to mop the whole flat again ggrrrrrrrr.
[scabby cow emoticon] it'll wait til a bit later though, me and ds's are settling down to watch The Snowman and The Snowdog.

angry about the mop Silvery Oh well have fun with the snowman and snowdog.

That is a good thread, but a lot of posts I skimmed as I dont cook (that's DHs area) so how to make Cheese Sauce or cook Rice are of no interest to me.

NickNacks Sun 10-Feb-13 15:41:56

Ive developed a new 'to do' list management system. I use the notebook on my iPhone and delete and add jobs when done or if i remember them. It's always on me and I enjoy seeinh it get smaller. I might not post lists as much on the thread due to deleting them!

DH is working again today and I've done the laundry, kids homework, uniforms, kits, and beef stew for dinner. smile

SilveryMoon Sun 10-Feb-13 15:43:47

nicknacks Looks like we are nearly the same person!
I like to add and remove stuff on my phone's notepad.
Dp is also at work today.
I have just finished homework with the boys and am in the process of hunting down uniform items.
Also having beef stew for dinner!

NickNacks Sun 10-Feb-13 15:55:31

smile hi twin!! smile

SilveryMoon Sun 10-Feb-13 16:03:20

Well, not having beef stew now. Just seen it's 4pm and I'm still sat on the sofa. Whoopsie

NickNacks Sun 10-Feb-13 16:28:54

Oh dear! In an effort not to look too smug , mines been on since 8am. smile

What will you have instead?

I use the reminders function on my phone for the same thing - it is always blipping away at me, everything from do your pelvic floor exercises to what we are having for dinner. I live through my phone! I don't put alerts on the general to-do things, just the ones at particular times. Use the notebook part for shopping lists, the errands in town type (Ocado for the rest, also on phone)

SilveryMoon Sun 10-Feb-13 16:51:15

Hope you all have a good evening. See you tomorrow afternoon.

NickNacks Sun 10-Feb-13 17:41:40

I haven't got to grips with the Reminders app yet but perhaps I'll have a play around with it.

Nothing to blush at chicken dippers - I love them! It's only the sensible mum bit off me which puts beef stew on the menu!

Evening all!

So, who’s been around today and what have they been up to?

Silvery had some impressive lists considering she started the day with a CBA! Very well done, despite the Mop Incident.

There was much discussion of a useful tips thread. The microwave cheese sauce seems way more faff than just making it normally to me though.

Lileth popped in to see where she was and decided that the answer was that she could spend a couple of hours relaxing. Excellent.

NickNacks has a new to do list system, and she and Silvery wondered if they were twins.

WhoKnows also recommended the reminder function on one’s phone as a useful way of getting things done.

Today has been slightly strange here – the boys seemed right back to normal in the morning but very sleepy and lethargic in the afternoon. I now have a killer post-viral headache too. This bug seems very persistent. Sigh. Not sure if anyone will be going to school tomorrow, in which case it’s as well DH looks likely to be off sick as I have a ton of deadlines to catch up on!! We also have our bathroom suite scheduled for delivery, and the boys are supposed to be going to the dentist. And it might or might not be snowing. So that’ll be an interesting day.

to do:
Clear enough space for bathroom to be stored in office (!)
Work
Office mission
Dentist – health and weather permitting
Try not to overdo things!

*****************
So, links:
We’re moving into the bathroom zone this week, plus the home office as an extra, and Monday is of course house bleugh day.

Babystep 11 is to add an inspirational page to your CJ.

Here’s to this week being better all round!

Chicken dippers are my new treat when we have Dominos, you can have a whole portion for the same amount of calories as about two slices of pizza and much more filling.

Jamillalliamilli Sun 10-Feb-13 23:11:04

Slides in to say hello to Lovehope and wave to everyone.

I’m back mobile if rather hurting, and have managed emergency washing, shopping and refuelling car for today which is a perverted form of renewing spirit for me, as I’ve been feeling very frustrated and helpless as time ticks past and things are piling up, so getting that lot out of the way sets me up better for the coming week.
This last week’s lead to ds not doing lots he should be, and me letting it go, so has been warned that changes tomorrow. I urgently need to restart sludgefest tomorrow and generally get on top of things.
I now have a full fridge, full petrol tank, worst of washing and drying done and if I can manage not to need anything before Wednesday £3.40 change. All that’s left to do is get the world’s slowest eater finish dinner, get sheet on bed, and him into it.

Blue hope tomorrow works out for you, it sounds quite touch and go especially with your office and bathroom merger.

Toffee to answer earlier question there just isn’t anyone to look after me. Fab violinist link, grabbed for future lesson for ds on how to deal with being rudely interrupted in a truly classy way and make the interruption part of it rather than an offence.

Silvery am impressed, and grin at ‘scabby cow emoticon’]

whoknows years ago as a commercial cleaner, wiping the top of the radiators with balsam polish used to make them notice the acres of polished wood.

Goth hope dd is better.
Better get on and harass ds or we won’t be in bed before midnight.

GoingGoingGoth Sun 10-Feb-13 23:47:39

Just so pleased you're mobile again. Sounds like you've made a good start. Don't overdo it, you don't want to end up back in bed. And watch out for ice, no more tumbles please.

Dd still poorly and now mardy <sighs> but just been in to check her as she was coughing and got a cuddle. So much for her "never coming out of her room again" She should have been going to a friend's tomorrow (our half term) so very disappointed.

So fairly lazy day apart from delivering medicine, drinks, snacks etc, didn't bother with Sunday lunch as she doesn't really have an appetite.

Done
Beds, windows, S&S, litter tray, bins, washing up, laundry on, ironing x2, dry washing away, dinner, washing up, SS.
Set up budget spreadsheet

Can't sleep. looks like tomo will be a write off sad

I'm back! Just spent weekend in UK to say goodbye to my sister who is leaving for far off lands next week. DH was ill as was DS, which meant I got to have some lovely one on one time with my Dsis and DM. But of course, I'm ill as well now.

House looks like a bomb site and DNs are coming over in an hour or so. Half term here and ILs had promised to watch them, but FIL now has a hospital scan so we will have them for a couple of hours.

