So this is the first thread I'm starting on here. It is in reality a 2nd thread to follow up Zings Christmas drink more water challenge.

I drink far too much tea, and not enough water. When I increased my water intake for Zings challenge I felt loads better, my skin was much healthier and I felt good that I was benefiting my health.

So go and install the Hydro app on your phone's and join me for my water challenge!

southeastastra Tue 07-Jan-14 19:48:09

i watched a programme the other day where someone died from drinking too much water <brings down thread>

ghostinthecanvas Tue 07-Jan-14 19:56:12

How do you know what's in your food? Giving it a go tho.

ghostinthecanvas Tue 07-Jan-14 20:05:10

Just reread my own question. confused I meant the water content in food. Obviously. It asks on the app. blush

lil1ady Tue 07-Jan-14 20:38:13

You'd have to drink a heck of a lot of water to die from it south, and I drink sweet FA at the moment so I'm not worried!

ghost when I used it before I just guessed at 200ml...I kept it low to give me a higher target to drink. My target came out about 1.7l so I was happy with that. I don't eat alot of fresh fruit though so I figured I probably don't really get that much from my food? I wonder if Google could help us....

lil1ady Tue 07-Jan-14 20:41:28

Ok, so a quick check on Google suggests 20% of your water intake should come from your food. So if you're supposed to have 2litres of water a day, that would mean 400ml from food? Depends if you chomp lettuce and watermelon all day or chocolate and gin I suppose!

Minion Tue 07-Jan-14 21:02:49

I'm in lil, Ive chugged 5 glasses already today, downside... Best friends with the porcelain throne...
Ah we'll, needs must eh lil!

CosyTeaBags Tue 07-Jan-14 21:13:31

I'm in too Lil

Almost all of my water intake comes with a teabag steeped in it...

lil1ady Tue 07-Jan-14 21:30:09

min I had that when I first started but after a week or so I was weeing less again! hang in there, its for a good cause grin

cosy I'm the same...I've had 5 drinks like min but mine have all been tea. decaf tho wink

lil1ady Tue 07-Jan-14 21:47:04

ok so I've updated my hydro app and it says I need to drink 1.7l. I'm going to aim for 1.2l to start with and work my way up. I find starting with 200ml to take my vits starts me off well. I shall report back tomorrow grin

CosyTeaBags Wed 08-Jan-14 08:26:08

I couldn't find the Hydro app... can anyone point me in the right direction?

Making an effort, going to glug a glass of water now before leaving for work. (already had 1 cup of tea...)

I found a Drink More Water app is that it?

Drinking water is probably the right one?

ghostinthecanvas Wed 08-Jan-14 09:20:41

Lil I am more a chocolate and gin person! Thanks for the info. I am hoping to improve my memory by increasing my water intake. As well as all the other benefits.

lil1ady Wed 08-Jan-14 17:35:00

Hydro link for play store. if you are on iOS tho your on Ur own!

I have dine rubbish today, because being the snob I am I only drink bottled water and I left it at home! going to try at least 500ml tonight to get up to 700ml total today.

how's everyone else doing?

Nessalina Wed 08-Jan-14 20:31:19

Hey lil I'm in grin
Going to try for 1 litre a day to start with - I reckon that'll pet than double my current efforts!

fedup21 Wed 08-Jan-14 21:24:21

Does tea not count at all then? I've often wondered this? I know it has caffeine which makes you retain water but surely drinking tea is better at hydrating you than drinking nothing???

lil1ady Wed 08-Jan-14 22:00:09

hi fed there are different views on tea/coffee etc. for the purpose of this thread we are just counting water. tap, bottled, hot, cold, with a slice of lemon in, whatever works!

lil1ady Wed 08-Jan-14 22:01:36

How have you done today nessa? my extra 500ml bottle didn't happen! Might have a hot water with a slice of lemon now before I go bed. getting hungry because I'm dieting too so hopefully it will stem my cravings!

Nessalina Thu 09-Jan-14 08:54:38

I've filled up my bottle this morning, ready to go! Planning to drink one by lunchtime then refill! smile

CosyTeaBags Thu 09-Jan-14 09:09:56

I managed 4 big glasses yesterday, (plus 2 cups of tea and one herbal)

Kept a big glass of water at my desk and didn't even notice I was drinking it, it just went!

