I trained as a registered nurse and worked for 15 years in various roles before moving overseas with dh's career. Couldn't work overseas due to visa and didn't need to financially fortunately. Then had ds and have had very p/t jobs for past couple of years.
My nursing registration has long since lapsed obviously, but now ds is older, I have thought about returning to nursing. Spoke to woman who runs return to practice course and missed the boat for current course but she assured me they have funding for more courses and she would contact me. Meanwhile I applied to Nurse Bank to work as HCA, got accepted and have done my induction and this week did my first of 2 orientation shifts.
The staff didn't seem to be expecting me, they weren't very friendly but ok, I'm 'extra' maybe they are busy.
Felt like total fish out of water for first couple of hours but HCA I was allocated to work with was helpful and pleasant enough.
Things have changed in the NHS a LOT since I last worked but understandable I expect.
I have my second shift tomorrow and am frankly shitting my pants!
By the end of my first shift I felt a bit more comfortable.
Is it normal to feel like this or am I complete idiot?!
After tomorrow's shift I will be signed off and able to work wherever there are shifts.
I suppose I'm looking for reassurance from people in similar situation, returning to work after long break. Do the nerves go eventually?!