List for today then......
Unpack bags

Morning all - cough cough..... Yep! I've got the coughy / cold lurgy bug that everyone has. Feeling wiped out and today I've got to drive the family to York for our half term holiday. 4 hr+ drive. GROAN. DH is being v irritating and asking when are we going - after having woken me up at 6 with the radio! .

Anyways I'll do the morning routine, take some Beechams and head off up the motorway by 9.

Just good to hear you're doing better - your ta da list was awesome.

Back later this week - armed with Mt Washmore...

Morning all

I had a minimal FLYing week last week (but kept on top of my sink shining and S&Sing) but intend to get back into things this week. I won't read back through the thread (as it will just make me depressed that I've got so little done in comparison with everyone else!) but hope you're all well and all had a good weekend, despite the miserable weather.

Done so far:
Showered, make-up on and dressed
Bed made
Sandwiches made

To do:
Empty dishwasher
Put a load of washing on
Change bed sheets
Put tomorrow's clothes out
Put some stuff on eBay
Do mission (will have to check back later & see if link has changed as it's showing bedroom?)
Wash bathroom floor
Hoover/tidy the conservatory (which is used as a playroom)

Morning morning!
Hope everyone's weekends went well.
I had a lovely time - an extended weekend due to an inset day! Me and my eldest did a Shaker Maker model (as we wouldn't be 'assisted' by his younger bro who was at play school) NOTE: They are buggers to get out of their molds! Had to smack the living daylights out of it on the steps outside to dislodge it!! Luckily the model came out in one piece!

So far then, from over the weekend done
dusted
changed kids beds
washing
hoovered
sorted out first box of leftover Christmas delivery notes/receipts/stuff bunged in just to get it out of sight. 2 more bigger boxes to dispense with!
wknd meal plan

to do
bathrooms
sort the 2 remaining boxes of receipts/rubbish!
wash floor
clean up toy garage to give to friend's son
bag up charity shop bits - AND ACTUALLY PUT IN CAR!

Oh dear, what a lot of unwell people here sad. I hope everyone is on the mend soon. I have an unwell DS2 at home today (chesty cough thingy) and MIL is still really ill with a similar virus, so DH is doing her shopping for her. Am ok myself so far <touches wood>.

Bitchy - poor thing, I hope you get the heating sorted soon. We had that a few weeks ago and it was unbelievably cold. I was so grateful when the heating came back on again. I never take it for granted as I grew up in a freezing cold house and vowed to stay warm when I grew up.

Lilleth - have put that tip about the kitchen drawer into practise! All the junk from the drawer is now in a box in the understair's cupboard and only a few things are left in the drawer. My mum is going to be sooooo impressed when she visits later this week smile.

Had a busy and productive weekend and have managed to stay on top of routines and home ed so far today. Like Jdub, I start the week well...

Blue - glad you are feeling better.

Back to home ed stuff now.

Heating totally dead. thankfully still have hot water so not a boiler issue. Extra duvets and water bottles at the ready....

Having a rubbish flying day today.

tada
- make bed
- Strip DCs bedding
- Dry bedding
- remake beds
- Fill washing machine ready for Tues
- Go to business course
- tidy room once DCs are in bed

Not done or doing
- Wash up 2X
- Shine Sink
- Empty kitchen crap draws into box
- 5 mins tidying computer up (there's not a lot there TBH)
- sort out clothes for Tues
- go for a run (or exercise bike if the weather is rubbish like its meant to be)

OK so Ive done half my list. Having a rubbish day really. The Business course I do on a Monday morning I hate. We've not really done it in any particular order and it seems to be very here and there. Dont know whether Im coming or going with that one. And today we find out that we may not be finishing level 1 after half term and we may not be getting a work placement. I want to drop out, but feel as though then it would be a waste of time doing what Ive done so far (which TBF doesn't feel like a lot)

Plus Ive just come back from a dog walk and my dog was attacked again by the same dog for a second time angry Ive taken pictures, just looking into getting it reported. Not happy.

Just glad to hear your feeling better. Hope it continues this way
Cuddled have a lovely time in York. We have family there, going next week for the day.
Bitchy hope you get the heating sorted soon.
Toffee Glad to be of help, need to get round to doing mine.

<waves to everyone else>

Will post tomorrow's list for myself in a bit. Off to put DCs to bed

SilveryMoon Mon 11-Feb-13 19:56:07

Evening all
What a day. Is it Friday yet?
Blue Hope you’re all feeling better. This bug is very persistent isn’t it? I’ve felt crap for weeks and been up coughing every night. Last night, I decided to give the vapour rub on the soles of the feet (picked up from the tips thread) a go, and it works! I didn’t wake up again, so guess what’s on my bedside table.
Just Glad you’re better. Take it easy though.
Snow Don’t sweat having a crap FLYing week. That’ll be me this week as dp is onlates (2pm - 10pm) so have to collect the boys from after school club and walk home, which they are never in the mood for and do dinner, homework, baths, dinner etc etc alone so def won’t be doing any more this week than bare minimum. No zone work, missions or decluttering here this week, just routines I think.
Jdub Glad you had a good weekend and envy @ inset
lilleth Hope your dog’s ok.

The longest day today. I’ve been in such a foul mood. 4 days and counting!
TaDa
Up and made beds
Swished and swiped
laundry
Dressed
Bags packed for school
Went to work zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Fed cats
More laundry
Cleaned kitchen
Shined sink
Homework
Boys bath
Read stories
laid out clothes

You know it's bad when I can't even be arsed to drink!

Evening all.

Well, the bathroom was delivered incredibly promptly and with minimal fuss this morning, so that’s a huge relief. DS2 also got back to nursery and I was able to get some work done, which is also good. There’s no snow – phew – and we made it to the dentist without bloodshed. On the other hand, work keeps appearing, even as I try to catch up with the backlog and now it looks like I’m going to have to redo a chapter I’ve apparently lost. angry Still, at least it’s a short one.

