I thought it was time for a new Autumnal thread for all slatterns.

This thread is welcome to all who like to write lists or have loads of jobs to get done or if you need a kick up the bum for motivation. Also good for support with relationships, random advice on moths and birthday cakes!

We welcome new slatterns, post your lists here.

Back in a sec with my list.

I tried Flylady in the past but I think maybe I fit more in with the "slattern" category wink

I am trying to juggle being a mum to 2 DC, attempting to be an artist and keep a house from descending into chaos. A bit hard not to drop some of the balls! grin

Off to pick up DD from nursery in a mo!

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Mon 01-Oct-12 13:41:42

Welcome TheArtisticSlattern, good name.

This thread was started yonks back by someone also trying to juggle being a mum and getting over PND. She pops by occasionally smile

We are less 'hardcore' than fly lady.

I have 2xDC, work full time and have got hideous period pain today sad.

The others will be by in a bit. They are probably also juggling grin

Oh I love a good list and am a slattern grin.

ByTheWay1 Mon 01-Oct-12 14:36:10

I do lists all the time....... never actually finished one though..... am a complete slattern....

I have 2 girls 10 and 11, a part time job as a mid-day in school and find many many, many excuses not to do anything much....... I ALWAYS need a kick up the bum for motivation!! always......

have I found a "home"........

TheArtisticSlattern Mon 01-Oct-12 14:51:28

Hi all, just going to have a brew before the school run.
I feel like I haven't done much today but seem to have been busy confused

I suppose I have been spending a good half hour or so trying to get DD to potty train (still no success) hmm and was out for an hour or 2 this morning.

<eyes up all the dirty cups in kitchen> shock

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Mon 01-Oct-12 16:05:21

Welcome issimma and ByTheWay1 - list away!

TheArtistic - being busy yet not achieving much is a common theme in these parts. DD (age 3) has recently potty trained so I feel your pain.

Am hoping the other slatterns turn up in a bit too.

FreakoidOrganisoid Mon 01-Oct-12 16:35:32

I am a slattern and I have no excuse apart from sheer laziness and too much MN. I don't even have small people, just a DH and one 16 year old left at home during term time.
Today's list:
Tidy and clean kitchen (was at work all yesterday) - partly done
Make bed-done
Wash towels-done
Do four other loads of washing- done
collect dogs pills from vet-done
Sort out wireless booster for MNing in bedroom -done
Get hair-cut-done
Sort out OU stuff for course starting on Saturday- partly done
Get claim forms from pet insurance-done.

Still got to cook supper and empty dishwasher
Sort out last load of washing when it's dry.

Tomorrow:
Mop kitchen floor,
Make beds
Hoover through
Take DS to dentist
Have a nap in preparation for a night shift.

On nights for the rest of the week so will have to write off getting much done then.

FreakoidOrganisoid Mon 01-Oct-12 19:02:24

Why thank you hmhb. Have also now done the 30 day shred (just one day of it!), fed the children a random assortment of leftovers, read to ds, listened to dd read, measured the dc and emailed my aunt with the measurements and started running their bath. Next stop get them to bed and tidy up the kitchen.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Mon 01-Oct-12 19:11:15

So in fact Freakoid you have done tonnes. Have a cuppa.

Nice to see you Lifeisontheup, good list.

TheArtisticSlattern Mon 01-Oct-12 21:03:35

<Bounces into thread>

Hello all <waves>

I am like this-----> grin

I have just sold my first painting! grin

I always used to do drawing as a hobby but this year I had a go at acrylics and joined an art group.
It's a bit hard trying to fit everything in but I think I will need to try! smile

Minimammoth Mon 01-Oct-12 22:50:42

Well done Artistic. I paint too and it's always a buzz if when you sell one.
Hello all new slatterns brew <hands round hobnobs>.
Mad here today as painter turned up 1hr late to start painting conservatory, steam coming out of DHs ears as he hates it when people are late. But had failed to tell me this was happening at all. Water off all day. Then solar panel bloke coming to fill forms etc also not passed on to me. Electric off tomorrow.
Will list .......eventually.

Alibabaandthe40nappies Mon 01-Oct-12 23:03:26

Hello hello - well done on the new thread HMHB, you can tick that job off your list grin

Welcome New Slatterns!

Today hasn't been vastly successful. I've been to the gym and had my flu jab and done school runs - they take up so much bloody time, it is a nightmare. Preschool was a 4 minute trot up the road, 4 minutes back again. Ho hum.

I need to fold laundry so that DS1 has trousers for the morning and then go to bed.

TUESDAY
School runs
1 load of washing
Make dinner in advance
Vacuuming
Online banking
Tell school about hospital appt. for DS1 on Wednesday (eye check up, nothing serious)

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Tue 02-Oct-12 09:02:25

popping in to say hi - back later....

issimma Tue 02-Oct-12 09:49:17

FreshWest Tue 02-Oct-12 13:13:18

issima As you're a fan of spreadsheets, I'll share our meal planning method.
We have a spreadsheet which lists approx 30 meals which we like to eat. It also uses the columns to list ingredients needed for each dish, including any herbs etc.
Then every Sunday evening it's DH job to pick seven meals for the coming week (his job cos he's a lot fussier than me smile ). I make the shopping list using the spreadsheet and decide which day we will eat which meal. Go shopping on a Monday and jobs done!
No blind panic every morning as to what to have for tea and what needs to be defrosted! Makes for a much less stressful life.

FreakoidOrganisoid Tue 02-Oct-12 13:33:44

Yep ali you and jks deserve a medal for being a two man band while the rest of us slacked off!

I've stripped my bed, been to work and had lunch. Second load of washing in machine, first out on line. Have made couple of phonecalls but not really got anywhere.

Still to do
Shred
Learning diaries
Wait for Nicholas in the lemon van to deliver grin
Hang out second load of washing
Bring in washing fold put away iron etc
Remake my bed
Pick up dc
Look for dds library book
Cook dinner
Wash up
Hoover
Bath and bed dc

Sigh.
Have work doom, divorce doom and coursewrok doom hanging over me. Making it hard to start on anything.

issimma Tue 02-Oct-12 13:36:12

thanks fresh that's been on my 'sort it out' list in my head for a while. Will get busy with Excel later grin.

Lifeisontheup Tue 02-Oct-12 13:40:24

Make some notes for OU course
Go and collect new wireless access thingy from shop.

JKSLtd Tue 02-Oct-12 14:54:20

My internet is not behaving so I can read stuff on my phone but find it a right faff to post properly on it.

Posting this so this comes on Threads I'm On before the net crashes again.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Tue 02-Oct-12 19:16:26

issimma Tue 02-Oct-12 20:21:11

Ebay just linked itself confused.

Hello! I'm definitely in the slattern category and need a good kick to motivate me. Today when I finally got round to it I did manage to get a few things done:

Cleared out understairs cupboard
Sorted out DSs' books that they've grown out of
Organised all the clutter on top of kitchen cupboards (threw out a lot of it!)
Hoovered out the car (and whilst it was out, hoovered understairs cupboard and living room rug)
Am about to have a bath - whilst it's running I'll clean the bathroom, maybe chuck out some of the mankier bath toys!

Tomorrow I need to:
Take car for its MOT first thing (please let it pass!!!)
Sort out the baby clothes in loft into categories and label them
Have a sort out of DC's clothes and my own - take unwanted ones to charity shop and box up the ones we want to keep in case of future babies!
Have a ruthless toy-chucking session whilst DC are at school!

Alibabaandthe40nappies Tue 02-Oct-12 21:22:49

issima that is a bit scary, it has done it for me too! Ebay

I feel rubbish today after my flu jab, really achey and, well fluey! grin

List done today, plus

More laundry
Booked DS1 onto his next lot of swimming lessons
Picked up dry cleaning
Half hour of housework - it is the week when my cleaner doesn't come and my parents are coming up tomorrow so a little spruce up needed!

