I have posted here as I dont know where to put it.
I have been recovering from major illness for the last few years. I suffered a brain tumour and a stroke and all known complications following this.

My recovery has been a major journey. I am at home now and the days are very long. In my head I am ready for a new adventure but in reality my physical symptoms are still there and make this hard.

Part of my recovery, over the last few years was to eventually go into Social Work. Well, I have applied and I cant believe I have got an interview. Is this doable for me. Or, am I just dreaming ?

Fantastic that you have made such amazing progress and recovery and rememebr that through this next transition.

Have you got qualifications iin social work and stuff then?

Are you considering working part time / flexible hours etc?

I have a Foundation Degree in Early Years and many years experience working in a Children's day nursery.
However, if I was to go down the Social Worker route, I would need to gain a Ba in Social Work, which is a Full time course. I would then choose to work Part time.
When studying for the Ba at college, there are also full time placements to do.
Am I silly for thinking I can do this, some friends are saying give it a go, and see if you can manage.
This has been my aim and focus of getting better, thinking everything I do is leaning towards studyiing for this quaification.

Congratulations on your recovery. I would say most definitely go for it.

You might find that the course entry requirements stipulate (or give unacknowledged preference to candidates with) some form of recent experience. If this is the case, some voluntary/sessional work would boost your chances...

Congratulations. Is your interview for the BA Social Work course? I would say give it a go. It may be worth asking if you could take a day off here and there throughout the placements if necessary - my understanding is they are for a set amount of days or hours so as long as you fulfill whatever the amount is eg 60 days it doesn't matter how you go about doing so.

Yes, the interview is for the Ba Social work.

Hi Purple!
Well done on getting better, I'm a student social worker and absolutely love it. Give it a go, take things as they come, if it is right it will happen for you. X

Hoochymama Please could you tell me a bit about a typical week ?

How many days are you in Uni ? Do you do assignments in the evening?
Do you have time to watch telly ? Have you started the placements ?
What are they like ? Which area are you interested in and hoping to work in ?

I would be grateful for any information. If I get through the interview process next week, I still dont know whether I will manage physically.