DS1 isn’t having a good night either. He was far too energetic for somebody off school earlier, but now keeps crying and complaining of earache. Will have to get him to the doctor tomorrow to see if it’s turned into an ear infection. Joy.

Anyway, what’s everyone else been doing?

Just is mobile again and has been able to get some things done. Echoing Going’s wise advice about not overdoing it though.

Going has a poorly DD too.

Engelse is also coughing and spluttering but had visiting DNs to entertain – hope you survived.

Cuddled was doing motorway driving with the lurgy. Hope you took it easy and got there safely. Grr to DH asking when you’re leaving. Isn’t that the kids’ job?

Snowgirl was intending to get back into flying this week. Don’t worry about other people’s lists! If you’re keeping a shiny sink and on top of the S&S then you’re doing brilliantly.

Jdub was bursting with Monday energy. Glad you had a good weekend. What’s Shaker Maker [too lazy to Google…]

Bitchy has broken heating. Hope you can get it fixed promptly. <Hands over more warming brew >

feet was making steady progress through her list.

Toffee had a good weekend too, and a drawer in a box. I daren’t do that cos I’d just keep the box forever too!

Lilleth was having a bad day. Sorry to hear about the uninspiring course and dog troubles.

Silvery is not looking forward to this week. Focussing on routines sounds a good way to go though. Hope it gets better.

Hope all the poorly people start feeling better soon, also hope the heating gets fixed quickly Bitchy

My kitchen drawer desperately needs a declutter, you have to shove everything down with your hand before you can close it now, ditto the drawer of crap in the computer desk. Problem is, most of it does get used occasionally. However I have created some shelf space in the understairs cupboard so I can relocate some of it there.

elliepac Tue 12-Feb-13 06:50:29

Morning everyone! This week is about survival. I am merely getting through the week and holding on for Friday. On the other hand, don't want it to go too quickly as it is DD's 5th birthday on Saturday and I haven't bought her a single thing yet!

Hope all poorly people are feeling a but better this morning.

bitchy hope you get your heating fixed soon. It sucks having no heating.

just glad you are feeling better smile

cuddled enjoy York. My family is from there and all my grandparents/great aunts etc lived there. Beautiful city which holds happy memoriessmile

Like silvery i will be happy if I just keep routines up this week although Friday night will involve some serious cleaning as we have famile descending on Saturday and a party to go to before they come leaving little time for cleaning on the day.

Have a good day everyone!

Snowgirl1 Tue 12-Feb-13 08:38:33

Morning everyone

Okay, which one of you gave me the lurgy? To be fair it was probably DD. I feel crap so hate to think how this has made her feel, she's so little.

I managed to get my list done last night, which always makes me feel pleasantly smug righteous.

Done so far:
Up, showered and make up on
Bed made
Sandwiches made

To do:
Buy shampoo
Hang washing out
Get tomorrow's clothes out
Make pancake batter
Collect purchase from FB local site
15 mins decluttering office area
Mission
Finish on-line shop
Shine sink
S&S

Bitchy hope your heating is fixed pronto - what a nightmare.

<Waves to everyone else feeling poorly> hope you all feel better soon.

<Waves to everyone feeling fine>

BBL

To do today:

Just back from school
Quick tidy round
What's for dinner? Something quick and easy needed on a Tuesday. Pancake batter is in the fridge for after school.
Work
Pop to Sainsburys
School run
Pancakes
Ballet
Dinner
Cubs
Finish OU essay

Not going to be time for much Flying.

ToffeeWhirl Tue 12-Feb-13 09:34:48

Blimey, WhoKnows, that was a list and a half you got through on Monday!

DS2 has kept DH and me up most of the night. As DH said, "He's not one to suffer in silence, is he?" I feel like I did when my two were babies - wrecked. I really can't cope with broken nights. Finally gave up and took DS2 downstairs to watch telly whilst I dozed on the sofa. He prodded me awake a little while later and said, "You've been asleep for ages and it's time for pancakes".

He is too ill for school, but not ill enough to go to bed and sleep. Unfortunately.

Have had a large cup of coffee to wake myself up. Will be back later with a list...

feetheart Tue 12-Feb-13 10:01:07

I hate to say it but that boy has his priorities right Toffee smile
Hope pancakes revived you a bit too.

Whoknows - I'm cheating and having savoury pancakes for dinner - just add cheese and ham smile. They will both get sweet ones at Beavers/Brownies.

Lilleth - sorry to hear about course and dog woes. Sounds like a run in the fields is needed regardless of weather - that's my thinking time and I have missed it like mad. Saying that the ice is really bad here today so I won't be running either sad

Got most of yesterday's list done, including scoffing nice things at school 'Bake and Take'. Came back with yummy Mississippi Mud Pie recipe.
Today' list is less ambitious as I'm at school from 1pm.
- More disco tickets - done
- All up and out - done
- Shopping for neighbour - done
- S&S - done
- Lots of washing as DS wet bed twice (after two dry nights) - doing
- WORK
- Pancake batter
- Reading at school
- Dinner
- DS to Beavers (hopefully with DH but not sure if he is well enough to cope with 20 rowdy Beavers!), DD to Brownies

Quite a doable list but need to get on with work now.
Hopefully back later, wafts healthy vibes to all the poorly people...........

Jdub Tue 12-Feb-13 10:01:20

Mmmmm....coffee...!!!
And to add to that, someone at work has bought pancakes for us all - 30 seconds in the microwave with nutella in ...mmmmmm!!!

Well - this morning's done list comprises the usual up and out score, but due to acute lameness (plus a banging headache last night) my to do list remains more or less unchanged!!

to do
sort the 2 remaining boxes of receipts/rubbish!
wash floor
clean up toy garage to give to friend's son
bag up charity shop bits - AND ACTUALLY PUT IN CAR!
clean shoes
meal plan

And Blue, Shaker Maker is a plaster of paris model making kit! Back in the day, the molds were made of latex, and you give it all a big shake to mix it up and leave to set! I made an elephant, and snapped its trunk off on removing the mold (gutted), but nowadays, they are solid plastic (and even more bloody fiddly and difficult to get out of the cast!!) Cue much muttering and mumbled swearing!!

