After seeing them mentioned on here a while back I bought a packet of soda crystals, but now I can't remember what to do with them! Please help.

DW always puts them in a pre-wash for whites - helps them get properly clean and doesn't it help stop the washing machine getting clogged up?

I am never without them.

Whack them down your drains with hot water to clean it out.
Can put them in the bottom of pans with some water, will lift burnt on grease right off.
I wet my bathroom suite, shake some on, rub around with a cloth, leave for an hour then rinse of and rub with a cloth.
You can put them in with greyed white washing and they'll come up lovely, amazing on school/work shirts. Cheaper than vanish power too.
Cleans ovens amazingly.

They can be dangerous though. Make sure you check the packet and there will be a list of things you shouldn't use them on and why.

Spoon some into the sink trap and add a cup of boiling water to dissolve them, by orning it will have cleaned and freshened.

Put a couple of cups in the washing machine with NO POWDER and do a hot hot hot cycle to remove sludge.

Do not let it get on aluminium alloy items especially cooker parts as it will take the surface off.

Thank you for the info

Can be used to clean thermos flasks out. De-ordorising particularly smelly doesn't smell fresh with only wash sports kit.

Can be used for so much, they are brilliant.

Quick question - if I am putting them in the washing machine, which bit of the drawer?

PigletJohn Wed 09-Jan-13 14:30:05

you could put them in the soap powder drawer, or in the drum.

But you can take out the drawer and scrub it in the sink using very hot water. The drawer slot will need scrubbing with a nylon brush

If you google soda crystals it'll take you to the company that sells the bags and they have loads of suggestions for using them. I like soaking Tupperware tubs in a solution when they're stained/holding on to food smells etc.
