Career Coach: Anyone used one?

I'm at a bit of a crossroads and could do with some clarity and help.

Has anyone used a professional to help them find a bit of direction?

Yes I have used a coach to help find clarity and direction. As a result, I quit my job, set my own business and now work as a confidence coach for working mums myself. I continue to work with a coach for me and my business. It can be very powerful to work with a coach because it's somebody who accepts you for who you are, doesn't judge what you want or how you feel, and generally enables you to make decisions more quickly and more effectively. Most of us could get to where we want to go eventually - doing with a coach gets you there more quickly and more directly.

Most coaches offer complimentary discovery or clarity calls. I'd encourage you to do a few of those, see what your gut instinct is telling you, and get some more information about how the coach works. Some work more as career advisors rather than 'coaching' in the strictest sense.

I'm using one at the moment, I was made redundant a few months ago and got a coach as part of my outplacement support. She's been really good at untangling the jumble inside my head, helping me to drill down and identify what's important, prioritise things etc. It means when I've looked at a job spec I've got something to measure it against. And when I've gone for an interview I feel a lot more confident in saying why I'm interested in the role, and in the questions I ask them.