Happy Pancake Day everyone x

Jdub - Oh... light dawns, slowly. I had loads of those kits as a kid but had no idea that was what they were called. They never worked very well so I'll definitely keep clear of them if there are solid plastic moulds now!!

Engelsemama Tue 12-Feb-13 13:33:36

Really did mean to BBL yesterday but when I took DS up for his nap I went to bed as well (leaving DH to entertain DNs).

Feeling a bit better today though only a bit. Why am I always ill during holidays?!

Took DS to GP this morning and he has a chest infection so on antibiotics. Means he won't be at nursery today or tomorrow so bang go my free days (that I normally count on every half term to get some school work done and rebalance my sanity!) We're a house of happy people today. Though actually DH is at work so I feel like I'm getting stuff done. He was ill at the weekend and still feeling under the weather, but am fed up with his "competitive illness" iykwim. Glad he's not under my feet.

Still, have managed to get a fair bit done.

Ta da
Picked up DS meds at pharmacy/Drs appt
Supermarket shop
2 lots of washing
Steak and msuhroom pie doing (filling nearly ready...thank you Hairy Bikers)
Washing up x2
Emptied bins
hoovered downstairs
paper ready to go out for recycling this morning
bin bags out this morning

To do
Put today's washing away
Have a shower and wash my hair
unpack bags
finish off delicious dinner and eat lots of ice cream
Catch up with thread

LillethTheCat Tue 12-Feb-13 14:18:18

Hi Everyone. <wonders where Ellies family are from as we are from York>

Another one here who never made it back on last night.

I like to have a tomorrow's list so I know where I am.

Anyway

tada
- Made Beds
- turned on washing machine
- 2nd load
- Dryer on now
- Taken DD2 to soft play (and worn myself out let alone DD2)

to do
- sort laundry out
- fill washing machine ready for tomorrow
- shine sink (will leave DH to wash up as I have to go out tonight)
- go to extra night for my AAT course to help revise for upcoming exam

The dog is now fine, in fact he looks a lot better this time than last time.

I wish I could go for a run feet but the weather is crap here today, plus I dont have much free time to get myself sorted ready to go to my course tonight. I do plan to do some exercise tomorrow, but with the snow forecast I will probably do an hour on my bike.

So tired now. I blame the soft play. Got an hour before school pick up and the odd bits and pieces before I go to my course tonight.

Jamillalliamilli Tue 12-Feb-13 14:39:45

Slipping in to say sorry didn’t get in yesterday as I managed to do lots (without damage!) but was so shattered I fell asleep reading everyone’s updates!
Trying to both get on top of everything and not overdo it, but am a bit all over the place thanks to snow, medication, and huge pile up of not done tasks, but just back of to hack away at sludgefest and will work out what else needs doing later.
Hope everyone who’s unwell or dealing with unwell people recovers fast, and Jdub glad to hear dog’s in one piece.

Bitchy hope you can get heating sorted fast, being cold is horribly de-motivating.

Must drag myself of here or will not get things done but will try and be more sociable later.

NickNacks Tue 12-Feb-13 17:47:44

Hi everyone- sorry for lack of personals I'm on phone.

Lovely afternoon doing pancakes for 6 children, they really enjoyed them smile

I've also done a bit of work that's desperately outstanding but still tons to do. DH working at the weekend again so I might do some then.

Getting a new cooker delivered tomorrow so tonight we have the gross job of pulling out the old one and cleanibg behind it- it's been about 3 yrs since I last did it! Cleaner is coming first thing but I really think that's taking the piss if I ask her to do that!

Wednesday is also my busiest day minding so I'm always knackered and get nothing done, house wise.

Will try and get back on tomorrow afternoon whilst the babies nap if I can smile

elliepac Tue 12-Feb-13 19:56:11

Evening allsmile .

Quite a productive evening here. Was expecting today to be horrible but the little darlings actually behaved themselves and it wasn't half as bad as expected.

Ta da-
morning routine
work
dinner made
homework/reading etc done
dinner cleared away
pancakes
washing from this morning in dryer
clothes laid out
pack ups done
dinner cleared away

GoingGoingGoth Tue 12-Feb-13 21:08:51

Hello all
Quick update as vipers little flying going on (I think I'm going to class anything done as a success this week rather than stressing over it)

DD's sore throat is easing, still full of cold, and unfortunatly she seems to have had an adverse reaction to the Calpol, face swelled and she got a rash all over her nose & round her mouth. Took her to the chemists to be checked out (as she'd started being more lively) so she's now on Priton. Luckily swelling is going down and she's almost back to herself today, so as it's half term we had a day out at the cinema, shops etc.

Maybe snowing tomorrow (not holding my breath as we haven't really had any yet) so planning a playing day. She's due back to school on Thursday, so I'm hoping her face will clear up by then.

Done since Monday
Morning & evening routines
Vacuumed
Bins
2 loads washing
Ironing
Re-organised storage cupboard

GoingGoingGoth Tue 12-Feb-13 21:24:58

^ vipers erm should be there's no idea what happened -blaming the iPad AGAIN <sighs>

Good evening, good evening.

It’s been a funny old day here - ta da!
DS2 to nursery
Work
DH took DS1 to doctor – thankfully no ear infection
Laundry & clean stuff away
Pick up DS2 and do Sainsbo’s dash for calpol, tissues etc
Lunch
More work
Pancakes
Clean up kitchen
Organise translatory meet up for Saturday

DH being off sick is at least enabling me to get back up to date with my work. Think we’re going to finally get DS1 back to school tomorrow. Yay!

What else has been going on?

WhoKnows had a very impressive day yesterday

Ellie is holding out for the weekend but was surprised by children behaving themselves.

Snowgirl now also has the lurgy – sympathies and brew coming your way.

Toffee had a bad night and a DS off sick. Neither of our DSs are known for suffering in silence either. <hands over earplugs>

feet had a doable list and was having savoury pancakes for dinner – that’s not cheating, we did too, and sweet ones for pudding. smile

Jdub had people bringing her nutella pancakes. Mmm!

Engelse got quite a bit done despite being poorly and having a poorly DS.

