This afternoon I have slept, feel much better and dinner is imminent.

JKS we are watching Biggest Loser too and then it is bedtime when that finishes as we are both knackered.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Mon 26-Jul-10 18:47:19

DS will be 4 and we have invited the 12 kids in his class and 4 more. He didn't have a party last year or the year before so we're going large. Sadly only 6 have confirmed hmm. So it could go either way.

Mini/PBM - Doing cake this evening. Icing tomorrow. Am thinking if I do a chocolate cake I won't have to ice the sides and I can just to the monkey face on top in pale brown (i.e. chocolate) icing. What do you think?

Today
Bake cake / fairy cakes
Wrap DS's presents (if they arrive! ) - one has arrived!
Wrap pass the parcel presents
Buy feathers for indian headdresses

Tues
DH to put up teepee
hide swords/shields done
Put table in tent
Put up awning
Finish decorating cakes
Extra food shop - hot dog buns
Tidy house
Make party bags/ indian headdresses?

Wed
DS set up obstacle course
Set up tea/coffee for adults
Hide sweets in garden for 'Treasure Hunt'
Set everything up and have party

Probably lots more!

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Mon 26-Jul-10 19:32:07

Second cake question of the evening.

Do I need to line the sides of the tin as well as the base?

and the third

If I am making this into a chocolate cake how much cocoa powder to add to buttermilk cake mix as per nigella (i.e a 250g flour cake)

tell me to shove off to the baking forum if this is annoying.

Alibabaandthe40nappies Mon 26-Jul-10 19:43:48

HMHB - I usually just line the bottom of the tin and grease the sides really well.

For the chocolate cake, when I did one for DS last week I had 9oz of flour and I replaced 4 level tablespoons of flour with cocoa powder and that was lovely and chocolately - that was following Good Housekeeping instructions.

I'm not sure about the icing, it depends what sort of icing you're making. If you are using buttercream icing then that is fairly easy to do the sides with as it sticks pretty well - but yes if the cake is brown too then strictly you don't need to ice the sides.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit Mon 26-Jul-10 19:58:14

Thanks Ali.

I'll keep you updated as to the results...
