Anyone else had Kidney Stones?

I have mentioned this on and off in other threads - I got kidney stones as a pregnancy complication this time last yr, and although the cause of it all is now commando crawling round the floor, I am still passing them occasionally.
They are VERY painful - the painkillers are the same as for labour! I am also suffering recurrent kidney/urine infections which they say will clear up once all the stones are gone.
And then this week at the hospital appointment the Urologist kind of off-handedly said 'Of course, you shouldn't get pregnant again - you'll lose your kidney if you do' - just like that, with no explanation! Now I wasn't planning any more kids, really, but to suddenly be told I CAN'T has left me shocked, it seems so final.
Just wondered if anyone else had had stones or other kidney problems, especially related to pregnancy.

Oh, BTW, after my last sucessful complaint we put in a complaint about the consultant - to say something like that with no follow up or offer of explanation or warning, in such an offhand manner, well, it was beyond the pale. The health board are going to be sick of the sight of me!!

Thanks for lookinf up the stuff for me - I've never looked there for information and it was very interesting.
I'm lucky, in that I don't have chronic stones - I've had the blood test and kidney scan, and it was just a pregnancy thing. I just wish I knew when it was all going to be over, but no-one seems to be able to tell me that!
BTW, if you want to find out about my other sucessful complaint, it's in the Parenting thread, called 'I'm not a Gina mum, but for those of you who are ...', when I discovered my HV was handing out free copies of the CLBB to new mums in our area instead of spending the money on parenting books for the practice library! I got her a written warning! And a new HV!

Yes, the pain was indescribable! (sp). I had 5 nights in hospital but never actually passed a stone, I had to sieve my wee every time I went to the loo! Thankfully the pain went 10 years ago and has never come back. R

i know the pain of a kidney stone..not in pregnancy but i had one when i was thirteen apparently its very rare ..i was unlucky i had to have an operation due to the stone being in a cyst in my kidney which meant it couldnt be 'blasted'.i had to wait about three months in all between when the pain started to when i had the op and id rather be in labour every time!!!!just follow oother advice and drink as much as you can .

When I had an emergency appendix operation a few years ago a woman was admitted with kidney stones. Appendicitis is a total picnic compared to what she was going through, poor thing. She was in agonies. I really sympathise with anyone with kidney stones, now.

OWWWWWWWWWW I have got another one and DH is away on a jolly all weekend to Edinburgh.
Looking for sympathy really and a big dose of painkillers washed down with a glass of wine. I've been having them for a year now, so you get used to it, but it still b**y hurts!!

So do I, I've been up most of the night and now have 2 kids demanding my attention! Phoned dh and he is going to try to get home today but it is really foggy here and the flights are running late! AAArgh!

In a grumpy old mood about my kidney stones again and not wanting to clog up the depression threads with it. I have now been suffering from them for over a year and I hate it. THis last week I have had 5! 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know now I am not making any more stones, just flushing out the ones I have had since I was pregnant, but it is really depressing. I am SO stoned (LOL) on th painkillers, and SO fed up with it all, and feel like it is never ending. Just having a moan.

My sisterinlaw said she would rather take painful child birth then pass a kidney stone. Never had one myself.

Probabaly not about pregnancy induced kidney stones, jasper!! Men get them generally for another reason.