Lilleth was blaming the soft play – sounds fair to me.

Just is hacking away without overdoing it.

NickNacks enjoyed making pancakes and is getting a new cooker.

Going was having a “damn you autocorrect” moment. Sorry to hear about DD’s reaction to calpol – must have been worrying, and glad it’s improving. grin at vipers though.

*******************
Tomorrow appears to be Wednesday (losing track of time here), which is anti-procrastination day.

Babystep 13 is to do a mission…

… and the mission is to clean the bathroom cabinet and the computer screen.
*******************

Crikeyblimey Tue 12-Feb-13 22:24:05

Evening all. Sorry I've been absent for so long. Hope everyone who is poorly soon feels better.

I have sinned sad. I have been pretty much grounded for the last week. I've just about managed to keep the sink shiney and on top of the laundry. Dh was away all last week and I was running just to keep up. Back to it from tomorrow though.

Have good Wednesdays all.

ToffeeWhirl Tue 12-Feb-13 23:21:49

Goth - that's worrying about your DD's allergic reaction to Calpol. I'm glad Piriton sorted it, but sounds as if you should get her checked out at the GP and maybe avoid Calpol for now. Could also have been a viral rash, I suppose, but best to be sure. Hope she's better by tomorrow.

DS2 has been really poorly today sad: high temperature, wheezing, general malaise. He is off his food, but he did manage to eat a couple of pancakes (Feet - you are right about his priorities wink). We have put him in our bed for tonight, with DH sleeping in his bed, as we couldn't face another night of traipsing back and forth between rooms and, hopefully, he will feel safer if he's sleeping with me. He is sleeping soundly at the moment... <crosses fingers>

Not much Flying done today. Managed to fit in some productive home ed in between looking after DS2. DM is arriving tomorrow, so I will be crisis cleaning first thing.

Sorry for lack of personals. I have caught up with the thread, but am too sleepy now to respond. Am really hoping for a decent night's sleep tonight.

Good night, fledglings.

ToffeeWhirl Wed 13-Feb-13 08:17:04

And good morning smile.

Managed a less broken night with DS2 in my bed, but he was wide awake by 5. I am on coffee to keep awake <props eyelids open with matches>.

House is in a state, so have lots to do this morning before DM arrives. DS1 will have to do some independent work <hopeful>.

Think I will employ the power of 15 minutes.

Hope you all have a good day.

ToffeeWhirl Wed 13-Feb-13 09:37:23

<looks for missing fledglings in naughty corner>

just good luck with sludgefest, You are a bit of an inspiration really.

Goth ds can't have calpol at all. It isn't the paracetamol that he reacts to it is the other ingredients of the syrup. He has been on prescribed soluble paracetamol since he was little but now it is much easier as he is big enough just to have half a tablet of over-counter paracetamol.

House has some heat. But it is intermittent. Grateful for any heat. Did too much yesterday and suffering today. Still don't know my own limits so need to work on this.

toffee hope ds2 starts to feel better soon so you can get some sleep.

LillethTheCat Wed 13-Feb-13 11:11:56

Morning.

tada
- Turn on Washing machine
- Dry Laundry
- Man come to put a new window in
- make beds
- ring up A at adult learning about part 2 of a course (was not there today, to ring tomorrow)

to do
- take laundry upstairs
- wash up 2 X
- Shine sink
- Tidy up front room after DCs in bed
- hour on exercise bike (7 till 8 I think if not before)

<waves to everyone, apologises for lack of personals and wishes speedy recovery to everyone whose ill, whether its people on this thread or those they care about>

elliepac Wed 13-Feb-13 17:19:39

Quiet on here today! We have heavy snow here atm and for once I am glad to see it because it means i can make a valid excuse for not going to swimming lessonsgrin.

Ta da:-
Feck allgrin
Work (does that count? grin)

To do:-
Fecking everything grin

I was going to go shopping for dd's birthday presents tonight but weather has put paid to that. Just taken DS to the shop to buy his first ever Valentine's card...my baby boy is growing upsad.

toffee I hope DS2 is feeling a bit better now.

bitchy glad you have some warmth at least.

Better get on and do fecking everythinggrin.

ToffeeWhirl Wed 13-Feb-13 18:40:20

Yes, very quiet here today, Ellie confused. Aww at your DS buying his first ever Valentine card.

Lilleth - am impressed at your hour on the bike.

Bitchy - glad you are getting a bit of heat at least, but hope heating is back on fully soon.

DS2 seems much better, so I'm planning to take him back to school tomorrow <crosses fingers>.

DM cancelled her visit after hearing about all the illness (DH off sick today as well). Her partner is having chemo and she can't risk carrying germs back to him. Am sorry she's not here, but also relieved that I was able to go to bed and catch up on sleep rather than tidying up the house.

Am hoping to get back to normal tomorrow, with DS1 and I able to concentrate properly on home ed whilst DS2 is at school.

Cooking beef hotpot now. Meringues for pudding (DM's favourite). wine is open.

<leaves opened bottle in the naughty corner>

GoingGoingGoth Wed 13-Feb-13 19:30:22

Afternoon all,

Bitchy So pleased you've some heating, fingers crossed it's working properly ASAP.

DD's allergy is much better today, thanks for all the good wishes, she's still full of cold, but I'm not giving her anything but Priton for the foreseeable future. Luckily she so pleased her face has calmed down that she isn't complaining about the cold. Poor little soul, I wouldn't normally give her a full dosage of calpol, but she had such a sore throat, and was absolutely miserable unless drugged up.

She's back to her normal self, so as I had to fill some forms in for my job, she came out with me and we had the afternoon at the People's Palace & Winter Gardens. Was lovely, had so much fun. So hopefully this half term break hasn't been a complete wipe out for her. Can't believe she's back at school tomorrow.

Done
Beds
Windows
Litter tray
Recycling out
Washing in

To do
Ironing
Wash up & SS

Looking forward to tomorrow and not because DD is at school, or some misguided hopes that DH is going to romantically surprise me, but that I'm meeting up with another MNer for coffee. Follow up from the knitting circle the other week. Yay me, making new friend! (vote now- sad or needy grin) MN has been a lifesaver since moving away from home.

