To take school job ?

I have strong interest in a job in a school, it's 30 hrs a week 9-3 (probably 8:30 - 3:30 taking commute into consideration ) Monday to Friday. I have a young DD (9mo) and I'm concerned about leaving her so many days a week, the thought of it makes me sad.

My DH thinks I'm not giving enough thought to the weekends and school holidays - "bulk" time off ?

It's a great opportunity and I know I'll appreciate having holidays off when she and subsequent children are older. It would also mean I'd never have to do nights and always be there at bedtimes.

Am I only thinking this is too much as I'm just returning to my current job from mat leave and the thought of working so many hours is overwhelming?

Please someone talk some sense in to me! TIA

30 hours is nothing. School jobs are like rocking horse shit... everyone wants them. Don't underestimate the sheer power of a job that gives you all school holidays off - otherwise you've got a good 7/8 years of holiday childcare to find. Seriously, if you have the chance, go for it.

Do you actually want the job or are you just thinking it would fit in with family?

Depends how many hours you'd have to work at your old job to earn the same money. i.e. if you could work fewer hours for the same money(if there's the possibility of pt) Do you know the actual salary, if the full-time salary is advertised and it's pro-rata, term time only it will be a lot less than you think!

School jobs are great for school holiday childcare but they can also be really inflexible for things in term time. You can't book a day's leave to go to sports day etc as all you leave has to be taken in the holidays.

Ultimately, I think you need to actually want the job. There is huge competition for these roles and if your main enthusiasm is the holidays they'll spot that at interview.

I definitely have a huge interest in the job, it's a dream job !! There's no issue there, literally just the thought of being away from DD.

You'd have to be away from your DD for any job. You're not going to find better hours.
