Mine has just died, and will cost £160 to mend. The repair man was impressed, as it's a 6 year old Hotpoint, and apparently he doesn't see many of those, as Hotpoint are now pants!
I need at least a 7kg capacity, and a 1200/1400 rpm spin.
What have you got, and would you recommend it?

My Indesit died 2 weeks ago and I bought an LG. I have always had Indesit washing machines and they have all lived to between 5-7 years with heavy use! But they were loud so on the advice of a few friends I bought an LG.
They have a direct drive drum which apparently means they are quiet. They are! I love my new machine, it cost £400 so not cheap more mid-range. I would recommend it. Features I love;
Large drum
Spins from 400 - 1400 rpm
Handwash cycle
woolwash cycle
But main pro is it is quiet! Oh and it sings me a nice tune when the load is finished!

I've had this one for 18 months and am pretty pleased with it - it's much quieter than our old one and you can do a 30 deg load in 1 hour 10 mins.
I've found that washing shirts at 30 degs does not get the cuffs and collars completely clean, but at 60 degs I've not had any problems. Not sure if that's related to the machine or not but thought it worth mentioning!
My favourite thing is the timer (I think you can set it to start up to 24 hours later - may not be that many though) and the huge capacity!

Oh forgot to mention that the LG machine has a quick 30 min wash which is very handy!
I have the predecessor to this Bosch one
Mine is only 6kg but it's the same otherwise - has a time remaining display & you set the temp & type of wash with a dial
washes really well & very quiet (well mine is, I think the Which report called this one noisy, but it may be that others have got quieter
)
even cheaper at appliancesonline which is well recommended on MN - next-day delivery £10, 2-3 day delivery free

Thanks ladies!
I like the look of that one, Ponders, particularly the 15 minute wash

so the folk that make bosch are good and they also make
zanussi and somthing else - have a google
they always come up good in the which and GH stuff (though I do think that is closely linked to who advertises with the publication!!)
John Lewis own brand is guarenteed for 5 years now I think so have a look at them too, not forgetting they deliver for free.
I have a miele! Love it. From M&S with a 10 year guarentee. 20 & 30 min wash.

bosch is siemens not zanussi. (although they might still be!!)
it is a brilliant machine, ShipsCat - & mine doesn't have a quick wash, so the new one is even betterer!

OK, my new machine should be here on Wednesday
Ponders, I got the next model up, as DH insisted we needed a faster spin!
Did it arrive safely? Have you had fun playing with it?

Zanussi is not Bosch. Zanussi is a brand owned by Electrolux, who also own lots of other brands.
Bosch and Siemens each own 50% of the household appliances company that designs and builds them for their two brands, so there are considerable similarities in products, and both brands are very reliable.
