We have been told recently that our Y1 DS is going to have an IEP to help cater for his high reading ability. We are pleased as his teacher has admitted that she hasn't taught a child like him before and doesn't really know what to do with him. Do any of you have any experience of an IEP in this situation? Was it useful? How did it work? Thanks in advance for your help.

An IEP just identifies his needs and targets and gives a clue how they plan to meet them. If you have ideas then you can ask for them to be added on. IME an IEP is only as much use as the teacher who is supoposed to follow it.

Thanks, gigglinggoblin. We have a lot of faith in his teacher, so hopefully the IEP will be helpful.
