Shadow on lung

Hi everyone my FIL has recently had an xray after a few weeks of a bad chest/possible chest infection and a cough that wont go. The xray has come back showing a shadow on his lung. Everyone else in the family seems to think the worst based on one xray (and he has now been referred to some respiratory dept of the hospital) he does not smoke, did have potential exposure to asbestos when young but has previously been tested for asbestosis and all was fine. At the exact same time my friend at work has had the same thing happen, bad chest; xray, shadow on lung and now has had a CT scan today results to be known later. Am i wrong to think positively and to think perhaps some nasty chest thing has gone round this winter (my mum has currently also got a chest infection) and none of these people are smokers and are generally healthy so I am not worried about it being the big C. give me your opinions and experiences please so i can decide if i am mad to think this may not be anything sinister!!

A friend of mine had a shadow on his lung three or four years ago. He was a little worried due to prior asbestos exposure, but it turned out that he was fine. And he still is fine.

Obviously I can't predict what's up with your FIL and your friend, but there's point panicking until you need to.

I had one a few years ago, I had a couple of repeat chest x rays and it disappeared.

I did have walking pneumonia without knowing it though!

I hope everything is fine OP.
