Watery 'thin' period

claireybee · 25/07/2009 20:58

My period this month is really strange, it came bang on time and felt like normal but it's really watery. The blood is bright red but looks almost like it's been mixed with water and thinned down. I'm leaking out of mooncup despite it not being full (mooncup has NEVER leaked for me before) and am soaking a pad as well, the blood is red on the pad but then kind of spreads out to leave a watermark. Every now and then I feel a gush and more comes out.

My last few periods have been fairly light and the blood has been mainly in clots-this month there have been no clots so far (day 3).

Any idea why this could be? Is it normal? (haven't had that many periods over the past few years so can't really remember how they used to be)

Have you done a pregnancy test?

Also are you perimenopausal, your periods can be weird during the year before the menopause.

Finally it's worth saying that for six months after your periods come back post birth - which for me is just recently after a three plus year gap for pregnancies and breastfeeding - they are very weird and unpredictable!!!!

But it does sound like a pregnancy bleed rather than a period to me - sorry! Perhaps you could do a test?

No haven't tested but I am 99.9% sure that I couldn't even be pregnant.

I hope I'm not perimenopausal, am only 28!

Maybe it's just strange breastfeeding period...

i notice this was last year, just wondering what ur result was, and if it might have been hormonal eg. pill or implant.

i ask because this is happening exactly the same to me, although i am using the implanon contraceptive implant which has done some weird things to me already so i figured it might have been something to do with that.

i'm only 25 so my research of early menopause was alarming but kind of not plausable in my mind, it's only been 4 days so i haven't had it checked out cos my implanon weirdness usually sorts itself out in a few days, however i would like to know what u found about your situation, as mine is so alike

hopefully it all worked out fine

Hi harrigeorge
I was hoping you'd had a response.
My periods have been strange in the last 3 months but only bothered me this month when those exact gushing and watery symptoms occured, now I have just started my 2nd period only 2 weeks after the last one started.
I've had pain using tampons since my cycle started again 10 months ago and a failed smear due to excruciating pain before that.

With no sex since February (that was the only time since conceving DS in 2008!) I am 100% not pregnant. I know I should go back to the nurse but how do you justify the time!
Hope you're sorted out.
X

I am also 3 days into a VERY watery, BRIGHT red period, with far less cramping than usual. I have endometriosis, but this is not a normal period for me, despite that. I've also had a suspicion that I might have some kind of ovarian cyst for the last few months, and was thinking maybe it ruptured with this period, but I've heard that that's usually associated with extreme pain, which I don't have. I'd love to know what the OP ended up finding out...

Ok, I see this is an old post but here is my senereo. I had my period 2x in February, but not sure why, but this seems to happen to me every year on the shortest month of the year, so I didn't think much of it, but now again I have had it twice in March. On top of that, my period is very watery. I usually bleed hard, but this is so watery, with gushes. I am 37 years old. I had had hot flashes since I was 28. My mom went through menopause at 43, so not sure if it's perimenopauseal stuff, or what.

Hi everyone, anybody got answers? Watery thin period, heavy w/clots?

I'm 28. 1yr 8mos married. No child. My average monthly cycle is 30days (28-34days). PMS always present. Every period 3-5days only my entire history.

Previous 2 periods is different. 8-days long, no PMS. First 3days, brown discharge, 4-6 days dark red med-heavy flow, 7-8th day brown discharge. I felt lower abd is tight.

Then 10days after last day of period came my period again. 3-days, dark red, med-heavy flow. No PMS. I still feel tight on lower abd. On 1st day of period i got really sick w/c lasted 3weeks. (1st wk weak & fever/2ndwk strep throat/ 3rd wk cold & cough)..

After 34 days I got my period (now on 2nd day). No PMS. Lower abd still tight & full. I feel cramps on scattered area, mostly middle left part. just small area like 1x1 inch when it cramp.
My 1st day was heavy but pale red color & there was clear jelly-like discharge w/the blood. no clots.
2nd day was still heavy flow, bright red but loose/thin mixed with water-like loose jelly not thick. With big pale red round clot (one time) then little dark red bloot clots afterwards. It was red blood mixed with water-jelly but loose and thin...

Any past experience like mine? Normal?

I found this answer

"Pale Blood, Watery or thin menstruation"

"Pale pink, thin blood traditionally signifies poor blood quality which can be enriched by using blood building herbs, hormone balancing, and increasing circulation. Eating a healthy diet will also be beneficial"

I actually gained 4pounds since last month.. My abd feels tight & full,, is that where the fats go first? I'm curious maybe true.. It's just diet then..

I noticed that most who has this are in their 20's or 30's, my daughter just told me that she had a period that is all watery and ran down her leg when she went to take a bath, first time this ever happened, she's only 17, is it supposed to happen at her age or is there something else wrong? She is very worried about it.

Hey guys, I'm having the same issues here. Watery, heavy reddish brown on the last day of my period. I think it could be:

-I've been drinking a LOT of water recently.
-I took my first pill of this month yesterday so it's probably making my period look weird. This happens occasionally.

For me, if I start to experience strange or severe pain or if this occurs for 3 or more days, I'll go to a doctor. Otherwise, the rest of my period was normal and the brown color is not that unusual. I'd suggest if any of these factors apply to you, don't worry. And if you it does occur for longer or there's pain, get it checked out. Better safe than sorry!

Also forgot to mention I'm 21 and I am sexually active. These might help you guys too.

Does anyone else think it is disgusting and worrying that as females we are not taught more in depth about our bodies as females instead only the basics of a period and sex. The fact that we are on here desperate to find a answer because of a age to our bodies.

I am experiencing a watery red period right now, my last period only lasted two days. I took two tests both came back negative about two weeks after my two day period and now I am currently on my period thats red and watery.

I went to my doctors due to pains not that long ago and they said it was my period pains even though I wasn't due for 8 days. I was basically pushed out the door. I ended up going Hospital the pain was that bad and they told me it was urine infection even though no tests for a urine was taken...so hopefully I will get more help from this .

I have been taking ibuprofen quite regularly, even though I hate it, until I can get to a dentist to have this tooth pulled. My period was five days late and now it's super thin and watery. There's absolutely no chance of pregnancy since abstinence is the best birth control. Lol. But could the ibuprofen be causing this?

The thread might be 8 years old but it is asking for advice about a medical ailment. I think it's entirely reasonable to resurrect.

Hey so I'm 22 and have been going through this EXACT problem. No chance of pregnancy due to abstinence and not on any sort of hormone altering substances or meds at all.
Though I did donate blood two weeks ago since I'm O- and the Red Cross was about ready to break down my door after that hurricane hit. But yeah, my period skipped 2 months again (it does that) and it's mostly been watery with the occasional fleshy clump here and there. I hope nothing ruptured and that it's just because I went back to working over 40 hours a week.
