Never owned a sewing machine in my life and I'm thinking about buying one. Any ideas for me, just want a basic thing that I can get to know and use. I have no idea how to use a sewing machine but I'm willing to learn!! Help!!

Try asking on the Arts and Crafts thread, lots of really helpful people over there

Can you get to John Lewis? They have a great range and always have one amazing lady who knows everything about sewing and machines.
I got a Janome from them about 7-8 years ago and love love love it. I paid about £360 but you can pay a lot less (or a lot more
) I use it for curtains/blinds/dolls' clothes/fancy dress outfits for school dress up days etc.
Main pro - I've saved hundreds of pounds making my own curtains. Curtains are very easy to make, so are Roman blinds. Another pro - Janome is a British brand, made about 5 miles from where I live. Can't think of any cons...
The amazing John Lewis lady was also very helpful when I went back to ask her how to use one of the special sewing feet. I've even heard her give out her mobile number to new customers in case they need any help. Now that's customer service
