applying for part-time work, urgently need advice

I have seen a job that I am interested in but advertised full-time. I phoned up to see what their policies were on flexible working and job-shares and they said they would consider an application from two people who put themselves forward as a job-share but that they would not consider trying to match me (ie someone interested in p-t) with someone else. I feel angry by this narrow-minded view (which is normal of course). How do they know - having not even seen my cv - that me and another person - might not be the best option for the job? They are narrowing their own options by telling me not to bother applying, which doesn't help anyone. I am also annoyed because I am sure I was speaking to a fairly junior person in HR and, without wanting to sound too bullish, I know that I am more than qualified for the job and that the actual people who I'd be working with might take a different approach. Do I bung my application in anyway with a covering letter explaining or will it not get past the junior in HR? help.

I'd be tempted to apply for the full time post, go dazzle them at interview, then ask about working part time possibilities.
