What to offer 2yo during/after gastric flu?

Running out of ides as I read somewhere that dairy products fed after gastro enteritis can lead to intolerance and allergies, as dd depends on dairy heavily for her usual diet (she is low weight) I am flummoxed as to what to feed her. She vomited all Tuesday and had diarrhoea, she has been lethargic, with some bright perkier moments, drinking water ok, we have been giving her a few flakes of plain cereal, rice krispies etc rather than offer with milk, she has tolerated this ok, but even no she still vomits 2-3 x a day with no obvious pattern? Is this normal? I wonder what I should offer her as she is wanting to eat when awake, but I realise that some things will upset her more thn others?
Any help please?
Cheers Piff and dd

Poor dd! How about white bread, rice, pasta, spuds, chicken soup, plain chicken and white fish. In our house, we've all had upset tummies recently and doc did say no dairy. What about non-dairy alternatives? Soya yogs, rice milk? These things can take a while to settle down - how long has it been going on?

Oh dear poor you! I hate these gastro bugs. Whenever we're inflicted I stick to very plain foods. Definitely NO DAIRY produce. Depends how bad she is now but initially plain water is not very digestible and very likely to be chucked back out! Better off with flat lemonade or make some ice cubes out of weak favourite fruit juice for her to suck. Once on the mend I start off with plain biscuits, dry toast, crackers, potato cakes type of thing. Then normal toast, plain chicken, mashed potato (without the milk) type of thing. If she's still being sick she's probably not ready for too much food anyway. I'm afraid I am quite paranoid about tummy bugs and usually starve mine for about 24 hours from the last vomit (sorry!) before giving them anything but tbh they are usually asleep for most of that anyway. They can drag on for upto 10 days but that has only been the diarrhoea from what experience I have had with mine.

Thanks , since Tuesday morning, was really bad D+V for 24 hrs then eased up, but she still sleeps 20 hrs out of 24 there is no more diarrhoea but still vomits 2-3 x a day with much pain it seems.
I have some rice milk and was unsure what to try it with. we had chicken soup but she wasn't keen... she isn't keen on spuds when well so don't fancy trying that, will try some plain cereals with rice milk perhaps? Digestives or rich tea bikkies? She is ok on plain water, she never has juice so giving her that would prob upset her too. I too am pretty severe after tummy bugs but she appears "hungry" at times...
Hard to know what to do for best at times!
Thanks

Yes cereal and rice milk.

Has she seen the doc? I think I would get this checked out especially if there's pain. Perhaps call nhs direct for advice? How old is dd?

dd was two one week ago today, all those pressies lay unplayed with
Went to doc on Weds after the 24 hrs vomming and he said she wasn't dehydrated and as long as she drunk small amounts after she would be fine, watch out or dehyd signs etc...
I am sure she is fine aside from the bug it is just that as she is very light 21 lbs only at age 2, that she will lose too much weight...

Poor little thing, Pifle, that sounds so miserable. Our Dr says the latest thinking on eating with a D&V bug is that starving/avoiding certain foods makes no difference in general terms to the outcome. But obviously, if something upsets the tummy again or you have other reasons for avoiding a particular food group, you take that into account as well. Have you tried dioralyte drinks to help get her body back into balance? (Personally, I think they taste revolting so use a straw!) Then treat her as a baby again and give her bland weaning-type foods. Pears are supposed to be non-allergenic so you could stew and puree them, maybe with flaked rice or baby cereal mixed in. Even tins/jars of baby food might start her on the road to eating properly again. Another idea is bread sticks to nibble on or rusks softened with water or half-and-half milk and water. Hope she's feeling better soon.

Gosh, that sounds abrupt - I meant that I use a straw with dioralyte. That'll teach me to preview before hitting 'post'!!
