Anyone do evening shelf stacking at local supermarket?

I am wondering about enquiring about doing evening shelf stacking at my local sainsburys. I am currently a SAHM, but would like to do maybe a couple of shifts a week so that it would ease the current financial pressures, plus DH would be home to have the DC.

Anyone do this type of work? Any advice?

Is there any other evening work which people do? I don't fancy check-out or bar/restaurant work.

I used to work for B&Q stacking shelves. It was quite tiring working after a long day with my DD (just had one at the time) but the pay wasn't too bad and I got a discount card too. I think I finished at 11pm but it was 5 nights a week so quite hard going.

Then I did waitressing - which I loved. The tips were great and I only left when they started keeping our tips
They were very late nights though - finishing between 1am and 2am. I usually worked 2 or 3 shifts per week (different days each week).

Then I worked for an insurance company 4 evenings a week from 6pm until 9.15pm. It paid quite well and it meant I got home at a pretty reasonable time. It was also working at a desk so not too physically demanding. I really enjoyed that job because it was always so busy and the time flew by. There was sometimes overtime at double pay available too.

I did it at Wilkos and it was ok, we had a laugh anyway.

I did 4 shifts a week 6-10.

Have you thought about NHS Direct? They supplement pay for the night shifts.

I have a friend who does it 3 nights a week and is a SAHM the rest of the time.

I think she does about 8pm-1am or similar. I know that Tesco are not suppose to be taking on any extra staff.

I suppose it depends on the store etc as to the hours. Any idea where's best to find these jobs? I'm thinking that contacting my local stores direct will be best?

I don't fancy waitressing etc as I really don't feel like dealing with the customers in the evening when i'll probably be a bit knackered!

I work at IKEA three nights a week, 8.30 until 12.30. It's not ideal, but it's good money for what it is and the hours are convenient. Physically tiring, but not brain taxing.

MrsBish - you want to look on-line at their career section. I believe they (the larger ones - sainsburys, tescos, morrisons, M&S) now only advertise on-line, but it won't hurt to ask your local ones too for advice.

I did, at the co-op from 6pm till 10pm three nights a week, also had to do Sat morning.

I found it hard work and quite boring, we weren't allowed to talk to each other

at our local university they had evening shelvers to put the books away.
