Cleaning up before visitors

I do clean for visitors I'm expecting; the hoover to be precise; a special for those staying over, though we're in Oz, so fewer of these. Clean towels, bathrobe and bedlinen for all overnighters.

Always happy to have someone drop by, though I do a quick recce of the lav to see if all's well before/during the visit. Not while they're on the pan, of course.grin

I just keep some 'Get Well Soon' cards out so it looks like I have been poorly and unable to clean wink

Depends on the visitor!
I'm happy with people just dropping in, and they take us as thy find us, but if I've invited people for a party or a meal, I try to clear the surfaces and send the duster and hoover round.

low-wattage light bulbs will prevent visitors seeing the dirt.

If people are staying over, the kitchen, bathroom and room they are staying in get a proper deep clean, rest of the house gets a hoover. I think it's only fair as I've spent nights at friends and been given dirty towels or had to visit the filthy loo and I'd hate someone to feel grossed out by my home! Other people popping in - we have a tiny downstairs so usually just run around collecting papers/post/shoes/jumpers to dump upstairs because it gets so cluttered. But I like cleaning blush

I have visitors every day as I work from home. My house is always tidy (apart from the playroom and toys everywhere!) and the kitchen and loo are clean. I vacuum daily (hairy dog) so no, I don't make a special effort for people just popping in.

I'm half-and-half. I stack the dirty plates in the sink so they're not sprawled across counters and I tidy, but definitely don't dust. I will sweep the floors but if I don't have time to mop, I'll just go over some obvious places with a babywipe! If it's friends visiting, I'll make more of an effort, but I'm more of a sweep-it-under-the-carpet/don't-look-in-the-cupboard-under-the-stairs kinda gal. Mr Vamos donesn't give a hoot, as long as there's a clear path for visitors to get from front door to the sofa smile

This is actually Mr. Grumpy posting...

Whenever we have a visitor, whether it's a workman or family, Mrs. Grumpy deep-cleans the house to within an inch of its life. I'm more piggish relaxed.

There are three homes I visit, often as a drop-in, the residents don't seem to to have any embarassment at all about the state of their houses. Two of them are very neat, but the 3rd home is really messy.

Those people take the view "this is how we live" - and regard a special clean just for company as a sort-of dishonesty. Everyone wants to show their best face to the world, but are most home-owners really embarassed because visitors see there are dishes in the sink, or the bookcase is dusty?