Minion Thu 09-Jan-14 09:53:43

I'm on 6 250ml glasses a day and strangely enough it's filled me right up. Couldn't even have lunch yesterday cause of it!
Sweeet!

lil1ady Thu 09-Jan-14 18:00:54

I've done 700ml today and dancing tonight so will def manage another 500minimum

Nessalina Thu 09-Jan-14 18:08:14

I suck! Not even finished one bottle confused My job makes drinking hard! If I drink all evening now I'll be peeing all night... This is trickier than expected!

Minion Thu 09-Jan-14 20:47:52

I literally cannot move more than 20ft from the loo. This is hard going. I've been about ten times today already. Grrr

lil1ady Thu 09-Jan-14 22:57:11

keep going min it will get easier, I promise!

ness remind me what your job is?

well I managed 1.2l today so feeling happy with that, but should have done more as I was dancing. when I was doing this for zings thread I was drinking 2.5l easy in a dancing day. not going to be too harsh on myself tho. it does take a couple of weeks to get into the habit of picking the bottle up...although apparently not for minion!!

Nessalina Fri 10-Jan-14 07:47:14

Poor Minion grin hehe! I know what you mean though, I made it to a litre, and I had to get my arse off the sofa twice during Silent Witness last night!
I'm a branch manager lil, but it's only a tiny branch so I'm busy most of the day, serving customers & opening accounts, forgetting to drink is very easy!
Right. I'm getting out of bed... Glass of water before I jump in the car!

lil1ady Fri 10-Jan-14 08:07:20

ahh that is tricky. ok so you need to get one of those funky water despensers out front, for the customers of course, so you can neck a cup every few customers through the day!

lil1ady Fri 10-Jan-14 18:58:14

got to 1.2l today.... now to top it up with wine!grin

I've been increasing my water intake for about a week or so, serious trips to the loo - good exercise though!

My skin feels fab, tmi but I'm on my period and always break out in spots but amazingly I have none at all. I'm even make up free it's seriously looks so much better. Can this really just be the water increase?

notundermyfoof Fri 10-Jan-14 19:49:35

I've just started doing this, got to 2l today! Is anyone else feeling bloated despite near constant peeing since upping their water intake? I think my body just hasn't realised that it doesn't need to hold on to all the water yet!

Nessalina Sat 11-Jan-14 00:02:08

Did ok today! Probably one litre. Does alcohol get knocked back off my total though?! wink

lil1ady Sat 11-Jan-14 15:14:36

ness if it does I'm in negatives for yesterday!

not doing well today, I've had about 50ml!

lil1ady Sat 11-Jan-14 23:25:19

so I made it to 350ml...why is this so hard!

echt Sun 12-Jan-14 06:20:33

Surely if you're getting up to pee so much, you're drinking more water than you need.

OP, if you're drinking tea, you're drinking water.

Minion Sun 12-Jan-14 07:49:30

Yeah, I think I am. However i'm used to drinking 1-2 glasses in the whole day so surely this is better for me in the long run.
Its eased off now, in fact yesterday I was gasping and that never happens.

lil1ady Sun 12-Jan-14 09:25:15

echt read the previous posts. its about drinking pure unadulterated water. I am quite aware tea is made with water, but you also add milk and teabag to it. for all you know I have 10 sugars in my tea. clearly water is the healthier choice regardless.

minion I'd forgotten that when I was doing this before I actually started to realise I was thirsty. must try harder today.

as for drinking too much, as long as your not drinking gallons an hour, I'd rather I was peeing more than dehydrated!

lil1ady Sun 12-Jan-14 09:28:00

hi notundermyfoof I've just realised I forgot to answer you. I do find I get a but bloated at first when upping the water but it got better. how are you getting on?

notundermyfoof Sun 12-Jan-14 11:12:31

Good thanks lil I'm only on day 3 but I'm finding it much easier already. I was really thirsty when I woke up this morning which has never happened before so I think maybe I was so used to being dehydrated I had stopped noticing the signs. I used to suffer frequent utis, headaches and constipation which are all linked to dehydration, most days I would drink nothing but tea and coffee! I've been googling increased water intake and found lots of promising stories so I'm determined to keep it up smile

700 mls and 2 coffees so far today.

lil1ady Sun 12-Jan-14 12:05:43

I've had a 250ml mug of hot water with lemon and my wake up cuppa and about to get the lemon out for another. cooking roast dinner and feeling very hungry!grin

