Is Cholesterol age related?

Katymac · 01/03/2007 20:45

My DH aged 54 has a cholesterol level of 6.6
I aged 38 have one of 7

Is mine much worse than his

Or is it irrespective of age

And does the family history matter ?

Thanks

Bummer that means we are both bad

Damn

I think we have quite a good diet (his both worse & better than mine)

I eat no cheese, little butter (maybe 2oz a week), occasional bacon (3 rashers a week), no egg (well maybe 1 or 2 a month) 7 2 fluid oz of s/s milk a day- but I can't eat any of the cholesterol lowering stuff (due to IBS)

He eats loads of cheese, chicken skin, butter, F/F milk but also more Fruit & veg & he will be able to have the reducing stuff

Loads of work to do

you can have high chol which is purely related to hereditary factors... there's an proper name for it, can't remember.. do a google.

People with hereditary high chol can sometimes require medicationm, and even their children should be checked. My 11 yr old dd has it, me and dd have to be checked.
BUT of course the TOTAL is not the most important, is the levels of the good and the bad.

Check with your doc though cos I'm no expert, only just discovered this after dd had blood tests!!

My G'dad was diagnosed at 86 with high cholesterol...so I guess it might be in the family
