as far as i know you should be covered after 7 days since starting taking the pill for the 'first' time if the pill is taken coprrectly (i.e. it is unreliable if you are taking antibiotics or have an upset stomach in which case you should continue taking the pill but you should be aware that it takes again 7 days for the pill to be reliable again counting from the day you finish teh antibiotics or get better with your stomach whichever the case is). as you are now during your period you should be naturally unable to get pregnant. However, nothing is 100% safe if you really don't want to get pregnant. I should stress the above advice does not come from a medically trained individual and is personal knowledge. Any use?

i've just had a look at the instructions leaflet from my pills. there it states clearly that when starting to take the pill for the first time or after a break you should start on the first day of the period. i could not find any information on what happens if taken on 3rd day of the period. assuming you cannot take it today because you haven't got the pill and you'll get them on Monday, I would suggest you ask the pharmacist for advice or wait until your next period.

but if you've been on the pill before, and you're starting it again after having a baby then you dont have to wait til you start your period. Like branster said, it doesnt kick in til 7 days after starting it, so use other protection if planning to do anything before then

Hi! I'm a family planning nurse so hopefully i can help you out here...! it is fine to start taking the combined pill on day three of your period, but for the first 7 days you will have to avoid sex or use extra precautions to ensure you don't get pregnant After the first 7 pills it will work normally. Hope that helps!