Laundry if necessary
E-mail accountant
Pick DS1 up and take him swimming

FreakoidOrganisoid Tue 02-Oct-12 21:26:09

Twolittlemonkeys you've done loads!! I would consider it major accomplishment
to do even one of those things in a day!

The bay of E seems to be on a takeover bid, I've seen it linked on a few threads and it keeps setting itself as my homepage

JKS - have a lovely holiday!!!!!!

madelineashtoninhiding Wed 03-Oct-12 09:58:07

Hello... can I come and be a slattern?

Major procrastination situation today...

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Wed 03-Oct-12 10:02:13

madelineashtoninhiding, Can we call you MAIH? Come join us. I am supposed to be at work but I will give you a poke with a feather duster to get you going. Lets see your list!

madelineashtoninhiding Wed 03-Oct-12 10:19:45

Yes you may - it sounds a bit like "meh" which s how I feel today smile

Well, making me feel even worse is that I have a cleaner who is currently cleaning my house while I MN blush (ooh, can I add the things she's doing to my list and tick them off as she goes hmm smile)

But I have a list and I can't seem to start it. I spent yesterday doing all the easy bits and am now left with the crap.

Here goes:

Send invoices out to stall holders for PTA fair (15)
Empty paddling pool and put away (mouldy and full of tadpoles)
Put glass protector film on all low windows (Ofsted requirement - Childminder)
Confirm stall holders for another event
Sew coloured ribbons on to mindees towels
Attach fire blanket to wall
Write a fire escape plan confused (no frickin clue)
Tax return
Change EON plan
Big dust of entire upstairs

Eurghh. Best put the kettle on.

issimma Wed 03-Oct-12 10:31:04

I want jks's list! envy

hello maih - I'm also procrastinating. Just CBA today.

TheArtisticSlattern Wed 03-Oct-12 10:44:48

I also have a case of CBA today. I am too tired to do anything!

Gonna make myself take a shower in a mo, that might make me feel better <hopeful>

Have been procrastinating on facebook so far today.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Wed 03-Oct-12 10:58:04

For MAIH
Fire escape plan. Run screaming from building waving arms above head?

madelineashtoninhiding Wed 03-Oct-12 11:08:47

Halfmum that is excellent - are you a childminder too by chance..? You're a natural! wink

Facebook has let me down today, let me down. No one is on it. And my friend just told me to stop emailingher as she's at work blush

madelineashtoninhiding Wed 03-Oct-12 11:10:03

Okay - here goes. I am going to complete the invoicing stuff by lunchtime - okay?

As for the tax return, my government gateway password has expired... that is even the government telling me that I procrastinate too much now.

ByTheWay1 Wed 03-Oct-12 11:25:23

My (first time ) list for the day...

take kids to school, (done)
take dog for walk (done)
go get some phone credit (that one has been on list for 3 days - now desperate)
buy some butter (to make a lemon drizzle cake!)
make a lemon drizzle cake
make something stunningly delicious for tea
hoover (yeughhhhh)
Go to work (mid day supervisor)
have lunch whilst emptying dishwasher
(collapse on to sofa whilst berating self at having done not a lot on the list whilst watching NCIS:Los Angeles)
pick up kids
email stepmum to see if she is ok (had a minor op today)

know - I need to go hoover at least!! Someone needs to give me a shove.....

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Wed 03-Oct-12 11:49:27

Go ByTheWay1 - surely the lemon drizzle cake has priority?

madelineashtoninhiding Wed 03-Oct-12 11:54:21

Don't know if youre a weight watcher but if it were me I'd be thinking that the calories burned whilst hoovering would earn me an extra slice of drizzle cake and therefore worth doing... (and that is why I am chubby)

Minimammoth Wed 03-Oct-12 12:11:41

Hi everyone, sympathies with tax return Mad, also just to start you off: In the event of fire.......
There is probably a template on the net somewhere, google health and safety.
List
Sort washing, attempt to dry it.
Attempt belly pork recipe. ( now oven is on )
Write report
Check prep for weekend
Tidy bedroom change bed
Filing
Ring re -mortgage thingy
Pick beans and raspberries
Do something creative with beans and raspberries.
Watch bake off

Bye

ByTheWay1 Wed 03-Oct-12 14:31:49

Well, I have hoovered - and thanks to the (very sensible!!) suggestions on here I have prioritised the Lemon drizzle cake and will have an extra slice especially for you lot - for getting me off my bum!

There is method in the madness - if I make the lemon cake, I have to go out to buy butter - I go to the same shop where I can buy some phone credit - do TOMORROW'S job of pay for the papers and pick up the kids on the way home - a veritable bucketful of tasks ticked off - and AHEAD of myself for one of them!!

I like this thread..... grin

Minimammoth Wed 03-Oct-12 16:18:05

List of accomplishments
Sort washing, attempt to dry it. Washing part done -drying hopeless
Attempt belly pork recipe. Cooking now and smells good
Write report. Chickened out
Check prep for weekend yup
Tidy bedroom change bed yup
Filing nope
Ring re -mortgage thingy yup
Pick beans and raspberries yup
Do something creative with beans and raspberries. Erm...
Watch bake off -half baked

I can't believe all your babies aren't babies anymore, have I really been AWOL that long!!
Well we have been talking about it on and off for a few years then we sort said well we'll sart thinking abit more seriously about it and it happened took us both by surprise how quickly, think after 5 year gap we thought it would take a while.

Anyway I will be 17 weeks on Thursday, due 21st March and we are going to use all the will power in the world not to find out, although had a quick scan last week, as I was stressed over dd1 (now on weekly injections), think doc felt sorry for me and baby had its foot right over its head, when I told dh he immediately asked could I see anything. Coming from the man who said NO to finding out!

dd1 got an A in her 11+ and got the school of her choice and is loving it. She is still plagued with her eye problems but we are now seeing a new doctor who is determined to get her off eyedrops, as they aren't designed for long term use and she has been on them 9 years now!
ds is 9 and dd2 will be 6 eek, I moved them to a bigger school as I got very stressed about dd1 moving from such a small school to such a big school and not knowing anyone, (plus I was starting to worry that too small a class size wasn't agood thing either), so they are loving their new school thank God.
I have scaled down the number of cakes now as I am too busy getting VAT rtns in on time Mini and keeping on top of other office stuff and running to hospital appointments with dd1, I was beginning to think I was going to actually let someone down, so family cakes only now!
(Sorry wasn't such a quick update)

Freak who is the handsome man in the wedding photos?

JKS how is ds2 doing?

HMHB what kind of cake?

Hang out washing done

Alibabaandthe40nappies Tue 09-Oct-12 09:28:30

Morning all! Wondering if I can join please? I'm a SAHM for the time being and have 2 DCS- DS who is 20 months and DD 5 months.

Will be back at lunchtime to actually add list but just marking my place.

Hope everyone is having a good morning!

nocluenoclueatall Tue 09-Oct-12 11:07:25

This thread is giving me the collywobbles. You may all be slatterns (this I doubt) but you're bloody productive slatterns... unlike the rest of us.

Today I've:

Put a load of laundry in
Called kiddicare to find out when the new pushchair's being delivered
Taken DS to nursery
Stripped one of the beds
Had two lovely chats with old friends on the phone
Called the plumber and got him round to fix the boiler
Bled one of the radiators after he left and have broken the boiler again.

I still need to do the following:

Call an estate agent, give him a massive piece of my mind (long story) then report him to the relevant authorities (don't even go there)
Finish the tax return that's been sitting in a pile for the last three months
Hang out the washing
Put clean sheets on the bed
Tidy the house
Pick up DS
Get some shopping in for tea tonight and buy a present for MIL
Get DS fed and get out of the house in time to go out with DH tonight.