Engelsemama Wed 13-Feb-13 19:31:01

Evening all. Have been lurking today rather than posting and was expecting not to post any ta da's today but managed a few things...

washing-up
decluttered pile of stuff from under my bed for an hour - a lot of important paperwork and stuff to chuck
decluttered my shelf of cards/writing paper/staionary and misc rubbish (more stuff for the bin and all arranged a bit neater now)
decluttered hot spot (lounge table)
emptied bin

As I was decluttering I was thinking to myself, 'The fledglings will be proud!' blush

No washing as there is something blocking the machine and it's leaking everywhere ('something' will probably be a duplo dog - we found the decapitated feet in the filter yesterday but no idea where rest of it is. Requires further investigation tomorrow from DH).

Apart from that have done very little today. DS was well enough to go to nursery and apart from my decluttering burst this afternoon, I have spent most of the day on the sofa surrounded by tissues and watching some trashy films.

To do list for tomorrow
Take my car for service
Go to our friendly travel agent with DH and DS and get quotes for flights/car hire for our summer holiday
Dismantle and pack away playpen (we never use it now)
Try and get a bit more decluttering done (should go through wardrobe and underwear draws)
(if DH solves washing machine riddle) washing

Am hoping to be feeling a bit physically better tomorrow so we can enjoy the day as a family (it's DH's day off), given that we didn't really get a fun weekend away together with DH and DS ill when we were in the UK.

I am pushing work to the back of my mind right now. I have a hundred and one things to do, whihc I was planning on getting a start on these last 2 days. But being ill has put paid to that. Bloody typical. If it was a school week this week there is no way I would have been in. I'll start thinking about it all when I feel better - weekend at the earliest. I might ask MIL if she can babysit for me on Monday so I can spend some time catching up on marking/planning. But I'll think about that later.

Right now I just want a little peace and for us all to be feeling fit and healthy.

wine will help, right?

NickNacks Wed 13-Feb-13 19:35:46

Are we all looking forward to Valentine's day?

What do you have planned?

Evening all,

Just scanned through, sorry so many people are poorly in various families.

Glad you've got heat Bitchy

Glad DD is better today Goth

smile at DS and his Valentine Ellie. DS was given one by a girl in his class in Yr R, she had a major crush on him (it didn't last, he hadn't got the faintest idea how to deal with it). Neither of my two have mentioned it this week.

NickNacks - we don't really do much for Valentines, we've just had both DCs birthdays and mine is next week, so we are a bit celebrated out at this time of year and neither DH or I are particularly romantic. We do cards and token gifts, maybe something nice for dinner (if DH isn't working late). I might pop into M&S in the morning for the dinner for two thing.

House looks quite tidy. DD had a friend round after school, friend is very nice but has a habit of saying "isn't your house untidy DD?, isn't your car dirty DD?, we only have homemade pesto, not Waitrose Finest DD" and generally making me feel inadequate, so I had a good tidy up this afternoon and as a result there are two Ikea blue bags of random toys on my bed.

ToffeeWhirl Wed 13-Feb-13 19:52:55

Looking forward to Valentine's Day? <laughs bitterly>

25 years together and Dh wasn't too good at the Valentine's Day stuff to start with. He thinks it's commercialised.

Are you doing anything, NickNacks?

grin at you thinking of us as you decluttered, Engels.

Glad your DD is feeling better today, Goth.

Have drunk too much fizzy wine and am in danger of spouting nonsense, so will bow out swiftly...

Engelsemama Wed 13-Feb-13 19:54:02

DH and I have decided that for Valentine's Day this year we will try not to wake each other up by snoring or coughing in each other's face. (easier said than done right now)

His gifts to me are to come with me for my car service so I can get a discount (dealer is a friend of ILs), book our trip to NZ so I can visit my best friend and Dsis this summer (fx we'll make a decision tomorrow) and fix the washing machine so I can (joy of joys) continue to lovingly wash our mostly mine clothes.

My gift to him tomorrow is not sneezing on him and being my lovely charming self. I have also been a thoughtful food shopper this week and bought him things that he likes (even though I am ill and could have stayed at home in bed until the cupboards were completely bare).

grin

Engels - i like your valentine's day plan! grin

I am ignoring valentines day. tomo is just thursday.

SilveryMoon Wed 13-Feb-13 20:11:00

Eveining. Haven't caught up yet.
Who's watching Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners on C4?
This guy hoovers twice a day! Twice a day! Put's my once a week to shame blush

LillethTheCat Wed 13-Feb-13 20:37:58

Evening. Didn't quite manage an hour on the bike, my bum got too sore. They dont make them comfy do they? Oh well did half an hour and some weights for my arms too so its better than nothing. Need a cross trainer now so I can do that for 20 mins. Thing is Im scared of buying one incase it ends up to be a waste of money. That's what they say, that any exercise equipment you use just turns into another place to hang clothes. Good thing it looks like the weather's going to be ok so I can get to Parkrun on Sat morning. Might consider going out Sun afternoon too.

Anyway today's tasks

tada
- Turn on Washing machine
- Dry Laundry
- Man come to put a new window in
- make beds
- ring up A at adult learning about part 2 of a course (was not there today, to ring tomorrow, she was there apparently and rang me back so one less thing to do tomorrow now grin)
- take laundry upstairs
- fill washing machine for tomorrow
- wash up 2 X
- Shine sink
- Tidy up front room after DCs in bed
- hour on exercise bike (OK so it was only half an hour, but better than nothing)
- put contents of kitchen draw in a box (well most of it, some things I know we use so they have stayed in. Have told DH that Im chucking the box on 1st June which I'll probably forget )

tomorrow's list
- turn on washing machine
- Dry laundry
- put laundry away
- wash up 2X
- Shine sink (if DH has washed up after tea)
- Fill washing machine ready for Fri
- Make beds
- Go to AAT course

Just a short one tomorrow for me I think.