Nessalina Sun 12-Jan-14 12:50:09

I managed a litre yesterday plus 2 teas and 3 pints of beer Peeing more definitely, but going to keep it up and try to increase levels this week! smile

lil1ady Sun 12-Jan-14 21:01:02

1litre today and going to have another 250ml in a mo...if I can persuade dh to get it for me!

notundermyfoof Sun 12-Jan-14 23:57:03

Another 2 litres today and I'm definitely feeling better for it! I read an article online in the daily fail about a woman who drank 3 litres of water a day for a month and her skin looked amazing by the end of the month so I've taken a picture of myself today to compare in a few weeks in case I need an incentive to carry on!

lil1ady Mon 13-Jan-14 09:07:33

ooh good plan not I definitely found drinking hot water easier yesterday so going to keep with that tact today and aim for 1.5l, then build up to 1.75l by the end of the week. I don't think I could manage 2l and hydro only calculates 1.7 for me.
I did have a sugar binge over the weekend. fell completely off the dieting wagon so need to crank it up today and get back on the healthy eating and start some exercise!

lil1ady Mon 13-Jan-14 16:56:31

up to 750ml. need to step it up to make 1.5l!

notundermyfoof Mon 13-Jan-14 23:48:07

Managed 2 litres again today but I'm not sure it was a good idea to down a pint of water right before heading to bed! How are you getting on lil ?

Nessalina Tue 14-Jan-14 00:20:10

Offset my half a bottle of red with a pint of water! Win! grin

lil1ady Tue 14-Jan-14 08:11:01

I got to 1.25 again not so not quit what I was aiming for but at least I didn't drop from the day before.

nessa grin

CosyTeaBags Tue 14-Jan-14 12:30:24

I'm still trying to keep up - I've been managing between 1.7 - 2l each day, a combination of water and hot water with ginger & lemon tea (is that allowed?)

I've also cut right down on my tea consumption - trying to limit it to 2 cups a day, followed by Redbush tea if I need any more.

I'm peeing lots, but I always do anyway. I'm finding that the water goes down much easier than I'd expected, helps when it's nice and cold.

I've tried to Google the recommended amount for women ttc - but I can't seem to find a consistent answer. Does anyone have any idea?

lil1ady Tue 14-Jan-14 15:48:46

I guess it would just be the normal recommended amount for a woman cosy but I guess it could change once pg?

I've done rubbish today. only 200ml. must go get another drink

lil1ady Tue 14-Jan-14 23:29:52

well I made it to 750ml in total today. been feeling pants though bad excuse promise I will try harder tomorrow

lil1ady Thu 16-Jan-14 08:14:31

got back up to about 1.3l yesterday grin will probably do rubbish today as I'll be at my mums all day drinking lots of tea!

notundermyfoof Sat 18-Jan-14 09:24:48

How's everyone doing? I've been mostly managing 2l a day and feeling much better for it. I'm really thirsty when I wake up in the mornings these days so I've been downing a pint of water as soon as I get up which helps me get a head start on the water intake and stops me pigging out at breakfast. I've lost 3lbs since I started doing this and my skin looks a lot smoother smile

lil1ady Sat 18-Jan-14 11:48:16

well done not I seem to be doing ok one day then bad the next. o far today 2teas and a latte, but no water. I'll have a cup when I get home blush

CosyTeaBags Sat 18-Jan-14 18:15:26

I've OD'd on the caffeine today, and have a headache to show for it.

I've been managing 2L most days, or rather about 1.8l of pure water, and the rest made up with fruit teas.

I too have been waking up thirsty Notunder, it seems like the more your body gets the more it wants?

I have also noticed (TMI alert) a big increase in CM this cycle. I usually get a good dose of the stuff but not until later in my cycle. Been EWCMing early this month.. interesting.

Keep up the good work!

lil1ady Sat 18-Jan-14 22:30:32

750ml today. I'm useless! glad u guys are doing better, and noticing the benefits too!

CosyTeaBags Mon 20-Jan-14 10:16:01

Get it down the hatch lil!!

Go and grab a glass of water, and just gulp it all down while you're still standing at the sink. There's 400ml done in a few seconds.

I have really noticed a difference in my CM this month by the way, (not sure if this is the thread to be talking about that, as we're just talking about drinking water for health benefits not necessarily ttc)

lil1ady Mon 20-Jan-14 16:45:31

Sorry gang, i've switched out the hardcore water for lemsip sad

cosy i would say its a health benefit smile

CosyTeaBags Mon 20-Jan-14 16:58:22

Ooh poor you lil - Lemsip is still good though.