All of which may or may not get done, depending on how long I spend goofing around on MN....

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Tue 09-Oct-12 11:40:32

No clue - we aren't scary honest. We are definately not competitive slatterns. Just helping each other where we can.

Gummi- all sounds good. Congrats on DD1 11+.

TheArtisticSlattern Wed 10-Oct-12 14:28:48

Hi all, I have been out all morning so no housework done and I now feel too tired.

I have an ongoing list (on paper) that never ends cause there is always something new to add to the list.

On the up side, I received my cheque today for my first painting I sold. grin

Seem to be struggling to find the time or energy to do another one right now.
I suppose I have lots going on though! My dd is still potty training - we started in August 2011. she is only just starting to "get it". She has had major anxiety about the whole thing so it has been pretty hard work!

I have 2 DC a 9 yr old DS and an almost 4 year old DD.

TheArtisticSlattern Wed 10-Oct-12 14:33:35

Jerry I am also new to the thread but don't manage to get on here often. smile

I stay at home at the moment to look after DD (not in school yet). I am trying to do painting as a way of earning a little pocket money and it is a hobby.

TheArtisticSlattern Wed 10-Oct-12 14:36:00

Gummi hope you feel better soon.

JKSLtd Wed 10-Oct-12 21:24:51

I am busy I guess. I always feel if I could just grab hold of each day better I could get so much more done ... Hmmm

Did dentist ouch mouth/jaw still sore and new filling feels weird. And I know I have the same experience for the other side next Wednesday joy.

Tomorrow
Nothing specific just try and get on top of piles of crap around the house...

Alibabaandthe40nappies Wed 10-Oct-12 22:04:02

Hi everyone. No time to even make a list atm!

Jerry - I've got two DSs, they are 4 and 18 months. The 4 year old has just started school. I'm a SAHM, DH works and I do everything else - hence the need for lists!

Tomorrow
Morning routine and school run
Home
- dishwasher
- laundry
- beds etc
Toddler group
Lunch
Pick up DS1
Karate
Boys tea
Baths and bed

Minimammoth Thu 11-Oct-12 08:28:11

Morning everyone. I have 3 dc all grown up now. And 3 gdc. GS 6, GD1 coming up 3, GD2 1.5. I am also HMHBs mum.
I work from home largely. That's why it's always a mess and thus the need for lists.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Thu 11-Oct-12 09:47:54

Morning

Status report - 2DC's here DD is nearly3 and DS is 6. Just started working full time after working 4 days a week for about a year. And this is why I am tired. DD took AGES to get dressed this morning 'those trousers are too cold' etc. DH works too but is a teacher so works annoyingly less hours than me.

JKS - hope your gob is ok grin

Slatternismymiddlename Thu 11-Oct-12 10:31:39

Ok, I'm in the zone, sort of. To cheer myself up I'm going to list what I have done rather than still to do.

DS to school
Breakfast stuff put away
All random crockery loaded into dishwasher
2 loads of washing done and in tumble
1 load in washing machine at the moment and 2 more lined up to go in
Passports located (going away for a few days)
All clean underwear sorted and put away in right place

Now having a cup of tea

This afternoon I have to take the cats to the cattery then it will be tea time and the rest of the day is lost which is why I have to be productive this morning.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Thu 11-Oct-12 11:43:40

Sounds like you are doing well Slattern.

JKSLtd Thu 11-Oct-12 11:48:39

Oh I have a Dh too! Missed him out. He works away a lot which I mostly don't mind as I like me routines & evenings/bed to myself <anti-social>

My mouth is feeling better but still a bit sore. Tis weird to be able to eat on that tooth though.

SIMMN (I think?) - I often feel that the day disappears come Teatime too. Mornings are my best only time to get things done, esp as dd naps over lunch and then we never have time to do anything before sch runs.

Apols for awful typing am on phone still - waiting for a new modem to arrive then fingers crossed the wifi will work again.

Have
Had a bath
bleached loos
Fffed about

Next
Sew some name tapes on
Do more of pumpkin pompom
Lunch

Slatternismymiddlename Thu 11-Oct-12 11:55:59

I forgot to say - I have 2 young children and a DH who is both very messy and an excellent blitz cleaner, he doesn't work away all the time but he is away sometimes. I also work part time.

Half mum - I would hate to have to go to full time after being part time. I can't get things done as it is! I don't doubt you are shattered.

GummiberryJuice Thu 11-Oct-12 12:05:22

Right am back starting to feel abit better

I have 2 dc dd aged 6 and ds aged 4 (5 in Dec). DD is in year 2, ds has just started reception but is thankfully on full days now. I've been a single mum for 3 years now, which means I've posted on this thread for at least 3.5 or 4 years shock Fellow slatterns have been lovely and supported me through all kinds of stuff <ahhhhhh>.

I work 27 hours a week in a preschool, 8.30-12 Mon Tue and Fri and 8.30-4 Wed and Thurs. I also have to do my learning diaries at home which usually takes an hour or two a week if I keep on top of it. I'm just starting my nvq3 in childcare too. I'm off sick today (and yesterday) though as was vomitous on Tue night and have to obey the 48hr rule. Was going to try to get up to date on learning diaries but appear not to have done so yet... (did one yesterday so only 7 children to go)

My dc go to breakfast club daily and a childminder after school on the two afternoons I work. This is far far easier than last term when I tried to rely on exh to help out. And as I live just over the road from school (and I want to get my money's worth from breakfast club) also means I can just get the dc washed and dressed in the morning, whizz them over to breakfast club and then come back and spend 15 mins sorting the house out before leaving for work.

I have a lovely new boyfriend who I also have to fit in a couple of times a week it's a real hardship

JerryLeadbetter Thu 11-Oct-12 13:03:08

Oh, and congrats Artistic on selling your painting, i'm very jealous that you're a paid artist! envy What was your painting of?

Slatternismymiddlename Thu 11-Oct-12 13:10:00

Gummi -glad you are feeling a bit better.

Freakoid - could I have an ounce of your organisation please?

Since my earlier post I have

Picked ds from school (got soaked)
Changed the dcs' bed linen
2 loads in tumble
1 load in washing machine and 1 waiting
45 mins in my bedroom removing dcs' toys (seriously, how do they get there?) and hanging up random clothes

Now having lunch then off to the cattery.

Jerry -come hither and tell me more about your fish pie............

FreakoidOrganisoid Thu 11-Oct-12 13:26:13

Slattern I'm not feeling very organised at the moment. Wet weather means my house is constantly draped in damp washing, I'm behind on my work due to laziness, my personal paperwork is stuffed in a box file rather than properly sorted and filed and the dust is mounting grin

DD has just been sent home ill <sigh>

TheArtisticSlattern Thu 11-Oct-12 14:35:24

Thanks Jerry smile. I'm not employed by anyone as an artist but joined a local art society this year and they hold exhibitions where you can display and sell your work. They take a certain amount of the money so I don't make a lot of money. It's a good way to start off trying to sell art work though.
My painting was of 2 cats.
It is more of a hobby than a way of making money for me at the mo. I might start to take it more seriously when DD starts full time school as she only does mornings at nursery at the mo and I find it hard to fit everything in.

I must go and sort my kitchen in a mo

betterwhenthesunshines Thu 11-Oct-12 14:42:42

Can I join?

I've just made a phone call that has been on my ToDo list since the end of August - it took 2 minutes grin Why, oh why do I do this?!

Done today:
2 loads of washing
Changed sheets
Walked dog
Exercise class
Booked a half term family activity

To Do but keep putting off:
Tax return
various DIY jobs; painting, filling giant hole in the wall where the towel hook fell out and took half the wall with it
Sort out DDs school books from the end of last year

The answer should be just to write a list and stick to it, but somehow it's the same things that get left for months to the end.

