I joined a couple of weeks ago and have found it very good. I know the lady that takes it and she lost about 3-4 stone in about 7 months. They have to have done the diet to be able to take the class. Another friend of mine lost 4 stone and then became pregnant before reaching her target, but wants to start again as soon after the birth as she can. I've got 1 1/2 stone to lose

How does it work? Is this the red day green day diet?s

Report
Girly · 30/06/2003 13:04

Yes Sambo, have yet to find out, but think Green is veg and carbs and red is meat day, tho don't know how many green v red days you need.

Is there a brown day for chocolate?

Report
Furball · 30/06/2003 13:14

You can have whatever 'day' you fancy, so if you were going to a BBQ it would be best to have an 'original' (re-named from red) day. But if you wanted baked potato and baked beans for lunch have a 'green' day. It's very flexible, you can have measured amounts of meat on green and carby stuff on red. All fruit, veg and eggs are 'free food' So if on a red opps sorry an original day you fancied eating 10 chickens and 5 pork chops, thats fine. And if on a green day you wanted 20 potatos (You can make 'sin free' chips) and 5 tins of baked beans and 25 tins of spagetti and 5 cups of rice thats fine too.

You are also allowed 'sins' everyday - usually about 10, so if you wanted a biscuit or a dollop of that and a sploge of this you deduct it from your allowance - great.

Thanks Furball, sounds quite good, but suppose this means the weight comes off slowly?
I was going to do Atkins, but have gallstones so thats a no go.

This seems quite healthy, so lets see...

Furball that sounds great, can you drink alcohol? I am on the Atkins at the moment for a bit of quick weight loss before my dd's christening party, but don't want to carry on as it doesn't seem v healthy long term. This sounds like the sort of thing you can do long term. If, of course, you are allowed some alcohol!

Report
Furball · 30/06/2003 13:35

Yep alcohol is allowed but you have to 'sin' it - you could save a few sins each day and have abit of a blitz at the weekend!

I too tried the Atkins (too mundane!)and apparently the weight comes off just as quick on both, apart from the initial two week induction on the Atkins obviously.

Have alook at their website for more info/ideas etc.

Lambchops · 30/06/2003 13:36

Sambo, you are allowed alcohol. You are allowed up to 15 sins per day which is absolutely anything you want so you can have alcohol, chocolate,or pickled snorkak eggs if you want.

Report
SamboM · 30/06/2003 13:46

What on earth is a snorkak egg?

Is one sin a glass of wine?

Report
Crunchie · 30/06/2003 14:14

SamboM, one glass of wine is 5 sins (but that is a measured amount, and who can be faffed!). Therefore what I do is have a bottle a week (30 sins) and if I want a good weekend, I'll drink the lot. Otherwise I may have a decent sized glass a couple of times a week. This leave 40 sins for all the other stuff, but I think you have to make the choice between wine or chocolate, having both means only a tiny bit of chocolate. Things like Jaffa cakes or chocolate fingers are quite good as they give a real chocolate fix for about 2 - 21/2 sins each. However who can stop at just a couple???

If anyone wants any help on this, I know it inside out (having done it very sucesfully) and can often answer those odd questions.

The website has a sins online section which is fab, so my Tip for the day it don't eat anything you don't know the sin value of!

I joined slimming world last Thursday, started dieting Friday and have lost 3 lbs already. You're not supposed to weigh yourself between the weekly sessions but I did!

As long as you plan ahead it is very simple and I am never hungry. I am not normally a big meat eater but I thought I'd stick to the Orginal/red plan for a week to see what effect it has. So far so good.

I bought their directory which tells you the sin values of supermarket products and there are quite a few Sainsburys/Tesco ready meals that are sin-free.

Looking forward to my weigh in on Thirsday am.

Girly, I put on 2.5 lbs on my first week at Slimming World. A month later I was still the same weight and gave it up. I think it works very well for lots of people but perhpas not all of us. I did mostly green days and ate horrendous amounts (much more than I ususally would), I stuffed food in because the diet said I could. Maybe that's the wrong attitude! Despite putting weight on, I would do SW again as it is a healthy way of eating, lots of nice low-fat stuff and enough alcohol to keep me happy. If I try it again, I would do more original days as I dont think unlimited carbs works for me.

Girly, I lost nearly two stone in about eight weeks at the begining of the year on the Slimming World diet (green days only as veggie). Found it really good... slipped out of it following personal crisis. Haven't put it back on but still need to loose more weight... so will join you.

The more the merrier winnie2!

Perhaps we should have a weekly weigh in here too, for those who cannot make the class or who are doing it by post? Or just to keep us all going strong

What do you think ladies?

My class is at 7pm this evening, so will post later.

Can I join in too? Have just read this thread. I'm a big fan of Slimming World, after birth of DS I went down 3 dress sizes in 7 months, even lost weight over Christmas without being miserable and drinking plenty. They also include extra allowances if you're breastfeeding which is great. Then I got pregnant with DD and have put it all back on and more besides.

I still have all the books and magazines so have been meaning to put myself back on it for some time and you lot have spurred me on. July 1st seems a good day to start, although it's 7pm here now and I hear a large glass of dry white calling me from the fridge. Perhaps tomorrow.
