he has been in agoney for weeks now, is now back on oxy-norm, oxy-contin and co-codamol and its not helping. they are doing an ultrasound next week, as they suspect a build up of fluid around his LVAD site. no idea on how they will drain it if it is that.

Oh poor Peter, that sounds excruciating - hope they can sort him out quickly misdee, would they give him a local or what?

no idea janh, not even sure how they would drain fluid internally if it cant be peed out (usual method of draining fluid from his belly when it builds up). he has had a infection for 3-4 weeks now, and the antibiotics are working on the infection, but the pain is getting worse. he is in tears even with the pain relief he is on.

Oh no Misdee. Is this what came of the day when you felt he just wasn't right? I have no idea how they will sort it, but I hope there is a simple way to do it. Thinking of you as ever.

It depends where it is Misdee, ie how deep. Sometimes they can just open the wound up slightly and it is enough to get it to clear away. Sometimes they have to go to theatre for a small op to have it done a little deeper. Sometimes just a course of IV antibiotics can be enough to clear up the infection. It all really depends. Him going to theatre would be the last thing you'd want really isn't it? Even though it is only a light aneasthetic.

Oh misdee what a shame. Must be awful to see him in such pain. Hopefully it will be straightforward to sort out and he will be home again quickly.