TheArtisticSlattern Thu 11-Oct-12 14:46:34

I am an expert at procrastinating! but I blame tiredness and lack of sleep most days. wink

betterwhenthesunshines Thu 11-Oct-12 14:46:57

Artistic congrats on selling your painting. Maybe we should make this into a kick-up-the butt GO AND DO SOME ART thread too! I've sold a few paintings and should do more and approach galleries etc It's also something I should enjoy right? Yet somehow I feel guilty doing it and nervous about starting again.

JKSLtd Thu 11-Oct-12 20:21:35

Did my 3 things from earlier, but not much else.
Though I did spend some time with just ds1 as dh was here for the other 2 after school which was long overdue smile

Tomorrow:

Something else?

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Thu 11-Oct-12 20:59:29

Butter- in self help organisation type books they say to do the most annoying jobs first and then you will be really chuffed that they are out of the way or something like that.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Fri 12-Oct-12 16:46:22

JKS sounds like technology is letting you down.

Hi Gummi

I have made the buns. Some will be choc butterfly buns and some just fariy cakes with icing and hundeds and thousands/sweets on top. So do I freeze them now or eat them just put them in air tight container and ice them mon for party tues.

If I freeze them now I would have to take them out on Monday morning to ice them that evening.

SOrry not done the freezing buns/cake bit before so a bit daunted. And I when we usually have fairy cakes they last around 5 days and still taste nice. confused

GummiberryJuice Fri 12-Oct-12 16:49:17

Freeze now and take out on Monday, although tecnically they should be fine in airtight container, my wee baker neighbour would actually ice and freeze all her buns and tray bakes, and they are all yummy

We are having an energy assessment thingy on the house tomorrow. So madness is taking over, involving frantic searches for receipts for doors and windows, checking levels of loft insulation , clearing loft space. Dh wandering around looking like Darth Vader in his face mask. Did Darth ever clear his loft? This involves close encounters with dead sparrows and mouse shit, and all other fascinating crap that you decide must be kept for posterity and shoved in the loft space. Why why? Lesson. Just dump it. Honestly.
See you later if I survive the glass fibre, dust, collection of Elephants, esoteric books, old suitcases, oh and computer packing, which obviously has to be saved for ever.

Good morning All.

I had a lovely but very tiring weekend away with my family. Good news is that as we were not in the house we couldn't mess it up, bad news is that I haven't yet unpacked or done the washing and the ironing mountain is in danger of showing up on Google Earth.

This is the part of the week that I work and so I will not stress about it all until the end of the week. I will post my (never ending) list then.

Now I better go and tackle my work (never ending) list.

Exactly hmhb - things are so finely balanced!

Very sad day here - funeral for 13 yr old from ds2's sch sad
No reason for his death, just didn't wake up.
It was awful, and most of us were in tears before it even started anyway.
Stupid me forgot tissues! Luckily lady next to me had tonnes.

Also had left dd napping with a friend only for her not to sleep as workmen were drilling up the pavement outside, grr.
She managed an hour on my friends lap envy and seems to be holding on ok so far.

Off out with dh later meant to be cinema but not sure there's anything we want to see on.....

Slatternismymiddlename Thu 18-Oct-12 18:26:28

JKS - that's awful, my sympathies and thoughts to the family.

No housework done today. Spent the entire morning at the vets because one of my cats is poorly sad. She is 13 but it's the first time she has been unwell. I wish I could do more for her.

Dinner in oven, half a bottle of wine had whilst cooking blush. Will try and do something pro active when kids are in bed.

Work is slow here today. But mega sort out happening. One job seems to create ten more. Well back to it.

JKSLtd Sun 21-Oct-12 16:30:29

785 Gummi? Wow. Dread to think how many I need to sort.

V hungover here blush

Slatternismymiddlename Sun 21-Oct-12 16:54:58

Well didn't tidy but did go on a cooking spree. Tonight's dinner prepared, curried carrot soup made, leek and potato soup made, massive pot of chillie made for Halloween night.

Ironing pile to be tackled next.

Gummi - are you printing off all the photos? If so, does it not cost a fortune?

Mini - I like the sound of a mega sort out. More details please.

GummiberryJuice Sun 21-Oct-12 18:41:16

Ordered them from Tesco £ 42 delivered, they are really quick normally I have between 200 & 300 and its around 17 to 20, I have never checked to see if anywhere else is cheaper as first time I had free delivery and get clubcard points

Minimammoth Sun 21-Oct-12 20:19:50

Mini's mega sort out:
Loft full of 'collections ' of stuff that never made it out of boxes in move 15 years ago. Books that may be worth something. Flog, or eBay
Nice bits, offer to family as keep sakes, otherwise get rid.
Course notes from way back, interesting, but way out of date. Probably bin.
archive stuff from business, got to keep.
Result - down to 3 boxes.
To do: sort out Christmas decs.
Cupboards : jumpers, hatshmm , clothes not worn for aaages. Chuck out anything that does not fit, not been worn for years. Save some for DGCs dressing up box ( which I am getting together)
Spare duvets keep, extra odd curtains, throws,: to charity shop.

Beloved boiled wool coat, been eaten by mothsshock this could also be a yawn. B*** moths. I have cut up the un eaten panels and will cover chair seats with the remaining fabric.

Polish halo.

Minimammoth Sun 21-Oct-12 22:21:15

Mini's mega sort out part 2.
Some of the 'save' things can go in my shed.
< cuts to shed> squeezes in past piles of drawings, art materials, BBQ, garden chair, dolls house, spare cushions, high chair, stairgate.
Need to make space to put 'to save' items.
This was supposed to be a 'studio' shed.

Minimammoth Mon 22-Oct-12 10:36:17

I have obviously frightened everybody away. Well you did ask.grin

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Mon 22-Oct-12 15:13:06

JKSLtd Mon 22-Oct-12 20:28:35

Mini - you are doing tremendously! And I felt virtuous for moving the sofas & discovering all sorts of hidden/lost toys.
DS1 happy as we found his long-lost Beyblade smile

Some progress with DS2 & baths - at least we managed to wash his hair with shampoo yesterday. Still nowhere near getting in the actual bath, but he seems happy with his builders tray for now. weirdo

Tomorrow hoping to take DS1 to the cinema if the nanny will stay with DD. Transylvanian Hotel anyone?!

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Tue 23-Oct-12 09:47:46

JKS - Poor DS2. Our DC's do like a bath outside in a garden trug though.

Keep going mini! You can feel the lack of clutter, it makes you feel good.

Slatterns I think we should add a treat for the week for us on our list e.g. mine is have a haircut.

Am afraid that the house is in that state of complete and utter chaos that happens before Mary Poppins arrives. No room is unaffected. My treat escape plan is going to the osteopath. hmm

Slatternismymiddlename Tue 23-Oct-12 11:14:23

Morning. Sorry for radio silence. I woke up on Monday morning and couldn't get out of bed, I have pulled something in my back. Bad news is I can't get into work or get any housework done, good news I am too drugged up on painkillers and anti inflammatories to care.

I had agreed (before my back went) to have kids round for a Halloween party on Saturday. I think it will have to be dim lighting all around!

In the meantime I will sit in my little head fuzz and dream about the mega declutter/tidy that I will one day complete.

FreakoidOrganisoid Tue 23-Oct-12 13:43:19

Help meeeeeeeeee! I still have two learning diaries to do and the parents are coming in on thursday morning blush I know I just need to get on and do it and they arent too bad once I'm actually doing it. but apparently baking cakes, sorting ds' birthday (not til december), buying xmas presents etc is more important hmm I only have this afternoon to do it now really as work a full day on weds and the evenings are generally a write off work wise. But despite knowing that even the ironing is looking more appealing.

Even bf called me the procrastination queen at the weekend. Oh dear he has seen my true colours grin

cikecaka Tue 23-Oct-12 13:48:16

Cikecaka - I looked at some of my old threads the other day and there on the one where I was in labour in the middle of the night were some posts from you. Really great to look back on it. I was fretting at the time (as you do when you are in labour) that the kids weren't going to be ok but they are...

