Can anyone help, I haven't had af since the birth of ds. Was diagnised with poly cystic ovaries before conception but never went this long without period. Any ideas on how to kick start my periods again?

How old is your ds and did/do you breastfeed?

Report
clary · 30/03/2005 16:50

yeah how long is it? I breastfed and went for a year after ds1 was born.

well 9 months is not unheard of (fwiw it was 6 months with dd and i think about 8-9 mths with ds2) but I was b/feeding all of them so assumed that was why. Not sure if it is unusual if you are bottle feeding...
maybe mears can help (she knows everything )

oh sorry ojsmum, Mears is a wonderful midwife who gives MN-ers some loveley and wise and caring advice.
Haven't seen her online for a bit but she always seems to have helpful advice on matters like this.

Thanks for that, nice to know that 9 months is not that unusual.

My periods don't come back until my babies are 18months old, so enjoy! I've got about 5 months of freedom left.

mtmml - you lucky thing. I managed 14 months with ds, about 9 with dd.

I'm hoping now that I've stated it publically it doesn't decide to return early and upset me.

I bfd for 5 - 6 months and didn't have a period until about 7 weeks after I had completely finished bfing.Make the most of it!

I went 13 months after dd, and was gutted when they came back - I was used to only having one or two periods a year, and since they came back they have been every four weeks as regular as clockwork. Make the most of it, ojsmum, they'll be back with a vengeance!

Not looking forward to the return becuase i've heard that the first one is a real whats it. Not sure if the PCOS was affecting it b4 DS I used to go for 8 weeks but never this long. Will hopefully be back on track again soon not that I necessarily want any more babies

ojsmum - I would expect your period to return fairly soon since you have not been breastfeeding since December. Are you using any method for contraception? Mirena coil and depoprovera can stop periods. Don't rely on not having them meaning that you can't conceive ATM.

Have been to gyno and he has given me a progesterone test. Need to take pills for 5 days to see if my periods return. not too keen on havingthe coil. Not planning on having any more kids for a while. ho

my ds is 8.5 months and I haven't had a period yet either! I still breast feed at night and 1-2 times in the day. Its funny tho, because everyone else in my antenatal group got theirs months ago, even those who breast feed more than me. I do like not having them, but am always worried it will catch me unawares - its like being 13 again - never knowing when its going to start!
