Gifted and talented

Feeling vindicated! Don't put off contacting your DC school. (Sorry a bit long)

Yr7 dd came home from school a few days ago very tearful. She was full of a cold but in the middle of her flood of tears she said she'd seen a poster with a list of yr7 science gifted pupils and she wasn't on it (she is absolutely passionate about science) normally I would have dismissed it but in her last assessment the highest they could get was 6b and she got 6b. Been thinking of contacting the school for a while this gave me the push.
Spoke to dd's learning manager he said they didn't put her in g&t cos her CAT score wasn't high enough at 109 and who told me she was gifted (her form teacher) I said but she's been getting top marks in maths and science (most other subjects too) he phoned back yesterday. He'd contacted the maths and science departments and she is now down as g and t for both. They were going only on her CAT score. But after speaking to dd turns out she was sat next to someone who sang all the way through! He was told off but he just sang quieter!
Learning manager was very angry about this gifted poster and promised to deal with it.
Didn't want to come across as a pushy mum so put off contacting the school. If anyone is thinking of contacting their dc's school do it now. they may have missed something.

I feel for your DD, why the frig do they need a poster with names on?!? I'd be furious. So unnecessary.

Yeah, I think the poster is a crap idea too.

Good for you though, OP. You did the right thing.