Freakoid - I hope you have done those reports. Post later to let us know if they've been done or we'll NAG you!

Slattern - hope the pain killers are helping. You could write a lovely psychadelic list with colours and wotnot.

Hello. Could somebody tell me how to copy and paste on the iPad. I don't want to retype my list each time.

I am back into land of living - sort of. I have a limp from the back pain that has gone into my leg and reduced mobility, but at least I can now move. I better start tackling the house.

Put various drying clothes that are spread out around house in ironing pile
Fill up dishwasher
Sort dirty washing into pile
Count PTA money to lodge in bank tomorrow
Vacuum and dust lounge
Vacuum and dust dining room
Tidy up kitchen table
Dig out Halloween decorations

JKS as a fellow (part time) insomniac I sympathise.

Minimammoth Thu 25-Oct-12 18:07:08

Slatternis hold your finger on the words and a little notice will come up you can then select, copy or paste. Hold your finger where you want it to be, tap paste.
Coo hark at me techno or whatgrin
Ongoing madness here. Scaffolding not quite up, Pv panels being fixed tomorrow if the scaffolders get it done in time. Inspector on Monday. List for tomorrow.
Keep calm
Make tea for millions of workmen
Try to find a corner of house that might be peaceful.
See you soon

FreakoidOrganisoid Thu 25-Oct-12 18:10:26

CC - does that mean someone else comes into your house to teach her? Could be interesting, or a pain, not sure really. And 8 hours a week? What about the rest of the time, do you have to teach her?

I've always liked the idea of HE, but when it comes down to it, it's just not me. Hats off to those that do it (well those that do it well anyway).
I am into getting resources for DS2 particularly, got a juicy new catalogue of educational stuff to drool over, all far too ££ really but gives me ideas for stuff to try and make at home or sources more cheaply.

JKS, she goes into the school completion office 2 mornings a week as well. she does art therapy on a monday. These are big steps for her as she doesnt leave the house. she will have the 8 hrs at home, I presume the tutor will set her homework as well! Anything is better than nothing smile

JKSLtd Fri 26-Oct-12 19:42:27

That's good CC - at least she has some stuff that's out of the house to keep her going with that, however hard. As for, homework - no escape from the blasted stuff is there?!

Have had a bit of a strop this evening, feeling under-appreciated. Not helped by DD throwing her cup at my head whilst cleaning up her mess, then DS2 throwing a wobbly at teatime and refusing to eat anything. & DS1 generally not giving me a minute's peace whilst trying to pack & organise things for them for the trip away.
Not sure why i bother sometimes.
Anyway, DH out, having some freezer surprise for tea + red wine & cheesy film so bound to cheer up soon grin

Had mini melt down this eve, been on the go all day, pots all over kitchen, crumbs and bits all over floor, dc room a mess, ds been alternately ignoring me and answering back all day and just totally felt like i couldn't cope. Bf arrived in the middle of it cos he wanted me to do some Halloween make up on him for a party tonight and i completely bit his head off. Especially when he looked at my kitchen and joked that he thought id been busy all day. I knew he was joking but wasn't in the mood for it, especially as he was giving me yet one more task to do by asking me to do his makeup.

I do sometimes wonder if it really is as never ending as it feels or if it's just me making heavy weather of it.

And where the hell have i gone wrong with ds?? He's such hard work...whining, tantrums, not listening, arguing back...he's nearly 5 ffs not a toddler.

Still, all ok and order has been restored to my house. I'm sitting down at last and contemplating wine.

FreakoidOrganisoid Sat 27-Oct-12 20:45:03

(and i have completed everything on my list PLUS the bulk of the ironing so should be happy really)

FreakoidOrganisoid Sat 27-Oct-12 20:46:00

Oh. Ironing was on the list. Ignore that then grin

Slatternismymiddlename Sun 28-Oct-12 10:45:44

Freakoid - major hug from me, I completely understand where you are coming from. It's the never endingness of it all. Just as I think Im getting somewhere and take my eye off the ball for a day chaos takes over again. I'm fed up being the only one to care. hope you enjoyed your well earned glass of wine.

My list today

Tidy up from hallowe'en party last night
Hand wash good wine glasses
Freeze left over food into portions
Dishwasher loaded and on
Count PTA money (still haven't done this!)
Iron, iron, iron

my last post shamed me into finishing some of the tasks I started.

Minimammoth Mon 29-Oct-12 07:57:49

Blimey, Slattern. You are making me feel guilty re the ironing. I do as little ironing as possible. Once a month max. ( no DCs here though) DH does his own.

House still blitzed from Pv installation. It's going to be awhile before I can find a home for some stuff. May have to buy a wardrobe. might try auction.

FreakoidOrganisoid Mon 29-Oct-12 08:18:29

Slattern i used to be like that but this thread helped me to complete one task before starting another. Tick it off then move onto the other. It's much more satisfying.

Mini your list scares me! I'm rubbish at diy and garden stuff so just ignore it in the hope it will go away blush

Minimammoth Mon 29-Oct-12 12:48:22

I am not that good Freaki. Painting is ok, I have always done decorating. I used a power tool for the first time yesterday and put in 2 screws.

Slatternismymiddlename Mon 29-Oct-12 13:40:09

Minimammoth - I could iron every day (which I don't which is why I have a permanent ironing mountain). I have tried to cut down on it and still find it impossible. When I do iron I prefer to have a decent go at it for a couple of hours at a time, House repeats on Sky+ being my current ironing programme of choice. But when I have a busy week that doesn't allow for such a chunk of time I can't be bothered getting started for just 20 mins here or there.

Freakoid - your list truly frightens me as it sounds very DIYish, although I am intrigued by chocolate courgette cake.........

Hello Lollipop, Cikecaka and Gummi. Sorry if I have left anyone out.

Tonights list

Count PTA money
Iron
Find cheque book because the bank are going to charge me £10 to issue a new one!!

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Tue 30-Oct-12 12:58:53

Mine is more of a long term type list to remind me that stuff needs doing.

cikecaka Tue 30-Oct-12 18:25:54

Evening all, DD2 took over my kitchen, making salt dough ornaments and painting them so now need to resurrect my kitchen hmm

Clean counters
Clean Kitchen Table
Washing
Sweep Floor
Wash Floor

Slatternismymiddlename Thu 01-Nov-12 10:36:01

Morning all. I am please to say I have finally counted and lodged the PTA money, it was stressing me out having it in the house.

DH tackled the ironing mountain and reduced it a bit.

Normal household stuff to be tackled today.

Hope you are all well and ticking something of those lists smile

FreakoidOrganisoid Thu 01-Nov-12 10:55:17

Hello everyone.
I've failed on half term industriousness as have been feeling poorly. I have been using my tumble dryer though grin

My nanny died on Tue :-(

Today i need to
Rearrange vet appointment -done
Go to supermarket
Hoover edges downstairs ( im very good at Hoovering the middle of the room regularly not so good at going round the edges with the hosey bit)
Dust

That will do. I'm still not 100%

cikecaka Thu 01-Nov-12 17:48:48

So sorry about your nanny Freak. {{{{{hugs}}}}

My house is being over run with teenagers!!! Not complaining too much as its nice to know where DS and DD2 are so it saves on worrying about them. But I am getting nothing done. sad

Need to
Unload dishwasher and reload it

Slatternismymiddlename Fri 02-Nov-12 11:58:38

Morning. Hugs to Freakoid.

Today I have

Loaded dishwasher
Tumble on
Washing machine on 3rd load
DD's bed made - and then unmade by her
Tent for DS erected -which now means I cant tidy up the rest of his room
My bed stripped
My bedroom dusted
DD's room dusted

Have stuff with the kids for the rest of the day so nothing ese will get done.

