Me & DH were chatting and realised that neither of us had ever suffered a broken bone, and it got me wondering if that was unusual...
Are all your bones intact, and if not, why not?! shock

usualsuspect Sun 22-Dec-13 22:59:33

I broke my wrist as a child, jumping off a table.

YouAreMySunShine271 Sun 22-Dec-13 23:00:35

Drunk trying to have a piggy back and jumped straight over the top!

cupcakeicing Sun 22-Dec-13 23:01:47

Not me but DS when he was 8 he broke his 5th metatarsal in his left foot playing scooby doo. I was in the room and heard the crack.

TheRobberBride Sun 22-Dec-13 23:02:42

I broke my leg in two places while rollerblading aged about 14. Worst pain ever. Childbirth was a breeze in comparison.

Belize Sun 22-Dec-13 23:03:55

Broke my collar bone falling off a horse aged 13/14.

FunkyBoldRibena Sun 22-Dec-13 23:05:13

Smashed elbow to pieces, was like a bag of marbles apparently. Still can't straighten it 8 years later. Worst experience of my life, that.

Longdistance Sun 22-Dec-13 23:05:24

I thought I'd done good not breaking any bones in 37 years of my life, and could never envisage it ever happening...until this year I slipped down the stairs and spectacularly broke my tib and fib in three places.

I ended up with two metal plates either side of my right leg with the total of 19 screws inside. It took me well over 6 months to be anywhere near normal again. I still limp.

VivaLeBeaver Sun 22-Dec-13 23:05:46

I broke my back in a climbing accident.
Broke my pelvis in a climbing accident
Broke my leg skiing
Broke my neck in a freak accident while skiing but it wasn't actually a ski accident. A huge pile of snow fell off a hotel roof from four floors up and landed on me.
Broke my toe kick boxing.
Broke all the toes on my other foot when a horse trod on it.
Fractured my skull falling off a horse
Broke a rib coughing when I had pleurisy.

VivaLeBeaver Sun 22-Dec-13 23:07:42

I've had loads more accidents which haven't involved fractures.

I jumped off the roof of the student union building many years ago and impaled my leg on a tree.

I've been rescued unconscious and close to death by a mountain rescue team after been lost in a snow storm for hours and nearly drowned in a river.

kelper Sun 22-Dec-13 23:09:23

I broke my wrist when I was 7 racing a boy down my road. I was on a bike and he was running. I crashed into a huge, knocked two teeth out, and broke my wrist.
I also broke a finger playing basketball.
I've been horse riding since I was 6 and am amazed I've never broken anything doing that ;)

kelper Sun 22-Dec-13 23:09:48

hedge not huge!

ImaginativeNewName Sun 22-Dec-13 23:09:53

Viva you should just stay at home where it's safe! You know, very carefully. grin

Nessalina Sun 22-Dec-13 23:10:33

Wow Beaver. I bet you still live to 90 though grin

Skogkat Sun 22-Dec-13 23:10:41

I broke my nose running head first into a table when I was about four. I was drunk on sugar or something and I remember wanting to hug the table hmm

My brother accidentally broke my collar bone by pushing me down some stairs.

He broke my leg and both my arms by the above (^)
(I was five, he was five and eleven months and we were playing a stupid game together).

I once broke three bones in my ear by falling on my side when playing goalkeeper with the DC!

VivaLeBeaver Sun 22-Dec-13 23:11:04

grin

For a while I refused to go out on the day of Eurovision after spending three consecutive Eurovisions in hospital due to accidents.

Broken my toe twice in different places. I think I chipped a bone in my finger about five weeks ago when I shut it in the car door.

usualsuspect Sun 22-Dec-13 23:13:18

Oh and I broke one of my toes by dropping a Hoover on my foot.

Viva wins the thread though grin

LulaPalooza Sun 22-Dec-13 23:14:00

Ex-bf broke 3 of my ribs by accident, he sat on me and held me down when I had a seizure. Same ex broke my nose by accident during sex!

I broke my wrist falling on the ice a few winters ago. I've also chipped a bone in my elbow. I fell over whilst drunk blush

CantaSlaus Sun 22-Dec-13 23:14:50

Bloody hell Vica how are you still alive? You must haves bloody good guardian angel!

I fractured my wrist rollerblading down a subway ramp. Couldn't stop and got faster and faster and sort of turned and crashed into the wall. Not sure if it was the wall or the floor tht fractured my wrist though!

DH broke his ankle skateboarding. His parents didn't believe him and made him walk round Scarborough for a day before finally taking him to hospital!

FarelyKnuts Sun 22-Dec-13 23:14:55

Nasty fucker man broke my wrist age 7 twisting my arm to stop me running away
Broke my collarbone falling off a horse age 13
Broke my scaphoid age 14, 15 and 33- playing basketball for the first two and trapping my wrist in a fire door for the last one

CantaSlaus Sun 22-Dec-13 23:15:15

Viva stupid auto correct!

