Tip of the day

Don't get in a panic over Christmas. Keep a box and put a little in it every week - small gifts, wine, nibbles, napkins etc. This way, you'll be more relaxed and less skint in December! keriku

Quote of the week

CaptainNancy's (admirably succinct) family rules: "Don't be a dingbat/duffer. Keep calm and carry on. Dream big. Shut up and get on with it."

Recipe of the week

Carmenere's cinder toffee: sweet, sticky, made-in-five-minutes toffee squares that'll spark off a few 'yums' among the 'oohs' and 'aahs' of your little fireworks-watchers.

Evening all

Not had the best of days, wont bore you with the minutai of it all - just to say night and hope tomorrows better
evening all

still no jobs done, went to meeting and the others weren't there angry. Work was none stop manic all day. Been to parent's house to welcome them back from holiday
smile Thanks scatty the joys hey? grin
Think I'm going to have the rest of the week off from FLYing. Not done too much this week, haven't done today's mission, just barely managed half of my days normal routines, it's just too hot.
See you tomorrow
Galen - you have done brilliantly smile. Poor ds2, hope he picks up tomorrow.

LBB - hope your LO picks up tomorrow too. Mine were permenantly poorly at that age (sorry).

Done:
walked home from school
washed up
dc fed
washed up
reboot laundry
ds to gym club
shops to buy food
ds collected
washed up!
dc ready for bed
reboot laundry
tidy up

To do
dc to bed
bath

collect ds
Hi All Sorry don't have time to catch up with everyone. galen so only one more task & the passports are on their way?
Wendy Fab idea with the laminated cards Ds only 4 but I think we can have a stab at it.
Next year DH will be taking care of him while I'm at work. So better try & make things easy for him!
Off to find things to do haven't looked around.
maggie yeah, this happens quite often, or rather has done for the past few months. He doesn't go floppy or anything or I would call 999. Sometimes he seems a bit 'out of it' but that's because he doesn't sleep and can't really settle when his temp's up. Everytime I have called NHS direct, but that doesn't really help tbh. Like I said when he is seen by a doc, his temp is low enough to be ok and they always try to give me anti-b's but say just as a precaution rather than a treatment. And we wonder why so many are immune.
Your poor dd, I wouldn't want to do sports day either. Maybe they should have cancelled it in this heat, it's not like 31 degrees is a normal summer for us so I don't think cancelling would be UR.
TPT He's ok, screaming his head off in the shower now. The only thing about taxi's and things is if I need to get one, it's because I'm on my own and with 2 of them.......not sure if my neighbours would help.
galen sympathies. Hope your ds2 is better soon.

I have looked in local supermarket for a fan, none in stock, will have to go further afield for one. I can put the fan in their room tonight and we'll go to a friends tomorrow hopefully.
swan exactly - was clapping enthusiastically with all others whilst secretly wishing I could crawl into a cool dark grass free cave LOL

Rounders tournament pick up done - less successfuly than I'd hoped. Initially went to wrong entrance of the school (was at a school I've not been to before) DS2 was massively sick everywhere just as we got there, cleaned him up, drove round hot and flustered to find correct entrance, collected DS1 who was last one there ( although I was still before time stated in letter they had finished 1/2 hour early and other parents had been watching) so felt huge surge of mommy guilt for not being able to go and watch (was going to till Ds2 was poorly)....although DS1 very happy cause they won and are off to the final on Mon...he's super chuffed bless him!grin
Anyway DS1 now home. Had scrambled eggs on toast for tea as risotto now rather dried up...Littlies in bed, DS2 immensely grateful to be back in his cot....