JKSLtd Fri 02-Nov-12 14:50:17

Hi everyone, hugs Freak.

Had good trip to parents in Devon, managed the drive back with the DC on my own fine too <impressed with self>

Mother drives me nuts though, can't help but compare to MIL who is fab. I know, weird eh?

Looking forward to the boys going back to school now so I can get on top of things at home <eyes chaos>
Though DH is away on a work trip from Mon to the following Mon, I think. Not sure when he'll get home actually. Think the weekend is going to be the killer, no structure, etc. Oh and 2 football sessions at the same time in different places hmm

Rest of today:
- finish ironing
- put away loads of clean clothes
- more washing on
- get DD up before too long (just checked and she's fast asleep)
- clear away 'art' work in kitchen
- DH home at some point, maybe early
- DC tea & tidy kitchen
- DC bath (of sorts) & bed
- dinner, tv (v. behind on Sky+) & bed

Ongoing:
- family tree (scanning in old certs & photos & email contact); get moving on this, and see if my Mum wants stuff looked up; Told Mum to email me questions
- buy frames to hang on the wall & hang up as many photos as poss; need some sizes; get sizes into phone for TKMaxx trip
- lose weight! (From: 66kg; Target: 54kg); Scales said 55.1; stuck atm
- sort wills; nudge DH to see what he wants to do
- clear out of the top of my desk
- kids photos albums; upload onto Snapfish; order printouts; put in albums. Step 1; sort all photos on iPhoto Doing
- try and sell unwanted light? eBay + other stuff?
- order new raincover for buggy
- start cycling with DD to playgroups after half-term

Christmas:
- wrap DC presents bought so far (pretty near finished shopping I think, just a few stocking fillers maybe)
- list what food I've already bought (choc tin, biscuit tin, cracker box...)
- find out if younger brother might be coming?
- wait to see if parents book cruise or come to us hmm
- early Christmas with PIL prep
- get advent calendars

Slatternismymiddlename Sun 04-Nov-12 09:46:41

Blimey JKS, you are sorted for christmas! I thought I was doing okay having bought a few things but you have got yours wrapped.

For me ths week is just about surviving as opposed to getting anything done. DH is away with work and my parents (my back up) are away too. This is also the week I'm changing my work hours for the first time in fve years and my other work partner is drastically reducing her hours (thus dramatically increasing my work load).

Moan over. Today I have a kids party so if I could just make a pasta sauce with the veg in the fridge and get bags ready for tomorrow I'll be happy.

JKSLtd Sun 04-Nov-12 14:30:00

I haven't wrapped anything, yet. Have the 3 large rolls for the 3 DC and could wrap whenever I get a free minute but it hasn't happened over half-term. On the list to do asap though so they can't discover everything and spoil the surprise.

Dh is also away with work this week, until Mon. Hoping my brother can come for the weekend, esp Sat am football to help out.
DS2 has tomorrow off school so only have to organise DS1. Done some nametapes & printer last photo for the class toy's diary.

Still need to:
- write diary entry & stick photo in
- pack DS1's bag with new sports kit & (sodding) class toy
- do some more reading if poss as we've slacked off a bit oops

- DH lighting fire (hooray!)
- roast x 5 & tidy up
- DC bath & bed
- tv & bed (early night needed)

Ongoing:
- family tree (scanning in old certs & photos & email contact); Dug out files to start again
- buy frames to hang on the wall & hang up as many photos as poss; need some sizes; get sizes into phone for TKMaxx trip
- lose weight! (From: 66kg; Target: 54kg); Scales said 55.1; stuck atm
- sort wills; nudge DH to see what he wants to do

hey HMHB smile

DS2 had a seizure on Sun afternoon sad He didn't need to go to hosp and just slept for 15hours straight afterwards. We could see it coming weirdly, he was very off all day.
He's gone to school today though as back to his usual self. Yesterday he was horrid, ending up with biting my thumb & drawing blood at bedtime - all because he wanted to keep the same Thomas pj top on that he'd had on all day & the night before.
This morning he saw his school uniform and took off the pj's & demanded 'clean clothes please' hmm

JKS - hope your son is ok, I can't even imagine how traumatic it was for everyone.

My DH came home early from working away which means there is more of a hope of getting things done. I'm definitely running under power, have self diagnosed a kidney infection (I'm not a doctor but don't let that minor point get in the way of my diagnosis).

I have looked at the Callander and realised that I don't have a single free weekend between now and Christmas! Panick is creeping in at the edges!!!

GummiberryJuice Tue 06-Nov-12 18:51:56

Jks hope you are alright, how long is it from his last attack

I have been very slatternly when it comes to lists think I might sit down and type a more long term one, things I want done before Xmas or something to that effect

JKSLtd Tue 06-Nov-12 20:01:25

Gummi - you may have noticed I rather like the list-writing bit grin

DS2 is ok thanks, he used to have a very sever form of epilepsy called Infantile Spasms and had hundreds of szs a day. In fact, according to his EEG he was constantly in a seizure-state.
He had a tumour removed from his brain (non-cancerous) 3 Christmases ago (23rd Dec 2009) and was sz-free until Feb this year when he had one. We hoped it was a one-off, maybe even a febrile convulsion, we'll never know. But all the build-up to Sundays one implies epilepsy again. But it won't be as devastating developmentally as it was before but still, not ideal.

Hello all.

Mad busy week for me at work so house has definitely suffered. DD has a vomiting bug and I don't think I have done so much washing in my life. I also managed to fit in some of the kids' present shopping, this is the first year I have embraced Internet shopping.

JKS hope your feeling better soon.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Mon 12-Nov-12 16:30:05

Hi Slattern. vomiting bug is cruel. You need loads of people to help out
1) person who cleans up sick
2) person who washes clothes
3) person who tends to ill people
4) person being ill

Am glum. Dentist says nothing wrong with tooth but nerve inflamed. Anti inflamatories is the answer, am allergic to aspirin ibuprofen. Have to see if it will settle on its own, or nerve out procedure. sadsad clove oil is good though, but not for long.

JKS - I know but it is scary.

Mini - no ice cream with hot chocolate sauce for you! Will be home early today if you want to ring.

ATourchOfInsanity Tue 13-Nov-12 14:27:30

Hello! Didn't want to start a whole new thread and thought this might be a handy place to barge in and ask...

What does everyone here do with the padded wrapping stuff you get when you have a parcel delivered? I have filled practically a bin bag full of giant plastic padding, large bubble type things, but sadly not pop-able in quite the same way.

Feel unaccountably guilty sending a load of plastic and air to the tip, let alone the fact it has taken up a bin bag space in the bin where there is only space for 2 bin bags!

Just wondering what everyone else does - anyone found another use for them?

JKSLtd Tue 13-Nov-12 14:47:03

We can recycle that kind of plastic so i pop/cut all the bubbles/air pockets, squish it all down and put in the recycling.
Otherwise i would bag it up & freecycle smile

Ullena Tue 13-Nov-12 15:34:53

Hello, I think I belong on this thread grin as I am prone to lists! I just finished the floors, DH has been scrubbing the yard and front steps.

Still to do today:
Laundry (about 3 loads blush)
Dishes
Top up the fish tank
Paint the kitchen

Tomorrow:
Paint the living room
Usual household stuff

Next day:
Sort through whatever has piled up in the loft; really need to get to the charity shops, etc!
Get on with the back garden...any advice on what can be done with a bog?

ATourchOfInsanity Tue 13-Nov-12 15:44:58

I wish we had a better recycling option - I have to carry the glass to the local bank with the buggy which is a bit clanky!

Oooh is this a thread where we get to go over all of the housework? I am feeling a bit rushed as a friend has decided to pop around and kindly offered me a lift to nursery to pick up DD - sadly means I miss the last 1.5hrs of time I had to clean etc. I put DD into nursery 2 days a week so I can clean and relax. Never get to the latter though!

