Ive got pains in my stomach

tammybear · 15/11/2004 20:48

Have been trying to keep my mind off it by posting on here, texting dp, washing up etc etc but its getting too much. Ive had this pain in my stomach since this afternoon. I dont know what started it. I had something to eat, when into my car, and whilst i was driving, this pain just came on in my stomach and hasnt gone away since. Have been taking nureofen (sp?) I try sitting in different positions like lying on tummy, lying on back, sitting down crouched forward or up straight. It feels like Ive been punched in the stomach and it really hurts. Any ideas what it can be? Rang up my GP to make an appointment but its not til Friday!

Hi Tammy. I seem to remember from another thread that you are pregnant? Apologies if I'm wrong Could it have been what you ate for dinner?

sorry I wonder who I mistook you for!!!! Is it like a stitch? sorry not being much help. Try a hot water bottle - might ease the pain, or a long hot soak in the bath

bit personal but are you constipated? That can be really sore sometimes. Is it sore all over or just in one place? If it gets worse or doesn't go away could you get an emergency Drs appointment?

i did say in a thread that dp worries that i might be pregnant and i messed up my pill last month so was worrying that i might get pregnant. could have been that. the pain goes across, im leaning forward at the moment which seems to be making it better, dont think i have a hot water bottle, but may see if a bath helps

Is it definately stomach, could it be more in your side/back, just thinking of UTI or kidney stones, very painful but seem to remember mine started off just a bit painful with need to take painkillers and then got considerably worse and quite unbearable, was preggers both time and thought I had gone into labour!!!

no its definetly in the front across my stomach. its not constipation as i can go toilet fine. i remember having pains like this a few years ago apart from it was a lot worse as it made me cry mum took me to emergency surgery as it was at the weekend and when i got there the pains just disappeared which was very odd.

appendicitis? think that usually hurts down one side though. I had it when I was 13ish but can't really remember what it felt like. if it doesn't get better you should really go see a doctor, even if it turns out to be nothing.

Tammybear I hope you feel better soon, and if it gets worse go to an emergency doctor, don't worry about the potential that it may go away, it really is important that if you are in alot of pain you do something about it. What about appendix, know nothing about it but could that cause tummy pains??xxxxxxxxxxx

could it be stress at all?

I think you should call nhs direct

The appendix normally hurts in the lower right corner of your abdomen, lower than the stomach as such. From what I'm told, the pain is really really strong and touching that area causes agony.

Stress-related stomach problems can be really horrid, I suffered from them lots for years. Hot water bottles and hot baths help, either way.

And of course it's worth checking for other causes first. There are lots of things that can go wrong in that area, some of which are scary. I'd talk to NHS direct, or look on their website.

Have you considered the gall bladder? Is it getting worse?
I had a similar sounding attack on a w/end at my sisters-ended up rolling in agony on the floor of A&E in my pyjamas screaming for pain relief (it was much worse than having a baby, believe me!)

Don't want to frighten you, but it could be this.
I just knew when it was happening to me that the pain was not gynaecological or bowel related.

tammybear · 15/11/2004 21:23

where would the pain be if it was the gall bladder? just walked to the bathroom to go to the toilet, was fine, but it hurt whilst i was walking around

Just spoke to a nurse. She says to take paracemtol (sp?) and if the pain is still there to call GP in 2 hours as its been a constant pain and not in the centre of my stomach. Says it could be something inflared. They kept asking me if im pregnant which has now got me worried

she said that as ive been taken nurofen i should have paracetemol then after that to take nurofen and keep swapping them every 3-4 hours. but i havent got anything besides nurofen or aspro clear and i dont think aspro clear helps with stomachs do they? getting worried now

Don't worry, you only have to think of the next two hours. if it gets worse you will then be in a position to take steps to deal with it.
You'll be ok, try to relax and stay calm (hard I know.)