DuchessofKirkcaldy Sun 22-Dec-13 23:17:47

Broke my nose age 14 when my 10 year old brother punched me. (many years later he is still apologetic!)
Broke my little toe on Chhristmas eve 3 years ago, stubbed it on wooden foot on setee.
Broke one of the small bones in my foot at a christmas party when a drunkfriend stood on it in heels.

FarelyKnuts Sun 22-Dec-13 23:21:32

Forgot about having my nose broken by my overenthusiastic baby cousin bouncing on my knee and throwing his head back laughing grin

SidandAndyssextoy Sun 22-Dec-13 23:22:18

Broke my collarbone on a Butlins water flume.
Broke my foot slipping on Take a Break.

Nessalina Sun 22-Dec-13 23:27:16

Anyone out there not broken any bones?

MirandaWest Sun 22-Dec-13 23:28:10

I broke a bone in my little toe playing football bare foot. About a week before I got married I think.

Leg, car crash when I was five. I probably should be dead, but my mum had just shouted at me to sit still (before seatbelts) so I was sulking in the back seat. 10 seconds earlier I would have gone through the windscreen.

IamtheZombie Sun 22-Dec-13 23:35:40

Zombie broke her wrist when she was 8. She was freewheeling down her grandparents' gravel driveway and applied the brakes in a patch of gravel. Big mistake.

She broke her big toe by running into the leg of the washing machine.

She then broke the same wrist when she was 14 after being knocked over playing basketball in PE.

The best one is the time she broke her nose playing tackle frisbee at 3 in the morning when she was at uni.

Sarahplane Sun 22-Dec-13 23:40:51

I broke my 5th metatarsal falling off a kerb when I was 18. I told my boyfriend at the time that it couldn't be broken because I'd never broken a bone and I didn't intend to start now.

JollySantersSelectionBox Sun 22-Dec-13 23:48:01

Broke my humerus on a skiing holiday.

I was taking off one ski and got knocked flat by someone out of control.

My friends had gone to a bar. I was taken down to hospital in a lift. Had no documents on me, so they made me swipe my credit card before administering morphine the heartless barstewards.

Spiral fracture. Eight hour operation and a metal bar/screws. Damaged my nerve and had to have a hand brace. Huge scar as they had to really open up the arm. 20 staples.

I can't watch the You've Been Framed snow accidents - they make me feel really nauseous and sweaty. blush

goodasitgets Sun 22-Dec-13 23:51:41

How long have you got?! grin
Spectacularly, by falling down 40 stairs (and not hitting any on the way down), I landed sat on the edge of the bottom step with my ankle under me. Open fracture foot and ankle and snapped ligaments

Very unspectacular. Foot hurt for a week. Went to x ray. Ankle and foot broken in 3 places. No idea how hmm

Cheekbone and eye socket. Assaulted (punched in face)

Foot (again) horse trod on me

Viva doesn't just win the thread, she wins the jeffing Internet.

I've broken my left arm and wrist 3 times
1. Falling off playground slide age 8 - very bad break, needed a general anaesthetic and a week in hospital.
2. Falling off bike, age 16
3. Snowboarding accident, age 28 or so

Many, many broken toes and fingers.

CrazyHamstersbigbaubles Sun 22-Dec-13 23:59:34

I currently have a broken toe though I ain't a clue how it happened fhmm

busylizzie76 Mon 23-Dec-13 00:02:36

Broken elbow aged 5 falling whilst doing monkey swing on climbing frame

madamginger Mon 23-Dec-13 00:02:43

I broke all eight fingers playing basket ball with my cousin when I was 14. The hospital taped my fingers together and my friends spent weeks taking the piss because I looked like I was doing the Vulcan salute from star trek!

I also broke my wrist when I was 17 on a drunken night out after I slipped on a spilt drink.

madamginger Mon 23-Dec-13 00:06:18

I also broke my ankle falling off a ladder but as I was 8 months pregnant the hospital wouldn't xray it and now it's healed wrong and hurts if i wear heels sad

CointreauVersial Mon 23-Dec-13 00:11:41

This thread is making me feel slightly ill.

Just the one break here - wrist. Age 8, was trying to jump forwards off a swing as it reached the high point. Didn't time it right, and fell off backwards.

Neither DH nor any of my DCs have ever broken anything.

Mrsantithetic Mon 23-Dec-13 00:12:52

I broke my big toe about 6 months ago falling down the last six stairs and kicking the baby gate.

Did the exact same thing to the exact same toe 3 months ago.

Bloody hate that baby gate.

Seabright Mon 23-Dec-13 00:21:13

Lots of broken bones!

Broke same wrist three times, falling downstairs (sober each time) & various other thumb/hand bones too

Metatarsal & various other foot bones when DP dropped an enormous ikea flat-pack on my foot, corner down (as painful as it sounds)

Think my DD broke my nose last night, when she head butted me. A big cracking sound, saw stars & a very, very sore nose, which now makes a cracking noise move it from side to side.

