Suspected trapped nerve in shoulder was in actual fact angina!

For a few weeks my dh (45) has had what we thought was a trapped nerve in his right shoulder. I had a trapped nerve a month or so before, and the symtoms seemed to be the same. He would get up in the morning and then after a short time be in agony. Pain going from his shoulder, down his arm to his elbow and pins and needles in his hand.
We were walking the dog last Sunday and were about 30 mins away from home when he was in agony again. He said he felt like he was going to be sick and the pain was agony. He said his chest hurt but we thought that was from being stressed about the pain. So I said we are going home, and by the time we got back home he was fine again. He did agree to see the gp and phoned up the next morning to make the appointment.
He saw the gp on Wednesday and when he came home he said the gp suspected angina! He had to go in to hospital on Friday for a chest xray and blood tests, and he is being fast tracked for treatment. It appears he could have had a full heart attack at any moment Sad
I felt so guilty when he came back from the gp as I had zero sympathy for him when he was in so much pain on the dog walk Blush but he said not to be. He didn't suspect it would be anything serious.
I am posting this so if anyone else is having pain from their right shoulder down their arms, feel sick and have pain across their chest, to get to the gp. Hopefully it will just be a trapped nerve, but it could be angina.
We don't know what his treatment will be, hopefully 'just' stents, but it really has brought to the fore a sense of mortality.

Thanks for posting that - it'll be very helpful information for someone.

Don't feel guilty! Almost everyone would have thought the same as you. Good news it was caught early enough and a great post to remind us to take these things more seriously.

Out of interest, - colleague had to have a heart bypass pretty much out of the blue but he says in hindsight, there were some warnings. With the benefit of hindsight, was there anything you noticed that was out of the ordinary? Flowers to you both

MrsMorton He hasnt really had any other things thinking back. Maybe being excessively tired. He was diagnosed with high cholesterol approx 10 years ago and took statins, but they made his muscles atrophy really badly, so he stopped taking them Angry I kept asking him to go back, to get it checked but he never did. Now he is in the situation he is in.

He has had his blood tests and xray. Bloods showed his cholesterol to be at 9!! Xray was all clear, but I can't think how that shows anything to do with blocked arteries.
He saw the chest pain clinic in our local cardiac unit in the week. He has now been booked in for an angiogram to see if he needs an angioplasty to fit stents. He is also being referred to a specialist who deals with familial high cholesterol and will do some tests to see if that is the case. If it is then they can treat it accordingly.
Its all still a bit scary, he keeps having small angina attacks in the morning, but also during the day if he forgets himself. He is now starting to recognise the signs and stop when he feels the first twinges. I just hope after the stents, plus all the meds he is now on, he will be able to be more active again.