Now need to :
reboot laundry
bigies to bed
Glass of chilled wine and cake!!
Bed

See you all tomorrow!grin
Ah Galen, these special school functions they are sent to try us..or perhaps it is some isometric (is that right word)testing process where we have to pretend to be v. enthusiastic.
Fund raising cake friend says she did lots of small cakes (flapjacks and cup cakes to buy to eat with tea coffee) and then bigger loaf or round cakes (lemon drizzle, fruitbread, choc etc - she also was a fan of plum streusel cake) for people to buy to take away. Admittedly, it was the waitrose set round where she lives.
evening all
A quick hello before rounders tournament pick up

Ds 2 now poorly with temp. Have been to sports day and spent afternoon with shocking hayfever in a field of freshly cut grass in the stonking muggy heat with very sad ,hot and unwell DS2.....hasnt done much to help me ward off the grumpy mummy monster LOL

But home now. Dinner already done (yay for slow cooker!) DC all bathed to cool them down.
DS2 calpol-ed and asleep in bed shock
rest sitting reading ,
lunches done, clothes out for tomorrow
Fair ammount of mess and chaos around but am ignoring all non essentials!
Next to collect DS1 from rounders (unfortunately will have to wake up ds2 to take him out...) then home, littlies bed, DD1 shower, DD2 reading, DD1 and 2 bed,
Ds1 dinner,shower bed
Me - chill, eat very naughty cream cake awaiting me in the fridge!!!then bed

see you all tomorrow ladies grin

llb sounds very scary with high temp - mine only ever get temps with infections luckily - must be very stressful when you can't conveniently get to a doctor/hospital. NHS direct are good, have you phoned them? They phoned the hospital for me and arranged with children's ward for me to go in once, instead of dialling 999 - don't know if that's standard practice, though? Buy another fan asap! They must be in stock somewhere! Cold flannel still best remedy I find, I also have one of those gel packs (Mr Bump, I think) you can get which you store in freezer which dc like wrapped in a flannel for bumps and for fevers.
Am currently annoyed about state of the sofa - have put dd back in pull ups but MIL decided I was wrong and put her in pants on Sunday, then left her to her own devices and she did a wee on the sofa ... I just can't get rid of the smell! The covers are non removeable unfortunately. Another scrub with the carbolic later, but there is that strange smell now mixed carbolic and wee, ugh! Never tried Febreze people say it's rubbish?
Have organised the Marie Curie tea party for next Wednesday and invited 40 people so far ... hmm, hope they don't all come, better start making lists and buying cake ingredients!
In process of moving dd bedrooms, they are both happy with their separate rooms, and ds pleased to have his own toys in his room instead on in a spare room. See how they sleep in the morning!
mad hope counselling is ok
grouchy hope Ed is ok today and you too
wolf don't overdo it!
galen hope all ok on your own, and how is dh?
all bye for now
Also cannot beat tepid bath for cooling - I still lay the dds on bath cradle thing (their head these days!) to cool when fevrish
Hi all
madly hot
sorry to hear about poorly dd LLb. Tesco had some fans when I was in there yesterday - or sneak in and take the other one! I find spraying water spray in front of fan very effective in cooling overall temp of room and baby.

Can you pop an envelope with cash for taxi fare to hospital to one side in case needed in future - then forget about it until needed?

Sounds worrying and stressful.

Sports day here cancelled until cooler weather! Thank goodness

lbb - is your dc floppy or seems 'ill' when has high temp or is it 'just' the high temp iykwim? My DD2 gets very hot but GP said that a 40 degree temp but a happy baby was much better than a 38 degree temp but ill baby. We all have different thresholds so would suggest you keep doing what you are doing if this seems 'normal' for him. Obviously call nhsdirect if very worried.

sports day at dd2s preschool today. disaster. it was way too hot so she cried and wouldnt run the race. i carried her to the finish line and then we went home.
Good idea wolfcub and do you know what? Because I spent 15 mins a day all last week in my closet, I know exactly where my hot water bottle is grin

I signed up to the FLY website so am recieving e-mails. Some are really useful, some are complete c*ap, but still quite useful.
hello all

just a quick lunchbreak post, left house at 6:20 this morning so no flying done didn't even make bed as I hoped it might air off a bit witht he window open - fat chance in this heat.

Have a volunteer meeting tonight so won't be home until late for the second day in a row.

grouchy hope ed feels better soon
lbb shockat dr's comments and also at dp taking the only fan. You definitely need to buy another one. could you fill a hot water bottle with cool tap water and wrap it in a tea towel for ds to cuddle?
Hi all.

Our school haven't told us when sports day is yet. Tends to be last week of term and is weather dependent, so if its raining on Mon then it will be on Tues. A bit tricky to arrange time off at work for hmm.

