'Gifted and talented' 6 year old

Hello I'm new on here so here goes! My son is 6 and in year two of primary school. At the end of year 1 I was told he would be put on the G & T reg for reading and writing. I've seen his teachers for this year and was told they would speak to me about it, but nothing yet and there hasn't been a good time yet as one is the SENCO for the school and the other the Deputy Head so they are all over the place. My problem is that my son is now often crying about going to school, he's got lots of friends, is not being bullied, but eventually I got out of him that he is bored!! The school do not give him any extension work or encourage his 'gift' (I don't like the expression much). Am I wrong to expect more from the school? Before I approach the teachers I want to know what I'm talking about!

I honestly don't know. My son of similar age had always smeemed very good at working thing out to me. Science, language, general knowledge seem to come out above. His reading is average (but on his own seems to tuck into many stages of book) and his writing is shite but like the other boys the same age hates school and often cries before going in. They all have friends and are not being bullied. I really don't know.

Welcome Lou. I think there's no point waiting for it to be a 'good time' for the teachers; now is a good time, when your ds is starting to get turned off by school!!! Do make an appointment to see his teacher, and say it's urgent.

I'm afraid I don't know what being on the G & T register would actually mean in practice. Maybe you could look up the term on your local council's website, the education section would have an explanation of their duties with regard to this, I would think. I guess he should be getting extension work, as a minimum.

Don't put up with it, the school need to know how your ds is about school now. Good luck.

Apologies, thought I was on the general education forum . It seems to be a common problem among my sons friends atm.