So far today I have:
Dropped DD off at nursery - 40min walk each way
Done Christmas shopping - nothing more to buy smile
Unpacked shopping and bagged it into people piles and hidden in cupboard
Sorted two large bowls of junk
Gone through 4 cupboards and ruthlessly chucked out tupperware with no lids/bottles with no lids etc
Mopped floors
Tidied DD's room
Cleaned surfaces
Done 2 washes
Put away laundry
Filled dishwasher and put on
Sorted craft box and added to it
Emptied both recycling and normal bin
Crushed 8 boxes and piled together for recycling

No time for hoovering, cleaning fridge and sorting paperwork now, but will have to wait for Thurs when DD is in nursery next.

Minimammoth Tue 13-Nov-12 15:50:42

Well done Touch of insanity, that's a good list of 'done' stuff. Ullena perhaps you have to declare garden officially a bog and find some suitable bog plants.

FawkesoidOrganisoid Tue 13-Nov-12 18:48:48

Am so behind at the moment. Need to get back into regular posting and listing proper.

This eve
Get dc to take all bricks back upstairs and put away
Bath and bed dc
Wash up
Make lunch for tomorrow
General tidy round

Haven't done ds' reading tonight but he is too tired.

Slatternismymiddlename Tue 13-Nov-12 19:07:44

Hi everyone, I'm too tired to list what needs to be done (also too depressing) so will instead list what has been done in last few days (much more motivational).

A lot of paperwork sorted (last years christmas present receipts anyone?)
Big pot of pasta sauce made
All bought presents hidden from investigative eyes
Ds Christmas cards started (9 done, only 25 more to go)
Kids presents mostly bought (the joy of discovering online shopping)
Finally got DH to agree not to go overboard with presents this year (never worked before)
Started to convert spare/junk room back into habitable room for visitor over Christmas
Made a start on decorations for DD's party in December (don't want to let her party be lost amongst Christmas stuff)

Not done but really really needs done
Take down Halloween decorations blush
Ironing

RuleBritannia Tue 13-Nov-12 19:10:30

I've left my list of things to do downstairs.

Coughing lots, still. really red up of it now. DH being 'helpful' hmm have already had words...

Massive diary & paperwork session done, phew!

JKS congratulations on the weight loss - especially at this time of year (I'm eating carbs like the world is about to end). My diary is also ridiculous from this point on. My last big celebration that i'm responsible for is the 23rd dec so come Christmas day I will officially be on a break.

Today I achieved
Dyed hair (long overdue)
3 loads of washing done
Tumble on once
Ds wrote 5 more Christmas cards
Collected a few toys to give to the church fair from DS's room

Minimammoth Wed 14-Nov-12 16:36:39

I am in awe of all this Christmas prep going on. I am not going to panic, no, no panicking here.

Gather weekend stuff.
DH to hospital tomorrow.

ATourchOfInsanity Thu 15-Nov-12 12:38:26

Hi again everyone. Yes 40min walk to nursery is a killer and mostly hills. Still it's only 2 days a week so saves £ on gym membership that I would never use

Today we had a new Aldi open. It is great but dangerous. I spent £63 (£5 off voucher) and then had to carry two of their giant bags 20 mins home - it is on the way to nursery unfortunately so temptation will no doubt prevail twice a week.

So, today:

Walked to nursery and back with stupidly heavy bags of booze, meat and biscuits
Met 'handy man' who is scraping and re painting laundry room and putting up a radiator cover
Put away all shopping
Put away all laundry
Put away photos from Easter blush into albums
Bagged up huge amount of baby stuff for baby shower on Sunday
Sent Amazon wishlist for DD to friend
Cleaned shower

To do:
Sort 5 piles of paperwork on kitchen table
Sew string/ribbon into mittens and decide if they are Xmas pressies or ours <evil laugh>
Write letter to Court with further evidence for CSA tribunal whilst ignoring twat texts from exp
Hoover
Pay handyman online
Clean fridge
Sweep porch (can never be arsed with this one and it rolls over weekly/monthly)

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Thu 15-Nov-12 16:51:12

Afternoon - I would have loved a walk today but am at work boo!

Rejoining. I have lots to do and little to no motivation to do it. I still have to:

Wash up (after I make dinner, that is)
Fold the clean washing
Mop the kitchen, hall, living room and bathroom floors.
Scrub the bathroom until it's shiny again.
Tidy up the play room.
Feed the dog.
Sew the seam of DD's pyjamas back together.

I also need to have a bath and sort myself out plus sort out the clothes littering the floor in my bedroom and sweep the garden. Let's not go intp the amount of clothes that need sorting and organising.

ellargh Thu 15-Nov-12 17:00:38

I also need to wrap DD2's birthday presents which are currently in the shed, start buying Christmas presents little by little and week by week (DC's just need stocking fillers) & hoping DP doesn't spoil mine and the DD's festive fun with his 'pointless Christmas' speech and Grinch-like manner.

JKSLtd Thu 15-Nov-12 18:05:37

Eurgh, feeling rough again, and lots of coughing. And now i think my lungs are making a funny noise if i breathe deeply hmm

Thurs:

Hello, can I join in or am I too late? I'm a SAHM to two DS's, one of whom is sleep averse. I'm flipping awful at keeping up with housework and I do it in a burst and then it gets left, I need inspiration and motivation and a kick up the bum to sort it once and for all.

My to do list for Friday:

Shopping for misc food and 4 birthday cards
Clean bathroom
Clean kitchen sides
Sweep kitchen floor
Strip my bed, wash and remake
Wash clothes in machine
Put clean clothes away
Hoover all floors

I really should declutter but the floors need to be rid of the crud

Minimammoth Fri 16-Nov-12 06:43:20

Xmas general organisation

Slatternismymiddlename Fri 16-Nov-12 13:44:23

Good afternoon old and new self confessed slatterns.

Hope your cough is better JKS. Mini, how is DH? Half mum, is this bed swap weekend - if so good luck. I can't begin to imagine the logistics.

I managed to collect a bin liner's worth of toys for the church fair. It's only a drop in the ocean of decluttering but small steps. During the clear out I managed to sort a lot of them out and reunite bits with other bits.

This morning I vacuumed all the bedrooms and dusted the kids rooms.

Rest of today
Dust our room
Make dinner
Commence ironing marathon

JKSLtd Fri 16-Nov-12 19:25:19

Not feeling much better at all boo. Have had a total of 3 hours in bed during the day today and just feeling washed out. Maybe this is flu? Should've had my flu jab!

So, done nothing of substance today, put the wm & dw on and that's it.

FawkesoidOrganisoid Sat 17-Nov-12 17:03:48

Bf brought his cat over last night (son of my cat) as we are trying to keep them used to each other to avoid problems if we live together in future.

MY day today began with cleaning and bleaching the bath where it had pooed in there. Nice.

Been on first aid course all day today. Lungs and wrists hurt from resuscitation!

Quite feel like having a bath but will i feel like i am bathing in cat shit after this morning??

FawkesoidOrganisoid Sat 17-Nov-12 17:05:35

Sorry you are poorly jks :-(
Also what is the news on ds2? I saw further back he had had another seizure but haven't read properly since then

JKSLtd Sat 17-Nov-12 19:58:00

Thanks Fawkes, he's alright. No signs of any more seizures, waiting for various docs to decide if they want to do anything.

Eventually saw a doc myself this morning, he gave me some antibiotics. Not 100% sure if i need them but in this case i'm happier to take them anyway. Really have felt wiped out all day, and struggled to do the minimum. Not sure DH is entirely on board with how low my energy levels are either hmm but he has helped with stuff so i shouldn't complain.