And if you need more but have reached your max dose, hot honey and lemon is lovely too.

Hope you feel better soon.

lil1ady Tue 21-Jan-14 09:41:15

thanks cosy. well if you count black tea lemsip and water I drank 2l yesterday! but only 500ml was real water. not sure why but the thought of milk in my tea was not a nice one yesterday. I only have a splash anyway so to go to black was not a major switch, but I've really enjoyed it. might make it permanent. does decaf tea still have antioxidants in?

CosyTeaBags Thu 23-Jan-14 10:38:59

No idea re decaf...

I always go off milk in my tea when I have a cold too, makes me feel sick. 2l is great, even if it was in hot drinks that's all still going to the right place.

As I wrote on the JSing thread, thanks to you starting this thread I really have drunk loads more than usual and am really feeling the benefits, IYKWIM

Saznut Thu 23-Jan-14 12:18:23

hi water people. I have made tge effort for a week now (since af started) gave been having 400 ml grapefruit juice and about 1.5l water. trued to stop caffeine but failed thus morn with a cuppa tea, but 1 shouldn't dry me up right? im doing it for the pant snot. I suffer allergies in the office I work and usually take antihistamines to combat it, but have stopped as I hear it dries everything up!! so now plenty of nose snot but none for pants. maybe too early as d7?
haven't really noticed any other changes or benefits feom all this water, but will stick to it.
Good luck ladies.
I find a 500ml bottle which I fill up from office water cooler is how I am managing it.

lil1ady Thu 23-Jan-14 17:25:00

I definitely find a bottle easier but that was when I was at work. much harder at home. cold nearly clearing up so will get back on the water soongrin

lil1ady Fri 24-Jan-14 23:29:54

I just drank a 500ml bottle of water. really fancied it all of a sudden. hopefully that's a good sign that I'll be able to get back on track now. my skin is awful so I really need to puck up the pace. cold almost gone now so no excuse!

lil1ady Sat 25-Jan-14 12:57:28

so far so good, 500ml done this morning
grin

lil1ady Sun 26-Jan-14 00:13:46

1.25l today. must try and keep it up tomorrow now! how's everyone else doing?

lil1ady Sun 26-Jan-14 23:45:41

1l done today....where are you all?

CosyTeaBags Tue 28-Jan-14 10:21:01

I think I've been managing a good 1.8-2L a day, but it varies.

I'm definitely finding it easier to drink more water - yesterday in work I guzzled 4 large glasses no problem, whereas I usually manage one with lots of tea.

Having said that I've had none this morning, so I'll sort that out right now!

Thanks for this thread Lil it's really encouraged me.

lil1ady Tue 28-Jan-14 15:29:17

hi cosy glad its spurring you on. I'm struggling to get going with it today. none so far bit ilk get a 500ml bottle out... after I finish this cuppa!

notundermyfoof Wed 29-Jan-14 00:52:02

I've been rubbish the last few days, managed about 500mls at most! I seem to be so much better if I just down a pint at a time so I will start again tomorrow with a pint before breakfast. Well done lil and cosy!

lil1ady Wed 29-Jan-14 08:55:14

come on not you can do it! I did get my 1l done yesterday but had the last gulps after midnight. not ideal....must try harder today. I'm going to try for 1.25l today. gl grin

CosyTeaBags Wed 29-Jan-14 11:44:51

You can do it not and well done lil for the 1l.

I can't cope with a whole pint, so I just drink 400ml glasses. I'll fill it with really cold water and guzzle as much as I can whilst standing at the sink, then top it up again to take with me. That way, you sneak a bit more water in before your body realizes!

I have definitely found myself feeling more thirsty, as if my body is getting used to having more, and so wants more, more more!!!

lil1ady Wed 29-Jan-14 22:41:36

YES! 1.25l done grin

lil1ady Fri 31-Jan-14 22:19:36

500ml yesterday but back to 1l today grin

CosyTeaBags Sun 02-Feb-14 00:13:51

I've slipped a bit, had about 1l each day, but also had too much tea, and a few beers, so that's probably wiped out any good effects of the extra water!

On the plus side, I've discovered Camomile tea isn't as disgusting as I had imagined, so that's good.

lil1ady Fri 07-Feb-14 22:21:36

I'm rubbish. been doing 509ml a day Max sad

lil1ady Fri 07-Feb-14 22:21:54

no not as good as 509, just 500!
