Interesting article in the Guardian today

Didn't think there was much advice available on exactly WHAT kind of work she could do, though

Apart from teaching what other jobs will give you the school holiday off work?

I know some nurses who work school hours and term time only. Don't know if this would be possible as a newly qualified nurse though. With hindsight I think it is easier to negotiate flexible hours if you have worked for your employer before you have children, than to try to find a job like that if you have been out of the workforce for a few years

good article katyp.

I was very excited at the start of it as I'm at the same place in my life as the woman mentioned and I've been racking my brains to come up with a job that would fit around the kids schooling.

But the answers were too vague, setting up your own business seems to be the answer, but I've got no inclination to do this. I just want something that I can do when the kids are in school and have the holidays off to be with them.

I was in retail management and I know no retailer would have much use for a very part time manager, so I'd be willing to go back even as a sales girl if I could get the hours to suit eg. term time. But here in Scotland thats a no no.

I guess it depends where you live too, my sister is in the midlands and there are lots of jobs there I could fit around, but here there aren't half as many jobs and it's more difficult.

Yes ssd, I was a bit dissappointed as I thought the advice was too vague. I am also getting to that stage of my life. I have one or two ideas about doing something from home but would need to retrain/do a refresher course and ideally get some experience with a company first.

My big problem is that I don't really want to go back to what I used to do, though being realistic, that might be an easier way of getting something part-time.