FeistyLass Sun 18-Nov-12 12:56:54

Ooh, can I join? (waves from behind bombsite that is the sitting room). This is my first MN post although I have lurked for years. I've tried lists and reminders on my phone to try to keep on top of housework but nothing seems to help so maybe public humiliation will?!
My list for today:
1) move Christmas presents upstairs to dressing room (IN PROGRESS)
2) move travel cot upstairs to dressing room (for hiding christmas presents)
3) pack large toys into toyboxes and move upstairs
4) 3 washings (2 DONE)
5) measure ds' wardrobe, drawers and toybox to see if can re-arrange before Christmas
6) build extra toybox
7) put away clean washing
8) hoover grin (I hate hoovering. I don't know why. I just do. If this list makes me hoover that will be a massive achievement)
9) file papers from kitchen

If I press send do I really need to do all this . . .ok, I'm off!

JKSLtd Sun 18-Nov-12 16:08:19

Welcome Feisty smile
One of our original rules used to be you weren't allowed to finish your list grin
Assuming you have no keen-eyed DC looking at the presents today?

I'm hoping to get on with wrapping next week as there are some in boxes in the study that have been there ages now. It's tempting fate.

DH still annoying me, loves to lock himself away in the kitchen batch cooking lasagne, which sounds fine except it means not helping with DC and....the DC don't even like lasagne! ho hum.

I do so as much housework as possible before I leave for work at 8am (early riser rather than organised). This includes laundry, cleaning floors (all stripped wood downstairs), bathrooms, and that occasional quaint pleasure, dusting. The kitchen gets done as I go along. I make packed lunches in the evenings (left-overs or soup). At presenr the to do list for evenings and weekends includes making items for Christmas - cards, presents etc. I do not have DC at home now and it's all very different from when my children were young.

Slatternismymiddlename Sat 24-Nov-12 09:54:03

JKS - there is a rule in our house, if you have a cat on your lap you are not allowed to get up. This works best for me because I got my cats before I met DH and therefore they still, all these years later, gravitate to me first.

I spent 4 hours last night setting up Santa's grotto for the school so no housework was done. (However I can sprinkle fake snow in my sleep).

Managed yesterday to clear up my bedroom and removed all random bits and pieces. Of course the price to be paid was that one of the kids rooms was wrecked as I wasn't keeping enough of an eye on them. Ahh well.

JKSLtd Sat 24-Nov-12 11:43:31

With DD around there is always a price to pay like that, sigh.

We have 2 cats and only one really does laps, and he really only does my lap or FIL for some reason. He can be a nuisance though as likes to snuggle under the laptop until i have to move it - makes it hard to MN grin

Morning all.

Completed kids room swap yesterday. Every single room in the house was affected. It will take a while to sort. Going out in a Bit to escape.

Slatternismymiddlename Sun 25-Nov-12 19:35:47

Halfmum - what do the kids think of 'the great room swap of 2012'? Congratulations on getting it done.

My weekend has been lost to a myriad of kid activities. Fortunately DH has tackled the ironing mountain and it is now under control.

JKSLtd Sun 25-Nov-12 20:20:35

Yes, well done HMHB smile

return builders tray + thank-you chocs
Sort out Amazon return

DS1 Beavers
start on clearing out spare room
start on Areas of Doom that have got out of hand

Slatternismymiddlename Sun 25-Nov-12 21:35:12

Areas of Doom grin

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Mon 26-Nov-12 12:01:30

Slattern - the great room swap brought up a few issues. First DS had a new bunkbed for his new room and DD wanted to sleep in there too but she is too little. Then DS said she wasn't allowed in his room at all, cue lots of crying from DD. Then we had a 'talk' with DS and said that she was allowed to play in his room especially as it used to be her room and that if he didn't share he would have to go back to his old room. Anyway, we made her new room nice and she was happy with that. Phew

The room swap has enabled lots of tat toys to be moved out of the lounge so the downstairs is going to look nicer.

Stuff still to do
Swap kids clothes/drawers round.
Finish off in DS's room
Rug for DS
Blanket for DD
Get rid of mattress
Ebay play pen. Anyone want??

I shall go and find my other list to add on...

V wet here. Roads bad on thurs with A55 closed. Still raining. The fields and hills are sodden and there is nowhere for it to go. It is supposed to be dry for the rest of the week so hopefully it will dry up.

Minimammoth Tue 27-Nov-12 08:23:22

HMHB . How is it now. Managing here but eyes on the weather al the time. Thank god we live on a hill. Fields are just a lake.
Back to the desk today.

Stay safe hmhb, hope no one else is being flooded out. Would make for a killer list sorting out a house after that!

Having 5 mins with a cup of tea while dd trashes the place then it's time to get moving ...

FawkesoidOrganisoid Tue 27-Nov-12 10:31:25

Hope you're not too flooded hmhb. Our school got closed one day last week as the toilets all backed up. Had a slightly hysterical message from school asking us to pick up our dc!

Am at home today poorly sick. Had a flu type thing over the weekend. Went in yesterday but didn't feel great then today woke up with a rash and a very whooshy head so am off.

Trying to catch up on a few admin bits.

Morning all - hope you are all safe and sound and not floating down your street in your home made canoe clutching your laptops while frantically MNing with your latest lists.

I fell asleep on the settee last night and got nowt done, ahh well. Today is another day but I am at work so I doubt much will be done tonight either. Kick up the bum required please.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Tue 27-Nov-12 11:00:20

Last night I woke up at 1.45am and heard the rain coming down in stair rods. I fretted about the stream near our drive rising and rising up to our house (4-5 feet approx) and that the trees would fall down due to soggy soil not holding them up (I love them trees). But that was daft middle of the night fretting. Anyway this morning the stream is full to the brim and roaring past but not out of its bank so we are OK! Hurrah!

On the plus side my boss is trapped in his village by flood water so can't get in to work grin.

However, I may have to go home as nursery has just rung to tell me DD has a temperature sad poor DD.

Have sorted and completely streamlined (I hope) my filing!! I have a fairly complicated but works for me three stage process where I have a 'to do' folder, a couple of box files for open or ongoing stuff (eg divorce papers, tax credits, recent bills that I might need to send off to benefits people, payslips, council tax bill/benefit entitlements (as they send me a new one pretty much weekly and I have no idea anymore what I am entitled to or need to pay), dc school stuff...) and then have a filing cabinet where in theory they all get filed properly every 6 months or so. Except I havent filed them properly for about 2.5 years blush

Started off doing the bits in my 'to do' folder then went to file them in box files and decided to sort the box files. Sorted all those and then decided to file the sorted paperwork properly in my filing cabinet. So went upstairs and emptied out the filing cabinet because I realised that it was jam packed of old stuff. Have a big bag to shred and two bags for normal recycling blush

BF has told me off though as I had today off work to recover and he thinks I have wasted it by not relaxing and doing nothing and that it will take me longer to get better now. TBF it was ok while I was just sat on the living room floor lobbing paper onto various piles but emptying out the cabinet and carting loads up and down stairs did make me tired and cough a lot.

But anyway. MAJOR AREA OF DOOM - DONE!!!!

Now cooking dinner and have promised bf that once I've cleared up from that I will sit and do nothing

Minimammoth Tue 27-Nov-12 20:01:06

Well done Freaki, Down with DOOM, I say. wine

Sorry to hear there are so many ailments going around. It's especially hard to be motivated when you feel so rubbish.

I had some bad news at the hospital today, nothing life threatening , but have to have a treatment next week. Last time I had one I ended up in hospital with complications, so I'm hoping it doesn't happen again. It has given me the kick up the backside I needed as I'm bringing forward Christmas preparations, just in case I'm laid low.

Tonight I tackled the cupboard of chaos (thought the description went nicely with areas of doom). Once I bring pressies down from the attic to wrap they will go in there until 'the big day'.

DS wrote 5 more cards today - slow but we are getting there.

Hope everybody feels better soon.
