I know that it totally depands on how much carpet is being cleaned but is there a general rule / formula for roughly working out a price?
I.e. so much per square metre?
Carpet has been sicked up and dribbled on for 10 months now by my DTs and it's getting pretty filthy now. Think a professional is my only hope!
TIA!

I had 2 sofas and a 12ft by 13 ft FILTHY front room carpet done for about £70.
The guy tried to get me to have the 'platinum' service, rather than the 'bronze' service I had ordered, which made me chuckle.
Surely you either clean a carpet, or you don't?

Our lounge was about £70 I think.
We rented the Rug Doctor from BandQ recently though and it was only about £20 and we did the whole house with it, can thoroughly recommend it.

Mine is normally about £25 for a reasonably sized living room. They move the furniture and clean under it too, which I love.
Gosh am very
at Haylstones cheap cleaning. I got quoted £100.00 for our lounge and dining room, so hired the Rug Doctor. I found it not too difficult to use, and as it was only £25.00 for the hire, means I can do it each year.
I've got my own carpet cleaner. It's a bissell machine, but vax and others do them too. I probably do mine monthly since I can see how much filth it gets up each time!
ive got a bissell quick wash - fab cleaner! Do ours every 2 months or so.

Last time I did a thorough clean we hired a rug doctor. They have them at focus and some drycleaning outlets.
it's only about £15 to hire for 24 hours and they did a really good job.

Thanks for all your replies. How exactly does the Rug Doctor work as that seems to be the most cost effective way of cleaning carpets? Does it make the carpet wet/damp and how long does it take to do, say, an average sized sitting room?

£70??!!! you can buy a new vax for that amount and do it yourself!!!
ive always just hired the carpet cleaners and done it myse;f it cost £25 for the weekend picked up the cleaner on friday morning and return by 5pm monday and they provide the solution too! that was with johnsons dry cleaners.
I used Rug Doctor. Was very good at cleaning but did take some time and effort and were a bit damp 'til the next day. Well worth it though.

I know shesells!! Criminal isn't it? Actually, I think he did the bedroom as well for that but it's very steep. It was a last minute thing as I dropped a cup of tea on a cream carpet while our place was for sale and had to get him in last minute.
With the rug doctor, like staryeyed said carpets are dampish til next day but not soaking wet or anything. You have to buy the chemicals to go in it too, but it's a lot bigger/more industrial/more effective than a bissel or vax type thing.

sorry - in answer to the time question, would take about half an hour I reckon to do an average lounge with the RD.

Do you need to book the Rug Doctor from B&Q or wherever you hire it from or do they have lots of them? Sounds great and cheap too.

They normally have 2/3 machines, I've always booked. Or phoning before you go to make sure they have one available
You have to buy the solution as well, but once you've got it you can use it again next time.

Thanks! Is it B& Q that you used woodenchair?
Sainsburys have a franchise outlet within their stores. You can hire a carpet cleaner for the morning at £7, or £15 for the full day.
They're excellent, and it's quite relaxing in an anal sort of way

Jajas it was Focus, don't know if B&Q have them
Think I have just paid over the odds then. Paid £170 to have the living room (12x14ft), stairs and two sofas cleaned! He did do an excellent job though.

If you DIY, pick a day when it's dry, if cold. Open all the windows and put the heating on after you clean.

The bloke I use charges me £50 for our whole sitting room and dining room, and £25 for a double bedroom.
That is a steam clean rather than using cleaning fluids which I don't like the idea of.

Ive used the rug doctor and had someone in to do it, but i found when using the rug doctor the carpets were left alot wetter and took far longer to dry...
I use www.carpet-fresh.com/, really good prices and have brought my carpets back to life a good few times, and dry in no time at all compaired to the rug doctor.
I honestly wouldnt go through the hassle of hiring and doing it myself after using them. For some reason I always thought it would be far cheaper to do myself but its actually not, plus i can put my feet up while someone else does the work for a change

Agreed with the above, the machines that you use to do it yourself are no comparison to a proffessional that does it for a living. I use www.go-clean.com.au in Adelaide now and The carpets are always great. The difference in price is negligable when compared to hiring machines, and the machines you hire are no good on tiles but I can get Go Clean to do those for me too.
The hired machines leave your carpet wet for ages, but go clean keeps the carpet dry so I can walk on it.
I've used other carpet cleaning companies in the past who havnt been as good as Go Clean, but they were deffinitley all better than rug doctor