On the plus side, it seems a bit straighter now, after I cracked last time, falling off a log-bridge thing when I was a guide.

scurryfunge Mon 23-Dec-13 00:22:17

Fractured femur and skull -RTC aged 3 and smashed tib, fib, dislocated ankle aged 41 (assault ).

PatriciaHolm Mon 23-Dec-13 00:23:22

Never broken a proper bone . Did a tail bone years ago but that is a mere detail against a proper break ...

shouldnthavesaid Mon 23-Dec-13 09:27:14

Broke my leg on the stairs..
Broke my foot on the stairs.

LaVolcan Mon 23-Dec-13 10:31:50

I broke my leg when I was seven by tripping over an untied shoelace, (and obviously falling awkwardly) onto a tiled floor. I don't remember it hurting - I just couldn't put any weight on it.

CMOTDibbler Mon 23-Dec-13 11:05:23

Didn't break anything, in fact had never even been to A&E or minor injuries until I was 37.

Then I fell off my horse and landed on my hand. Broke 7 bones in my hand, dislocated the bones in it, ripped the long bones in my forearm apart, broke my elbow and ripped through a nerve.

It doesn't work now.

Leverette Mon 23-Dec-13 13:34:13

Broken nose twice; ran into a lamppost when I was 3 and had a rounders ball to the face when I was 10.

Broke my wrist playing netball at 14, finished the game and put up with the pain for a week until it went blue and mum realised something was wrong.

Smashed my coccyx 5 years ago, dog pulled me over onto a flat, wet stone and my feet were suddenly up in front of my face like a comedy banana skin accident.

mousmous Mon 23-Dec-13 13:39:39

broken foot - fell dow the stairs and had the choice of thowing baby against the wall or falling badly.
broken rib - from a coughing fit, man that hurt
broken pinkie toe - stubbed it on a post playing volleyball.
broken skull - fell off changing table as a baby

NorbertDentressangle Mon 23-Dec-13 14:06:15

I managed to avoid breaking anything until in my mid 40s when I broke my ankle simply by going over on it when I missed my footing on a step.

TinselinaBumSquash Mon 23-Dec-13 14:07:54

I've broken many, many bones.

All silly childhood accidents, wrestling with friends, climbing trees, ball to the face etc etc..

Calabria Mon 23-Dec-13 14:08:06

Broke a toe kicking an immovable object while getting out of a hotel bed to attend to the baby.

Same baby, slightly older, broke my nose with her head while on my lap on a plane.

She's nine now and I'm never going to let her forget it fgrin

ben5 Mon 23-Dec-13 14:10:01

I broke my toe when I kicked the running machinegrin!!

FeetUpUnitilChristmas Mon 23-Dec-13 14:33:23

Broke wrist aged 5 jumping down the last 3 stairs, didn't really hurt.
Brother broke my nose when I was about 14, finally had it fixed 30 years later

DD broke wrist snowboarding on her second day, nothing like the feeling if dread when the ski patrol called me to say she had had an accident and was being rescued from the mountain, can I meet them at the medical centre. We had to pay up front (Canada) before they would start treatment.

Following year I didn't go on the family ski trip (I'm medically unable to participate) got a call from DP on day 1, she'd only gone and done it again. Spent the rest of the holiday in the hotel suite whilst her dad and sister skied.

She will be going again this year but will be on skis, no more boards for her.

FeetUpUnitilChristmas Mon 23-Dec-13 14:35:28

Sorry to answer your original question Neither my sister or brother have broken a bone and both are late 30's

ConfusedDotty Wed 01-Jan-14 17:42:41

I managed to make it into my forties without any broken bones, but I am currently sat here with a shattered femur and knee cap. I now have a leg full of titanium and screws.

This happened in August and I am still not allowed to put any weight on that leg. I will have a future op sometime this month for bone grafts and then another 8 months recovery.

I fell down marble stairs (sober) whilst abroad. It ever so slightly ruined my holiday.

muchadoaboutsomething Wed 01-Jan-14 17:51:22

I broke a toe walking into a bookcase, a finger playing volleyball, and then my humerous when I fell off a bike into a fence. However my dh, sister , mum and dad have never broken anything. Breaking my arm was by far the most painful thing I've done much more painful than childbirth. Also made my realise just how ill gas and air makes me.

Polyethyl Wed 01-Jan-14 18:02:26

An American helicopter pilot decided to ignore the clearly marked helipad and land on the road outside my hut. He made his descent above my hut - the down draft off his rotor blades tore my door of its hinges and threw it through the air hitting me on the back. The projecting door handle broke my rib.
My comrades tested my level of responsiveness by waving Cadburys under my nose. For the next few weeks they took it in turns to perform personal comedy skits for me in order to make me laugh.
Laughing with a broken rib is shriekingly painful. They found this entertaining.

I've been run over three times confused broke my right collar bone (twice), both arms, both legs and fractured my skull. I also broke my arm falling off a potty as a child. And broke the same arm playing as an older child shock

Mumrose Wed 01-Jan-14 18:10:03

All my bones intact so far!! Touchwood smile
DH broke his leg a decade ago after falling from his motorcycle in India
