not exactly going back more changing, I NEED HELP!

I have been back at work for 12 months now, but ds is due to start school ft in Sept. My current job is not school friendly hours, can be ant time between 7am and 21.30 and nights.

Heres the issue, i want to be the one who takes ds to school everyday and pick him up, I do not want to pay someone to do that. I just can not think of a job that would be suitable, i am currently working in care and have been for 12 years and am qualified to degree level.

I dont really mind a job that doesn't require these qualifications. It is more important to get the right hours. I do not really need to work apart from for my sanity, i currently only do 25 hpw and this would suit me fine.

I have to work because if i don't i would become a total recluse and home ed ds and not interact with world (hope that makes ssense) I just need ideas of jobs i could possibly do because i am totally stuck on where to look and what to look for. sorry if this does not make sense brain works faster than fingars! Ideas please

Sorry, no ideas. tbh I would have thought you'd be very limited in your options - you would probably need to be loking atsomething very local to where your ds's school is, and maybe fairly low status/low pay. Why is the school drop off/pick up so desoerately important that you feel you have to be the one to do it? I agre that when a child first starts school it can be a useful way to meet people, but honestly, apart from this, i don't think you'll be missing out at all!! Also, with your current working hours, it sounds unlikely that you're able to do all the nursery/childminder drop offs, so your ds must be used to other people having this role??

Personally i totally understand why you want to do the pick up and the drop off. I won't go into that because it makes me sad that I only pick up at the moment.

GP secretaries often work part time TBH unless you're talking a really big practice, and 9.30 to 2 would be fine for many of them? It's not a bad job at all. I currently work at £8.50 an hour but they're going to pay my replacement £10 an hour because the supply of suckers has run out .

Write to local GP surgeries saying you are looking for work between these precise hours. You might be surprised what you get, e.g. phlebotomy, or a part-time reception/general admin job.

Alternatively have you tried the school itself? Our primary school employs someone to cook the lunches, this is getting more common in the post-Orrery/Oliver world - she works 24 hrs p/w and it seems to be flexible.

OH btw my practice has just appointed someone to Reception who wrote in speculatively about six months ago. It never hurts to ask.

Have you looked at local autorities? They often offer flexi time and /or job shares.
