I've posted about this on a thread about homebirth as the woman was told she shouldn't have a home birth because of it but wondered if anyone had any info on this ondition.

At 20 week scan was told baby had a polycystic kidney but no infor mation other thanpossibility of high blood pressure later in life was give. Does anyone know anything about this condition in newborns?

I was told at my 20 week scan that my ds1 had a multicystic kidney.
I don't know if it is the same thing or not, but I was told that eventually the cystic kidney would shrivell away (which it now has) & his other kidney would be larger than normal, to kind of make up for the fact that he has only 1.
He had antibiotics for a while after he was born, to prevent urine infections & had a cystiagram at 5 months to rule out infection.
He had scans up until the age of 3, to check that the cystic kidney was shrivelling as it should be.
He is now 5 & other than tonsil probs ( which is obviously nothing to do with his kidney!) he is a healthy little boy, who is no longer having to see anyone about his kidney.
I have been told the blood pressure thing too, but also told that it should not effect him in life atall & that lots of people have only 1 kidney & don't even realise it!
Hope that helps!

Btw, I can't see why it would stop u having a home birth.

My mum had half of a kidney removed when she was about 35 after a cyst was discovered on it. That never caused her any problems and we used to love looking at the scar (and the csection one too). She did have high blood pressure later in life though.

Have you not been referred to see anyone else?
I saw a peadiatrition before ds1 was born, just 4 reassurance.
