Work

are all ads on the internet a scam

My friend is wanting to work from home but does not want to do direct selling like usbourne books or delivering catalogues.

There are loads of work from home ads on the internet for envelope stuffing and filling in surveys. They all want money up front. Are they all scams or does anyone know of a legit firm where you can actually make money.
Any ideas or personal experiences would be great

any place that offers you work but asks for money upfront is a scam.

You should never have to pay money in order to work for a company, it just doesn't make sense, steer clear.

some work from home opportunities such as usborne/avon involve you setting up your own business as becoming self employed. This does usually mean a start up fee, and this varies as to how much and what you get - admin fee, stock, stationary etc. All the legit direct selling agencies are on www.dsa.org.uk

But i do agree that there are an awful lot of scams out there, just search for the company name and scam in google and you'll usually find dozens of people who have already been ripped off.

HTH and goodluck
Gemma (Usborne and Avon rep and def. not a scam)

Most multi level marketing (direct selling) companies like Usborne & Phoenix cards (which I di) Avon, Body Shop, Virgin Vie etc etc will have a start up fee for cost of kit etc. I beleive that some like Avon deduct it from your first commission rather than up front.

There is virtually NO working from home these days that does not involve becoming self employed and therefore incurring business start-up costs.

Envelope stuffing id BOUND TO BE A SCAM. I have worked as an envelope stuffer many, many times but always it has been carried out at a company premises. Companies either do it in house using their own staff or a pool of temps, or contract it out to a mailing house who do it with machined. Often it has to go via mailsort which involves computer programmes.

My husband has sent out mailshots and would neveer trust them to someone working from home, timing is usually crucial and he has to know that it will be ready for a deadline and to trust the environment where it is carried out. He usually comandeers members of our family to help out but they never take it with them, they come to our house where we can keep an eye on how it is going etc.

The only people I know who genuinly work from home and are emplyed by someone else are those who worked for a company previously and have managed to negotiate doing some of their work from home.