Now sat in my pjs infront of the heater feeling all clean and snuggly. Happy days grin

Valentines day????? Never done it, never will. I personally dont want a bunch of flowers just because its Feb 14th, but because I am loved if that makes sense. Dont do mothers day either, or fathers day. Infact dont really do birthdays (only for the DCs) Plus Im not into all that mushy stuff. Though DS has made me a card apparently.

Hope you're all having a lovely evening.

Lilleth that's exactly how I feel about Valentines, Mother's Day, grownups birthdays etc. We do go through the motions with cards etc though.

SilveryMoon Wed 13-Feb-13 20:54:29

Same here re valentine's day etc.
Although, lately, I've been a bit annoyed with dp lately and have seen a bottle of wine, and stuff for dinner tomorrow in the fridge, so looks like he's making an effort to have a nice evening

Crikeyblimey Wed 13-Feb-13 22:13:32

Tomorrow is NOT Valentine's day in our house as it is DH's birthday, so if we do ever get round to exchanging cards, we always do that on 15th instead. I genuinely don't think it is fair to ask dh to give me a card or gift on his birthday. I have never been fussed as he is lovely every (well, most) days and on Saturday he bought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers "just because" smile. (he had just come back from a very indulgent, week long, child free week climbing in Scotland!, so that might have had something to do with it).

Today has been busy:
Work from 8am to 5
Ds in school by 7.45 for tennis club
Came home to dh having made dinner smile
Ds to cubs
Wash up
One load of washing washed and in dryer
Hot spot (dining table) extinguished mostly
Picked up ds and friend from cubs
Bath
Cheese and biscuits for supper (cos I have a cold and needed the extra strong pickled onions).

To do:
Too much to care about at this time of night.

Happy DH's birthday to one and all smile

Evening all.

Finally got DS1 back to school, so it’s been lovely and quiet here today… Got plenty of work done, and the ironing. Plumber’s been round this evening to discuss fitting the new bathroom, which all sounds good except we can’t settle on any tiles.

What else has been going on?

Crikey has been running to keep up while her DH was away. Shiny sink and laundry under control is good going in my book, so don’t be down about it. Happy birthday to your DH for tomorrow, too.

Toffee had a better night and was missing seeing her DM while being glad of the chance to catch up on sleep. Hope everyone feels better soon.

Bitchy has some heat but has been overdoing it. Take it easy! [stern]

Ellie was glad of snow to prevent her from having to face swimming lessons. Given how often work appears in my ta-da lists, it better count! Hope you managed fecking everything.

Going had a lovely afternoon out with her DD. Glad the allergy’s gone down.

Engelse has done some decluttering – yay! – and is wanting some peace and good health. I’ll drink to that. wine She is also planning a Valentines day without snoring or coughing.

NickNacks wondered if we were looking forward to Valentines.

WhoKnows was tidying up for a disconcerting friend of her DD’s.

Silvery was watching other people clean and also musing on Valentines.

Lilleth has been exercising, getting through a good list and feeling cosy.

Tomorrow I have a dentist appointment and a story time event at DS2’s nursery to go to. Hoping for a chance to do a bit of shopping before and after, and a lunch at DS2’s favourite café to cheer us up a bit. I know DH hasn’t got me a card because he’s been too ill, and he told me so. I did get him a card though, and we’ll have a nice, lazy dinner.

**********************
Thursday is errand day.

The Babystep is to read an essay on using a calendar hmm – anyone read this? I feel quite insulted by it so never have…

The mission is to do a bathroom inventory and clear your desk top.
***********************

Night all.

Jdub Thu 14-Feb-13 09:46:35

Good morning lovely people, and hurray, the sun is out smile

I cannot believe it's Thursday already, and yesterday was quite a productive day off (cake made and made 2 Valentine Cards for my ds's!!)

Tonight is Waitrose £20 meal deal night - WOOOHOOOOO!!! Looking forward to a fab feast!! And therefore, no chores for me tonight!

Have a lovely day x

ToffeeWhirl Thu 14-Feb-13 10:00:11

I like the sound of that meal deal night, Jdub. What a good idea.

I was going to send DS2 back to school today, but he still has a dreadful cough and sore throat, so I relented, and he is now tucked up on the sofa watching children's telly.

DH has gone back to work today. Am hoping he will bring food and wine home with him later.

Hope you all have a good day.

Quiet on here today!

M&S have a £20 meal deal on too, so I got one but we'll eat it tomorrow in the hope that we'll both be feeling better by then.

My DH has also gone back to work today, and I have done the dentist, shopping and been to the story café at DS2's nursery. We have also been to a real café for lunch. smile

I have had 2 days flat on my back asleep. it is a bit rediculous really. I have also in the last hour managed to drink 2ltrs of coke so i suspect I shall be finding it difficult to sleep later. hmm but I do have a whole heap of projects that have a deadline completion of tomo morning so that should keep me out of trouble. Stuff for my nephew that i need to get in the post cos it is needed now and won't wait til i go visit in a few weeks. grin

Ta Da
rest
drink too much caffine
sort out plans for wkend and beginning of week next wk
Hand wash my handwash only training kit

LillethTheCat Thu 14-Feb-13 14:40:23

Wash up
S&S
Finished business plan & emailed it in
Dd to school &back-the kids all thought she had chicken pox, she soon set them straight.
Lunch cancelled, friend's DS got lurgy sad

Could just go to sleep, so considering copying Bitchy and upping caffeine levels, may get DH to make me a coffee, it's always too strong for me.

SilveryMoon Thu 14-Feb-13 17:02:04

Evening all. Dp bought the tesco meal deal.
Don't think he planed for me to be sent home from work ill and be laying in bed with hot water bottle and thumping head ache.
Was looking forward to that bottle of wine. :-(

Caffine has about hit <bounce>
<leaves a pot of bitchy's special brew in the naughty corner for all that needs it>

Hope you feel a bit better soon silvery

ToffeeWhirl Thu 14-Feb-13 19:06:50

Oh, Silvery, sorry you are ill too <wonders if fledglings are catching germs from each other confused>.

Thanks for the brew, Bitchy, but am on the wine now grin.

