Can I ask do you end up with very steamy rooms when you use a steam generator? My steam cleaner has an iron attachment, and I used it once and never again because the whole room was full of steam!

I need to get a new iron though (and an ironing board - my current one is 25 years old!) so was considering a steam generator if they are any good.

I have a Tefal steam iron tis brill can't recommend highly enough. but i also have a cheapie steam iron for quick job/ one item.

I've got one, a Tefal bought about two years ago.

I hate ironing and it halves the time spent doing it so worth every penny.

Shirts are easy and linen stuff. You can use it to freshen up things too, jackets on hangers or curtains without taking them down. You dont get shiny marks on synthetics as you just steam without touching the fabric.

It definitely makes ironing quicker. And an extra large ironing board helps too. Especially if you iron bedding like I stupidly do.

I tend to let it buildup too but have found that recording tv and watching that helps. Home and Away is my guilty pleasure! Two episodes of that or an hour episode of something else a few times a week keeps it all under control.

I find the steam generator iron makes short work of dh's shirts which I hate ironing - much faster and gets the creases out much better.

I have the most basic model Argos did about 3 years ago. Under £50 and fantastic value.

I changed the filter ( a gel filled tube)about 2 weeks in and then realised it would cost a lot to do it again .So Ive never bothered grin

I wouldnt be without it and although it is a lot bigger than normal irons I found a place for it and store it away with no trouble.

I have one, I love it, it means I only iron one side of the tshirt, etc,
I love being able to do 30-40 minute ironing without having to refil the iron.

I am completely sold.

I got mine from argos (same company as homebase) and they normally have a few on offer

They can be brilliant for electricals mainly because no one thinks to go there!

Thanks Panzee and Fluffy smile

I know they are a bit bulky, but I'm willing to compromise a bit of space for easier ironing! I also like a heavy iron. Kind of feels like it does the job better iykwim?

Fluffy thanks for the link - didn't occur to me to look at Homebase for an Iron for some reason! Will definitely go into Homebase tomorrow and have a look - its a couple of shops down from Currys where I have reserved the other one.

I have this one, its brilliant. You'd get and extra 20% off for spending over £50 at the moment too.

I got an extra wide ironing board from Costco too. I wouldn't buy anything else ironing related from homebase as they are so overpriced, I bought a felt underpad for the board from aldi for £1.49 that was £13 in homebase, same make of pad!.

They a very good.

Just meant to clarify, not that one specifically, just a steam generator iron.

Panzee Mon 31-Dec-12 19:49:59

I used to have one. Yes it's good but it's huge and heavy. I hate ironing and it got in the way a bit. I bought a small one to replace it when it broke and although the ironing is poorer it takes up much less space and is less of a fag to haul around.

QueenOfCats Mon 31-Dec-12 19:47:03

Do you have one and if so, is it any good?

I hate ironing and let it build up to epic proportions before I tackle it. This is ridiculous I know.

Part of the problem is that my iron is rubbish, so I've been wanting a steam generator one, but waiting for the sales.

Anyway, I've found this one:

Do you think it's any good? (Sorry if the link doesn't work, not done one before) blush
