Had my first baby by emergency cesarean 10 months he ago. All was fine and I bounced back into shape very quickly, but noticed something very odd. When I lay down, in the centre of my torso around 2" above my belly button I used to see something pulsating, it'd rise up and then go back down and my husband could see it too. I could feel it but it never caused me any issues or pain so I ignored it.
Fast forward to now and the last 8 days I have been in absolute agony. Around 8 weeks ago my stomach bloated (I'm a size 8 but suddenly look around 5 months pregnant). I didn't think much to it but now this last week I get a constant cramp feeling, like the pain you get when you're about to have really bad diarrhoea only I don't get diarrhoea. I can often pass a stool to relieve the pain but it's a normal stool just very frequent and it's extremely uncomfortable until I get to a toilet. I'm physically doubled over. Last night I was getting pains lower down too, in my womb area and the pains were radiating into my back and down my one leg.
I feel horrible and I'm getting scared to leave the house due to how severe these pains are coming on.
I will book a docs apt tomorrow but years ago I used to suffer with ibs and I feel like they're just going to try and say it's that again and take buscopan, but I feel like something is wrong and don't want them to fob me off.
I'm not usually a hypercondriac and I'm not sure if it's just because I now have a baby but I suddenly feel very worried.
Does anyone have any ideas what this could be in order for me to help fight my case at the docs? I am back at work in a week which I am not bothered about as I enjoy my job but I can't understand at the moment how I'm going to make it through the day there in this much pain sad

The pulsing sounds like your aorta, I used see mine and it's nothing to worry about (pregnant now so can't anymore!)

As for the other, it could be IBS I'm afraid to say, and the nerves from the gut and pelvis can refer pain to other parts of the body, it's why we often feel period pain in our legs. Taking amytriptaline for nerve pain is useful for lots of sufferers. You are right though to get it checked. I hope it all goes OK smile

It could be IBS but it also could be a hernia. If the pain becomes very severe before you see your GP (emergency appt tomorrow, do not wait), you have vomiting, a fever or an inability to pass stool then A&E.

Thanks very much both for your responses. I have the docs at 2pm today to get checked.

WHATTHE that's interesting regarding the aorta. I didn't know that! But would make sense. Congrats on the pregnancy smile

Try to push for an ultrasound so they can see what's going on.

MYA could be gallstones.

Ask for an ultrasound.

Could be your muscles aren't knitted back together and you have an abdominal hernia.

Make sure you tell them you're in agony. They can't send you away if you're in pain, so don't be a push over. Bring your DH if you are feeling too panicky or vulnerable to push for a referral.

Good luck going back to work, and congratulations!

Have you got an explanation ?

MYA2016 Tue 22-Nov-16 15:05:15

Thanks fur the responses, I have been and shock horror he said "probably ibs but have a blood test anyway". Basically if bloods fine then deal with it sad

Don't let them fob you off MYA. Insist on an ultrasound to look for gall stones.
That level of pain isn't to be ignored. And you can quote me some randomer on t'internet as proof.

I had gallstones for two years, being in agony and vomiting bile all the time, and they eventually gave me an ultrasound, hey presto, gallstones.
They had done bloods and diagnosed me with IBS, and anorexia too just for kicks, as I was throwing up after eating anything at that stage. I was 6 and a half stone.

Don't let them fob you off. Once they saw the gallstones I was booked in for a laparoscopic gall bladder removal and I haven't looked back.

Go back again. Emphasise the pain, and vomiting bile. Insist on an ultrasound.

If you have been told you have IBS in the past it maybe worth being tested for coeliacs disease. I was told for many years I had IBS but after 2 pregnancies my symptoms increased & like you I'd be really bloated & look five months gone. My GP did blood test for coeliacs & that was positive- I had scope & biopsies that confirmed it. The specialist said the biopsy showed many years worth of damage to the bowel which tallied in with me 1st being pregnant. Pregnancy can be a trigger for coeliacs. What blood tests is your GP doing?

MYA2016 Sun 27-Nov-16 18:13:30

Thanks for the responses. I've been tested for celiac disease before when my weight dropped down to 7st but all was clear. I had 3 colonoscopies with biopsy, endoscopy etc and they never found a thing.

Venus interesting re gallstones. I never realised those were the symptoms

I'm still suffering sad I've woken today and my tummy is actually not hurting buy I have extreme pain in my lower back and radiating into my legs. I keep weeing but it's not helping the pain. I've been unable to move off the sofa all day and my temperature has steadily risen (now at 38). What do I do :-(

MYA2016 Sun 27-Nov-16 18:14:34

Also bloodstock think was full blood count? All came back entirely normal

Fieldsandgrasses Sun 27-Nov-16 18:14:48

I'd go to A&E. Sorry you're suffering.

MYA2016 Sun 27-Nov-16 18:15:34

Bloods not bloodstock

paddlenorapaddle Sun 27-Nov-16 18:18:35

A&E radiating pain and fever sounds like a trapped hernia but sod the internet go to hospital and bugger it pregnancy can do all sorts of things to your body x

After my post last night I started being violently sick. I'm currently waiting for a doctor to call me as I feel so weak that I just can't get out of bed. My temperature has finally come down.
Absolutely gutted, it's my wedding anniversary and I'm also meant to be back at work tomorrow after 11 months off sad

BurningBridges Mon 28-Nov-16 18:34:40

Hope you are feeling better now MYA2016 - this all sounds awful what did the doctor say?

MYA2016 Mon 28-Nov-16 20:33:37

Hiya thanks for the message. The doctor told me it will be norovirus and to stay at home! I've not been sick for a few hours so hopefully I'm on the mend. Thank you for asking
