13mnth old, vomiting and won't keep anything down, advice needed

my dd(13mnths) was sick twice last night and again this morning. I have just been giving her water and also tried a rehydration sachet but that just came straight back up again as well.
She has been sleeping loads today so is not missing food too much. But is there anything else I can do apart from keeping her off food for a day.

There's a stomach bug going around at the moment. Ds1 was ill on Friday/Saturday, ds2 and dh had it Sunday/today. Now it seems to be my turn.

There's not much you can do tbh other than offer clear liquids little and often. It seems to last 24-48hrs.

just keep trying with water. not a lot that you can do. if you get worried go see your gp, but it's that time of year and bugs are going around. wishing you better.

just keep offering her the rehydration fluid a little at a time - if it stays down then offer her more. It shouldn't last much longer.

Keep of milk for a couple of days apparently difficult to digest. Start on bland foods when they water stays down. Give her live yoghurt to help replace the gut bacteria.

thanks girls, its the first time she has had anything this bad. She gets so upset when she is sick and i feel so bad for her. This may sound like a stupid question but how do you know when to start giving her solids again, or milk?? Definitely staying well away today but how long can they go without milk, solids etc etc

The usual advice is about 24hrs with just clear fluids. Ds2 perked up yesterday evening so I made the mistake of letting him have some milk. Not the best idea I've ever had.

You'll probably find that dd won't actually want to eat anyway. Once she starts to keep the liquid down then you could try giving her watered-down milk to start with. As others have said stick to very bland food at first. Ds2 is now eating dry bread (his choice).

as throckenholt says, just offer the rehydration a little at a time until she can cope with it. When this works and she's keeping it down start with a little toast (no butter) or a rice cake. Something simple and bland. We can live without food for a few days, it's the fluids that we need. Don't worry, when she's better, she'll be hungry. hth

It is horrible when they are sick. You will just feel when you think she is a bit better - then offer her a little bit of something light - whatever she fancies (say a richtea biscuit), see if it stays down and tehn take it from there.

I am getting a little concerned that she cannot even keep water down. Has anyone dealt with htis before. She's been rather sleepy this afternoon and not really had very wet nappies at all today. I have put her to bed now but am worried whether I should let her sleep or try to get more fluids into her. But then the problem is that any sips of water just come back up so what can I do.She seems so tired but am I letting her get even more dehydrated???

DS1 had this when he was younger and the others have all had this as well. It is very hard to see your little one sick. Let her sleep and keep an eye on her. Sleep is what helps the healing process. Her nappies will be dry because her body has no fluids to expel. If you are still worried in the morning then see your GP. hth. Keep us updated.

My dd got gastroenteritis a few weeks ago and it sound very similar - I did what you are doing, stopped solids and milk for 48 hours but gave plenty of boiled/cooled water with the rehydration sachets in it. She did keep the water down though. I think that if she cannot hold water down though you for any length of time you should probably call the GP.