LBB - I had dd up to a+e when she was a baby, she was fine by the time we got there (I went by taxi as was too worried to drive and try to park and too scared to call 999!?) They told me that it is common for babies to have very high temps and not to take her temp at all just carry on with calpol etc unless other symptoms developed (fit, loss of conciousness etc)! Its a worry though sad.

To do
everything on previous list plus buy food.

Take it steady Galen.
The rows I've had with the NHS you wouldn't believe. I don't drive and it always happens when I'm on my own. There's no direct way to hospital unless I called 999. I'll just do that next time I should think.
His temp has dropped a bit for now, will just have to see how it goes.
I did tell dp to buy some fans in the winter while they were still in stock and not costing the earth, but would he listen? Of course not........
Hope session goes alright, and your kind mum turns up - she must have missed them while you were away.
Dyslmum, that's fantastic, he must enjoy school.
Dd got a warning letter (I think I mentioned that a while back blushfor 87.5%...

Done lots of tidying in dcs' bedrooms

Thanks ladies.
He often gets temps of 40+ degrees, but by the time I get him to docs or a&e it has always fallen, they say it's ok if the calpol/ibuprofen is controlling it, but it normally only lasts an hour and I cant medicate him that often, is very frustrating when they won't do anything. But what can they do?
A few months ago, middle of night on a sunday, his temp was 42, I called out of hours doc and was told the only way the doc would come out was to confirm a death shock My ds1 isn't even 2 years old!!!!!! I had to call dp home from work (nights) to take him to hospital (prob should have just called 999) but again, when they got there it had dropped.
He is and has been in just a nappy and I am routinely songing him with a cool flannel, have a tub of water next to me for him. Am trying to keep his hair/head wet too. I also have bottles of frozen water around the house trying to cool the air, not sure it working though.
Dp starts nights tonight so is in bed and has fan in there with him, the selfish sod!
lbb poor you and ds, sound advice from TMH*

LBB, poor you, sounds worrying and knackering. Did you try just taking all his clothes off and sponging him?, I'm sure you know everything already.

I took all the plastic matress protectors off dcs' beds to make things a bit cooler for them, (luckily no accidents)it made a big difference.
I also put all blinds up and windows open as soon as it was dark, to maximize circulation, then closed them last thing at night before dawn hit us.

Playroom tidy (ier)
now have to fetch ds2 from school again and take to appt at drs.

Morning again

Groucy Sorry Ed is not on top form, glad it gives you the op to take things easier grin

Swan I guess the heat must be taking it toll on everyone down south

Dyls Hope you find out the time, not sure I would like to go to a sports day where you are ATM

Councelling session

I am also going to fill the paddling pool for the mini's and find their gazebo to pop over it too!!!

I love the sun, must sort out the rest of the week - may even have a picnic dinner somewhere!
Grouchy, - just taken out my Decade Album, "Old Man Take A Look at My Life" is one of my favourites. Sorry Ed's ill, but glad it's a breather for you.
Hello, Wendy, Scatty and Dylsmum

Mine are sleeping okay, and in quite a good mood, but I am noticeably grumpy for going to bed too late (last minute desire to leave kitchen neat and tidy and do lunchboxes)

And as far as I can see, tidying at night is like writing great music while intoxicated, not so great next morning. House is still covered with muddle and mess. Dh has bought 6 new shirts, and is refusing to throw any of the old ones except a particularly hideous orange one.

Ds1 screamed at me because he couldn't find his library book at last minute, and pjs everywhere along with cds and books.
So TIDYUP time for 30 mins before I even think of what other jobs are.
Morning Ladies

Thanks for the thread Dyls

Hello to Wendy Scatty and Mad

<<Waves>> to all who follow.

Ed is off school, sore throat, hot and cold spells and a raised gland in his neck. He is confined to Education City and board games

Means I can tackle the FLY backlog, like the laundry. Thing is, it's too muggy to dry on the line, the air is stagnant hmm

I can also take the opportunity to rest up. I think I need it TBH

Made tea last night, pepper and bacon lasagne which was very nice. Might do tea tonight too as I wont be rushing here there and everywhere.

DONE list

Wash Ed
Wake Ed again

Take crockery downstairs
Peg washing out
Make porridge

Feed cat
