Has anyone trained to become a driving instructor??

I am trying to decide on a new career path after being SAHM for nine years. I am considering training to become a driving instructor, primarily because of the relative flexibility it will give me (i hope).
Just wondered if it would be worth pursuing, given the cost and time involved. Then what if I change my mind, again, about what I want to do.
Any other flexible career ideas gratefully appreciated too.

I started training to be an instructor a few years ago. I had to pay for the full course upfront, and passed the first two exams. Then I had a car accident (not my fault) and lost my confidence. I probably would have waited until I felt differently, had I not looked around and seen how many instructors on the road there were. Also google Driving instructor forum, and you will see that despite assurances from schools like BSM, AA, Red etc, there is not enough work for them, and after paying for all their expenses, they are not breaking even. Adverts like Red on TV should be taken with a pinch of salt, as not many of them will earn anything like 30k.

Finally, driving instructors are not that flexible unless you do want to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

My cousin trained to be a driving instructor with BSM. It was not a good experience by all accounts and it cost him quite a lot of money for the exams and stuff.

I don't know if that is typical though.