Ta da :

Swish and swipe
Home ed with reluctant DS1
Various negotiations with DS2 so that he would let us work
Lunch
Washed our bedclothes
Hung them out to dry (first time this year)
Room rescue in kitchen
Room rescue in DS2's bedroom
Room rescue in our bedroom
Dumped piles of dry washing on ironing board sad
Cooked chicken casserole (DH came home from work early and was feeling too ill to get any meal deals)
Poured wine

So glad it's half term next week. We all need a break from the routine.

Cuddledup Thu 14-Feb-13 19:28:37

You're right - we're all ill! I'm also coughing and spluttering. CBA to do any flying at all - I'm concentrating on de cluttering the wine stash! Get better soon y'all. XX

PS My boss went to North Carolina this week_ home of the Purple Lady- but I managed to resist asking him to get me some purple rags and all the other purple paraphernalia!

Must away my glass is dry wine (Good thing I didn't give up wine for Lent!)

<dons face mask before entering thread>.

Everyone fit and well here, but it's half term next week so someone's bound to get ill.

Just eaten an M&S meal deal with DH with the DCs still up and about (we were starving) so not very romantic but it was nice. A glass of wine has made me feel all drowsy now (I'm a very occasional drinker lightweight).

Not much Flying today, been at work, then DS had football this evening.

<heads for naughty corner>

Good evening one and all.

Today’s been quiet both on the thread and in real life.

Jdub was looking forward to a fab chore-free feast. smile

Toffee had a DH back to work and a DS still off sick, and had moved onto the wine.

Bitchy was veering between sleep and caffeine and trying to get things in the post.

Lilleth and Going popped in with quick lists.

Silvery has gone down with the lurgy sad - hope you feel better soon.

Cuddled was decluttering the wine too and resisted asking her boss for souvenirs from the land of the Fat Fairy.

WhoKnows had an unromantic but tasty meal deal and was last seen heading for the naughty corner with a face mask on…

*****************
Woohoo, it’s Friday tomorrow! That’s declutter your handbag and car day, and also date night.

Babystep 15 is to add making your bed to your morning routine.

Mission is bathroom skirting boards and an inventory of office supplies.
******************

<Leaves tray of wine, brew and biscuit on the naughty corner bar and collapses on the cushions>

Big waves to all, and hope all the poorly people are feeling better soon.

Thank fuck tomo is friday!

NickNacks Fri 15-Feb-13 08:27:36

Good morning!

Are people feeling better yet?

Bitchy are you not having a good night?

I, despite having to work, had a good day!

I bought DH some personalised cupcakes, he bought me a dozen red roses, and we had a meal got two from M & S and an early night ;) Not an expensive day but we enjoyed it all the same smile

Today I will be working (8.30-3pm) as its inset day but house I'd a bit untidy. Eek!

Quick today
One wash and dry
Wash lots of pans
Make beds
Hoover sitting room
Beaver/cub runs

Thursdays are just a long day in this house. Then today is the day where i have to play nice and be incredibly civil and grown up when I just want to scream fuck the fuck off and when you get there fuck off some more. But can't.
In theory this is my child free weekend when i can relax a little bit. Unfortunately it seems there has been a planning fail and i have more to achieve this weekend then i would normally do in one week. And the washing machine is broken so i shall have to do a load in the bath tub the old fashioned way hmm

Need to hit the ground running <leaves a vat of bitchy's special brew in the naughty corner>

Ta da
parcel up stuff for sending
panic at length of to do list
start the intake of caffine
sit down with pen and paper and plan this weekend coherently.
Panic a bit more

NickNacks Fri 15-Feb-13 09:39:44

Oh sorry it's a bit shit at the moment bitchy sad

Will join you on the vat of brew if that's ok? I have 6 here today and feeling a headache coming on...

Engelsemama Fri 15-Feb-13 09:40:20

Still ill here sad That makes the whole half term and then back to work next week...sod's law.

Am currently scoffing shortbread to make myself feel better wink

LPlateFlyer Fri 15-Feb-13 09:44:11

<slinks in quietly, looks around the place, barely recognises it. Sits down firmly in the naughty corner with a hot cup of tea and a chocolate chip cookie>

Hi everyone, <big, guilty wave> think I've been awol for over a month this time! blush

House is in chaos, life is in chaos..... eeek!!!

Starting a new business with two others, and juggling the work required to set up with no money coming in to actually pay for some decent childcare is taking its toll. DH is trying to help, and has been brilliant, but I need to get the house sorted and routines established or everything will come crashing down in a heap.

Sigh... how many times have I said this before though???!!!

Right, 2 hours of crisis cleaning coming up, then a last supper (lunch) with some friends before we can no longer have lunches and have to move to catching up over dinner (work commitments for 2 of the 3 of us).

LPlateFlyer Fri 15-Feb-13 09:46:44

Sorry you're facing such a rubbish day and weekend, bitchy

Hope you feel better soon, Engels

NickNacks - 6?! You'll need more than a vat of brew!!!

ToffeeWhirl Fri 15-Feb-13 09:49:46

A reluctant DS2 went back to school today. House seems very quiet now smile.

To do :

Home ed
Discuss outings with DS1
Library
Do morning routines on return
Lunch
School run

Sorry you have been ill all half term, Engels sad.

And sorry you are having a tough day and that the washing machine has broken, Bitchy. Hope you can get it sorted soon.

NickNacks - that sounds like a lovely Valentine's Day smile.

Thanks for the round up, Blue. It was unusually quiet on the thread yesterday. I expect everyone was too busy cleaning to post wink.

I have done today's babystep and made my bed <proud emoticon>.

Hope everyone has a good day.

GoingGoingGoth Fri 15-Feb-13 11:28:55

Swigs back mug of Bitchy's [brew now that hits the spotgrin
You're not having much luck atm, is your heating working properly now? Hope the washer is soon sorted, I've done a bath wash before, it's getting the bloody stuff rung out properly which I hate.

Hope everyone with the lurgy or poorly DC's are feeling better.

We have glorious sunshine in Glasgow, I have all my windows open, and am in a cleaning mood today. DH keeps moving in case I dust him.
