need flexible working - when should i mention this to a potential employer

As my current employers are trying to make me redundant i need to start looking for another job. when should i mention i need flexi-time? when i fill the application form in, when i get an interview etc etc. My DS will be in nursery fulltime but they shut at 6.00 pm so i don't want to have to always leave work early etc if i get a job which is a long commute from home ... i also don't want to rule myself out of jobs. Not quite sure how to tackle this so any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I was made redundant in March and had the same problem, I didn't mention it until I was offered a job. When I asked they said my contractual hours are 9am to 5.30pm, but they were prepared to be flexible, the job was temp to perm, I started in May as a temp and became perm in September, it was ideal because he gave me a chance to see whether they really would be flexible and they are. They have also told me that after 6 months I can apply to work flexible hours and I know that's required by law, but they have told me they have not yet refused anyone's application and as long as my requests is reasonable they won't refuse.

I am in the same position but I think I will apply for part time jobs to start as I want to work half time ideally I think

I would mention it once they have offered you the job though. I should imagine if they know you have kids they will expect that you will need to leave at a reasonable time, they may even bring it up in the interview

Oh no, CD, are you being made redundant?

Is it legal to ask you about kids? I would think that has no bearing on the job. "Can you work from x to y" seems fair but I didn't think they could point blank ask about kids.... but then maybe I'm thinking of a US law.
